Lets hope today’s performance maintains the good start made by the first team and that the players keep working hard and developing as a team which is one of the key requirements from the management team. I am pleased to report that we have now received the appropriate grants towards the new tractor and seated stand and that all planning matters have been dealt with. The new tractor mower will significantly help us maintain the ground and keep it in the best condition possible and we expect delivery of the machinery late September. We are now working towards a schedule of installing the new seated stand and anticipate that to be late October. This will provide a further 50 seats and will be situated in between the Home dug out and the 1st Floodlight column. There are still some seats left for people to sponsor so please see myself if you are interested in reserving your seat and name in history. The next 2 games for the 1st team see an added twist to them. Not only do we play Ellistown on Bank Holiday Monday (away), their team is managed by Andy’s brother, Jimmy and next Saturday sees the clubs first FA VASE Game here at the NFU against Racing Club Warwick, a team managed in the past by Jose. However I am sure that both individuals will keep their eye on making sure we come out top in both games. On the FA VASE Game, be sure to spread the word to your work colleagues, family members and friends to come along and support the team. It would be amazing if we could attract a crowd of over 150 and I know that the players would love it as the atmosphere on match days is fantastic and certainly spurs the team on. As the club continues to grow we are constantly on the look out for more volunteers to assist and maintain the clubs potential. We are currently looking for volunteers on match days, so if you know of anyone that could assist with things like stewarding, pay kiosk, security etc then please let me know. All that remains is to wish the team well and hope you all enjoy the game. Stuart Bonser Club Chairman

FIRST TEAM UPDATE Good afternoon and welcome to the home of Ashby Ivanhoe FC. May I extend a very warm welcome on behalf of the Club to everyone attending today’s match and in particular the players, officials and supporters of our opponents Anstey Nomads. Since scripting the last programme notes we have played three games which has seen us take seven points from a possible nine. An evening fixture away from home is always fraught with unmanageable variables such as work commitments, rush hour traffic and limited time to get prepared pre match. So our point in a 0-0 draw at Gedling was pleasing, having switched the fixture from a home tie in order to give our pitch more time to bed in. We were put under intense pressure for the first fifteen minutes and the crossbar came to our rescue in that period. However, once we settled down we were more than a match for our opponents and we finished the game very much in the ascendency laying siege to the Gedling goal in the last ten minutes. As 0-0 stalemates go this was an entertaining game and the most pleasing aspect was a second clean sheet away from home following the opening day shut out at Radcliffe. The opening home game ended on a high as two late goals saw off Borrowash but although we had long spells of dominance throughout the game as a management team we were disappointed that we lost our way for twenty minutes in the second half allowing the opposition to equalise and provide us with an uncomfortable last ten minutes. However, two well taken goals by Luke and Quinny sealed the victory. All in all the performance raised more questions than answers which we have hopefully addressed over the course of the subsequent mid-week training sessions. Onto last Saturday our performance at Kimberley which was more encouraging and after soaking up a great deal of pressure in the opening twenty minutes we clicked into gear. We had long periods of dominance and retained possession well but probably the most pleasing aspect was how effectively we counter attacked when we won the ball back in our own half. We are still in the very early stages of the season and things will settle down as unavailability reduces and players develop their required match fitness levels but the early signs are promising. I’d like to take this opportunity to congratulate Jamie Brassington on securing a position as a full time goalkeeper coach at League One outfit, Colchester United. He leaves Ivanhoe never conceding a goal in competitive matches, albeit only three games. With respect to today’s fixture, let’s hope we can build on the hard work and efforts of the last few weeks and produce an entertaining performance with the desired outcome. Thank you for your support and enjoy the game. Miles Warriner First Team Management Team

MATCH ACTION VS BORROWASH VICTORIA ASHBY IVANHOE 3-1 BORROWASH VICTORIA EAST MIDLANDS COUNTIES FOOTBALL LEAGUE SATURDAY 15TH AUGUST 2015
Ashby Ivanhoe scored two late goals as they maintained their unbeaten start to the season with a 3-1 victory over Borrowash Victoria. Dan Stevenson had given Ashby a first half lead which they held until five minutes from time when the visitors levelled. Ashby didn't settle for a point though and two final goals from Luke Thorogood and Daniel Quinn sealed the three points. The first chance of the match came on nine minutes when the ball was slotted through the Borrowash defence for striker Royce Turville to run onto and after bringing the ball under control he went past a defender but his shot from right of centre to the goal was saved by the keeper. Another chance came Ashby’s way ten minutes later when the ball was played into the area which was headed clear by the defender but only to the edge of the area when James Purslow was positioned to strike a first time shot which the keeper did well to get down and turn the ball away from goal. The first goal of the came just after the half hour mark and it was Ashby who took the lead when a shot from Turville from just inside the area was blocked and the ball fell kindly to Dan Stevenson who slotted home into the bottom corner to make it 1-0 and it remained that way at the break. The second half saw plenty of goal-scoring chances as the match opened up and the first chance of the half was for Ashby on 48 minutes when Stevenson received the ball from Turville and after creating room to send a shot towards goal the ball was narrowly wide of the near post. On the hour mark another opportunity came Ashby’s way and it was a great chance to double their advantage when a low ball forward found Luke Thorogood and after his first touch took him beyond the defence his shot despite beating the keeper was just over the bar. Midway through the second half and the visitors had a couple of chances to level the scores. Firstly a low shot from outside the area was wide of the far post and the second chance came following a corner which was played deep into the area and the resulting shot was just wide of the near post.

MATCH ACTION VS BORROWASH VICTORIA With ten minutes remaining Ashby had a chance to double their lead when a ball into the area found Chris Saunders who turned before sending a powerful effort at goal but a Borrowash defender was in the way of the shot. Borrowash then had another couple of chances when a ball into the area from the right side resulted in a free header from inside the area but the ball cleared the bar but from the second chance they were level when Ashby failed to clear and the ball ran through for Dominic Wilkinson and the Borrowash player made no mistake from close range. Ashby were never going to settle for a point though and they finished the match strongly and took all three points with two goals inside the final few minutes. With a minute of normal time remaining Saunders advanced with the ball down the right touchline before sending a cross to the edge of the area where Thorogood was positioned and his wonderfully struck half volley left the keeper with no chance. The third and final Ashby goal came three minutes into stoppage when substitute Daniel Quinn received the ball deep inside the area and looking like he had nowhere to go he took the ball past a defender before curling a superb shot from a tight angle across goal and into the far top corner. MATCH ACTION VS KIMBERLEY MINERS WELFARE KIMBERLEY MINERS WELFARE 0-6 ASHBY IVANHOE EAST MIDLANDS COUNTIES FOOTBALL LEAGUE SATURDAY 22ND AUGUST 2015
Ivanhoe travelled to Nottingham in blistering sunshine and returned home with the spoils in what developed into an emphatic victory. The opening 20 minutes gave no real indication of what was to come as Kimberley took advantage of the notable slope to put the Ivanhoe rear guard under pressure. Ashby keeper, Jamie Brassington pulled off a couple of sharp saves to deny the hosts with both Steve Chaplin and Henry Sibenge combining well in attack. Sibenge wasted the best chance of the early skirmishes when he was played through one on one with Brassington but tamely shot wide of the far post. Chaplin flashed a volley just over the bar but Ivanhoe were starting to gain possession and settled into their rhythm. On the half hour a Chris Waldrum corner found Kerr Horn and the Ashby marksman planted a header into the top corner to put the visitors ahead. Minutes later Horn was rewarded for his tenacity closing down the Kimberley keeper who spilt the ball to give Horn a simple tap in. Ashby were now in total control and on the stroke of half time Waldrum’s low drive found the bottom corner to send the visitors into a 3-0 lead at the break. With the advantage of the slope in the second half, Ivanhoe went for the jugular as their hosts physically wilted in the heat. A quick combination of passes between Chris Saunders, Luke Thorogood and Waldrum saw Danny Quinn through one on one with the Kimberley keeper and he nonchalantly finished extending the lead to 4-0. Further fine passing combinations saw Thorogood score a brace with Brassington becoming a mere spectator in the Ashby goal. All in all a pleasing performance with plenty more improvement required as tougher challenges lie ahead.

RESERVE MATCH ACTION VS SAFFRON DYNAMO ASHBY IVANHOE RESERVES 3-4 SAFFRON DYNAMO LEICESTERSHIRE SENIOR LEAGUE PREMIER DIVISION TUESDAY 18TH AUGUST 2015 Ashby Ivanhoe Reserves suffered injury time agony as their first home game of the season ended in a narrow 4-3 defeat against Saffron Dynamo. The first hour of the match was one sided with Saffron opening up a 3-0 lead. Ashby pulled one back through Charlie Caines before a Rob Avins penalty made it interesting at 3-2. Ashby pushed for an equaliser which they got at the third time of asking in the 90th minute through Sam Kirk. But in the six minutes of stoppage time the visitors managed to grab a fourth and decisive goal. The visitors started the match the better side and were given an early opportunity to open the scoring when they were awarded a fourth minute penalty after keeper John Noon brought down a player inside the area but the spot-kick failed to hit the target and went wide of the post with Noon diving the right way. Saffron were the better side in the first half and with eight minutes of the half remaining they opened the scoring when a powerful effort is heading for the top corner before Noon produced a fine save to tip the ball onto the post but the ball ran loose and was finished off from close range to give the visitors a narrow cushion at the break. The second half saw plenty of attacking action with six goals. The first of those goals came in the 48th minute when Saffron doubled their advantage and that was soon increased to 3-0 on 55 minutes when a ball into the area was punched clear only for the return ball to be headed home. Ashby quickly pulled a goal back and just two minutes after falling three behind they scored when a shot was saved by the Saffron keeper and with the ball loose inside the area Charlie Caines beat a defender to the ball to finish first time and make it 3-1. Inside the final twenty minutes and with Ashby now searching for goals they were awarded a penalty of their own when Antonio Williams was brought down inside the area and upstepped Rob Avins who fired his spot-kick down the middle and reduced the deficit to 3-2. Ashby looked the more threatening side as they looked for an equaliser and the comeback was completed in dramatic style in the final minute of the match. It took three attempts for the ball to find the net as the initial shot was saved by the keeper but he failed to hold onto the ball which resulted in a follow-up shot which was blocked on the line by a defender. But with the ball again running loose it fell to Sam Kirk and from close range he made no mistake to fire the ball into the roof of the net and send the terrace wild. All the hard work was to be undone though and four minutes into the seven minutes added on by the referee Saffron stole the three points with a seventh and final goal when the ball was crossed into the area and was headed home just inside the post to complete a 4-3 victory for the visitors. RESERVE MATCH ACTION VS BIRSTALL UNITED ASHBY IVANHOE RESERVES 2-3 BIRSTALL UNITED LEICESTERSHIRE SENIOR LEAGUE PREMIER DIVISION SATURDAY 22ND AUGUST 2015 Ashby Ivanhoe Reserves faced leaders Birstall United and they fell to defeat by the odd goal in five. Just like the previous match against Saffron Dynamo they found themselves three goals behind before fighting back but they fell just short in their quest for an equaliser. A one-sided first half saw the visitors build a 2-0 lead which soon became three after the break. George Clamp scored a superb goal into the top corner before Marc Bouable scored on his debut to make it 3-2. A slow start by Ashby saw the visitors in front as early as the third minute when from down the left side the ball was played back to the edge of the area where the Birstall player was there and he sent a lobbed shot over Ashby keeper Connor Cannon and into the corner of the net. The early action was taking place in the Ashby half and they fell two goals behind on 13 minutes in unfortunate circumstances when from the right the ball was swung into the area in search of a Birstall player but it found its way over the keeper’s head and into the far top corner. The remainder of the first half saw Birstall comfortably hold onto their two goal advantage. The first twenty minutes of the second half saw Birstall continue to be the better side and just past the hour mark they increased their lead further with a third goal when from around 25 yards a midfield player who had already tried a couple of shots from distance sent a left footed shot beyond Cannon. But again from 3-0 down Ashby threatened a comeback and on 76 minutes they reduced their arrears with a superb goal from George Clamp. He received the ball 25 yards from goal before sending a fine strike into the top corner of the net leaving the Birstall keeper with no chance. Ashby quickly pulled another goal back as the match entered the final ten minutes when the ball was played through the defence for Marc Bouable to run onto and from just right of centre around 12 yards out the keeper was drawn off his line and the ball was stroked past him and into the net inside the far post to set up a nervy final ten minutes for the visitors. There was to be no third and equalising goal for Ashby in this match though with Birstall seeing out the final minutes to take home the three points. ASHBY IVANHOE LINE-UP: Connor Cannon, Rob Avins, George Rushton, Andy Parry, Jake Conkay, Daniel Turnock, Charlie Caines, George Clamp, Elliott Bott, Antonio Williams, Marc Bouable SUBSTITUTES: Michael Ellis, Andy Hulley, James Rushton GOALS: George Clamp (76), Marc Bouable (80)

DEVELOPMENT TEAM UPDATE A common problem in many sports is the lack of opportunities available to sports men and women who want to make the transition from age restricted participation to full senior level competition. Many sports National Governing Bodies are looking into the dearth of players making the natural step up into adult sport and the lack of clear signposted pathways into continuous participation. Football generally and rugby in times gone by have faced this issue which is an on-going concern. To address this issue our Chairman backed and supported by the management staff at the club are pleased to announce the launch of the Ashby Ivanhoe FC Development Team. It is envisaged that this team will be made up of promising under 18 players currently playing within the club structure and an addition of carefully selected senior players who will have a positive effect on the younger members of the squad. The team will compete in the North Leicestershire League Division One, playing games on Saturday afternoons either at Western Park or Hood Park in Ashby. Pre-season is underway and initial signs are encouraging with many players looking to get involved with an emphasis on long term player development. The first league game is a home fixture on 05/09/15 against Anstey. As Senior Lecturer for Sport at Stephenson College in Coalville and having worked in sport locally for nearly twenty years it is extremely encouraging and exciting to witness the opportunity that Ashby Ivanhoe FC is presenting to young footballers in Ashby and the surrounding areas. The clubs ability to provide safe, fun and educationally conducive environments to develop players would seem to be second to none in the district. This all bodes well for players to join the club at five years of age and compete in age appropriate teams progressing right through to hopefully one day representing the club in the Senior First Team. Keep a look out for Regular updates in the match day programme and if at all possible offer your support to our Development Team, your attendance at any of the games over the coming Inaugural season im sure would be greatly appreciated by our players young and old! IN OPPOSITION TODAY ANSTEY NOMADS The Nomads were formed in 1947 and were champions of the Leicestershire Senior League in the seasons 1951-52 and 1953-54. The following season the club recorded its highest ever attendance of 4,500 against the Athenian League side Hayes in the 2nd round of the FA Amateur Cup. But just one year later the club decided to join the Central Alliance. In 1966-67 the East Midlands Regional League was formed, mainly from Clubs in the Central Alliance, and of the six seasons the Nomads spent in this League, they gained a top four place in three of them. Returning to the Leicestershire Senior League in 1973-74, Nomads became Division Two Champions at their first attempt and were promoted back to the top flight. After being runners-up in 1978-79, 1979-80 and 1980-81 they became Champions in 1981-82 and 1982-83. In 1990-91 just one goal put the Nomads behind the leaders and in 1994-95 the Nomads created history by winning both the Leicestershire FA Senior Cup and the Junior Cup in the same season. In 2008-09 the Nomads had one of their most successful seasons by winning the Leicestershire Senior League, The Battle of Britain Cup, The Rolleston Charity Cup and The Beacon Bitter League Cup. The Reserve team also won their League in the Leicestershire Combination and were promoted to Division One. Our first season in the EMCL in 2009-10 saw the Nomads finish bottom but our good reputation helped us not get relegated and we stayed in the EMCL before finishing 12th in 2010-11. Nomads entered the FA Cup for the first time in their history for season 2011-12 and they went out at the Extra Preliminary Round stage losing 2-1 to Bugbrooke St Michael and they finished 9th in the league. The Reserves avoided relegation and played in Division 1 of the Combination. The 2013-14 season was a time of transition for the Nomads and despite some struggle they managed to remain in the EMCL. Nomads also had their first Under 18's Floodlit team and they had an impressive season with several players stepping up to the senior sides. This season will see Nomads continue to play in the EMCL with Rob Harris taking the helm. Nomads' continue their Youth development with the Under 18's Floodlit side, and will also have a new Under 16's side.

ASHBY IVANHOE FC CLUB HISTORY Ashby Ivanhoe Football Club was founded in 1948 and play their home matches at the NFU Sports Ground, Lower Packington Road, Ashby de la Zouch in Leicestershire. This is the clubs new home from the beginning of the 2012/2013 season. Since being founded in 1948 up until the end of the 2011/2012 season the clubs previous home was at Hood Park also in Ashby de la Zouch. The club currently consists of four adult teams and a youth team. The first team play in the East Midlands Counties League, with the Reserves in the Leicestershire Senior League Premier Division. In the 2008/2009 season the club formed a Youth Team (Under 18’s) side who play in the Leicestershire Midweek Floodlit Youth League on Wednesday nights. A Sunday team was re-introduced for the 2012/2013 season and they play in the Burton Sunday League Division Three. For 2015/2016 a third Saturday side has been formed who will play in the North Leicestershire Football League Division One. The club also has 11 junior sides ranging from Under 9’s through to Under 17’s who play in the Burton Junior Football League, Tamworth Junior Football League and the Derby City League. The junior section came after the club merged with the David Hunt Soccer School at the beginning of the 2009-2010 season. In February 2004, Ashby Ivanhoe became an FA Charter Standard football club. The club is very ambitious and has plans to progress further up the league pyramid system. The club is run by an experienced management team and enjoys the support of some very prestigious commercial partners. Ashby Ivanhoe had one of their most successful seasons in 2010/11 as they completed a league and cup double by winning the Leicestershire Senior League by nine points and also lifted the Coalville Charity Cup for the very first time after producing a superb second half comeback to beat Bardon Hill 3-2 in the final. They have also reached successive Leicestershire Senior Cup finals in 2011/2012 and 2012/2013 but had to settle for runners-up on both occasions losing 3-1, firstly to Ibstock United and then Aylestone Park. The 2013/2014 season saw the first team achieve a long-term ambition as they won promotion into the Step 6 East Midlands Counties League for the 2014/2015 season after finishing third place in the Leicestershire Senior League. It was a close title race with the top three all finishing level on points with Ashby third on goal difference. The Reserves were also promoted to the Leicestershire Senior League Division One. 2014/2015 saw Ashby compete at Step 6 of the non-league pyramid for the first time and they had a very good season and secured a top six finish in the East Midlands Counties League which featured victories against all of the sides above them. The Reserve side were involved in a tight title race and it went down to a last day decider against Lutterworth Athletic Reserves but despite the result going against them on the day they were still promoted for the second season in succession and will play at Step 7 in the Leicestershire Senior League Premier Division for 2015/2016.
