Off the field….. I am pleased to report that the floodlights are on their way and groundworks will start Monday 29th September with a completion date late October/early November. We have decided to utilise the floodlights from Hood Park and these should be dismantled after the Midweek Under 18’s game on the 15th October against Coalville Town. They should then be re-erected here ready for the 1st Team to play under lights for the first time at the NFU as they entertain St Andrews on Saturday 15th November. The cost of removing the floodlights was significantly cheaper than investing in new but still cost in the region of £32000. The next stage of our ongoing development programme will see the seated stand erected early in 2015 and we now have availability for “sponsored seating”. See inside the programme for further details of how you can be part of history at Ivanhoe. On the field….. The 1st Team have returned to winning ways but I believe today will be their toughest challenge so far as they come up against in form South Normanton Athletic. The Reserves continue to impress and the Midweek Under 18’s maintain their maximum points start. As a club it has always been my belief that we build a progressive player development programme that keeps the 3 senior teams close together and feeding each other and it looks like we are continuing with this philosophy again this year. The Junior teams have now all started their season and it was really pleasing for me to actually have chance to go and watch the Under 10’s and see firsthand the hard work that our coaches put in during training and actually seeing it in a game situation, well done Rob and Ed and I will be planning to watch all of our Junior teams over the course of the season. All that remains is to thank you all again for your continued support, (I believe we even outnumbered the support at last weeks away game against Radcliffe), it really is appreciated but we still need an “Ivanhoe Flag” for home and away fixtures – any volunteers? Good luck to Tony and the team today Stuart Bonser Club Chairman

AIFC vs South Normanton Athletic | Saturday 27th September 2014 | www.ashbyivanhoefc.com
FIRST TEAM UPDATE I would like to give a warm welcome to the players and officials of South Normanton Athletic FC. Due to recent below par performances, my management team and I have been working with the players in order to deliver consistency within the team and overall performance. However, this task has proved very difficult to carry out due to one of several reasons such as: suspensions, holidays, weddings, anniversaries and stag do’s. Reflecting on the Anstey Nomads game, I thought we weathered the storm first period although I thought we played some good football in between, and at last we were getting crosses into the box from both flanks. The rejuvenated Jack Ryder was quality, both Ryder and Daniel Sharp were head and shoulders the best players on the pitch. Second half, Anstey were relentless in trying to get back into the game, however, our players showed great strength and dealt with the constant attack. Both new members to the first team squad, Scott Cordy and Kerr Horn, gave good accounts of themselves. I think when Cordy has settled in he’ll be a constant threat with his pace. At present, both Kerr and Cordy are finding it difficult to attend first team training due to work commitments, which would be a great benefit to both of them as they would become familiar with the first team players. The away game at Radcliffe Olympic was difficult and eventful; it didn’t help with our players getting caught in the road works during their journey into and out of Nottingham. However, our players showed great resilience as our normal preparation was greatly affected. The game followed a similar format: we opened up the opposition’s defence several times but we failed to either deliver quality or pick out the right pass; which raised player’s anxiety levels and they started to panic when calmness was required. However, credit to our players because it didn’t affect their determination to carry on trying to make the right decision. I must give special credit to Chris Saunders, who scored his 2nd goal of the season; and equally, Dan Stevenson for his great leadership leading the line. The second half was more about staying in front and keeping a clean sheet, which we did. I hope you enjoy today’s game. Anthony Hemmings First Team Manager

MATCH ACTION VS ANSTEY NOMADS ASHBY IVANHOE 2 Thorogood 18, Sharp 36
ANSTEY NOMADS 0
East Midlands Counties Football League Saturday 13th September 2014
Ashby Ivanhoe again bounced back from the previous weeks defeat as they beat second from bottom side Anstey Nomads. Ashby were the better side in the first half and deservedly led 2-0 at the break with goals from Luke Thorogood and Daniel Sharp. The performance wasn't the same in the second half and despite Anstey having the better of the second half they couldn't find a way back into the match. The opening 15 minutes of the match were fairly even with the majority of the play in the midfield and little in the way of goal-scoring chances until Ashby started to increase the pressure and were rewarded with the opening goal on 18 minutes when a cross from the right from Jack Ryder was over the Anstey defence and found Luke Thorogood running in at the back post and he dispatched a first time effort into the roof of the net. The visitors did have a chance to level the scores shortly after when a ball into the area was controlled on the edge of the area before being played back for a team-mate to send a shot at goal but it failed to trouble the keeper and cleared the bar. Ashby then doubled their advantage with nine minutes of the first half remaining with a well taken goal from Daniel Sharp when after receiving the ball he beat a defender before advancing into the area and after waiting for the keeper to make a move he calmly slotted the ball home for his third goal of the season and leave Ashby in control at the break.

MATCH ACTION VS ANSTEY NOMADS The second half was a different story though and although Ashby did strike the woodwork shortly after the restart when a shot was left by the keeper before coming back off the bar it was Anstey who had the better of the chances as Ashby’s performance dropped and it was keeper Chris Hodge who was called into action on 54 minutes to save well by tipping a shot wide. Midway through the half and Anstey should have pulled a goal back when the attacker got past the Ashby defender but the shot was dragged wide of the near post and then soon after another chance was again the wrong side of the post after a shot from the edge of the area. Ashby did have a chance to extend their lead and put the result beyond doubt with 15 minutes remaining when Thorogood burst past a defender before sending a shot across goal which took a deflection before going narrowly wide of the far post and then with ten minutes left another chance came for the visitors when from a corner a header at the back post into the centre of the area resulted in another header which was heading for the corner of the net before the ball was hacked off the line by a defender and despite Ashby being on the back foot for the latter part of the match they came through unscathed with a clean sheet and three points.

MATCH ACTION VS RADCLIFFE OLYMPIC RADCLIFFE OLYMPIC 0 ASHBY IVANHOE 1S
Saunders 22 East Midlands Counties Football League Saturday 20th September 2014 Chris Saunders scored the only goal of the game midway through the first half to give Ashby Ivanhoe their first ever away win in the East Midlands Counties League. The match was far from a classic with Ashby having to dig deep in the second half with to keep their hosts out and secure the win. After a slow start to the match it was Ashby who had the first chance of the match on 15 minutes when a ball over the top of the defence saw Dan Stevenson in behind the Radcliffe defence but after taking the ball forward he was put under pressure by the defender which resulted in the shot being dragged wide of the far post. Ashby did take the lead with their next chance midway through the half when another ball forward again found Stevenson who then flicked his header into the path of Chris Saunders and from close range he managed to beat the keeper to the ball to stick out his boot and send the ball into the back of the Radcliffe net. Just before the half hour mark the home side created a chance to level the scores when a player found themselves behind the Ivanhoe defence and with the angle at the back post too narrow to have a shot the ball was played back across goal but was failed in their attempts to turn the ball home. On the stroke of half time Ashby had two chances in quick succession to double their advantage when firstly a shot from Luke Thorogood was kept out by the keeper and after the ball was cleared Ashby again attacked and a low cross from the left from Stevenson gave Saunders a great opportunity to score again but he failed to connect with the ball and it remained 1-0 at the break. The second half then saw Ashby on the back foot, just like in their previous match against Anstey Nomads, as Radcliffe looked for a way back into the match and on the hour mark they had a chance to level when the ball was pulled back from the right to the edge of the area and a low shot was saved by Chris Hodge before the loose ball was turned around the post. With twenty minutes remaining Ashby created a rare second half chance when a ball forward found Saunders behind the defence but he failed to hit the target with the ball clearing the crossbar and although the hosts had the majority of possession during the second half they found the Ashby defence hard to break down and the match finished 1-0 which saw Ashby into 12th place in what has become a tightly contested midtable.

SUNDAY TEAM UPDATE There has only been one fixture played by the Sunday team since my last update due to the fact that we had no fixture last Sunday, and we were away at Woodville Rangers in a rematch of the prior week’s League Cup 1st Round game which ended up in a 4-1 defeat. There has been a noticeable improvement throughout the season and I am pleased to report we managed to get up and running in Division 2 with a 2-2 draw, I managed to score my 2nd goal in two games with a header from a Richard Commons corner to give us the lead going into the break (and am now considering immediate retirement) but Woodville answered early on in the second half and were fairly fortunate when their dangerous number 15 scuffed a shot which rebounded of both posts and fell to their other forward 6 yards out, our defence should perhaps of been a bit more switched on to the rebound. After some decent Woodville pressure we managed to weather the storm and get back in front as a scrap in the box involving sub Nathan Yeomans and Richard Commons resulted in one of Ranger’s centre halves inexplicably belting the ball into his own top corner. Woodville equalised with 12 minutes on the clock after one of their strikers crossed paths with myself and was awarded a penalty. The game had a lot more incident besides just the goals, Leon Yeoman’s clattering the post twice, Adam Davis with a penalty save, and not for the first time we created countless chances for ourselves and simply weren’t good enough in front of goal, something we will need to correct if we want to keep ourselves in Division 2 next year. Our next set of fixtures have been published along with the three cup draws, following the visit of Shobnall Dynamo at Hood Park tomorrow next Sunday we travel to Enderby to reacquaint ourselves with former Charnwood Sunday League rivals Leicestershire Constabulary FC in the 1st Round of the Sunday Shield (County Cup). Given some of the divisions entering teams into the Shield this year going far in this competition will be extremely difficult for us however the tie against the now Alliance League Division 4 side is definitely being viewed as winnable. We then welcome last season’s Division 3 winners Yoxall Rangers to Hood Park before taking on Division 4 side TS Sports in the 2nd Round of the Junior Cup with a place in the last 16 up for grabs. The final cup is the Division 2 only cup where we’ve been handed a bye, meaning we move straight to the quarter final where we will play Woodville Rangers for the 3rd time this season on 16th November. All of our fixtures can be found via the Burton Sunday League FA Full time website and all the best to Tony and the lads today as they look to continue their recent good form. DOWN MEMORY LANE WITH MOG The travelling Ivanhoe army had an enjoyable day out last Saturday at Radcliffe Olympic where a well taken goal from Chris Saunders & some resolute defending gave us our first away win at this level. It’s great to visit some new grounds but I have to say that Radcliffe’s is not one I’ll be dashing back to, not unless Muzzy is buying the Cider or Charlie is sharing his pick n mix. Anyway on to this week’s “memory lane” subject which is the spirit of The FA’s RESPECT campaign is er ………punch ups! As last weeks’ game at Radcliffe ended with a good old fashioned 20 man “handbags” push and shove, after their substitute was correctly sent off for head-butting Nez, it reminded me of other skirmishes that we have encountered down the years. The first I remember was at Alrewas when as a young centre half I embarked on a mazy run down the wing (stop chuckling at the back please) I was what can only be described as macheted down in full flight and kicked literally off the pitch. When I looked up after I had landed I witnessed a full scale 22 man+ (including subs, managers and anyone else who was passing) brawl! Tony Taylor was fists up like Henry Cooper, Joey Cadle was on someone’s back swinging away, Phil Barnett, Sammy Underwood & Gunner were all getting stuck in but best of all was our erstwhile manager & goalkeeper Mick Broxhome, who brought events to a swift conclusion on my assailant by knocking him out with one punch, a tremendous effort it has to be said but as it turned out it wasn’t quite in The Queensbury Rules as he admitted later he was holding the match day “subs” of about £30 in a coinage bag at the time, ouch, but justice served. A more recent incident occurred on a County Cup away trip to The Ship Inn in let’s just say “darkest” Leicester. We were politely fulfilling our role as “country bumpkins” and losing 2-0 to the nice “City Boys” when with 5 minutes to go Big Foz bundled one in, and then we upset them totally when Sav equalised with a header in the final minute. It was then that things started to go very badly wrong. It was a long walk back to the changing rooms and before he had even left the pitch the most mild mannered player ever, Ian Stewart had been head butted, various other players were threatened & jostled as we walked to the extent that some of the players grabbed their kitbags and legged it. Others decided to stay and shower but after some of our boys had prodded the lunatics with a few verbal sticks, one player completely lost the plot and started to smash his way into our changing room in a scene reminiscent from The Shinning. Kev Allsop was on the other side holding him back until some of their slightly less certifiable players held him back so we could escape. In an interesting footnote to the story at the end of season league presentation guess who Ashby Ivanhoe were seated next to? Yes got it in one….The Ship, who had now folded due to repeated unpaid fines (fancy that eh!) and the player who smashed our door down was now in prison, tremendous. Good luck to Tony and the boys today, enjoy the game. Dave Morris Club President

ASHBY IVANHOE FC SUPPORTERS CLUB A warm welcome to everyone here today for Ivanhoe’s match against South Normanton Athletic here at the NFU Sports Ground. Last Saturday we gained a valuable 3 points with a 1-0 away victory at Radcliffe Olympic after a spirited and dogged performance. I cannot make it today as unfortunately while you are reading this programme I should be 35000 ft up on my way to the sunshine in Tenerife for a well earned holiday and a few cold beers. Anyway back to today’s game against South Normanton who are currently second in the league and will obviously be a tough match. Sorry Tony my prediction for this one is a 3-1 defeat and our Dave will let me know the final score but either way it will be a few more cold beers. Last weekend also saw my grandson’s teams victorious with the Under 11s winning 4-2 with both lads scoring goals. Our reserve team had a brilliant 5-1 away victory at Ratby Sports and are currently third in the league and good luck to all our teams this weekend. Don’t forget if have any comments regarding the club please e-mail me at mh.buckley@btinternet.com Mick Buckley Supporters Club Chairman

THE OPPOSITION SOUTH NORMANTON ATHLETIC Football was first played at Lees Lane in the 1926/27 season playing under the name of South Normanton Miners Welfare, and progressed to the Central Alliance Football League and after into the Sutton and Skegby League. The nickname ‘Shiners’ derives from the mid 1750’s when South Normanton was at the heart of the ribbed stocking industry. The people involved in this craft worked long hours sitting at their windows on wooden stools, so much so, that the backsides of their trousers became very shiny making them instantly recognisable as coming from the South Normanton area and since then local people have been referred to and called ‘Shiners’. Under the new name South Normanton Athletic joined the Central Midlands Football League in the 1990/91 season. The clubs first major success came in the 1993/94 season when they finished runners up in the Premier Division. This gained them promotion to the Supreme Division. The club made their first entry into the FA Vase in the 1994/95 season. In the 1996/97 season disaster struck when the old changing rooms were destroyed by fire. The clubs future lay in the balance and with limited time available members of the committee virtually worked round the clock to convert a derelict building into suitable changing rooms, which at the time were intended to be for a temporary period only the leagues deadline for completion was accomplished with little time to spare. At the end of the 1996/1997 season, the club was relegated due to the 3 year flood light installation rule not being met; funds set aside to complete this project had been spent in establishing new changing rooms. The floodlights were completed in 1998 and the club was reinstated back into the Supreme Division. The team’s best position being 3rd which a promotion place was awarded. The club was promoted to the Northern Counties East League for the start of the 2003/04 season where they played till the club decided to fold at the end of the 2007/08 season due to an ageing committee and no new blood coming to the club. We have now reformed the club with a new committee, management and players. For the first time in a long while there is an air of optimism and expectancy of bigger and better things to come at Lees Lane. As one of the old committee members said “it’s just nice to see football being played here again”. That enthusiasm bore fruit last season when the club were promoted to Step 6 of the football pyramid and were accepted into the East Midlands Counties League. We hope to keep the momentum going and hopefully achieve further success. The clubs reserve team were also accepted into the Nottingham Senior League in season 2014/15 to open another chapter in the clubs history.

ASHBY IVANHOE FC CLUB HISTORY Ashby Ivanhoe Football Club was founded in 1948 and play their home matches at the NFU Sports Ground, Lower Packington Road, Ashby de la Zouch in Leicestershire. This is the clubs new home from the beginning of the 2012/2013 season. Since being founded in 1948 up until the end of the 2011/2012 season the clubs previous home was at Hood Park also in Ashby de la Zouch. The club currently consists of three adult teams and a youth team. The first team play in the East Midlands Counties League, with the Reserves in the Leicestershire Senior League Division One. In the 2008/2009 season the club formed a Youth Team (Under 18’s) side who play in the Leicestershire Midweek Floodlit Youth League on Wednesday nights. A Sunday team was re-introduced for the 2012/2013 season and they play in the Burton Sunday League Division Two. The club also has 11 junior sides ranging from Under 9’s through to Under 17’s who play in the Burton Junior Football League, Tamworth Junior Football League and the Derby City League. The junior section came after the club merged with the David Hunt Soccer School at the beginning of the 20092010 season. In February 2004, Ashby Ivanhoe became an FA Charter Standard football club. The club is very ambitious and has plans to progress further up the league pyramid system. The club is run by an experienced management team and enjoys the support of some very prestigious commercial partners. Ashby Ivanhoe had one of their most successful seasons in 2010/11 as they completed a league and cup double by winning the Leicestershire Senior League by nine points and also lifted the Coalville Charity Cup for the very first time after producing a superb second half comeback to beat Bardon Hill 3-2 in the final. They have also reached successive Leicestershire Senior Cup finals in 2011/2012 and 2012/2013 but had to settle for runners-up on both occasions losing 3-1, firstly to Ibstock United and then Aylestone Park. The 2013/2014 season saw the first team achieve a long-term ambition as they won promotion into the Step 6 East Midlands Counties League for the 2014/2015 season after finishing third place in the Leicestershire Senior League. It was a close title race with the top three all finishing level on points with Ashby third on goal difference. The Reserves were also promoted to the Leicestershire Senior League Division One.
