CHAIRMANS WELCOME Good afternoon and welcome to todays match against FC GNG and may I extend a warm welcome to the Players, Officials and Supporters of FC GNG and hope that you enjoy the match and our hospitality. For those of you who watched the last 1st Team game against Desford FC, I am sure that you will agree that the goal scored by Chris Nettel will rank amongst one of the best you will see this season. The support that the teams continue to receive is fantastic to see and we are now regularly attracting spectators over the 60+ mark and I thank each and every one of you for your continued support. In addition to this ground, I went along to watch our Midweek Under 18’s v Ibstock last week and the support there, that evening, was fantastic to see and Alex’s team didn’t disappoint them as they grabbed another 1-0 win and much deserved too. On the note of support, it has been equally pleasing to welcome many “groundhoppers” to the ground this season and many of which travel over 100+ miles to come and watch the game, thank you to you all. As you will see in this programme we are holding a Christmas Raffle this year with a Cash Prize of £250 and tickets are now available from within the clubhouse or from any member of the management team. All proceeds raised will go towards the clubs development fund and assist with more improvements to the ground. Please support the club and buy your tickets before 21st December when the draw will take place in the Clubhouse. The ground has just been “earthquaked” too and you may still be able to see the grooves all over the pitch. This work will help with the drainage during the next few months and hopefully mean we have less cancelled fixtures due to wet. This Tuesday (3rd December) sees one of the football clubs “Community Partners”, The Lewis Charlton School, play a friendly match between themselves and Longdon Hall School versus 7/8 Police officers from Leicestershire Constabulary. The game has been organised by PC Mark Arjoo and all of the Police Officers are giving up their free time to play an 11-a-side game of football, (remaining players to be made up from LCS and Longdon Hall staff) to support better relationships between young people and the Police. This is the third time the game has taken place, but the first time that Longdon Hall have been invited to play alongside Lewis Charlton. The match kicks off at 12.30pm and feel free to come along and watch the game. Let’s hope that the team can maintain their winning ways today. Enjoy the match Stuart Bonser - Club Chairman

FIRST TEAM UPDATE Welcome to Ashby Ivanhoe FC. Today’s visitors are GNG, who will equally find themselves in a difficult situation with playing back to back league fixtures in a week. As we would like to continue our winning run, it will be a phenomenal task for our players to gain maximum points from both games, however, we’ll do everything within our powers to achieve our objective. Over the past 8 weeks, we have signed a number of new players, which I believe have raised the standard of our play, and also increased the numbers of first team players at training. However, due to some players having work commitments, the attendance is still below my expectations. Furthermore, due to past attitudes, a number of players choose not to attend training. Therefore, my ambition over the forthcoming months or so is to change this attitude and encourage as many first team players as possible to train regularly, as this is conducive to winning football matches. Fitness, sharpness, familiarity with teammates and my high expectations are part of the elements that make up our team dynamics. Therefore, not committing to regular training will greatly affect the way we play. My message to all the players at the club is to ‘embrace competition’: good football players thrive on competition and if you want to develop as a person and as a player you need to look upon competition as a healthy notion to improve. If you’re not in the first team 11 or playing in the reserves, this does not mean you are not in my plans or won’t play a part in future matches. You need to make sure you stay positive, work as hard as you physically can and I can guarantee you that it will benefit you as a football player. SUNDAY TEAM UPDATE Since the last update the Sunday team have continued to maintain a title challenge with a win and a draw in the last two matches. The first match was a home game against Real Roebuck and the winning streak was extended to three matches as we came from behind to record a 3-2 victory. We didn’t start well and they took an early lead before Craig Eastwood got us back into it with his first of the season. They restored their advantage before Richard Commons bent a spectacular rare right footed goal into the top corner from 18 yards just before half time. The second half was a cagey affair and the game was decided by an own goal in the 89th minute as Common’s cross was put into the back of Roebucks net by one of their defenders. Last weekend saw us travel away to face Red Lion Repton where we had to recover from a poor start to share the points. Again we didn’t start well and inside the opening twenty minutes we found ourselves 3-0 down. We managed to get back into the match before half time as Richard Commons scored from the spot before Warren Nicol pounced on a free kick to make it 3-2. Midway through the second half Commons scored a second penalty to level up the scores and despite chances following for both teams neither could find a winner. The result left us fourth in the table but just two points off top spot. Throughout December we play at home every weekend which includes a couple of cup quarter finals with the first coming on the 8th December when we face Winshill Parish in the Junior Challenge Cup and then on the 22nd December it’s the Division 3 Cup when Shobnall Dynamo visit Hood Park. There are also three league fixtures as we look to keep up the pressure at the top of the table, facing Westfield Wanderers (1st December), Red Lion Repton (15th December) and Wetmore Washlands (29th December) Stuart Mann Sunday Team Assistant Manager

UNDER 18s MIDWEEK UPDATE Firstly I’d like to welcome FC GNG to the NFU Sports Ground today for what promises to be a fantastic game. Well it’s been a few weeks since my last update but I’m pleased to say that the boys are still sitting pretty at the top of the tree AND are still unbeaten. It was good to welcome Kerr Horn back after injury and although the pitch was very heavy and the conditions were horrendous it took a late James Rushton goal to take victory after a closely fought local derby win against a very resolute Ibstock United. Next week will possibly be our sternest test yet as we face current Southern League leaders Aylestone Park 94’ FC in the Quarter Finals of the County Cup so it would be good to see a few familiar faces down ‘The Fortress’ to support the boys. Anyway…I’ve kept it short so that Doug Kendrick stays awake and I would like to wish Tony and all the boys the best for today’s game and I’m sure we’ll be treated to a cracker. Despite never hitting the heights of their recent performances the home side still had too much class and quality against spirited but limited opposition. Ashby took a long time to get into their usual rhythm but once they did there was only ever going to be one winner.

The opener on twenty minutes was the first of three goals in five minutes and came when Islam held the ball up well before playing in Shakespeare for a nice finish. Evans soon made it two when he set off on a solo run from the half way line and drove the ball home at the near post. Ben Jones narrowly missed a sharp chance before Evans’ low cross from the right was poked in at the far post by Shakespeare for the third. Luke Williams almost made it four shortly after when his shot from a half-cleared corner was blocked near the line.

Rolleston were struggling to cope with the home sides’ high tempo game and limited to a couple of breakaways but Ollie Burrows enjoyed a relatively quiet afternoon in the Ashby goal. Ashby started the second half in similar vein to the first and again took time to settle down, but another burst of three quick goals midway through the half sealed the points. Evans was the architect of the fourth when he slid the ball into the box for Islam to finish before scoring the goal of the game himself shortly after. A neat build up and passing move ended when Ethan Humphries’ superb cross from the left was headed home by Evans. Shakespeare then completed his hat-trick when he expertly lofted the ball over the keeper from the edge of the box before Evans rounded it off from the spot to complete his fourth hat-trick in the last four games.
