CHAIRMANS WELCOME Good afternoon and welcome to this afternoon’s East Midlands Counties League fixture against our visitors Stapenhill FC and may I extend a warm welcome to the players, officials and spectators of Stapenhill FC and hope that we all enjoy a good match. This afternoon sees the first team at home for the first time in almost a month following the postponement of the last three home fixtures due to the wet weather we are experiencing. This now means we have a lot of fixtures to pull in over the final two months of the season with 15 league matches still to play and also the League Cup Semi Final. Talking of the League Cup Semi Final this has now been confirmed by the league following the quarter finals and our opponents will be Birstall United and full details of the fixture are at the bottom of this page but it would be great if we can reach the final as this would be a great way to end what has been a history making season for the football club and to top it off with League Cup success would be fantastic. Also all of the postponed matches in recent weeks have now been re-arranged with details at the bottom of the page and also on page 11 of the programme you will see the full list from now until the end of April and it would be great if you can come along and support the team when you can be it at home or away. Today’s match sees us come up against a Stapenhill side who have suffered a poor run of form of late but they are always a tough side to beat and matches between the two sides are normally closely fought affairs and today will be no different but if the team can maintain their focus and continue to play how they have in recent games then hopefully by 4:50pm we can have another three points on the board as we look to move up the table in the final weeks of the season. All that remains is to wish the team well today and hope that we all enjoy a good afternoon of football. Matthew Lester Programme Editor Ps – if you are visiting the ground by car please DO NOT OBSTRUCT the junction to Cambrian Way by parking on the grass/path verge as this is both dangerous and you could get a fixed penalty notice from the Council and or Police. RE-ARRANGED FIXTURES & LEAGUE CUP SEMI FINAL The two recent home league fixtures against Greenwood Meadows and Barrow Town which were postponed have been re-arranged and will be played in the next couple of weeks. The Greenwood Meadows match will take place this coming Tuesday, 7th March and the Barrow Town fixture will now take place on Tuesday 14th March with both matches kicking off at 7:45pm. The League Cup Semi Final has now been confirmed. Ashby will meet Birstall United with the match taking place on Tuesday 21st March and will be played at Barrow Town’s ground with a 7:45pm kick off. It would be great to take a large travelling support to the game and the ground address is, Riverside Park, Barrow Road, Quorn, LE12 8EN. vs Stapenhill | Saturday 4th March 2017 | www.ashbyivanhoefc.com

FIRST TEAM UPDATE Managers Talk Good afternoon and welcome to the NFU Sports Ground for this afternoon’s league game against Stapenhill FC. We would like to welcome all those connected with Stapenhill and hope you have a safe journey home. Last time out we played what was in my eyes a very frustrating game against a very workman-like Aylestone Park side who were difficult to break down. They had a rigid game plan of very low risk football whereby they played direct, moving the ball from back to front as quick as possible, leaving us the task of breaking them down in order to get anything from the game. We started brightly and were by far the better side coming in 1-0 up at half time. The message to the lads was that we were in control but needed to make better decisions as Aylestone’s only openings had come from us not clearing our lines. The second half started very much the same and after 60 minutes we’d had hit the post, had another cleared off the line, a close range header into the keeper’s arms and another couple of good chances. As we know in football, these missed opportunities can come back to haunt you and unfortunately, mine and Steve’s message of taking less risks and playing a more direct style in the second half wasn’t taken on board by our players. We began to get sloppy as legs got tired and 2 defensive mistakes cost us. The disappointment in our dressing room accompanied by the cheers in the Aylestone dressing room made us all acutely aware that we’d let them out of jail. We were the architects of our own downfall. Mine and Steve’s message to the lads was that in games at the top of the league, fine margins are the difference between taking those deserved points or coming away empty handed - we learnt the hard way, but it is an education for some of the younger lads about how to get over the line in certain games, all of which will stand us in better stead moving forwards to next season. Unfortunately, with 2 games being called off in between because of the weather, we have not had a chance to get the bitter taste of that defeat out of our mouths. Hopefully we can do that today against a very good Stapenhill side who have hit a bit of a sticky patch. Enjoy the game. ASHBY IVANHOE FC CLUB HISTORY Ashby Ivanhoe Football Club was founded in 1948 and play their home matches at the NFU Sports Ground, Lower Packington Road, Ashby de la Zouch in Leicestershire. This is the clubs new home from the beginning of the 2012/2013 season. Since being founded in 1948 up until the end of the 2011/2012 season the clubs previous home was at Hood Park also in Ashby de la Zouch. The club currently consists of four adult teams and a youth team. The first team play in the East Midlands Counties League, with the Reserves in the Leicestershire Senior League Premier Division. In the 2008/2009 season the club formed a Youth Team (Under 18’s) side who play in the Leicestershire Midweek Floodlit Youth League on Wednesday nights. A Sunday team was re-introduced for the 2012/2013 season and they play in the Burton Sunday League Division Three. For 2015/2016 a third Saturday side has been formed who will play in the North Leicestershire Football League Division One. The club also has 11 junior sides ranging from Under 9’s through to Under 17’s who play in the Burton Junior Football League, Tamworth Junior Football League and the Derby City League. The junior section came after the club merged with the David Hunt Soccer School at the beginning of the 2009-2010 season. In February 2004, Ashby Ivanhoe became an FA Charter Standard football club. The club is very ambitious and has plans to progress further up the league pyramid system. The club is run by an experienced management team and enjoys the support of some very prestigious commercial partners. Ashby Ivanhoe had one of their most successful seasons in 2010/11 as they completed a league and cup double by winning the Leicestershire Senior League by nine points and also lifted the Coalville Charity Cup for the very first time after producing a superb second half comeback to beat Bardon Hill 3-2 in the final. They have also reached successive Leicestershire Senior Cup finals in 2011/2012 and 2012/2013 but had to settle for runners-up on both occasions losing 3-1, firstly to Ibstock United and then Aylestone Park. The 2013/2014 season saw the first team achieve a long-term ambition as they won promotion into the Step 6 East Midlands Counties League for the 2014/2015 season after finishing third place in the Leicestershire Senior League. It was a close title race with the top three all finishing level on points with Ashby third on goal difference. The Reserves were also promoted to the Leicestershire Senior League Division One. 2014/2015 saw Ashby compete at Step 6 of the non-league pyramid for the first time and they had a very good season and secured a top six finish in the East Midlands Counties League which featured victories against all of the sides above them. The Reserve side were involved in a tight title race and it went down to a last day decider against Lutterworth Athletic Reserves but despite the result going against them on the day they were still promoted for the second season in succession and will play at Step 7 in the Leicestershire Senior League Premier Division for 2015/2016.
