Good afternoon and welcome to today’s FA VASE game against Racing Club Warwick and may I extend a very warm welcome to the players, officials and spectators of Racing Club Warwick and hope you enjoy our hospitality and the game. The Bank Holiday weekend fixtures saw us take 4 points from 6 and took us to the top of the league with a last minute winner from Danny Quinn against Ellistown and Ibstock United on Monday. Today witnesses the first FA VASE game for Ashby Ivanhoe FC at the NFU and it’s a proud day for all concerned with the club and one that I hope will see us progress in this competition. We have featured in the FA VASE previously on Hood Park. Today also sees the first game in the league for our newly formed Development Team as they host Anstey Crown on Western Park. The side is managed by Jamie Appleby and the purpose of the team is to offer our youth players the first experience at senior football and a platform for them to progress into the reserves and hopefully first team. Good luck to Jamie and the players. Ahead of writing these notes our Midweek Under 18’s team kicks off their season at Borrowash Victoria and are at home on Wednesday 9th September against Saffron Dynamo, come along and show the lads your support. Good luck to Alex and his players for the season. We are still on the lookout for more volunteers to help prepare the ground before match days and to assist on match days so please come forward or spread the word if you are interested. The month of September sees a fixture packed month so be sure to keep your eyes peeled on the website for up to date results and fixtures throughout September. All that remains is to wish the team good luck for today’s match and hope we are all in for an entertaining afternoon of football. Stuart Bonser Club Chairman

FIRST TEAM UPDATE Good afternoon and welcome to the home of Ashby Ivanhoe FC. May I extend a very warm welcome on behalf of the Club to everyone attending today’s match and in particular the players, officials and supporters of our opponents Racing Club Warwick. The FA Vase provides clubs at our level with their most realistic opportunity of stepping out on the hallowed Wembley turf. A couple of seasons ago St Andrew’s from our league got to the semi-final stage only to narrowly bow out to Northern League outfit West Auckland Town 1-2 on aggregate. With the possibility of 9 rounds in order to reach the Final, the Vase can become a bit of an adventure as it evolves from the early regional stages into a competition that can see you playing anywhere in the four corners of the country with overnight stops and all that comes with that! Personally, I have never been past the last 16 but having played with and managed lads who have gone all the way and in some cases scored in the final at Wembley, there should be a fierce motivation and desire in everyone at the Club to do well in this competition. The first two Qualifying Rounds are pre-determined and the victors of today’s tie will travel to Staffordshire to play Stone Old Alleynians who ply their trade in the West Midlands Regional Premier League. Back to our League campaign the last two games against Anstey Nomads (home) and Ellistown & Ibstock United (away) have seen us accumulate a further four points which on the face of it is an acceptable return. In reality, we have had good lengthy spells of dominance in both games but have given our opponents encouragement by either failing to take chances when in the ascendancy or been seemingly reluctant to “pull the trigger” when in good shooting positions. They say hindsight is a wonderful thing and given our time again as a management team we would probably set the team out differently than we did last Saturday against Anstey. We worked on and saw something in training that we took into Saturday’s game but falling behind for the first time this season against the run of play meant we had limited time to let the team settle. The changes we made at half time were by no means a reflection on the players we brought off more an acceptance that we got slightly ahead of ourselves with certain aspects of our game. Bank Holiday Monday’s victory was particularly sweet for Andy given his brother manages Ellistown and Ibstock United. Never has a game illustrated the old adage “goals change games” as we rode out the early stages of pressure, took the lead and looked comfortable in the second half until we lost concentration letting them back into the game. After the equaliser for a few minutes it looked as if the home side were the most likely to take all three points but we rallied and credit to the players for sticking at it. If we can match teams in terms of commitment and work rate our quality should prevail more often than not, the delivery and finish for the late winner bore testament to that. With respect to today’s fixture, let’s hope we can build on the hard work and efforts of the last few weeks and produce an entertaining performance with the desired outcome. The twin towers may have been replaced by an arch and our great game railroaded by greed and self-obsession but it’s still WEMBERLEE, WEMBERLEE……………… Let’s put the Carling on ice! Thank you for your support and enjoy the game. Miles Warriner First Team Management Team

MATCH ACTION VS ANSTEY NOMADS ASHBY IVANHOE 1-1 ANSTEY NOMADS EAST MIDLANDS COUNTIES FOOTBALL LEAGUE SATURDAY 29TH AUGUST 2015 Ashby Ivanhoe remain unbeaten but dropped to third place in the East Midlands Counties League after being held to a 1-1 draw by Anstey Nomads. After a lengthy early stoppage due to an injury to the Anstey keeper they took the lead when a shot saw keeper Luke Hemingway get a hand to the ball but not enough to keep it out before Ashby levelled on 39 minutes when a free kick from Chris Waldrum was played deep into the area and went straight over the keeper and into the net. The second half was largely uneventful and the points were deservedly shared. The match was little over five minutes old when a collision between the Anstey goalkeeper and Ashby forward resulted in a ten minute delay while the Anstey player received treatment and shortly afterwards the first chance of the game fell the way of the visitors when a ball into the area saw a header sent goalwards but Luke Hemingway held on. Ashby had a chance to take the lead on 26 minutes when a cross into the area found Danny Quinn but he failed to get the required connection onto the ball and the chance was gone. Two minutes later and the visitors were in front when the ball was played across from the left which found the forward player and his shot aimed over the keeper saw Hemingway get a hand to the ball but not enough from keeping it out the net with the ball finding the net just inside the far post. Ashby levelled the scores with their next chance on 39 minutes when they were awarded a free kick on the right touchline. Chris Waldrum took the free kick which was deep into the area and didn’t look like causing too many problems as it was away from the Ivanhoe players in the area but the ball found its way over the keeper and straight into the net just under the crossbar. Deep into first half stoppage time Luke Thorogood has a chance to give Ashby the lead but his shot was deflected which saw the ball go wide and the teams went in at the break all square. The second half saw Anstey go close to re-taking the lead just five minutes in when they hit the woodwork as a cross into the area came back off the crossbar before Ashby cleared the ball to safety. Chances were then at a premium and neither side could find away through the defences with the match finishing 1-1 and a share of the points. MATCH ACTION VS ELLISTOWN & IBSTOCK UNITED ELLISTOWN & IBSTOCK UNITED 1-2 ASHBY IVANHOE EAST MIDLANDS COUNTIES FOOTBALL LEAGUE MONDAY 31ST AUGUST 2015 Danny Quinn headed in a 94th minute winner as Ashby Ivanhoe moved to the top of the East Midlands Counties League with a 2-1 local derby victory over Ellistown & Ibstock United. Ashby had taken the lead just before half time when Quinn netted his first of the afternoon before a defensive error gave Ellistown & Ibstock their equaliser 15 minutes from time. With the match seemingly heading for a draw Quinn popped up in stoppage time to head in following a corner. It was Ashby who had the first chance of the match inside the first five minutes when a long ball forward found Quinn and he set up Chris Waldrum for a shot from the edge of the area but the keeper was equal to it and tipped the ball wide of the far post. The home side then started to get a foothold in the game and they were getting forward on quite a few occasions but they lacked the firepower in the final third with most balls into the area being cut out by the Ashby defence as chances were at a premium for large periods of the first half. The first goal of the game came just before the half time break when Ashby won a corner and a well worked routine paid dividends. The corner was taken short by Waldrum who quickly received the ball back before whipping it into the area and from a central position Quinn was there to head home and give Ashby a 1-0 lead at the break. The second half followed a similar pattern to the first with Ashby starting the half the better and they had a chance to double their lead on 51 minutes when again Quinn received the ball and after creating space for the shot the keeper produced a fine save to see the ball over the bar. Ellistown then eased their way back into the match and had a great chance to level just short of the hour mark when they were awarded a free kick just outside the area and with the keeper beaten the ball was just high and wide of the far post. The equaliser came fifteen minutes from time and it was an avoidable goal from Ashby’s point of view as they gave away the ball cheaply which Ellistown capitalised on and after advancing forward the ball was placed across the area and the player made no mistake with the shot finding the bottom corner. The final ten minutes of the match saw Ashby push forward in search of a winner and when it looked like the match would end in a draw Quinn netted his second of the match. The goal came in similar style to the first with Ashby winning a corner and this time instead of playing it short Waldrum sent the ball direct into the area and Quinn got his head to the ball to direct it past the keeper and into the bottom corner. ASHBY IVANHOE LINE-UP: Luke Hemingway, Ali Abdillahi, Evan Cawley, Patrick Rowell, Tom Rowell, Sam Johnson, Scott Cordy, Luke Thorogood, Daniel Quinn, Kerr Horn, Chris Waldrum SUBSTITUTES: None Used GOALS: Daniel Quinn (43, 90+4) ATTENDANCE: 85

RESERVE TEAM UPDATE August has seen the Reserves play four competitive games chalking up two wins and two defeats including a 3-0 League Cup Preliminary Round victory at the NFU against Kirby Muxloe Reserves. The league campaign got off to a flyer away at old rivals Allexton & New Parks recording a 4-1 victory thanks to a brace from Kerr Horn. Next up was the visit of Saffron Dynamo to the NFU who finished a credible 3rd last season in the league. With three player changes to the defence necessary combined with a slow start and basic errors the reserves found themselves 3-0 down within the hour. Great character was shown in the last 30 minutes though as new signing Charlie Caines scored along with a Rob Avins penalty and a strike from Sam Kirk; but painfully a late injury time winner from Dynamo left the reserves defeated in the first home game. Birstall United were next up at home who also came with realistic ambitions of a promotion push this season after finishing 4th last season. Similarly to Dynamo, Birstall played at a high tempo from the off and they too caught Ivanhoe's defence cold building a 3-0 lead from some fine finishes and a mis-hit cross. Again Ashby failed to cave in and had the better of the 2nd half creating many chances leading to a dramatic finish once again after Bouable and a thunderbolt from Clamp found the net. Unfortunately late pressure failed to pay off and the result ended up 3-2 to Birstall. The Reserves recorded their first home victory in the Preliminary Round of the League Cup against Kirby Muxloe Reserves producing a very good display having the majority of possession throughout the match seeing goals from Conkay, Bouable and Cordy on the night. Next up in the cup is a tricky away fixture against Blaby & Whetstone Reserves at the end of September. In general the two tough opening homes games have given the Reserves a reminder of the step up in quality of opposition from last season but they can take spirit from how they reacted after losing a number of early goals. Also to have scored 9 goals in 3 league games is a real positive. Next up... Earl Shilton Albion FC away this afternoon, 3pm kick off Alex Clarke Reserve Team Assistant Manager

UNDER 9s MANAGEMENT OPPORTUNITY Ashby Ivanhoe FC are on the lookout for a manager to work alongside another manager with the Under 9's team based at the Central venue of Burton Washlands on a Saturday morning. The current manager can only commit to 2 or 3 Saturday's out of every month so this would be a great opportunity for someone to work alongside someone else in a joint capacity and share match day responsibility. If anyone would be up for the challenge or knows someone who is then please get in touch. vs Racing Club Warwick | Saturday 5th September 2015 | www.ashbyivanhoefc.com

RESERVE MATCH ACTION VS KIRBY MUXLOE RESERVES ASHBY IVANHOE RESERVES 3-0 KIRBY MUXLOE RESERVES BEACON BITTER LEAGUE CUP PRELIMINARY ROUND TUESDAY 25TH AUGUST 2015 Ashby Ivanhoe Reserves scored three second half goals to progress in the Beacon Bitter League Cup with victory over Kirby Muxloe Reserves. The first half saw goal-scoring chances at a premium before an improved performance in the second half and goals from Scott Cordy, Jake Conkay and Marc Bouable saw Ashby through to the first round. The first chance of the match came on 16 minutes and it was Ashby who almost opened the scoring when a shot from Antonio Williams was blocked by a defender and the follow-up effort was saved by the keeper. Midway through the half and the visitors had their first chance when the ball was played low through the Ashby defence and the player ran onto the ball before sending a shot goalwards but the keeper was quick to react and had rushed off his line to produce a fine save. A couple of minutes later and Ashby were the width of the post away from taking the lead when a cross into the area found Chris Nettel and his glancing header came back off the inside of the far post with the keeper beaten and with no further chances the teams went in at the break all square. The second half saw Ashby the more attacking of the two sides and they were rewarded with the opening goal just past the hour mark when the ball was slotted through the Kirby defence and substitute Scott Cordy was well placed to send a shot across the keeper and into the far corner. It didn’t take long for Ashby to double their advantage and within ten minutes it was 2-0 when a free kick from out wide on the right was swung into the area and with the visitors unable to get the ball clear it broke to Jake Conkay and from a central position he struck a shot which the keeper managed to get a hand to but not enough to keep it out. The scoring was completed three minutes from time when a long ball forward from inside the Ashby half found Marc Bouable and after bringing the ball under control he rounded the keeper who had come off his line to close down the Ivanhoe striker before placing his shot into the unguarded net and put Ashby into the first round where they will face an away tie against Blaby & Whetstone Athletic Reserves. ASHBY IVANHOE LINE-UP: Connor Cannon, Charlie Caines, Rob Avins, Patrick Rowell, Jake Conkay, Daniel Turnock, George Clamp, Chris Nettel, Marc Bouable, Antonio Williams, Sam Kirk SUBSTITUTES: Sam Carline, Scott Cordy, Michael Ellis GOALS: Scott Cordy (61), Jake Conkay (70), Marc Bouable (87)

ASHBY IVANHOE FA VASE HISTORY Ashby Ivanhoe have had only a short history of playing in the FA Vase. This was for the three seasons from 2009/2010 through to 2011/2012 when they competed in the Leicestershire Senior League. Ashby have never reached the competition proper, falling at the second qualifying round stage on two occasions, but they have produced some entertaining football against teams which were higher in the football pyramid. Today’s first qualifying round tie against Racing Club Warwick is also the first FA Vase match to be held at the NFU Sports Ground.

2009/2010

The first season in the FA Vase saw a visit from Coventry Sphinx who played at Step 5, two levels higher than Ashby at the time, in the then Midland Alliance. Ashby more than matched their opponents during the 90 minutes but they fell behind inside five minutes and despite pushing for an equaliser a second Coventry goal ten minutes from time saw Ashby’s hopes of an upset ended.

2010/2011

The following season saw Ashby drawn away in the first qualifying round at Step 6 side Dudley Sports of the West Midlands Regional League. Followed by a strong Ivanhoe support Ashby won their first and currently only match in the FA Vase as an entertaining game finished 4-3. The first half swung one way then the other as first Ashby took the lead only for Dudley to turn it around before Ashby levelled to make it 2-2 at the break. Two goals midway through the second half put Ashby in control before a third Dudley goal in the second minute of stoppage time was just a consolation. The second qualifying round saw Ashby on the road again with a trip to Wednesfield, also of the West Midlands Regional League, and the same army of fans travelled with the team to the game hoping to see them reach the first round proper. The dream was quickly over though as some poor defending saw Ashby 4-0 down at the break. Ashby tightened up defensively in the second half but fell to a 5-1 defeat. 2011/2012 Having received a bye in the first qualifying round Ashby were drawn at home against East Midlands Counties League side St Andrews in the second qualifying round. Ashby’s hopes though of reaching the first round were again quickly diminished as they fell 3-0 down inside 25 minutes and despite a late comeback with two goals inside the final twenty minutes they were beaten 4-2.

ASHBY IVANHOE FA VASE CLASSIC MATCH DUDLEY SPORTS 3-4 ASHBY IVANHOE FA VASE FIRST QUALIFYING ROUND SATURDAY 4TH SEPTEMBER 2010 Ashby Ivanhoe progressed through to the Second Qualifying round of the FA Vase for the first time in their history after a solid performance against West Midlands Regional League side Dudley Sports saw them run on 4-3 winners largely thanks to a brilliant hat-trick from midfielder Mark Muir. After a scrappy start to the match from both teams it was Ashby who opened the scoring in the tenth minute when a corner was played deep into the area from Brian Barker and Elliot Bott rose above the defender to send a header towards goal which the keeper could only parry and the loose ball was pounced upon by Ollie Hunt who sent an unstoppable shot into the net. The match remained scrappy but Dudley Sports equalised six minutes after going behind when the ball was played over the top of the Ivanhoe defence and with two Dudley players clear on goal looking marginally offside the flag stayed down and after the striker evaded the last ditch tackle he slotted the ball past Noon at the near post. Dudley soon turned the game around and although Ashby had settled into the game it was the home side who took the lead for the first time in the 26th minute when a free kick on halfway was played into the area and with Noon coming off his line to claim the ball the striker got there first and his header found the net to make it 2-1. Ashby responded well to going behind and just four minutes later the match was all square again when Johnno Smith launched one of his trademark throw-ins into the area which Dudley struggled to deal with and despite a header out of the area the ball only made it to the edge of the area where Muir was waiting and his shot beat the keeper. Ashby could have regained the lead with just four minutes of the first half remaining when they were awarded a free kick just outside the area but the keeper got a good hand to the shot from Jamie Yeomans and he turned the ball round the post and the teams went in at the break all square at 2-2 after an entertaining first half. The second half started with Dudley having the slight edge and they were passing the ball about well as they looked to create chances and in the 57th minute they were denied a third goal after a good save from Noon from close range and some desperate last ditch defending saw Ashby clear their lines. That seemed to spark Ashby into life and they started to get the ball on the ground and play some good passing football and just after the hour mark they retook the lead at 3-2 when Noon had the ball which he launched down field which beat everyone including the Dudley defence and Muir ran onto the loose ball and after taking his time over the shot he smashed the ball past the keeper for his second goal of the match. It got better for Ashby as the match entered the final quarter when they opened up an important two goal cushion with what was easily the best goal of the match. It came from another long ball forward from the defence which was chased down by Barker on the right wing and with the keeper rushing off his line he managed to clear the ball but only to Muir who from 40 yards out sent a glorious lob towards goal and with the keeper struggling to get back the ball dipped under the cross bar and into the net to complete a stunning hat-trick. Dudley then tried to get back into the match but Ashby stood firm for the majority of the final twenty minutes and blocked anything that was thrown at them but as the match neared a conclusion the home side found a late lifeline with a third goal. It came two minutes into stoppage time when the ball was played across the area and the player at the back post applied the finish to set up a tense finale. After the goal there were still two minutes of stoppage time for Ashby to see out and with the home side looking for the equaliser Ashby managed to break forward and they should have sealed the victory in the 93rd minute when the ball was played low into the area for substitute Luke Thorogood with the shot going agonisingly wide of the near post but the referee soon blew the final whistle to end a thrilling cup-tie and Ashby had emerged victorious.

IN OPPOSITION TODAY RACING CLUB WARWICK Racing Club Warwick were formed in 1919 under the name of Saltisford Rovers and played in various local leagues including the Warwick League, Leamington & District League and the Warwickshire Combination until 1967. During this period the club won a number of honours, including the Birmingham Alliance Senior Cup when they defeated Birmingham City in the final at St Andrews. In 1967 the club joined the West Midlands (Regional) League. Three years later they changed to their current name (which came from the fact that their ground is by Warwick Racecourse) and soon afterwards switched to the Midland Football Combination, where they were champions in 1988 and runners-up in 1989. After the latter honour they gained promotion to the Southern League where they remained until 2003 when they finished bottom of the Western Division and dropped into the Midland Football Alliance. They remained in the Midland Football Alliance until the end of the 2008/2009 season, when they were relegated to the Midland Football Combination Premier Division which is now the Midland Football League Division One.

ASHBY IVANHOE FC CLUB HISTORY Ashby Ivanhoe Football Club was founded in 1948 and play their home matches at the NFU Sports Ground, Lower Packington Road, Ashby de la Zouch in Leicestershire. This is the clubs new home from the beginning of the 2012/2013 season. Since being founded in 1948 up until the end of the 2011/2012 season the clubs previous home was at Hood Park also in Ashby de la Zouch. The club currently consists of four adult teams and a youth team. The first team play in the East Midlands Counties League, with the Reserves in the Leicestershire Senior League Premier Division. In the 2008/2009 season the club formed a Youth Team (Under 18’s) side who play in the Leicestershire Midweek Floodlit Youth League on Wednesday nights. A Sunday team was re-introduced for the 2012/2013 season and they play in the Burton Sunday League Division Three. For 2015/2016 a third Saturday side has been formed who will play in the North Leicestershire Football League Division One. The club also has 11 junior sides ranging from Under 9’s through to Under 17’s who play in the Burton Junior Football League, Tamworth Junior Football League and the Derby City League. The junior section came after the club merged with the David Hunt Soccer School at the beginning of the 2009-2010 season. In February 2004, Ashby Ivanhoe became an FA Charter Standard football club. The club is very ambitious and has plans to progress further up the league pyramid system. The club is run by an experienced management team and enjoys the support of some very prestigious commercial partners. Ashby Ivanhoe had one of their most successful seasons in 2010/11 as they completed a league and cup double by winning the Leicestershire Senior League by nine points and also lifted the Coalville Charity Cup for the very first time after producing a superb second half comeback to beat Bardon Hill 3-2 in the final. They have also reached successive Leicestershire Senior Cup finals in 2011/2012 and 2012/2013 but had to settle for runners-up on both occasions losing 3-1, firstly to Ibstock United and then Aylestone Park. The 2013/2014 season saw the first team achieve a long-term ambition as they won promotion into the Step 6 East Midlands Counties League for the 2014/2015 season after finishing third place in the Leicestershire Senior League. It was a close title race with the top three all finishing level on points with Ashby third on goal difference. The Reserves were also promoted to the Leicestershire Senior League Division One. 2014/2015 saw Ashby compete at Step 6 of the non-league pyramid for the first time and they had a very good season and secured a top six finish in the East Midlands Counties League which featured victories against all of the sides above them. The Reserve side were involved in a tight title race and it went down to a last day decider against Lutterworth Athletic Reserves but despite the result going against them on the day they were still promoted for the second season in succession and will play at Step 7 in the Leicestershire Senior League Premier Division for 2015/2016.
