Ahead of today’s game we will be observing a minutes silence in memory of the service men and women that lost their lives fighting in the World Wars. Please observe the minutes silence when the referee blows his whistle. The club will also be present at the towns Remembrance Day parade and will be laying a wreath at the memorial at 11.00am. If you would like to join the parade then please be outside St Helens Church from 10.00am. With the first team and reserves both playing away last Saturday it gave me an opportunity to stay at the ground and watch our Development Team for the first time this season as they were playing Belton Villa in the County Cup. Whilst the score ended 2-1 to the visitors, our players can take a lot of positives from the game. The purpose of the development team was to provide an opportunity for younger players at the club to experience their first taste of senior football on a Saturday afternoon and with a hope that they would push on throughout the season and compete for places in the reserves and first team. The team also fields some more experienced senior players whose role is to mentor the youth players on the field and help further their development as a player at this club. The league position is the least important part of this team as it is more about retaining and providing opportunities for players that have been at the club for a number of years, both Youth and senior players. Today we welcome Keith Murdoch, Chief Executive of Leicestershire County FA, to the NFU and Keith is here to present the club with their FA Charter Standard Community Award and as I mentioned in my last notes, the award puts in the top 10% of clubs in the UK that have achieved this award. There are three levels of FA Charter Standard Awards for clubs to recognise the different standards. The entry level is an ‘FA Charter Standard Club’, the next level is an ‘FA Charter Standard Development Club’ and the most advanced ‘FA Charter Standard Community Club’. Each advanced level requires additional criteria to be met. The club is now working on its 5 year plan which covers many new and exciting opportunities to grow even further with the provision of Girls, Ladies and Disability football being introduced during the next 5 years.
CAN YOU HELP TO SPONSOR A SEAT IN OUR NEW STAND? I would like to call on all spectators and ask if you are able to Sponsor a Seat in our New Stand. As some of you will know we have been working hard to get the funding and planning in place for the new stand that is featured in this programme. We now have all things in place and are looking to have the stand in place by Christmas. However, we need to raise as much money as we can towards the overall cost of £21000 and one way you can help is to Sponsor a Seat. We are looking at placing the order before the end of October and have extended the offer of 3 seasons FREE ENTRY until 30th Nov if you reserve and pay for your seat before then – if you would like to talk to me or reserve your seat then let me know. The seats are available to anyone in the Community, friends and family too so spread the word and be part of history. All that remains is to thank you for your continued support and to wish our players well today and hope we all are in for a good game. Stuart Bonser Club Chairman Ps – if you are visiting the ground by car please DO NOT OBSTRUCT the junction to Cambrian Way by parking on the grass/path verge as this is both dangerous and you could get a fixed penalty notice from the Council and or Police.

FIRST TEAM UPDATE Good afternoon and welcome to the home of Ashby Ivanhoe FC. May I extend a very warm welcome on behalf of the Club to everyone attending today’s match and in particular the players, officials and supporters of our opponents Blaby & Whetstone Athletic. Halloween came a week early at the NFU as our last home game a fortnight ago against Graham Street Prims saw us turn in a second half “performance” that can only be described as a nightmare. Although we went in at the interval one nil up, we had by no means played with any fluidity, however we had competed and generally kept our defensive shape. Any intensity we had shown in the first half completely vanished in the second half and for whatever reason we couldn’t lift ourselves and conceded three very poor goals. Good teams control the tempo of a game and choose the right times to back off opponents but you can’t just turn work rate both individually and collectively on and off as there is opposition who will take advantage. As a group, and I include the management team, we let ourselves down badly, the only pleasing aspect of the day was it did noticeably hurt everyone concerned and the reaction since has been one of steely determination to put things right. Last Saturday we travelled to Holwell Sports with the challenge of improving in two key areas, namely maintaining possession and pressing the opposition in order to win the ball back quickly. The players applied themselves to the letter and the victory could have been more comprehensive if we had been a touch more clinical in front of goal. Away from home we have been solid defensively having conceded just one goal in the 7 games so far. With far sterner tests to come we need to maintain and further improve in this area. With respect to today’s game we fully expect an extremely tough game as our opponents were one of the front runners last season and have won their last two games in the League. Hopefully we can push on from last Saturday’s performance and provide an entertaining display with the desired outcome. Without repeating myself again, to date results have been better than performances which will only take us so far but not ultimately to where we want to be. We are a work in progress and progress we will. Thank you for your support and enjoy the game. Miles Warriner First Team Management Team

MATCH ACTION VS GRAHAM STREET PRIMS ASHBY IVANHOE 1-3 GRAHAM STREET PRIMS EAST MIDLANDS COUNTIES FOOTBALL LEAGUE SATURDAY 24TH OCTOBER 2015
Ashby Ivanhoe slipped to a second successive home league defeat as a below par performance was duly punished by visitors Graham Street Prims who came from behind to score three goals in the final twenty minutes to take the three points back to Derbyshire. The match was far from a classic played in challenging conditions but after a poor opening 20 minutes it was Ashby who took the lead midway through the first half when they were awarded a penalty and upstepped leading scorer Danny Quinn to send the keeper the wrong way and open the scoring. The visitors quickly had a chance to draw level just three minutes after the Ashby goal but after a cross into the area came back out to the player on the edge of the area the shot was just wide of the post and Ashby were fortunate to maintain their slender lead when just before the break a long range shot wasn’t held by keeper Chris Hodge with the ball just going the wrong side of the post leaving the score 1-0 at the break. Ashby had the first chance of the second half when Evan Cawley went past a couple of defenders before seeing his shot deflected over the bar and from then on it went downhill for the home side as they struggled to create chances with the Prims keeper hardly having a save to make and on 72 minutes the visitors drew level when a shot from distance took a deflection which saw the ball past Hodge and into the net for 1-1. It didn’t take long before the visitors edged in front when just three minutes after their first a harmless looking corner saw the Ashby keeper go up claim the ball but with the conditions making the ball difficult to handle it was spilled into the net giving Prims a 2-1 lead. Ashby then made changes as they looked to salvage something from the match and with two minutes remaining substitute Scott Reynolds got onto the end of a cross only to see his shot across goal go wide of the far post. Then the visitors attacked and wrapped up the three points when the ball was threaded through the defence and the player ran onto the ball before slotting beyond Hodge to seal a deserved 3-1 victory and Ashby will need to perform much better if they are to hold onto their top spot having seen their lead reduced to six points. MATCH ACTION VS HOLWELL SPORTS HOLWELL SPORTS 0-3 ASHBY IVANHOE EAST MIDLANDS COUNTIES FOOTBALL LEAGUE SATURDAY 31ST OCTOBER 2015
Ashby Ivanhoe bounced back from a home defeat the previous week for the second away game running as they defeated an out of form Holwell Sports 3-0. Sam Johnson scored the first goal inside the final ten minutes of a poor first half before Danny Quinn and substitute Antonio Williams sealed the three points in a one sided second half. The first half an hour of the match saw very little in the way of goal-scoring chances with the majority of play in the middle of the park and any balls into the opposition areas being easily dealt with and it took until the 35th minute for the first real chance of the match when Scott Cordy struck a powerful left footed effort towards the far corner and with the keeper beaten the ball crashed against the outside of the post and away from goal. That chance sprung the game into life and just three minutes later Ashby opened the scoring. The goal came from a half clearance by the Holwell defence which only made it to the edge of the area and captain Sam Johnson produced a superb finish by striking a low shot though a crowded penalty area and into the bottom corner to give Ashby a narrow lead at the break. The first ten minutes of the second half was played in a similar pattern to the first before the chances starting flowing for Ashby around the hour mark with leading scorer Danny Quinn having three chances in quick succession and with the third he doubled the away sides lead. The first two chances were both off target with the first going wide of the far post and the second clearing the crossbar but the third was a well taken goal when a low cross into the area found Quinn and with his back to goal he back-heeled the ball goalwards which found the net just inside the post. Inside the final twenty minutes Ashby had a great chance to increase their lead following some fine passing football which resulted in the ball falling to Quinn but his shot was saved by the Holwell keeper’s foot. With ten minutes remaining substitute Chris Saunders had Ashby’s next opportunity at goal but his shot was just wide of the near post and shortly after defender Evan Cawley almost made it 3-0 when his well struck shot went under the keeper but before it crossed the line a defender managed to clear to safety. The third and final goal of the game came in the 90th minute when Saunders and another substitute Antonio Williams combined for the latter to score his first goal. The ball was slotted through the defence by Saunders and with the keeper rushing off his line Williams chased the ball down before taking it past the keeper and then slotting into an empty net to complete the scoring. The result saw the lead at the top of the table increase to eight points with two home matches next up. IN OPPOSITION TODAY BLABY & WHETSTONE ATHLETIC Whetstone Athletic FC was founded in 1928 playing in the Leicester City League until 1967 when they were elected to Division One of the Leicestershire Senior league. The Club achieved promotion as runners-up in 1971 & 1975, but unfortunately relegation followed on both occasions. The club moved from the Warwick Road Recreation Ground in 1993 to maintain their Senior League status with that saw a name change to Blaby and Whetstone Athletic FC. The club integrating with the boys club structure, who were running sides from U8 to U17, an Old Boys side on Sundays and a midweek floodlit U18 side. Upgrading of the facilities took place, including, dugouts, concrete hard standing and post rails quickly turned the boys club ground up to the required standards and with a combined effort from the boys club, the social club and the whole football section of the club raised sufficient funds with the aid of a football grant to have the lights erected to ensure promotion could take place. This was topped off with promotion to the Premier League as runners up in 2000. Premiership status was secured in the first year and the following year saw a 6th place finish, also seeing the side through to its first Senior Cup semi-final, although it was 2-1 loss to Loughborough Dynamo. Things were looking up at the club and a great run in the FA Vase seeing us through to the third round proper but were defeated by Studley away. Our first taste of success at the new ground came in 2004/05 with a Battle of Britain win defeating Thurnby Rangers in the final. The side continued to keep their head above water but a change was needed and the committee decided that it was time to nurture and retain the youth already playing at the club at U15, U16 &Youth levels. For too long we had been a breeding ground for other clubs to prise away our players. The 07/08 season saw the team led by Andy Purple; with the influx of the younger players mixed with experience saw the Club gain two cups, the Jelson Homes Senior Cup and the Leicestershire Senior League Cup, both firsts for the Club. The reserves also finished runners up in the Combination League Division One, so a really good year. It was hoped to be topped off with promotion to the new East Midlands Counties League but we missed out on goal difference in the final game of the season as Ibstock gained a point at Saffron to take the last promotion spot. The following year we missed out on promotion finishing runners up in the league to Anstey Nomads. Unfortunately Andy did not continue in the manager’s role for 09/10 season and the job was given to Lee Harriman. Hopes were high as there was a lot of pedigree with his management career. Despite a run in the Vase beating Mier KA and Malvern Town, we were beaten 1-0 by Boldmere St Michaels, the league form began to suffer and we were just holding on to 3rd place but defeat in the last game again saw us miss out on promotion again, as Thurmaston Town league winners ground was not to standard, runners up Leicester Constabulary were folding and Thurnby Nivarna were promoted in third place. Further ground improvements meant that at the time we were the only team to have the next level facilities. Lee continued in the 2010/11 season as manager and although he strengthened the squad it again was to be struggle in a very competitive league. Through a difficult season the team managed 3rd place and with the top 2 not having the ground requirements Blaby finally gained promotion. Season 2011/12 saw a new manager, Steve Orme, bringing in his new management team and some new players and some players returning to the club that had left in previous seasons. A first season in the EMCFL saw us finish a reasonable 12th place, although with a bit more consistency and scoring a few more goals we may have finished higher.

vs Blaby & Whetstone Athletic | Saturday 7th November 2015 | www.ashbyivanhoefc.com
IN OPPOSITION TODAY Season 2012 / 2013, Steve continued at the helm and with some new signings hopes were high for a top 6 spot.2012 -2013 also saw the club enter the FA Cup for the first time. A fine away win at Spalding 2-1 was followed by a home win against Heanor. Eastwood were the next opponents and a creditable 1-1 draw away was followed by an exit in the replay at home 3-1. An early exit at home to Sleaford in the FA Vase meant the league work could now begin. It looked at one point as 3rd spot was within the teams capabilities but despite 2 semi final defeats, in the FA Senior Cup ( by default) and the League Cup, followed by the resignations of the Assistant Manager and the Coach, the team finished in 6th spot. The jewel in the crown for season 2012/13 was our reserve side with a fitting swan song to our long standing managers and stalwarts of the club Mitchell Warner and Neil Kitchen winning the league in their last season in charge. Season 2012/13 was also the last season for secretary, Sue Warner, after 15 years at the club has decided to step down. Season, 2013/14, saw Blaby & Whetstone achieve their most successful season to date. Under the leadership of Steve Orme, the first team achieved their highest league position in the EMCL, finishing fourth in the league. A great run in the FA Cup saw the club reach the second preliminary round for the first time. The season finale saw the club play at the home of Leicester City Football Club to clinch the Westerby Cup for the first time in our history. The first team success rubbed off on the reserve team and saw them clinch the Leicestershire Senior League Division One title under the leadership of Gaz Allen. Season 2014/2015 saw Blaby off to a good start in the League but could not re-produce the form in the Westerby Cup and went out to St Andrews in round 1. Winning the Westerby Cup last season earned the right to face a Leicester City X1 at Holmes Park and after putting in a good performance, they finally went down 4-2. The FA Cup run was again at the fore and 3 wins should have been 4 at home to a lacklustre Stourbridge side, who squeezed a draw and comfortably won the home replay 4-1. Having seen off Radford in the FA Vase, Borrowash were the visitors and in a very winnable game Blaby threw a 1 -0 lead away going down 2-1. An early finish in the League Cup meant Blaby were clear to concentrate on the League and were top some 4 points clear but a spell in the New Year saw that lead crumble away and had to gain points in the last few games to hold on to 5th spot. Disappointment overall but Steve Orme continues in charge this season and with some new signings and nearly all of last season’s squad is confident Blaby will be up there again. The reserves in the Leicestershire Senior League Premier for the first time looked to be heading for a top 3 finish but fell short and were hit with a 3 point deduction for not for filling a fixture which knocked them down to 5th spot. A good season and Gaz and Rob will be hoping to build on that for the new season.

ASHBY IVANHOE FC CLUB HISTORY Ashby Ivanhoe Football Club was founded in 1948 and play their home matches at the NFU Sports Ground, Lower Packington Road, Ashby de la Zouch in Leicestershire. This is the clubs new home from the beginning of the 2012/2013 season. Since being founded in 1948 up until the end of the 2011/2012 season the clubs previous home was at Hood Park also in Ashby de la Zouch. The club currently consists of four adult teams and a youth team. The first team play in the East Midlands Counties League, with the Reserves in the Leicestershire Senior League Premier Division. In the 2008/2009 season the club formed a Youth Team (Under 18’s) side who play in the Leicestershire Midweek Floodlit Youth League on Wednesday nights. A Sunday team was re-introduced for the 2012/2013 season and they play in the Burton Sunday League Division Three. For 2015/2016 a third Saturday side has been formed who will play in the North Leicestershire Football League Division One. The club also has 11 junior sides ranging from Under 9’s through to Under 17’s who play in the Burton Junior Football League, Tamworth Junior Football League and the Derby City League. The junior section came after the club merged with the David Hunt Soccer School at the beginning of the 2009-2010 season. In February 2004, Ashby Ivanhoe became an FA Charter Standard football club. The club is very ambitious and has plans to progress further up the league pyramid system. The club is run by an experienced management team and enjoys the support of some very prestigious commercial partners. Ashby Ivanhoe had one of their most successful seasons in 2010/11 as they completed a league and cup double by winning the Leicestershire Senior League by nine points and also lifted the Coalville Charity Cup for the very first time after producing a superb second half comeback to beat Bardon Hill 3-2 in the final. They have also reached successive Leicestershire Senior Cup finals in 2011/2012 and 2012/2013 but had to settle for runners-up on both occasions losing 3-1, firstly to Ibstock United and then Aylestone Park. The 2013/2014 season saw the first team achieve a long-term ambition as they won promotion into the Step 6 East Midlands Counties League for the 2014/2015 season after finishing third place in the Leicestershire Senior League. It was a close title race with the top three all finishing level on points with Ashby third on goal difference. The Reserves were also promoted to the Leicestershire Senior League Division One. 2014/2015 saw Ashby compete at Step 6 of the non-league pyramid for the first time and they had a very good season and secured a top six finish in the East Midlands Counties League which featured victories against all of the sides above them. The Reserve side were involved in a tight title race and it went down to a last day decider against Lutterworth Athletic Reserves but despite the result going against them on the day they were still promoted for the second season in succession and will play at Step 7 in the Leicestershire Senior League Premier Division for 2015/2016.
