CHAIRMANS WELCOME Good afternoon and welcome to today’s match against our visitors Holwell Sports FC and may I extend a warm welcome to the players, officials and spectators of Holwell Sports FC and hope that we all enjoy a good match. These notes were unfortunately written ahead of Tuesdays game against Radcliffe Olympic so very little to report on that game. This game today is our last first team home game for 3 weeks until we play our final home game against South Normanton on Saturday 29th April. I will be asking various people to write the seasons review in that programme and would love to have as many spectators contribute to that programme so if you have your seasons highs and want to share a few words in the programme then do let me know or Matthew Lester. The reserves and Under 18’s still have fixtures to play at home in the coming weeks so be sure to keep up with your fantastic support for these teams too. If you missed the opportunity to read the fantastic magazine that Matthew Lester put together following the FA CUP run this Season then visit the website or facebook and you can view it online. It really was an amazing piece of work that Matthew put together and I am sure that you will be equally impressed. Well done Matthew. A note of the League Cup final, we are looking to take a bus for the trip to the game and would love to see as many spectators follow the team as possible and if you are interested in coming along on the bus then do let me know asap. Over the coming weeks we have other teams represented in Semi Finals and Finals and please keep your eyes peeled on the website and Social Media pages for up to date information on these fixtures. All that remains is to wish the team well today and hope that we all enjoy a good afternoon of football. Stuart Bonser Club Chairman Ps – if you are visiting the ground by car please DO NOT OBSTRUCT the junction to Cambrian Way by parking on the grass/path verge as this is both dangerous and you could get a fixed penalty notice from the Council and or Police. vs Holwell Sports | Saturday 8th April 2017 | www.ashbyivanhoefc.com

FIRST TEAM UPDATE Managers Talk Good Afternoon and welcome to the NFU Sports Ground for this afternoon’s league game against Holwell Sports FC. We would like to welcome all those connected with Holwell and hope you have a safe journey home. Last Saturday saw us play Belper United going down 2-1. It was the worst games and performances I have witnessed from a team in my 12 years of management and have told the players that! We dropped our standards and quality which was embarrassing. Since me and Lee took over back in November we have installed a type of brand of play and commitment we want in a performance, but what we witnessed last Saturday was totally unacceptable. We need to start putting in better and good performances and picking up as many points as we can. Winning games of football breeds confidence in the team and we need to keep the momentum going into the final few weeks of the season to keep us in and around the top half if possible and to go into the cup final full of confidence. Our league positions aim is still a top 6 position come end of April but after Saturday we need to win the last 7 out of 8 games if we want that, which is doable. Today’s game will be a decent test of us as Holwell have been playing well and are a decent side, so if we are to try to reach that top ten spot ourselves we need to win this game. We now have a few away games coming up on the trot and would be nice to see as many supporters follow us as possible. To our supporters, it has been very pleasing to see more of you attend the recent home matches, our attendance has increased by 30 % your support has been great and we would like to say thank you - this really helps the lads. Enjoy the game. Steve Titterton & Lee Attenborough First Team Management FIRST TEAM UPDATE SPONSORED BY

EAST MIDLANDS COUNTIES FOOTBALL LEAGUE SATURDAY 1ST APRIL 2017 _______________________________________________________________________________________ ASHBY IVANHOE LINE-UP: Thomas Oliver, Jake Conkay, George Wesley, Conor Bennett, Sam Johnson William Rooke, Luke Thorogood, Ryan Pearce, Danny Quinn, Royce Turville, Elliott Bott SUBSTITUTES USED: Angus Blair-Park, Aaron Windram GOALS SCORED: Jake Conkay (41) ATTENDANCE: 53 _______________________________________________________________________________________ Ashby Ivanhoe saw their inconsistent form continue as they were beaten 2-1 at home by an in-form Belper United side. Belper took the lead six minutes before half time before Ashby responded immediately when a cross from Jake Conkay went straight over the keeper and into the net. The second half was scrappy with the visitors taking all three points five minutes from time with a close range finish. It was Ashby who made the better start to the match and they had a chance to open the scoring with just three minutes on the clock when a free kick from just outside the area was passed by Luke Thorogood for Danny Quinn to have an effort at goal and he was unlucky to see the shot strike the foot of the post and behind. On 11 minutes another chance came Ashby’s way when a shot at goal from Sam Johnson produced a fine save from the Belper keeper, diving down to his right to turn the ball past the post. Just before the half hour mark Ashby had their best chance of the match so far when a good passing move saw the ball find substitute Aaron Windram but with the covering defender putting him under pressure his shot was blazed over the bar. Belper than had a chance of their own when the ball was struck forward and with the ball finding the player beyond the last defender he brought the ball down before seeing his shot saved by the keeper. The visitors then took the lead on 39 minutes when they were awarded a free kick close to the by-line and the ball was played deep into the area and found the net just inside the far post. Ashby did respond quickly albeit in fortunate circumstances when from the right touch line Jake Conkay sent a cross into the area which found its way over the keeper and into the back of the net leaving the match all square at the break. Midway through the second half Ashby had a great chance to take the lead when Windram chased the ball down the right flank before sending a cross deep into the area and at the back post George Wesley came running in to send a powerful header at goal but the Belper keeper produced a fine save from close range to keep the scores level It was the visitors who took all three points when with just five minutes remaining a ball to the back post resulted in a blocked shot before the loose ball was turned home from close range to complete a 2-1 victory to leave Ashby firmly sat in mid-table with just eight matches remaining.

ASHBY IVANHOE FC SUPPORTERS CLUB THE OPPOSITION A very warm welcome to everyone here at the NFU Sports Ground for this afternoon’s East Midlands STAPENHILL Counties League match against Holwell Sports. They were formed in 1947 and ten years after formation they joined the Leicestershire Senior
League Division Two and found immediate success, gaining promotion in their debut season and winning the Division One championship in the following two seasons. They remained in that from a single season (1971/1972) in Division Two, winning the top flight, now the A very disappointingdivision, result apart last Saturday losing 2-1 at home to Belper United. Steve Titterton described renamed the Premier Division, twice more – 1986/1987 and 1988/1989.

They then joined the Midland Combination Premier Division, staying there for five seasons until they became a founding me all those onlywhere agreethey withremained him!!!!!!!! member of thepresent Midlandcan Alliance until resigning from the league in January 2002. Later that year they joined the Leicestershire Senior League and were promoted as runners-up into the Premier Division. In the 2007/2008 season, they were members of the Midland Football Alliance, but after a fire ravaged their home stadium the club was forced to us close down. The club against reformedHolwell in 2009Sports and rejoined thesure Leicestershire League andmatch gained Today's match sees in league action and I'm it will be Senior another tough promotion to the EMCL in the 2012/2013 season.

IN OPPOSITION TODAY HOLWELL SPORTS Holwell Sports started life as Holwell Ironworks Football Team in 1902. The ground at Asfordby Hill is where most workers employed at the Holwell Iron Works lived and where the working men’s club was set up for social and fitness activities. The unique club emblem of the Stanton Horse with an arrow through its chest originates from the crest of the Crompton’s, a Derbyshire family who’s involvement with the original Stanton Ironworks group dates from 1855, the group lasting for more than 80 years. The crest symbolises the death of horsepower and the emergence of electricity power generation. When the works needed to meet market demand in the 1870’s it was decided to work through the night but the company found it impossible to provide adequate lighting using portable lamps or gas lighting. Crompton had read of the development of the electric arc light and bought some French machinery and lamps, thereby transforming the group’s output after installation in the works. Crompton went on to design a new type of generator and began manufacturing electrical plant on his own as Crompton and Crompton, much later to become Brooke Crompton Parkinson in the 1960’s and part of the Brush and later Hawker Siddeley engineering groups of the eighties. There are, to this day, Brooke Crompton Parkinson motors driving industrial machines. Holwell’s most famous son was Dixie McNeil (born 16 January 1947 in Melton Mowbray) who famously played as a striker. As a schoolboy, McNeil signed for his local club Leicester City FC after playing for Holwell Works. However he did not fit into the First Division side's plans and was released. He eventually made his football league debut for Exeter City FC in the 1966-67 season against Wrexham, a club he would later play for and manage. Dixie was a nickname to savour, associating him with the country’s most famous footballer of his day, Dixie Dean, who set a record when he smashed 60 league goals for Everton in the 1927/28 season. In 1988 the Holwell Works closed and the club’s name was changed to Holwell Sports Football club. In 2007 Holwell approached Corus who own the waste land around the facility and secured a 30 year lease on part of this ground to generate a new training area, at the rear of the main pitch on Welby Road, this is still an ongoing development. In 2008/2009 Holwell gained promotion to FA level 6 on the national football league pyramid, one of the first clubs in the EMCL league where we compete against teams from Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire as well as teams from Leicestershire. In this first season Holwell finished a respectable seventh. Our reserves continue to play in the Leicestershire Combination League, and we have a newly formed development squad playing in the North Leicestershire League. Holwell had their best ever run in the FA Cup last season getting as far as the 3rd round taking Bedworth United to a replay and extra time. 24

ASHBY IVANHOE FC CLUB HISTORY Ashby Ivanhoe Football Club was founded in 1948 and play their home matches at the NFU Sports Ground, Lower Packington Road, Ashby de la Zouch in Leicestershire. This is the clubs new home from the beginning of the 2012/2013 season. Since being founded in 1948 up until the end of the 2011/2012 season the clubs previous home was at Hood Park also in Ashby de la Zouch. The club currently consists of four adult teams and a youth team. The first team play in the East Midlands Counties League, with the Reserves in the Leicestershire Senior League Premier Division. In the 2008/2009 season the club formed a Youth Team (Under 18’s) side who play in the Leicestershire Midweek Floodlit Youth League on Wednesday nights. A Sunday team was re-introduced for the 2012/2013 season and they play in the Burton Sunday League Division Three. For 2015/2016 a third Saturday side has been formed who will play in the North Leicestershire Football League Division One. The club also has 11 junior sides ranging from Under 9’s through to Under 17’s who play in the Burton Junior Football League, Tamworth Junior Football League and the Derby City League. The junior section came after the club merged with the David Hunt Soccer School at the beginning of the 2009-2010 season. In February 2004, Ashby Ivanhoe became an FA Charter Standard football club. The club is very ambitious and has plans to progress further up the league pyramid system. The club is run by an experienced management team and enjoys the support of some very prestigious commercial partners. Ashby Ivanhoe had one of their most successful seasons in 2010/11 as they completed a league and cup double by winning the Leicestershire Senior League by nine points and also lifted the Coalville Charity Cup for the very first time after producing a superb second half comeback to beat Bardon Hill 3-2 in the final. They have also reached successive Leicestershire Senior Cup finals in 2011/2012 and 2012/2013 but had to settle for runners-up on both occasions losing 3-1, firstly to Ibstock United and then Aylestone Park. The 2013/2014 season saw the first team achieve a long-term ambition as they won promotion into the Step 6 East Midlands Counties League for the 2014/2015 season after finishing third place in the Leicestershire Senior League. It was a close title race with the top three all finishing level on points with Ashby third on goal difference. The Reserves were also promoted to the Leicestershire Senior League Division One. 2014/2015 saw Ashby compete at Step 6 of the non-league pyramid for the first time and they had a very good season and secured a top six finish in the East Midlands Counties League which featured victories against all of the sides above them. The Reserve side were involved in a tight title race and it went down to a last day decider against Lutterworth Athletic Reserves but despite the result going against them on the day they were still promoted for the second season in succession and will play at Step 7 in the Leicestershire Senior League Premier Division for 2015/2016.
