As you will see there has been, yet again, a lot of hard work done around the ground and on the pitch and this is testament to the desire of many at this club to move forward. The work has been relentless since the season ended with the new stand, entrance, hard standing etc.. My sincere thanks go to Mark Pepper, Darren Wearmouth, Mick Buckley, Dave Buckley, John Willars, Doug Kendrick, David Morris, and Charlie Tissington as well as some players, Josh Pepper, Robbie Avins, Jake Conkay and the First Team Gaffer, Tony Hemmings who all rolled their sleeves up and came up trumps again for the club. Additionally we have now finalised quotes for the new floodlights and seated accommodation which we hope will be in place before Christmas. The cost of new floodlights and seated accommodation will be in excess of £90,000 and we hope to secure maximum funding through the stadia improvement fund and of course we will keep you updated of our progress. On the field it has been pleasing to see the majority of last season’s squads have returned along with some new faces that will add to the team. The football management team welcomes a new coach, Yogi Desai, who is a passionate coach and who wants to improve players individually and collectively and the feedback from players has been really positive. Welcome Yogi. The reserve team management remains the same with Craig and Paul and joining them this season is Andy Parry. The Under 18's management team remains the same with Alex and Luke. This consistency can only spell good things for the club and I am sure that each of the respective management team will be working as hard as they did last season to continue with the progress they made. The junior section continues to grow at the club and this season we will have increased numbers by over 20% again with over 130 junior players now registered with the club. This gives us teams from Under 9's through to the Seniors and our philosophy as a club is getting stronger each year as the youngsters now have a structured coaching programme with natural progression into the Senior squads, evidence of which will be seen today in the reserves and first team. This philosophy is vital to the future of the club and we have worked hard to get the message across that we are a "club". I would like to express my gratitude and thanks to all of our sponsors at the club who have continued to support us again this season. The support you provide us is vital to the sustainability of the club. We welcome some of the sponsors to today’s game, Stacy Corcoran from Vision Express and Peter Whitehead from John German, who have kindly sponsored our new terrace. Finally, I would like to thank Matthew Lester, our matchday programme and website editor for continuing to blow us away with his hard work in putting this programme together. Great job Matthew. Good luck to Tony and the team today. Stuart Bonser - Club Chairman FRONT COVER IMAGES BY: James Pawlowski, Simon Quinton & Peter Scumaci

FIRST TEAM UPDATE A wander into history making is how I describe our forthcoming campaign, unknown territory, the first time Ashby Ivanhoe FC have played at step 6. Last season was filled with a lot of trials and tribulations; emotions were high at times with elation and rock bottom through disappointment, notably after our loss at Melton. However, the players showed great RESILIENCE in dealing with disappointment and continued to work towards our GOAL that was promotion. It was an incredible end to our football season, something that I’ve never experienced in 27 years of being in the football fraternity; the top 3 teams in the league finishing on the same points separated only by goal difference. Moreover, many changes happened last season: I lost my assistant manager due to work commitments, and then I appointed a club scout and coach and after only 4 months he also moved on to pursue other avenues in football. Only Martin, who is now my assistant manager, and I remain at the club as a management team. For the last 6 weeks of last season, I had to manage match days and most training sessions on my own, which I found difficult, however, with the support of the Chairman, Charlie Tissington and some of the senior players, we were able to motivate the players and finish the season positively. In the close season I was able to appoint a coach called ‘YOGI’, who runs his own football academy in nearby Measham. He has a wealth of coaching experience, as he’s worked in academies and spent numerous hours working and watching professional coaches deliver coaching sessions tailored to team philosophy. Therefore, I believe we have acquired a great asset to the club. Responding to the Gaffer's comments, Yogi said; "I'm delighted to be on board with the club working with the 1st Team and relish the opportunity that the Chairman and the Gaffer have given me. We've got a great bunch of lads. I have every confidence that if we maintain the right attitude and embrace the ongoing focus on football development through dedication, commitment and hard work on the training ground, we will succeed together and pave the way forward. The campaign starts now and we need to hit the ground running on Saturday with a strong performance and a positive result." In turn, we have also appointed a match day First Aider, ‘Edward Kelly’, a young man that had to finish his football career early through a serious injury which is a shame, as he would have been playing at a high standard as he had the right temperament required to make it as a footballer. As he settles in to his role, he will on match days take on more responsibilities. Pre-season has gone well: the players have applied themselves well in training, with the majority of the players working to a common goal - WINNING FOOTBALL MATCHES, however, at last my avenues of acquiring players have widened, therefore making changes shouldn’t be as difficult as the previous season. Although our results during pre-season have been positive, my focus is Radford FC, who I know little about. I’m hoping that the players don’t let the occasion pass them by and that they play the football that I know they can. All in all I hope you all enjoy today’s game!!!! RESERVE TEAM UPDATE Well we’re back already after what seems to be a very short summer! After taking a personal break with a rather long holiday (or scouting trip to Portugal!) it is good to see that the club has continued to train throughout the summer, and from attending training it is pleasing to see that the majority of the players are looking in good shape for early August. I would like to take this opportunity to welcome Yogi to the club as head coach, I already see his efforts are paying off and his training methods look to be a breath of fresh air and a valuable asset to the club. As we all know by now, both the 1st team and the reserves finished in promotion positions last year and have indeed both moved up a level. This is fantastic news for the club as a whole and it is vital that the club continues this progress this season, as we did last. This of course, will not be easy after stepping up a level, but with the right commitment and attitude from the management and players, I feel anything is possible with the bunch of players we have assembled at the club. As a reserve side, we more than exceeded my expectation in terms of league position last year and performed 100% better than the previous year. With this sort of progress over only 12 months, and the development and progression of so many youth team members – I dare not to ‘tempt fate’ and commit to a target this year going into an unknown league but I would be right in saying that the future looks very bright! Myself, Foz and Paz (who has now officially joined us as part of managerial set up) now cannot wait to get started with the challenge that lies ahead this season. That’s it from me, so I’ll take this opportunity to wish Tony and the 1st team, and Alex and the youth team, all the very best for the upcoming season – after a 3rd place and 2 runners up positions last year let’s hope we can all go one step further this time. UNDER 18S UPDATE Under 18s Manager Notes Firstly may I extend a warm welcome to Radford FC & friends of the East Midlands Counties fraternity for what is a momentous occasion for our club. It’s taken a lot of hard work on & off the pitch to get to this moment today and I’m sure that everybody will agree that we deserve to be here. I don’t think I stand alone when I say what a great job our Chairman Stuart Bonser has done in ensuring the clubs ‘off the field’ achievements match what’s happening ‘on the field’. We now have a thriving junior section with fully qualified coaches, the Under 18’s development squad whose fruits of labour will be amongst those on show today and a now successful senior section that are now competing in the East Midlands Counties League. This is a tribute to everybody’s hard work over the past few seasons so here’s to pushing the boundaries further. As for the Youth Team, we have sadly seen the departure of the majority of players from last year’s successful season but it’s good to report that a lot of those have progressed into the senior teams now. We had our first friendly against Midland Combination outfit Loughborough Dynamo on Tuesday and played out an encouraging 0-0 draw with the new guys doing very well so we could be in for an interesting season. Well I better stop it there or Doug Kendrick will no doubt be cursing me by now. May I wish Tony and the boys all the best today and here’s hoping we can crown the day off by getting off to a winning start. Alex Roome Under 18s Manager

SUNDAY TEAM UPDATE Following last season’s credible 4th place finish the Sunday Team were able to celebrate promotion alongside the rest of the clubs senior teams after being constituted in the Burton Sunday League Division 2 for the 2014/2015 season. There have been many changes in personal since the end of last season as well. Former manager Shaun Poynton has stepped down into a part time playing role due to family commitments, and 5 players, including three that have been with the club since its formation in 2007 have sadly permanently or temporarily hung their boots up for reasons including relocation, personal or professional commitment and injury. With this and the loss of full back Dave Lord to a chronic case of shin splints until at least Christmas in mind, there has been a bit of a recruitment drive at the Sunday team this summer. Dean Reynolds has returned for his second managerial stint with the team after having to resign in 2012 due to work commitments, strikers Alex Bates and Patrick Conway are looking to cement places in the squad this pre-season, and across the midfield we’re pleased to welcome George Gadsby and winger Danny Hewitt who arrives from Springfield FC. Nathan Yeoman’s is another new player to have signed on the dotted line joining his brother Leon at the club and Nathan is adapt at playing full back or on the wing. We’ve had somewhat mixed fortunes in pre-season, our first game saw us draw at Division 4 champions Woodville Rangers Reserves, the home side boasting a bumper squad of around 17 while we were only just able to field 11. On top of this we lost Nathan Yeomans to a hamstring injury with 10 minutes remaining resulting in us finishing with ten men. 1-1 at full time with spirited performances in all areas of the pitch and Ben Earp picking up where he left off last season by scoring the only goal. A 2-1 defeat to Charnwood Sunday League Division One side AFC Sporting Charnwood at Hind Leys College followed this, Ben Earp again grabbing the goal in a worthwhile work out and a good settling in exercise for some of our new players. Last Sunday a healthy squad of 14 put Burton Sunday League Division One side Seal Inn to the sword 4-0 as the team looked like it was beginning to click, Marcus Fletcher opened the scoring with a neat side footed finish from just inside the area, Leon Yeomans doubled the lead after Richard Commons played him through for his second assist of the game. George Gadsby then got his first goal in a blue shirt as he was slightly lucky to see his close range shot saved, the rebound smacking him square in the face decking the forward and giving us a 3-0 lead. Danny Hewitt then scored the only goal of the second half as he latched on to Gadsby’s superb through ball and headed over Seal’s stopper. Details of our latest friendly against Ravenstone Reserves can be found on the club website and we welcome neighbours and rivals Donisthorpe FC to Hood Park tomorrow morning, kick off 10:30am. Our fixtures were released this week and first up we play hosts to Winshill Parish at Hood Park on August 24th before facing Alrewas Athletic FC at home the following week. We have drawn Woodville Rangers in the Presidents Cup and will face them twice in two weeks on the 7th and 14th of September, the cup game being at Hood Park on the 7th with the league fixture at Mount Pleasant Rec on the 14th. We’ve been lucky enough to receive a bye in the first round of the Junior Cup as we look to better last season’s Quarter Final appearance. Full details of the Sunday Team’s fixtures and results can be found on the club’s website. Stuart Mann Sunday Team Assistant Manager

DOWN MEMORY LANE WITH THE MOG Today is our first game at Step Six of the football pyramid, and I thought it would be interesting to reflect on our first game at Step Seven. After years of being told that “Ashby should have a Senior League team” we finally gained promotion to the Senior League after a nerve wracking end to the 2004/05 season in the North Leicestershire League and our first game of the season took place at Sileby Town on 20th August 05. Kenny Horn and Stan Ward were our management team and we were all a little nervous about whether we could make the step up to the higher level and when we went 2-0 down in the first half those fears seemed well founded. However we had some experienced players in the side with the likes of Rob “Bart” Bartholomew, Gez Eivors, and Gav Taylorson and in the second half we really took the game to Sileby. David “Didge” Gibson had very inconveniently arranged his wedding (the first one) for our opening day fixture, so many of our regulars were on duty there, as such we had many youngsters in the squad that day and ran Sileby ragged in the 2nd half. Rob Debney (what a talent he was) pulled a goal back and then got the equaliser with 10 minutes to go sparking wild celebrations from the travelling Shed Enders and the management! That showed we could certainly live at that level and the banter and the beers were flowing at Didge’s reception later that night. However the following Tuesday we came crashing back to earth when we were thumped 6-0 at Saffron Dynamo in The Beacon Bitter Cup. Our next game was at home to Bardon and we drew 3-3 in a thrilling game with goals from Rob Debney again, Chris Nettel (no really he has been playing THAT long) and our new signing Kevin Lock who would go on to score 31 goals in 30 games. We then went on a run of 6 consecutive wins to see us top the table so we really had arrived. It’s a really exciting day for everyone associated with Ashby Ivanhoe Football Club as we make another huge step forward in our progression as a club. Good luck to all of our teams this season and to Tony and all the first team lads let’s announce ourselves in our new league with a win today. Dave Morris Club President

THE OPPOSITION RADFORD FC Radford FC were founded in 1964 as Manlove & Alliots FC and played in the Nottinghamshire Sunday League. Manlove & Alliots were an engineering firm situated in Radford and after the firm transferred to Scotland in 1970/71, the club carried on under the name of Radford Olympic FC. In 1977 they became the first amateur side in Britain to be allowed to wear advertising on their shirts and BBC Television came along to their home ground on Melbourne Park and filmed one of their matches and interviewed officials for the evening programme “Nationwide. In 1978 we formed a ground development committee and decided to seek out a piece of ground preferably in the Radford area for development of our own ground. Radford Olympic transferred to Saturday Football and made progress up the leagues and in 1982/83 finished Champions of the East Midlands Regional League. In 1983/84, they won the Central Midlands League Senior Cup and in 1987 Radford Olympic were renamed Radford FC. At the end of 2002/03 they were promoted to the Supreme Division of the Central Midlands League and in their first season in the top flight they finished 11th. After holding their own during the seasons 2003/04 & 2004/05 in the top league of the Central Midlands League, the club delivered silverware in the 2005/06 season under the guidance of Julian Garmston and assistant Pete Kelley, winning the C.M.L Phoenix Trophies Floodlight Cup and equally impressive was the equal fifth place finish in the C.M.L Supreme Division which in an extremely tough league was an excellent achievement. In addition new floodlighting and 1st phase significant ground improvements were actioned with Notts County providing a team to officially turn on the lights in early 2006 and during season 2005/06 a seated stand was completed. The club joined the EMCL in 2008 and finished 14th in their first season. Since then the club has finished in the lower reaches of the league but as the club enters its 50th year in 2014 expectations are high for a much better season.
