CHAIRMANS WELCOME Good evening and welcome to you all for tonight’s game against Kimberley Miners Welfare and may I extend a warm welcome to all of the officials, players and spectators of Kimberley Miners Welfare and hope we are in for a good game. The side progressed through to the next round of the FA VASE on Saturday and we now have an away tie on Saturday 24th September. I have suggested to many that we take a coach for players and spectators and I provide further details below if this is of interest to you to come along and support the team. The Midweek Youth Team progressed through to the next round of the FA YOUTH CUP last week too and now have a home tie against Alfreton so please come along and show your support for the team too and well done to the players and Alex Roome for progressing further than they did last season and may it continue against Alfreton. Most of our junior teams kicked off their games last weekend and it was a fantastic spectacle for anyone walking through Hood Park or Western Park as we had 2 teams playing side by side on both parks. This is the effect that we are having within the town and it was a proud moment for me and all that are involved in the club and more teams were representing the club on Sunday too so if you are free to pop along on a Saturday morning or Sunday morning/afternoon to either Hood Park or Western Park you may just catch a glimpse of one of our junior teams in action. Hope you all enjoy the game Stuart Bonser Club Chairman

FIRST TEAM UPDATE Good evening and welcome to the home of Ashby Ivanhoe FC. May I extend a very warm welcome on behalf of the Club to everyone attending tonight’s match and in particular the players, officials and supporters of our opponents Kimberley Miners Welfare. The actual result in Saturday’s tortuous victory in the Vase against Pelsall was the only positive we can take out of that game. We now have an away tie at Stone and we will have to up our performance considerably if we are to progress any further. Having to make changes in the game to accommodate poor individual performances and a collective inability to impose ourselves on the opposition is unacceptable. Tonight’s game will provide a stern test against a Kimberley side who have improved out of all recognition from the one we played at the beginning of last season. Let’s “hope” we can build on the positive aspects of the opening games of the season and produce an entertaining performance with the desired outcome. Thank you for your support and enjoy the game. PELSALL VILLA

THE BUILDBASE FA VASE 1ST QUALIFYING ROUND SATURDAY 10TH SEPTEMBER 2016 _______________________________________________________________________________________ ASHBY IVANHOE LINE-UP: Chris Hodge, Chris Saunders, Evan Cawley, Luke Tozer, James Purslow, Sam Johnson, Luke Thorogood, Patrick Rowell, Dan Stevenson, Royce Turville, Josh Riley SUBSTITUTES USED: Ben Betteridge, Jack Ryder, Nick Sewell GOALS: Nick Sewell (75, 89) ATTENDANCE: 93 _______________________________________________________________________________________ Ashby Ivanhoe made it through to the 2nd Qualifying Round of the Buildbase FA Vase after two late goals from substitute Nick Sewell secured a hard fought 2-1 victory over Midland League Division One side Pelsall Villa. The home side started the match on the front foot and their first chance came with seven minutes on the clock when a cross from the left found Royce Turville in the area but his shot was saved by the Pelsall keeper. Pelsall had their first attempt at goal five minutes later when they were awarded a free kick 25 yards from goal and the shot was well struck and was heading goalwards before Ashby keeper Chris Hodge dived to his left to produce a good save and turn the ball behind. Ashby then went close when Dan Stevenson and Luke Thorogood combined to see the latter in on goal but the keeper quickly closed down the Ivanhoe player with the ball going behind for a corner. Chances were limited during the remainder of the first half until a minute before the break when Pelsall were awarded another free kick in a dangerous position just outside the area and the shot forced Hodge into a fine double save. The initial shot was saved well but with the ball going upwards he had to punch the ball clear before the striker could head home leaving the match goalless at the break. The start of the second half saw Pelsall have a couple of good opportunities to open the scoring when firstly after Ashby had failed to get a shot away in the visitors area they broke forward only to see Hodge deny them again with another good save. The second chance a minute later saw a player behind the Ivanhoe defence but the finish was poor and after beating Hodge the shot clipped the bar and over. Just after the hour mark Ashby went the closest of anyone to scoring when Stevenson received the ball inside the area and after turning he sent a low powerful effort goalwards only to see the ball crash against the foot of the post. With fifteen minutes remaining the deadlock was finally broken when substitute Nick Sewell received the ball from Luke Tozer and behind the Pelsall defence with just the keeper to beat he rounded the keeper and slotted the ball into the empty net. Inside the final ten minutes Pelsall were reduced to ten men following a second yellow card and then with three minutes remaining Ashby also found themselves down to ten with a straight red card after the ball struck the defenders arm on the way to goal which resulted in a penalty for Pelsall and Hodge was sent the wrong way to level the scores. With extra time looming Ashby responded immediately and with a minute of the 90 remaining a ball into the area took a slight deflection of a defender which saw the ball fall to Sewell and he produced a well taken finish to make it 2-1 and put Ashby through to the next round where they will travel to West Midlands Regional League side Stone Old Alleynians on Saturday 24th September.

IN OPPOSITION TODAY KIMBERLEY MINERS WELFARE Kimberley Miners Welfare Football Club was formed in 1926, one year after the opening of the Miners Welfare. Our early year’s was spent playing at the Mill Field, approximately 1⁄2 mile North of Digby Street. In 1932 KMWFC moved to the new recreation ground, Digby Street, situated adjacent to Digby Colliery and its cricket ground. Initially, Digby Street was solely a playing field with teams changing in Tommy Bird’s (pronounced Tommy Bod’s, in the local dialect) front room. It was a lengthy walk, for players and officials to Digby Street, because Tommy lived in a house supplied for workers, on site, at the Giltbrook Leather Works. In the late 1950s, changing facilities moved, to the Miners Welfare Bowling Alley underneath the building, which meant an even longer walk for players and officials. KMWFC have played at Digby Street for 81 years but, it hasn’t been continuous. The club played at the Wolsey Sports Ground for 1 season, 1974/75 (situated were Sainsbury’s Car Park now is, in Kimberley Town Centre), because the construction of the new A610 Eastwood & Kimberley Bypass took away part of the ground and made it unusable. 1982 was a key year in the history of the club as the present chairman Neil Johnson took on the role of chairman from his father. It wasn’t until the 1995/6 season that changing facilities were provided on the ground. A £7,500 grant from the National Lottery, and an equivalent generous donation from Chairman Neil Johnson, enabled the club to buy, transport and erect, the unwanted changing rooms from Calverton Cricket Club. This was around the time of the clubs most successful period on the pitch under the leadership of Paul Horry Kimberley won all 4 trophies available to them. Paul Horry left and was replaced on a caretaker basis by Steve Hobster. Don Munn took charge before the appointment of George Hulley. The joint management of Alf Stacey & Steve Towle took charge in the early 2000s. The pair resigned a few years later when Kimberley then turned back to the successful George Hulley who remained in charge until 2014 standing down following the clubs best season in a decade, finishing runners up in the Notts Senior League and gaining promotion to the East Midland Counties League, the highest level the football club have ever played at. In 2014 KMW appointed Paul Rawden and Dino Labbate as the clubs new first team management. In the summer of 2015 the club made a number of changes of the pitch with Brian Franks and Malc Burton aswell as the appointment of a New Secretary and Development Officer. In September 2015 Paul Rawden resigned his position and was quickly replaced by ex Ashby and Stapenhill Manager Tony Hemmings. Despite a positive start results turned and club parted company with Hemmings. Club Captain Martin Lench was appointed as Manager alongside the long serving Andy Miller until the end of the season. The duo retained the clubs EMCL Status. In June 2016 Welfare announced the appointment of Ian Deakin as joint manager alongside Martin Lench. Deaks joins the club was vast experience of non-league football as the club look to reach the FA Cup for the first time in their history. In 2012 Kimberley MW were given use of The Stag Ground former home of the defunct Kimberley Town and the task of restoring the rundown, near derelict, ground with the superb relationship of Kimberley Town Council is well underway with hundreds of man hours put in, the town of Kimberley finally have a Step 6 club and ground to be proud of. Plans are afoot with KTC to make future exciting developments to allow to the club and town to fulfil its potential.

ASHBY IVANHOE FC CLUB HISTORY Ashby Ivanhoe Football Club was founded in 1948 and play their home matches at the NFU Sports Ground, Lower Packington Road, Ashby de la Zouch in Leicestershire. This is the clubs new home from the beginning of the 2012/2013 season. Since being founded in 1948 up until the end of the 2011/2012 season the clubs previous home was at Hood Park also in Ashby de la Zouch. The club currently consists of four adult teams and a youth team. The first team play in the East Midlands Counties League, with the Reserves in the Leicestershire Senior League Premier Division. In the 2008/2009 season the club formed a Youth Team (Under 18’s) side who play in the Leicestershire Midweek Floodlit Youth League on Wednesday nights. A Sunday team was re-introduced for the 2012/2013 season and they play in the Burton Sunday League Division Three. For 2015/2016 a third Saturday side has been formed who will play in the North Leicestershire Football League Division One. The club also has 11 junior sides ranging from Under 9’s through to Under 17’s who play in the Burton Junior Football League, Tamworth Junior Football League and the Derby City League. The junior section came after the club merged with the David Hunt Soccer School at the beginning of the 2009-2010 season. In February 2004, Ashby Ivanhoe became an FA Charter Standard football club. The club is very ambitious and has plans to progress further up the league pyramid system. The club is run by an experienced management team and enjoys the support of some very prestigious commercial partners. Ashby Ivanhoe had one of their most successful seasons in 2010/11 as they completed a league and cup double by winning the Leicestershire Senior League by nine points and also lifted the Coalville Charity Cup for the very first time after producing a superb second half comeback to beat Bardon Hill 3-2 in the final. They have also reached successive Leicestershire Senior Cup finals in 2011/2012 and 2012/2013 but had to settle for runners-up on both occasions losing 3-1, firstly to Ibstock United and then Aylestone Park. The 2013/2014 season saw the first team achieve a long-term ambition as they won promotion into the Step 6 East Midlands Counties League for the 2014/2015 season after finishing third place in the Leicestershire Senior League. It was a close title race with the top three all finishing level on points with Ashby third on goal difference. The Reserves were also promoted to the Leicestershire Senior League Division One. 2014/2015 saw Ashby compete at Step 6 of the non-league pyramid for the first time and they had a very good season and secured a top six finish in the East Midlands Counties League which featured victories against all of the sides above them. The Reserve side were involved in a tight title race and it went down to a last day decider against Lutterworth Athletic Reserves but despite the result going against them on the day they were still promoted for the second season in succession and will play at Step 7 in the Leicestershire Senior League Premier Division for 2015/2016.
