vs Gedling Miners Welfare| Tuesday 15th November 2016 | www.ashbyivanhoefc.com
CHAIRMANS WELCOME Good evening and welcome to tonight’s match against our visitors Gedling Miners Welfare FC and may I extend a warm welcome to the players, officials and spectators of Gedling Miners Welfare FC and hope that we all enjoy a good match. Tonight’s game is the first game in charge for the clubs new management team and it gives me great pleasure to introduce Lee Attenborough and Steve Titterton to you all and I am sure you will all get behind them as they start to move us forward again. Some of you may know Steve Titterton as he was involved with the club over 7 years ago and I would like to think we gave Steve his first opportunity in Senior management before he went on to manage/coach at higher clubs including Gresley FC. This experience he has gained is one of the reasons I selected him to take charge of affairs once again as his knowledge of the local playing scene and clubs is a real asset to us and one which will bring in players if required. Steve is joined by Lee Attenborough who has been managing Sileby Town for just over 1 season but who has played and captained teams such as Loughborough Dynamo FC and Coalville Town FC to name a couple and his enthusiasm and desire to bring that experience as well as a passion for coaching is what brought me to the decision of asking both to take us forward. As I mentioned in my last notes the plan is for Steve and Lee to assess what players we have, what we need and to start to rebuild the playing side, coaching side and management side of the club and ensure that the communication between the 18’s, reserves and first team is fluid and that everyone understands the role they play in making the structure work. The mandate is not always about winning titles and cups but more about getting the communication, structure and right people involved and then I believe anything becomes possible. The period from now until Christmas will see this happen and then from the turn of the year to the end of the season start to put it all in place with a view that the following season becomes a stronger footing to challenge for things. I hope to make further announcements in the coming weeks with regards to key positions at the club and the introduction on more fresh faces to help us move the club forward. All that remains is to thank you for your continued support and to wish our players well today and hope we all are in for a good game. Stuart Bonser Club Chairman Ps – if you are visiting the ground by car please DO NOT OBSTRUCT the junction to Cambrian Way by parking on the grass/path verge as this is both dangerous and you could get a fixed penalty notice from the Council and or Police.

EAST MIDLANDS COUNTIES FOOTBALL LEAGUE SATURDAY 12TH NOVEMBER 2016 _______________________________________________________________________________________ ASHBY IVANHOE LINE-UP: Scott Reynolds, Jake Conkay, George Wesley, Chris Nettel, Tom Rowell Daniel Turnock, Luke Thorogood, Mark Muir, Kerr Horn, Dan Stevenson, Josh Riley SUBSTITUTES USED: Evan Cawley, Ryan Pearce, Jack Ryder GOALS: Dan Stevenson (72) ATTENDANCE: 60 _______________________________________________________________________________________ Ashby Ivanhoe couldn’t halt their winless run as visitors Dunkirk returned to Nottinghamshire with all three points following a 3-1 victory. They were comfortably 2-0 ahead at the break before increasing that to 3-0 midway through the second half. Dan Stevenson pulled one back for Ashby before another couple of chances went wide late on. The visitors had the first chance of the match which came with just three minutes on the clock when a ball into the area from the right was headed goalwards and unfortunately for Dunkirk the ball came back off the foot of the post. They did take the lead on 18 minutes though when the ball fell to a player inside the area and with his back to goal he managed to turn and send a scuffed shot goalwards with the ball finding the net just inside the far post. The advantage was doubled just six minutes later when they were awarded a free kick just outside the Ashby area in a central position to goal and the free kick was struck well and beat keeper Scott Reynolds. With three minutes of the first half remaining Dunkirk should have added a third goal when from another free kick the keeper spilled the shot and the follow up effort struck the woodwork leaving a two goal advantage at the break. Into the second half and just before the hour mark Dunkirk had another great opportunity to score a third when a ball back to the Ashby keeper was closed down which left the player with an unguarded net to aim at but from range the shot was narrowly the wrong side of the post but it did become 3-0 to the visitors with twenty minutes remaining when a superb low volley found the bottom corner of the net. Following the third goal the final twenty minutes saw Ashby have their best spell of pressure during the match and just two minutes after Dunkirk’s third goal Dan Stevenson pulled one back for Ashby. The goal came when Kerr Horn lifted the ball into the area over the last defender and Stevenson was there in the centre of the area to finish well. In the five minutes after Ashby’s goal Stevenson had two more chances to bring the home side back into the match. Firstly a cross into the area from Luke Thorogood was headed just wide of the far post and then a similar chance moments later saw another header go wide and with no further goals it was the visitors who took the victory. vs Gedling Miners Welfare| Tuesday 15th November 2016 | www.ashbyivanhoefc.com

IN OPPOSITION TODAY GEDLING MINERS WELFARE The Club was formed in 1919, at the same time as the Notts Alliance Football league resumed playing football again after the First World War. In their first season they finished 3rd in the League and won the League Cup by defeating local side Sneinton FC (now Carlton Town FC) 1-0. At the end of the 1929-30 Season the Club changed its name and became known as Mapperley St. Judes and enjoyed moderate success during this period. During the Second World War they reformed as Gedling Miners Welfare FC and with the restart of football for the 1945-46 Season they went on to win both the Notts Alliance League and Notts Alliance Senior Cup. This was repeated on numerous occasions and this success spilled over into the 1950s, which was the most successful period of the Club. We won the Notts Alliance League and Cup Double many times and at one point remained unbeaten for three Seasons. In the FA Amateur Cup they entertained two of the top sides of the time. Pegasus were the visitors to Plains Road in 1954 and temporary stands were erected all around the Ground to house a crowd of 7,000 plus. Two Seasons later Bishop Auckland visited and the Police put a limit of 10,000 on the Gate. We saw Gedling lose 4-1 to the best amateur team in the country, having missed a penalty at a crucial point in the game. The ‘Bishops’ had six amateur England Internationals on show and the most famous being Bob Hardisty who was the Captain of England. The staggering record attendance at Plains Road, will surely never again be surpassed by a Nottinghamshire amateur Club. These were the good times at Plains Road and unfortunately, the Club has not had the same degree of success since then. The lowest point came at the end of the 1998-99 Season when we had been relegated to Division 2 of the Notts Alliance FL. Only three Committee Members remained with only half a kit, half a team and no money, but the next Season saw us bounce back and under the guidance of Vic Hulme, Gedling won the League, Intermediate Cup and were semi-finalists to Retford United in the Notts FA County Cup. At the end of Season 2001-02 Vic stepped aside as Manager and took up the post of Chairman of the Club. This left the way open for the appointment of Duncan Broad and Mark Allison as the management team for the start of the 2002-03 Season. They had the task of building a team to match the ambitions of the Club and this was achieved when at the end of the next Season we applied and were accepted into the Central Midlands Football League, we then gained promotion to the Supreme Division in our first season which was more than we had anticipated. The club spent five years in the Central Midlands Football League under the guidance of Duncan Broad and Mark Allison before they left the Club, to take up appointments with our near neighbours Gedling Town in May 2009. During that time the Ground has seen a remarkable transformation from virtually a ‘Parks Pitch’ to what is now probably the best amateur ground in the area. Since the floodlights, fencing and hard standing was installed, it has had a profound effect on the Club. We have recently staged Notts FA Cup Finals and various representative games, which speaks for its self. We have seating on one side of the pitch and have plans to extend this to the road side of the ground. We feel that our facilities are starting to match those of local teams like Arnold Town and Carlton Town and as a result, Gedling were starting to put themselves on the map as one of the premier clubs in Nottingham and thus attracting a higher calibre of player into the fold. These facilities stood us in good stead when we applied and were accepted for the start of the 2008-09 season into the newly formed East Midland Counties Football League at Step 6 of the Pyramid System. This promotion has also enabled us to apply to play in the FA Cup. We played and lost away to Westfield FC of the MFA in our first attempt, but have great hopes of progressing further in the years to come. With Dunc and Ally leaving one Gedling club for another, it opened the door for the committee to appoint the respected Craig Maddison as manager in time for the start of the EMCL, where he was joined by ex- professional Calvin Plummer as his assistant. The pair finished their first season with a respectable league position of 8th, winning 15 of the 34 games available. Craig and Calvin had a further season at the helm before deciding to resign their position at the end of the 2009-10 campaign with a better finish of 7th. Graham Walker was appointed as manager in the June of 2010 and in his second year in charge took Gedling to a creditable fourth position finishing 4 points behind the champions. In a final game at Derbyshire club Gresley FC a 1-0

IN OPPOSITION TODAY victory for the hosts in front of a record-breaking 625 crowd was enough to gain promotion to MFA for Gresley. Graham left the club at the end of the 2010-11 season to join up with Bret Marshall at Retford Town. The committee turned to 1st team coach Lee Boulton to take the managerial reigns who in turn appointed Kuki Morley as his Assistant and Steve Towle as coach. After several difficult results and early exits from the FA Cup and Vase by mutual consent Lee and Kuki stepped down as managers. Committee acted quickly to appoint ex Arnold Town Manager Andy Muldoon as our next manager for the remainder of the 2011-12 season. Andy managed to keep the services of Steve Towle as coach and also brought in the ex Forest duo Bryn Gunn and Calvin Plummer of the Brian Clough era, to assist him. By the end of May 2012 Andy has steadied the ship and the club finished with a respectable points total of 38 points and a final league position of 13th. This was enough to persuade Andy and his team to stay for another season, with some new players brought in and a good preseason behind them optimism was high for the start of the 2012-13 campaign. Unfortunately this expectation didn’t really manifest into results so with very little progress being made, Andy felt it was an opportune time to make way for someone else for the start of the 2013-14 Season. The ‘someone else’ who the Committee appointed is Jonathon (Trigger) Simpson who has spent his previous three years managing Southwell City in the CMFL. Prior to that Trigger had played for Radcliffe Olympic and Gedling under Duncan Broad, So he knows the Club well and just the type of young manager the club was looking to appoint, we were delighted when he accepted our offer of management. The first season for Jonathon and his assistant Mark Foster was really one of transition, both for the club and them as managers, but sound solid decisions being made as the season progressed, with the team finishing a reasonable 12th with 42 points. This is something Jonathon built on during the 2014-15 Season finishing again in 12th place but with a much better points total of 53, scoring more goals and conceding less than the previous 2 seasons. The team looked to continue this development during the 2015-16 campaign and the addition of Kelvin Mushambi to his backroom staff as an assistant alongside Mark Foster and Shaun Stocks was a great step in the right direction. However, 2015-16 season proved to be the last for Jonathan and his team after finishing in 14th spot with 35 points from 38 games, Jonathan resigned from his position to concentrate on bringing up his young family. In the close season the committee appointed ex manager Graham Walker along with Frank Corrigan for their 2nd spell in charge. The duo is well known and experienced at this level and have created a real buzz around the club again. So we are all looking forward to what we believe will be a successful campaign this season, with a squad capable of competing on the pitch, we can all see progress they have made in the last few weeks and we are confident that Graham and his team will deliver. They will be backed up by the Committee and everyone at the Club to produce a team that we can all be proud of.

ASHBY IVANHOE FC CLUB HISTORY Ashby Ivanhoe Football Club was founded in 1948 and play their home matches at the NFU Sports Ground, Lower Packington Road, Ashby de la Zouch in Leicestershire. This is the clubs new home from the beginning of the 2012/2013 season. Since being founded in 1948 up until the end of the 2011/2012 season the clubs previous home was at Hood Park also in Ashby de la Zouch. The club currently consists of four adult teams and a youth team. The first team play in the East Midlands Counties League, with the Reserves in the Leicestershire Senior League Premier Division. In the 2008/2009 season the club formed a Youth Team (Under 18’s) side who play in the Leicestershire Midweek Floodlit Youth League on Wednesday nights. A Sunday team was re-introduced for the 2012/2013 season and they play in the Burton Sunday League Division Three. For 2015/2016 a third Saturday side has been formed who will play in the North Leicestershire Football League Division One. The club also has 11 junior sides ranging from Under 9’s through to Under 17’s who play in the Burton Junior Football League, Tamworth Junior Football League and the Derby City League. The junior section came after the club merged with the David Hunt Soccer School at the beginning of the 2009-2010 season. In February 2004, Ashby Ivanhoe became an FA Charter Standard football club. The club is very ambitious and has plans to progress further up the league pyramid system. The club is run by an experienced management team and enjoys the support of some very prestigious commercial partners. Ashby Ivanhoe had one of their most successful seasons in 2010/11 as they completed a league and cup double by winning the Leicestershire Senior League by nine points and also lifted the Coalville Charity Cup for the very first time after producing a superb second half comeback to beat Bardon Hill 3-2 in the final. They have also reached successive Leicestershire Senior Cup finals in 2011/2012 and 2012/2013 but had to settle for runners-up on both occasions losing 3-1, firstly to Ibstock United and then Aylestone Park. The 2013/2014 season saw the first team achieve a long-term ambition as they won promotion into the Step 6 East Midlands Counties League for the 2014/2015 season after finishing third place in the Leicestershire Senior League. It was a close title race with the top three all finishing level on points with Ashby third on goal difference. The Reserves were also promoted to the Leicestershire Senior League Division One. 2014/2015 saw Ashby compete at Step 6 of the non-league pyramid for the first time and they had a very good season and secured a top six finish in the East Midlands Counties League which featured victories against all of the sides above them. The Reserve side were involved in a tight title race and it went down to a last day decider against Lutterworth Athletic Reserves but despite the result going against them on the day they were still promoted for the second season in succession and will play at Step 7 in the Leicestershire Senior League Premier Division for 2015/2016.
