Tonight will be the first full game under the floodlights and there’s always something special about a floodlit game that adds something to the game and I hope it will be a repeat of the game on Saturday against St Andrews where I stood proud to be the Clubs Chairman and be part of such a memorable game. The support for the team was fantastic and I genuinely feel it spurred the players on to the win, at one point there was even chanting coming from the John German Terrace and I didn’t envy the St Andrews goalkeeper as he received some playful banter from the watching crowd. The atmosphere that was created was fantastic and numerous people came upto me after the game and commented on how much they enjoyed the game and the atmosphere. The hard work we have done at the club seemed to all come together on Saturday and when we scored the 3rd goal it felt like we had made a big step up and created a great football club, so my thanks to each and everyone of the spectators who made the atmosphere so special. The club has an exciting future ahead of itself and I hope we can remain focused on continuing to move forward on and off the field and provide many more memorable games and experiences like last Saturday. Enjoy tonight’s game. Stuart Bonser Club Chairman

FIRST TEAM UPDATE I would like to give a warm welcome to the players and officials of South Normanton Athletic FC. Reflecting on our previous encounters, today’s game should be a classic. South Normanton have had a great start to this campaign and I would suggest that if they carry on in the same vein, they will finish in the top 10 in the league. As I’ve discussed in my previous programme notes, we have signed 5 new players because October’s fixtures of 8 games have taken its toll on my squad. Unfortunately, although I thought injury wise we were turning a corner, Saturday’s hard fought win against St Andrews saw two players being withdrawn from the game due to injuries. Quiggy had to be taken off with an ankle ligament injury whilst Callum McBride had to be withdrawn due to a hamstring strain. Having a large squad is hard to manage, however, when you experience an injury crisis like we’ve experienced over the past 5 weeks, the struggle of managing a large squad doesn’t seem so bad. Departure: Unfortunately, after Saturday’s game, Sam Carline decided it would be best to find himself a new club as he recognised that his pitch time for the first team would be limited and with the signing of a number of new centre midfielders, this would further affect his first team playing opportunities. Therefore, I would like to take this opportunity to thank Sam for his efforts and wish him all the best for the future. Looking at the positives, our squad strength in depth has grown. We have strong competition for places, which will only benefit the squad and the club. Luke Tozer has started training with the first team again after his medial ligament damage, which was sustained in the away fixture at Bardon Hill. I believe he will be in contention for a first team place in early December. Chris Saunders and Dan Sharp have now recovered from their ankle injuries and they are both back with the first team squad. I hope you find this insight into the first team squad informative, equally I hope it helps you to understand why I have moved squad members around. I hope you enjoy tonight’s game. MATCH REPORT VS ST ANDREWS ASHBY IVANHOE 3

Lowe 53, Stevenson 60, Thorogood 63

ST ANDREWS 2

T Warner 5, M Warner 50(p) East Midlands Counties Football League Saturday 15th November 2014 Ashby Ivanhoe produced a fine second half comeback to recover from a two goal deficit and defeat league leaders St Andrews and close the gap at the top of the table to five points. It looked all over for Ashby as a penalty five minutes into the second half put the visitors 2-0 ahead before three goals in ten minutes from Josh Lowe, Dan Stevenson and Luke Thorogood turned the match on its head. It was the visitors who made a quick start to the match and in the first half they were passing the ball around well and created a number of chances and with the first of those they opened the scoring with just five minutes on the clock when they capitalised on a defensive error when the Ashby defender had waited for the keeper to come for the ball and the attacking side stole possession and Toby Warner was left with a finish into an empty net. On 20 minutes St Andrews had a chance to double their advantage when Ashby’s keeper Wayne Smith failed to collect a ball into the area and a shot was sent towards goal which was cleared off the line and they also had a chance go just the wrong side of the post as they looked the more threatening side going forward. Inside the final fifteen minutes of the first half the visitors had a couple more chances to increase their lead with the first shot being blocked, which Ashby had done many times during the half, before the follow-up shot was saved with the teams going in at the break with the away side holding a slender lead.

MATCH REPORT VS ST ANDREWS The start of the second half was exactly the same as the first as St Andrews started where they had left off and five minutes in they doubled their lead. It came from the penalty spot after the Ashby defender had been penalised for a handball and the spot kick was dispatched high into the net. It looked a long way back for Ashby at this point as they had rarely troubled the visiting keeper but they quickly pulled a goal back just three minutes later which sparked the turnaround. The goal came from a corner which was swung into the area and at the near post Josh Lowe found the net from close range. Ashby were now on the front foot and roared on by a record attendance at the NFU Sports Ground they levelled the scores on the hour mark with a cracking goal when a cross from the right found Dan Stevenson inside the area and he planted a powerful header out of reach of the keeper and into the top corner of the net. St Andrews were now on the back foot and they had no answer to Ashby’s attacking play and on 63 minutes the turnaround was complete. It came from another cross from the right which was played in low and hard after beating a defender and inside the area was Luke Thorogood who slid in to fire the ball home into the bottom corner to send the home fans wild. Both side has spells of pressure in the final twenty minutes as firstly Ashby looked to increase their lead further with a fourth goal which didn’t come and then as they looked to keep hold of their advantage there was a tense last ten minutes as St Andrews looked for an equaliser but they failed to create a meaningful chance and it was Ashby who took all three points and after tonight’s cup tie they face another tough match at the top end of the table as they travel to second place Holbrook Sports on Saturday.

THE OPPOSITION SOUTH NORMANTON ATHLETIC Football was first played at Lees Lane in the 1926/27 season playing under the name of South Normanton Miners Welfare, and progressed to the Central Alliance Football League and after into the Sutton and Skegby League. The nickname ‘Shiners’ derives from the mid 1750’s when South Normanton was at the heart of the ribbed stocking industry. The people involved in this craft worked long hours sitting at their windows on wooden stools, so much so, that the backsides of their trousers became very shiny making them instantly recognisable as coming from the South Normanton area and since then local people have been referred to and called ‘Shiners’. Under the new name South Normanton Athletic joined the Central Midlands Football League in the 1990/91 season. The clubs first major success came in the 1993/94 season when they finished runners up in the Premier Division. This gained them promotion to the Supreme Division. The club made their first entry into the FA Vase in the 1994/95 season. In the 1996/97 season disaster struck when the old changing rooms were destroyed by fire. The clubs future lay in the balance and with limited time available members of the committee virtually worked round the clock to convert a derelict building into suitable changing rooms, which at the time were intended to be for a temporary period only the leagues deadline for completion was accomplished with little time to spare. At the end of the 1996/1997 season, the club was relegated due to the 3 year flood light installation rule not being met; funds set aside to complete this project had been spent in establishing new changing rooms. The floodlights were completed in 1998 and the club was reinstated back into the Supreme Division. The team’s best position being 3rd which a promotion place was awarded. The club was promoted to the Northern Counties East League for the start of the 2003/04 season where they played till the club decided to fold at the end of the 2007/08 season due to an ageing committee and no new blood coming to the club. We have now reformed the club with a new committee, management and players. For the first time in a long while there is an air of optimism and expectancy of bigger and better things to come at Lees Lane. As one of the old committee members said “it’s just nice to see football being played here again”. That enthusiasm bore fruit last season when the club were promoted to Step 6 of the football pyramid and were accepted into the East Midlands Counties League. We hope to keep the momentum going and hopefully achieve further success. The clubs reserve team were also accepted into the Nottingham Senior League in season 2014/15 to open another chapter in the clubs history.

ASHBY IVANHOE FC CLUB HISTORY Ashby Ivanhoe Football Club was founded in 1948 and play their home matches at the NFU Sports Ground, Lower Packington Road, Ashby de la Zouch in Leicestershire. This is the clubs new home from the beginning of the 2012/2013 season. Since being founded in 1948 up until the end of the 2011/2012 season the clubs previous home was at Hood Park also in Ashby de la Zouch. The club currently consists of three adult teams and a youth team. The first team play in the East Midlands Counties League, with the Reserves in the Leicestershire Senior League Division One. In the 2008/2009 season the club formed a Youth Team (Under 18’s) side who play in the Leicestershire Midweek Floodlit Youth League on Wednesday nights. A Sunday team was re-introduced for the 2012/2013 season and they play in the Burton Sunday League Division Two. The club also has 11 junior sides ranging from Under 9’s through to Under 17’s who play in the Burton Junior Football League, Tamworth Junior Football League and the Derby City League. The junior section came after the club merged with the David Hunt Soccer School at the beginning of the 20092010 season. In February 2004, Ashby Ivanhoe became an FA Charter Standard football club. The club is very ambitious and has plans to progress further up the league pyramid system. The club is run by an experienced management team and enjoys the support of some very prestigious commercial partners. Ashby Ivanhoe had one of their most successful seasons in 2010/11 as they completed a league and cup double by winning the Leicestershire Senior League by nine points and also lifted the Coalville Charity Cup for the very first time after producing a superb second half comeback to beat Bardon Hill 3-2 in the final. They have also reached successive Leicestershire Senior Cup finals in 2011/2012 and 2012/2013 but had to settle for runners-up on both occasions losing 3-1, firstly to Ibstock United and then Aylestone Park. The 2013/2014 season saw the first team achieve a long-term ambition as they won promotion into the Step 6 East Midlands Counties League for the 2014/2015 season after finishing third place in the Leicestershire Senior League. It was a close title race with the top three all finishing level on points with Ashby third on goal difference. The Reserves were also promoted to the Leicestershire Senior League Division One.
