CHAIRMANS WELCOME Good afternoon and welcome to tonight’s match against our visitors Graham Street Prims FC and may I extend a warm welcome to the players, officials and spectators of Graham Street Prims FC and hope that we all enjoy a good match. What can I say in my notes tonight apart from what an amazing victory again last Saturday against Loughborough Dynamo in the Preliminary Round of the FA CUP which takes us into the next round against Ilkeston Town FC. The credit for the victory must be given to the players and to the Management Team who had watch Loughborough in their previous 2 games and understood the game plan which was needed and the players executed it perfectly against a team 2 steps higher and thoroughly deserved the victory. I would also like to thank all of the spectators that made the trip to Loughborough as yet again you became the teams 12th man and I was told we had approx 80 of the 115 crowd there so thank you to you all for your support it really does make a difference and I hope that you are as excited about the journey we are on. As you may all be aware the next round is a Home tie against Ilkeston Town who play 3 steps higher that us and would be favourites for the game. However, as you may have read, they are currently suspended from all football due to unpaid debts that have now been called in. As a club we can only plan that the game goes ahead and we will keep you posted on any decision from the FA on our website and Social Media links. We would love the game to go ahead and challenge ourselves against a team higher than us in a one off game as well as enjoy a memorable afternoon in the clubs history. I would anticipate we would have our largest crowd to date (beating the 328 in the Extra Prelim round) and we will be meeting to discuss the logistics of the game this week too so keep your eyes on the website and facebook for messages on Parking etc. If you would like to help out on the day then please let me know. The reserves kick off their season this week so good luck to Russ and the boys. We have fixtures thick and fast over the coming weeks with our next Home game on Bank Holiday Monday so be sure to join us as we host Ellistown and Ibstock FC. All that remains is to thank you for your continued support and to wish our players well today and hope we all are in for a good game. Stuart Bonser Club Chairmam Ps – if you are visiting the ground by car please DO NOT OBSTRUCT the junction to Cambrian Way by parking on the grass/path verge as this is both dangerous and you could get a fixed penalty notice from the Council and or Police.

FIRST TEAM UPDATE Good evening and welcome to the home of Ashby Ivanhoe FC. May I extend a very warm welcome on behalf of the Club to everyone attending tonight’s match and in particular the players, officials and supporters of our opponents Graham St Prims. Drawing up these notes on Thursday before Saturday’s FA Cup clash with Loughborough Dynamo my thoughts are very much focused on setting out the team to progress to the next round. Having watched Loughborough play twice in the last week, with a minimum of two thirds of the squad available and a fair wind I am confident we could put on a performance that would see us prosper. This said with no less than 13 players unavailable we will need everyone on their game to stand a fighting chance. Call me old fashioned but should players need cajoling into playing in the FA Cup with the prize a potential fixture against a club that is currently suspended and the opportunity to progress to within two games of the first round proper. Our last game, the home fixture against West Bridgford illustrated the fine margins that exist in 90 minutes of football. The first half an hour saw us perform to a level that we have been striving for since pre-season began, a level we have shown in patches in our three other competitive games. However, we failed to make the correct decisions at key moments especially in front of goal. Having gone behind just after the half hour against the run of play we were still confident of turning the game around but a moment of madness saw us reduced to ten men and the deficit doubled with the resultant penalty. I felt for the ten players left on the pitch to try and turn things around as the final score line was harsh but full credit to West Bridgford who took their chances clinically. The results so far reflect totally where we are, the players have great potential, success is “possible but not yet actual.” Whether it becomes actual is a choice they need to make by committing to the cause and improving themselves as players and people. Football mirrors life, if you take short cuts you will get found out. We have been found out thirteen times already this season. When you do something with an abundance of honesty, appetite and commitment, nine times out of ten the input reflects in the output. There will always be occasions when you don’t get what you deserve but players need to be able to look at themselves and their team mates in the eye in the knowledge they have left nothing on that pitch on a Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. With respect to tonight’s game, our visitors prospered last season from a poor second half performance from ourselves and we expect another tough encounter. We will be looking for a more consistent performance than we have shown to date, few teams play well for the full 90 minutes but in periods when the opposition is in the ascendency we should be more resilient and adjust our game accordingly. Let’s “hope” we can build on the positive aspects of the last few weeks and produce an entertaining performance with the desired outcome. Thank you for your support and enjoy the game. WEST BRIDGFORD
EAST MIDLANDS COUNTIES FOOTBALL LEAGUE SATURDAY 13TH AUGUST 2016 ASHBY IVANHOE LINE-UP: Chris Hodge, Jack Ryder, Evan Cawley, James Purslow, Tom Rowell, Joel Wolfe, Patrick Rowell, Luke Thorogood, Danny Quinn, Kerr Horn, Elliott Bott SUBSTITUTES USED: Sam Kirk, Josh Riley, Nick Sewell ATTENDANCE: 105 Ashby Ivanhoe failed to build on the previous weeks FA Cup victory as early league leaders West Bridgford took advantage of an extra man to run out easy 5-0 victors. Two goals late in the first half and a further three after the break saw Ashby fall to a heavy defeat at the NFU Sports Ground. Ashby had opened their league campaign the previous Wednesday evening when they drew 4-4 in a topsyturvy away encounter at Borrowash Victoria whereas newly promoted West Bridgford had begun their campaign with a couple of 1-0 victories to sit top of the early season table. A tight game was expected and the opening twenty five minutes saw just that with the majority of the play in the centre of the pitch with very little getting beyond the two defences with the first real chance of the match not coming until the 26th minute when a ball forward from Ashby found Danny Quinn but with just the keeper to beat he was put under pressure from the defender and the shot cleared the crossbar. Ashby were having a spell of pressure and minutes later they had another couple of chances to take the lead when firstly from inside the area an attempt from Luke Thorogood was deflected wide of the near post and the second chance saw a low cross into the area find its way to Patrick Rowell on the edge of the area and his shot produced a fine save from the visiting keeper who turned the ball away from goal. The first goal of the game came eight minutes before half time when a ball into the area from the left was headed goalwards and despite keeper Chris Hodge making the save the ball ran loose and was finished from close range. The scoreline was quickly doubled just two minutes later when a shot for West Bridgford was blocked on the line by an Ivanhoe defender who used his hand and the referee was left with no choice but to show a red card and reduce Ashby to ten men and from the resulting penalty the ball was dispatched into the bottom corner and give the visitors a two goal cushion at the break. The second half saw West Bridgford control the match and within ten minutes of the restart they had surely put the game beyond doubt with a third goal when a ball to the edge of the area was well controlled by the forward who then made his finish look easy with a low shot beyond Hodge. The final two goals came in quick succession just inside the final twenty minutes of the match. The fourth goal for West Bridgford came when an initial shot was cleared off the line but the ball fell straight back to the opposition and this time the shot couldn’t be kept out and four then became five when another handball inside the area resulted in a second penalty of the match and just like the first the spot-kick found the bottom corner. The visitors didn’t have to step out of first gear as Ashby had no answer with the closest they came to a goal in the second half coming minutes from full time with substitute Josh Riley’s shot narrowly off target. vs Graham Street Prims | Tuesday 23rd August 2016 | www.ashbyivanhoefc.com

ASHBY IVANHOE
THE EMIRATES FA CUP PRELIMINARY ROUND SATURDAY 20TH AUGUST 2016 ASHBY IVANHOE LINE-UP: : Luke Hemingway, Jack Ryder, Evan Cawley, Chris Nettel, Tom Rowell, Sam Johnson, Patrick Rowell, Luke Thorogood, Dan Stevenson, Kerr Horn, Elliott Bott SUBSTITUTES USED: Royce Turville SUBSTITUTES USED: Luke Thorogood (31), Sam Johnson (51), Elliott Bott (63) ATTENDANCE: 115 Ashby Ivanhoe put in another sensational cup performance as they defeated Northern Premier League Division One South side Loughborough Dynamo 3-1 in their own backyard to extend their debut season in the Emirates FA Cup and set up a First Qualifying Round tie against Ilkeston FC. Ashby were dominant against their opponents, two steps higher in the non-league pyramid, and Luke Thorogood gave them a first half lead. Within twenty minutes of the restart Sam Johnson and Elliott Bott had increased the lead to 3-0 before the home side headed home a consolation in injury time. Ashby who had beaten Loughborough 3-2 after extra time in their previous meeting in the Leicestershire Challenge Cup last season began the better side and in the ninth minute they forced a succession of corners and from the third of these the ball found Dan Stevenson and his header across goal towards the far post was cleared off the line by a defender. Five minutes later and Ashby had another great chance to take the lead when Elliott Bott was brought down on the edge of the area and the free kick was left for Thorogood to strike and his powerful effort crashed against the inside of the post with the keeper well beaten. All the chances were being created by Ashby as they continue to put pressure on the Dynamo defence and another header was cleared off the line at the far post before a ball into the box resulted in a header at goal from Kerr Horn but a defender managed to get a head to the ball to clear it behind. Ashby’s first half efforts were rewarded though just past the half hour mark when they opened the scoring. The ball was received by Stevenson on the edge of the Loughborough penalty area and after threading the ball through the defence he was brought down but the referee gave Ashby the advantage with the ball finding Thorogood and after going round a defender he rolled the ball back across goal and into the bottom corner. Elliott Bott had Ashby’s next opportunity eight minutes before the break when the ball fell kindly to him inside the area but his powerful effort struck a defender which diverted the ball over the bar. On the stroke of half time Thorogood had a chance to score his and Ashby’s second but after coming inside from the right his well struck effort was turned over the bar by the keeper and then in injury time a cross from the left evaded everyone in the area and Tom Rowell at the back post was unable to get a decisive touch to turn the ball home and somehow Ashby were only going in at the break 1-0 to the good where it quite easily could have been four or five. 14

LATEST MATCH ACTION The start of the second half saw Ashby now playing against a strong wind and the first couple of minutes after the restart saw Loughborough have the ball in the Ashby half but they couldn’t create a chance and the away side quickly got back into their stride and doubled their advantage on 51 minutes when a free kick from midway inside the Loughborough half was played forward and unmarked inside the area was captain Sam Johnson who diverted his header towards the far post and beyond the keeper. Ashby should have increased their lead further just a couple of minutes later when Bott got inside the area and saw his shot saved by the keeper and after the ball had run loose back into the centre of the area three Ivanhoe players had attempts at goal only to see them blocked by defenders with the last clearing the crossbar. Just after the hour mark and Ashby did make it 3-0 when a ball down the right found Thorogood and he advanced towards the edge of the area to the right of goal before crossing the ball to the back post where a header was well saved by the keeper but he failed to hold on and the ball ran loose to Bott and he turned a fired a shot into the bottom corner of the net. With twenty minutes remaining a free kick was awarded to Ashby in a promising position and upstepped Thorogood again and this time the keeper was forced into making a fine save diving down low to his right to turn the ball beyond the near post. Ashby made just the one change during the match bringing Royce Turville on for Kerr Horn and the substitute should have added a fourth goal when a through ball found him behind the defence but his shot cleared the bar without troubling the keeper. As the match entered injury time Loughborough managed to net a consolation goal when a cross into the area was headed home to make the final score 3-1 but despite the disappointment at not keeping a clean sheet the celebrations could begin following a superb performance with the team applauded off the pitch by a large travelling contingent and they will now look forward to the next round and a home tie with Step 3 side Ilkeston FC on Saturday 3rd September.

IN OPPOSITION TODAY GRAHAM STREET PRIMS Graham Street Prims were originally founded in 1904, being formed from a primitive Methodist Church from which they derived the name “Prims”. Graham Street itself is actually situated off Osmaston Road in the city of Derby and is close to the Baseball Ground, former home of Derby County until they moved to their new home at Pride Park. Prims were disbanded in 1914 due to the outbreak of the first world war but in the ten year period until that time they boasted several players who went on to play league football, these included the Keetley brothers and Jimmy Bagshaw who eventually went on to play for Notts County and England. Prims were reformed in 1953 and achieved many honours, mainly in the Central Alliance, The East Midlands League and the Derbyshire Senior League. The finest years came between 1971 and 1981 when they won no less than fifteen major honours including seven Derbyshire FA Cup wins and eight League titles. In 1991 Prims were again disbanded due to not having a suitable ground of the required league standard but in 1995 were reformed through a merger with Derby Carriage & Wagon FC. Since reforming, they have been semifinalists in the Derbyshire Senior Cup, beating Matlock Town on the way and losing to Belper Town 2-0 in the semi final. They gained promotion from the Premier Division of the Central Midlands League to the Supreme Division, finishing fifth in their first season in the higher division. After suffering four years of continual vandalism at the Railway Ground in Longbridge Lane, Derby and having been relegated for not having floodlights, the club was on the verge of folding once more. But a determined committee met with officials from Borrowash Victoria FC at the Asterdale Sports and Social Club in Spondon and owners of the land, The Heritage Pub Company as a result, a pitch and the promise of a lease was offered. Prims committee met with Officials from the Central Midlands League, led by Mr Frank Harwood, they gave the go-ahead to our new home and work soon started on the ground. New post & rail was erected and new pitch drainage was installed. Re-seeding and verti draining of the pitch has also took place as well as a complete conversion of the old “Band Hut” into a dressing room complex and hospitality suite. Installation of a 2 metre high fence around the perimeter of the pitch with floodlights installed and the siting of a portacabin to provide refreshments for spectators as well as separate toilets also being completed. Raising the money for this operation, which has taken place over a number of years was a mammoth task with fund raising, loans and grants being obtained, this resulted in the club paying out around £90-100K. In 2008 the Asterdale club closed, this brought about a spate of vandalism, which cost Prims a great deal of time and money which they could ill afford, repairing roof’s, replacing glass and removing graffiti etc. Eventually new buyers for the sight were found. The new owners, ROSCOM decided they would knock down the old club to build an office block and also promised new facilities for Prims, this is still the aim but an agreement between Roscom and the City Council over the planning application has still to be agreed. The new owner has assured us that they are very keen to keep sport going at the ground and after meeting with them our future looks bright, meanwhile negotiations for a long term lease are ongoing On the playing side season 2008-2009 saw a new league formed for the East Midlands at step six in the FA Pyramid system, teams primarily from the Central Midlands League, Leicester Senior League and the Notts Alliance was formed with Prims among the teams competing as founder members. We were also joined by our near neighbours, Borrowash Victoria, who left the Northern Counties (East) League to join the East Midlands Counties, ensuring two excellent local derbies in prospect. Our Reserves were placed in the new Central Midlands Supreme Reserve League with our under 18’s side competing in the Derby City League. Wayne Harvey Toon remains as Club Chairman and Ray Garlick has agreed to sponsor maintenance of the ground for three years, resulting in our ground being known as the RAYGAR ARENA.

IN OPPOSITION TODAY Since the highly successful seasons of the 70’s and 80’s progress has been somewhat steady, to say the least, this has been mainly due to us competing with other local sides who are in a position to offer incentives to players, where we are clearly in no position to offer any form of payment. This inability to attract players seeking some form of remuneration caused Prims another problem with managers, resulting in us having EIGHT managers over a period of eighteen years. Most of the managers over this period had played for Prims at some time and like the rest of the Managers, found difficulty recruiting good quality players. In 2009 Prims appointed Mick Rodgers (who had been very successful with Vics), however he too suffered from the same problem as previous managers and resigned half way through the season. Prims committee were again forced to advertise in the local press and through various local league websites and after interviewing three candidates, Mark Webster was appointed in December 2009 with the task of keeping Prims in the EMCL. Mark had been very successful with Holbrook MW (now Holbrook Sports), another of Prims local rivals, bringing a wealth of experience he set about his task of bringing some stability to the club. He brought with him Mick Bentley (who had been with Prims previously) and was joined by Tony Collins and Mark Harris who brought their own young Chellaston team to form the nucleus of the Reserves. Because of Prims inability to pay players Mark’s aim was to concentrate mainly on youth. In the 2011-2012 season Ian McAndrew joined Prims from Mickleover Sports as Mark’s assistant. Mark demanded loyalty from everyone at the club including the committee and last season saw his efforts bear fruit with the 1st team reaching the final of the league cup and finishing eighth in the league. The reserves reaching the semi-final of the DFA Divisional Cup and finishing fifth in their league and the Youth team finishing runners-up in the Derby City Under 18 League. The club now enjoys a welcome return to the days of the “Community Spirit” which must go down to the discipline Mark has instilled in his players. He has not been frightened to bring young players into the first team, and has brought about a very optimistic future for the club. The 2013-2014 season sees a new club structure launched and designed by Tony Collins to bring a more professional look to the committee and throughout the club. With everyone pulling in the right direction and if we can get the dressing room plans sorted the outlook for the club is very bright indeed.

In the 2008/2009 season the club formed a Youth Team (Under 18’s) side who play in the Leicestershire Midweek Floodlit Youth League on Wednesday nights. A Sunday team was re-introduced for the 2012/2013 season and they play in the Burton Sunday League Division Three. For 2015/2016 a third Saturday side has been formed who will play in the North Leicestershire Football League Division One. The club also has 11 junior sides ranging from Under 9’s through to Under 17’s who play in the Burton Junior Football League, Tamworth Junior Football League and the Derby City League. The junior section came after the club merged with the David Hunt Soccer School at the beginning of the 2009-2010 season. In February 2004, Ashby Ivanhoe became an FA Charter Standard football club. The club is very ambitious and has plans to progress further up the league pyramid system. The club is run by an experienced management team and enjoys the support of some very prestigious commercial partners. Ashby Ivanhoe had one of their most successful seasons in 2010/11 as they completed a league and cup double by winning the Leicestershire Senior League by nine points and also lifted the Coalville Charity Cup for the very first time after producing a superb second half comeback to beat Bardon Hill 3-2 in the final. They have also reached successive Leicestershire Senior Cup finals in 2011/2012 and 2012/2013 but had to settle for runners-up on both occasions losing 3-1, firstly to Ibstock United and then Aylestone Park. The 2013/2014 season saw the first team achieve a long-term ambition as they won promotion into the Step 6 East Midlands Counties League for the 2014/2015 season after finishing third place in the Leicestershire Senior League. It was a close title race with the top three all finishing level on points with Ashby third on goal difference. The Reserves were also promoted to the Leicestershire Senior League Division One. 2014/2015 saw Ashby compete at Step 6 of the non-league pyramid for the first time and they had a very good season and secured a top six finish in the East Midlands Counties League which featured victories against all of the sides above them. The Reserve side were involved in a tight title race and it went down to a last day decider against Lutterworth Athletic Reserves but despite the result going against them on the day they were still promoted for the second season in succession and will play at Step 7 in the Leicestershire Senior League Premier Division for 2015/2016.
