A DEVOTED SUPPORTER SADLY PASSES AWAY Ashby Ivanhoe FC are sad to report the passing of one its most devoted and loyal supporters, Graham Gough who sadly passed away on Friday 13th January. Ashby Ivanhoe FC Chairman, Stuart Bonser commented “Graham was one of our most loyal and devoted supporters and followed the club with real interest across its Under 18’s, Reserves and First team. I have personally known Graham and his family for many years as he was a neighbour of my parents on Willowbrook Close and I know he loved his football and that love grew with Ashby Ivanhoe FC when we introduced the Midweek Floodlit Under 18’s team as Graham really enjoyed watching the young and upcoming talent playing for the club. As part of the new Under 18’s we had to erect floodlights and power them via a generator and Graham was often seen over the winter months hugging the container where the generator was housed to keep himself warm. I have many funny stories about Graham but he would always stop and ask me about the club and the plans we had and since we moved to the new ground he rarely missed a game and always showed keen interest in our progress both on and off the field. I have very fond memories of Graham and he will be sadly missed by all who knew him at the club and who stood with him on the sidelines and we will be marking our respect for Graham at the next 3 games involving the first team, reserves and Under 18’s as I believe this is the perfect way to give thanks to Graham who supported all 3 teams. The Club will also be erecting a special plaque in recognition of Graham at the ground and further news on this will follow. On behalf of the Club I would like to finish by saying, “Graham, you will be sadly missed and our thoughts are with your family and friends at this time” Stuart Bonser – Club Chairman 4

CHAIRMANS WELCOME Good evening and welcome to tonight’s QTR Final match against our visitors Borrowash Victoria FC and may I extend a warm welcome to the players, officials and spectators of Borrowash Victoria FC and hope that we all enjoy a good match. As you may have already heard and seen in the programme we are sad to report the loss of one of the clubs most loyal supporters, Graham Gough, whose funeral was today and only befitting that we will be holding a minutes silence ahead of tonight’s game in his memory and I ask that you all observe this. Tonight we can also celebrate 2 bits of great news, 1 the safe arrival of Lee’s Baby Daughter on Saturday and we wish Lee and his family well and the other safe arrival to celebrate is the return of Sam “Jonno” Johnson who returns back to the team tonight after a short spell at Shepshed Dynamo and I have never been so pleased to welcome a player back at the club as I do in Sam as he is “old school” for me and a real asset to the club and I am sure he will return back in the same way – welcome back Sam from us all. Since the arrival of Steve and Lee we have seen the introduction of some really positive players who have added value to the team and the changing room which is important in any team sport. With the arrival of new players you also get some players at the club that choose to move on for a variety of reasons. The mandate for Steve and Lee was to galvanise the players and management at the club and get players to understand the role they play and that they are part of a club that does its very best to provide them with an experience like no other. The players at Ashby Ivanhoe don’t get paid to play and whilst other teams in this division do pay their players I remain confident that we can attract the right type of players who want to play for the club not for a pay packet which, in my opinion, is the only sustainable way to build a club and a team. That said I have always been up front about rewarding players for their efforts but this does not always have to be money. For example the seniors get to train at Champneys for their pre-season which is where the likes of England and Brazil have trained in the past before St Georges Park. The fantastic achievements in the FA CUP were down to the whole club pulling together and the players earning the club prize money along the way for which they were duly rewarded with beers and a FREE night out at Manhattans with a private booth, Champagne, shots and beers. The players are the reason why we all do what we do and their efforts never go un-noticed but they too should recognise the efforts that many volunteers put in week in week out to provide them with the platform to play football. However, I must go on record to say how football at the higher level has in some ways been a good thing but in many others it has conditioned some players at our level to think that football owes them a living or that everything should be free and that we should just keep wasting money to stroke their egos and one example is a player that has now gone to Shepshed Dynamo who thought that we should pay his fines and took to social media to state he was disappointed at the club for chasing him for fines despite the club earning money from the cup run. Well reality is this Mr Cawley, you got booked not the club, you pay your own fines not the club and as you didn’t pay your fines the club issued a suspension notice to the County FA which will stop you playing football until you do pay your fines, quite simple really. I am sure your boss at work would not pay your parking or speeding fines so why do you think a football club is any different? The statement about earning the club prize money is quite true but why should the club pay one players fines (over £60) and not give every player that played in the Cups the same amount of money that it would have given you? Why? Quite simply it is not sustainable and I for one am not saddened by your departure to another club as we do not need players like you at this club. All that remains is to wish the team well tonight and hope that we all enjoy a good afternoon of football. Stuart Bonser Club Chairman Ps – if you are visiting the ground by car please DO NOT OBSTRUCT the junction to Cambrian Way by parking on the grass/path verge as this is both dangerous and you could get a fixed penalty notice from the Council and or Police.

FIRST TEAM UPDATE Managers Talk Good evening and welcome to NFU sports ground for this evening’s League Cup Quarter final game against Borrowash Victoria FC. We would like to welcome all those connected with Borrowash and hope you have a safe journey home. Well after our recent loss away at West Bridgford, we have managed to get back to winning ways with two fine away victories at Arnold Town and last Saturday at Graham St Prims. It is vital that when you have had a defeat you react straight away with a victory as quick as possible and try to put another run of wins together. The challenge to the players is to beat the last run of 9 games unbeaten “Let’s go again lads!!” Whilst we have started ok the most pleasing thing is we are now regarded as very hard to beat and breakdown by the top teams in this division, I know from talking to other managers of the top sides they don’t fancy playing us! Back to tonight’s game; having a good Cup run is so important to us as a group, it’s a chance for hopefully some silverware come the end of the season, and gives the lads a good incentive going into the last part of the season. We need to be at our best tonight as Borrowash are a very good, well organised side that will also want to do well in this cup competition. It’s very important for us to continue picking up points in the league and let’s see where we are in the table after the next run of 10 games to then push on further. Reference player movements I am delighted to welcome back Sam Johnston back to the club after a short spell away “Welcome back Jonno” On other club announcements I would like to also congratulate my mate and partner in crime (Joint Manager Lee Attenborough) on the arrival of his new born baby girl last Saturday. To our supporters, your support has been great and we would like to say thank you- this really helps the lads. Enjoy the game. IN OPPOSITION TODAY BORROWASH VICTORIA Borrowash Victoria AFC was founded in the summer of 1911. Like many clubs of the time Borrowash did not start with a blaze of glory. Popular belief is that the only illumination for the inaugural meeting was the gas-lights of Elm Street. However this wasn’t to put the fledgling members off. They secured a pitch, Coffee Joe’s Field, and changing facilities. Though opposing teams must have wondered at the mile and a half walk between the two. From this modest start the club enjoyed a challenging future. Two World Wars halted play, but on each occasion the club reformed once peace returned. Off-field challenges saw the club disband and reform on three occasions. Despite all of this the will of the locals to have a football team represent their village remained unchecked. Maybe that is what makes the club motto so relevant ‘Palma non sine pulvere” – ‘No Victory without effort’. The present club commenced in 1963 when a group led by Tony Beardsley tired of the restrictions of the youth league. With the support of Albert Anderton and Neville Hardy the new team started playing in the depths of Section E of the Derby Welfare League. The new team was christened, Borrowash Victoria Amateur Football Club, or simply “The Vics” to the locals. Only three years later, and following early successes in both league and cup, the popularity of the club led to the creation of a reserve team. One major difference back then was that the teams didn’t have a manager and it was not until January 1968 that the first manager was appointed, one Mr Arnold Grace. He led the team to promotion in his opening season and developed the team’s standing tremendously until he left the club in 1968 due to ill health. Arnold did not however retire from The Vics entirely and returned as chairman in 1975. It is that type of devotion to the club that frequently marks the history of The Vics. Several names reappear as you look through the archives; players’ who hung up their boots only to stay on with the club in another capacity. No doubt it was that spirit that encouraged ex-international Alan Hinton to sign for the club in 1977, an event that saw the TV cameras at a Vics game for the first and only time. Incidentally, Alan was spotted by the cameras at the end of the game taking the nets down. I doubt any of us will see such a turn of events again. The modern era of sponsorship finally reached Borrowash in time for the 1977/78 season, Mr P Siddall a local building contractor. In exchange for bearing Siddall’s name on the shirts, Mr Siddall provided funds and a concrete floor in the equipment hut. The 1977/78 season also provided the club’s first major championship, the East Midlands Regional League Premier Division. However things looked dicey at the end of the 1980/81 season with a mass of resignations from the committee. As always The Vics pulled through and a face from today made his entrance to the stage. Ian Anderson turned from playing staff to president (and sponsor). The most challenging episode in the recent history of the club also happened under Ian’s reign. In 1983 the club were threatened with expulsion from the league due to settlement of a drain below the pitch making it unplayable. In those circumstances many a club has folded but The Vics rolled up their sleeves, repaired the pitch for the remainder of the season before moving to their new and current home, The Bowl. Trials and tribulations about the pitch however continued; none worse than when the landlord (the local leisure centre) allowed it to be used for horse riding during the County Show! This however did not prevent the highlight of the club’s history from occurring in the 1985/86 season.

IN OPPOSITION TODAY To mark the official opening of the changing rooms and floodlights, Brian Clough brought a full strength Nottingham Forest squad to The Bowl. The evening set new records including the highest ever attendance, an estimated two thousand supporters packing the banks. Unfortunately Borrowash Victoria cannot be graced by such crowds every week but a hardy one hundred supporters come along, whatever the weather. Clearly the club still holds a special place in the village community. On the field, The Vics joined the East Midlands Counties League as founder members for the 2008/09 season. This proved to be the first of many near-misses with promotion, with the side finishing second just three points adrift. 2010/11 was even closer, two points this time. 2011/12 second again but seven points adrift of a very good Heanor Town side. Last season saw several significant changes on and off the field. Ian Anderson stood down as Chair after over 30 years’ service; he does however remain on the committee. His successor is Frazer Watson and he has brought some new faces onto the committee and these changes have continued this season. At the end of the 2012/13 season Ian Collins, affectionately known as “Chunky” in footballing circles decided to part ways with the club and move on to pastures new. Long serving committee member John Bishop eventually moved with Chunky to Gresley FC. John Robinson, local resident and committee member took on the reins as secretary of the club under the football leadership of Kev Bunting. This move also reunited the Kellogg family with the club with Thom and brother Sam rejoining the club as player/assistant manager and player respectively. Two weeks into the season Kev sadly resigned due to personal issues, and like their farther Neil, the two brothers took charge of the first team. The 2013/14 season had ups and downs, with the club deducted three points for fielding an ineligible player, ultimately this had no effect on the promotion standings due to a loss of form at the tail end of the season. The high points of the season undoubtedly came in cup competitions, notably beating Belper Town and Chesterfield in the Derbyshire Senior Cup, only to succumb to a 6-0 defeat in the semi final to Glossop North End. Later in the season, due to Sam becoming a father once again he decided that he wished to take a back seat, and Thom enlisted the help of Dick Pratley for the end of the season, a move that was to become permanent for the 2014/15 season, along with the capture of Lee Barrow, with over 170 games experience in the Football league. Borrowash Victoria now has a successful junior setup with teams from Under 18’s down to Under 9’s. Last season those junior teams collected three major trophies and numerous other awards. It is from this young crop that the next generation of Vics will appear, following the example of former junior players who are now regular members of the senior squad.

ASHBY IVANHOE FC CLUB HISTORY Ashby Ivanhoe Football Club was founded in 1948 and play their home matches at the NFU Sports Ground, Lower Packington Road, Ashby de la Zouch in Leicestershire. This is the clubs new home from the beginning of the 2012/2013 season. Since being founded in 1948 up until the end of the 2011/2012 season the clubs previous home was at Hood Park also in Ashby de la Zouch. The club currently consists of four adult teams and a youth team. The first team play in the East Midlands Counties League, with the Reserves in the Leicestershire Senior League Premier Division. In the 2008/2009 season the club formed a Youth Team (Under 18’s) side who play in the Leicestershire Midweek Floodlit Youth League on Wednesday nights. A Sunday team was re-introduced for the 2012/2013 season and they play in the Burton Sunday League Division Three. For 2015/2016 a third Saturday side has been formed who will play in the North Leicestershire Football League Division One. The club also has 11 junior sides ranging from Under 9’s through to Under 17’s who play in the Burton Junior Football League, Tamworth Junior Football League and the Derby City League. The junior section came after the club merged with the David Hunt Soccer School at the beginning of the 2009-2010 season. In February 2004, Ashby Ivanhoe became an FA Charter Standard football club. The club is very ambitious and has plans to progress further up the league pyramid system. The club is run by an experienced management team and enjoys the support of some very prestigious commercial partners. Ashby Ivanhoe had one of their most successful seasons in 2010/11 as they completed a league and cup double by winning the Leicestershire Senior League by nine points and also lifted the Coalville Charity Cup for the very first time after producing a superb second half comeback to beat Bardon Hill 3-2 in the final. They have also reached successive Leicestershire Senior Cup finals in 2011/2012 and 2012/2013 but had to settle for runners-up on both occasions losing 3-1, firstly to Ibstock United and then Aylestone Park. The 2013/2014 season saw the first team achieve a long-term ambition as they won promotion into the Step 6 East Midlands Counties League for the 2014/2015 season after finishing third place in the Leicestershire Senior League. It was a close title race with the top three all finishing level on points with Ashby third on goal difference. The Reserves were also promoted to the Leicestershire Senior League Division One. 2014/2015 saw Ashby compete at Step 6 of the non-league pyramid for the first time and they had a very good season and secured a top six finish in the East Midlands Counties League which featured victories against all of the sides above them. The Reserve side were involved in a tight title race and it went down to a last day decider against Lutterworth Athletic Reserves but despite the result going against them on the day they were still promoted for the second season in succession and will play at Step 7 in the Leicestershire Senior League Premier Division for 2015/2016.
