EDITORS WELCOME Good evening and welcome to tonight’s Buildbase FA Vase 2nd Qualifying Round Replay against Stone Old Alleynians and may I extend a warm welcome to the players, supporters and officials of Stone Old Alleynians and hope that you enjoy your visit to the NFU Sports Ground. Firstly may I thank all the spectators who joined us on the jolly boys outing to Stone for the original tie on Saturday and others who made their own way to the match. Despite the match not being the greatest we will see this season it was still a great day out. Let’s hope we do well tonight to progress (it would be the furthest we have got in the competition if we do) and dependent on the draw another jolly boys outing could be just around the corner. The draw for the first round had yet to be made as this programme went to print so if we do progress then please check the website, twitter and facebook for details of the next round. The date of the next round is scheduled for Saturday 22nd October. Since the last home match the first team have secured three straight victories including two at teams Ashby had never won at before. The last home fixture saw a 3-2 victory over Kimberley Miners Welfare before South Normanton Athletic (2-0) and Gedling Miners Welfare (1-0) were beaten on their own patch. This lifted us up to ninth in the table in what is becoming a tightly contested league and over the coming weeks there are games scheduled for Saturday’s and midweek matches as well so come and support the team if you can. A full list of fixtures for the 1st team can be found on page 8 of this programme. Leicestershire Challenge Cup Draw The draw for the first round of the Leicestershire Challenge Cup has been made in the last couple of weeks with Ashby being drawn at home against last season’s East Midlands Counties League Champions St Andrews with the match being arranged for Tuesday 25th October, 7:45pm kick off. FA Youth Cup Last Wednesday many of you would have seen the youth team play Alfreton Town Youth in the 2nd Qualifying Round of the FA Youth Cup. Unfortunately class eventually told and the visitors ran out 6-1 winners but Ashby were still in the game until the final ten minutes with the final scoreline being harsh on the effort put in by the team. Thank you again for your support and let’s hope we all enjoy tonight’s match Matthew Lester Programme Editor

LATEST MATCH ACTION STONE OLD ALLEYNIANS

ASHBY IVANHOE
AFTER EXTRA TIME THE BUILDBASE FA VASE 2ND QUALIFYING ROUND SATURDAY 24TH SEPTEMBER 2016 _______________________________________________________________________________________ ASHBY IVANHOE LINE-UP: Luke Hemingway, Jack Ryder, Evan Cawley, Chris Nettel, Tom Rowell, Joe Stubbs, Luke Thorogood, Chris Waldrum, Dan Stevenson, Royce Turville, Nick Sewell SUBSTITUTES USED: Ben Betteridge, Yasonama Bodri, Kerr Horn GOALS: Ben Betteridge (90+4) ATTENDANCE: - 65 _______________________________________________________________________________________ Ashby Ivanhoe and Stone Old Alleynians couldn’t be separated after 120 minutes of action on Saturday resulting in tonight’s replay following a 1-1 draw. In a poor game the home side took the lead with a well struck effort into the top corner. Ashby pushed throughout the second half before finally levelling with the last action of the match three minutes into stoppage through Ben Betteridge. Both sides had chances in extra time but neither could net a decisive winner. It was the home side who started the match the better side and the first chance came on four minutes when a cross from the left resulted in a shot which cleared the bar but just four minutes later they were in front when another cross this time from the right saw a powerful strike fly past Luke Hemingway and into the top corner. It took a while for Ashby to get themselves into the match but they had the final two chances of the first half as they looked to level the scores. The first chance saw a ball forward from Luke Thorogood headed on from the edge of the area which found Nick Sewell but his lofted effort went past the keeper and also narrowly wide of the far post. The second chance came a minute before the break when a free kick from Thorogood from around 25 yards was sent low towards the bottom corner which forced the Stone goalkeeper into making a save down to his left to turn the ball around the post. Ashby had the first chance of the second half when a through ball from Royce Turville found Sewell but his long range effort was over the bar and the remainder of the second half saw Ashby continue to pile on the pressure but without reward and just as it looked as it wouldn’t be their day in the fourth minute of stoppage time they found an equaliser. The ball was struck down the right flank for Kerr Horn to run onto and after getting into the area he pulled the ball back into the centre for Ben Betteridge to run onto and fire Ashby level and send the match into extra time. Extra time saw Ashby look more threatening and they had two very good chances at scoring a decisive goal. The first came right at the end of the first period of extra time when Sewell was put through by Turville only to see his lobbed effort take a deflection which put the ball narrowly over the bar. Sewell then had another chance at the start of the second 15 when he chased down a forward ball and pressurised the Stone keeper into making a mistake but his effort at goal was blocked by a defender. The final minute of extra time brought another great chance of a goal this time for the home side who were awarded a free kick on the corner of the area to the right and the ball was played to the back post where it was headed back across goal towards the far post and a player couldn’t quite stretch far enough to force the ball home instead seeing the ball go skywards from close range and with that chance gone the match was drawn.

IN OPPOSITION TODAY STONE OLD ALLEYNIANS Stone Old Alleynians Football Club was founded in 1962 by Dave Bonnet, a teacher at and former pupil of Alleynes Grammar School, Stone. The Club received a donation from the Old Alleynians Society to purchase shirts and pay League Fees etc. They entered the Stafford Amateur League [later to become the Mid Staffs League] Division IV and due to the terrible winter of 1963 league fixtures were not completed and there was no promotion or relegation. In 1964 they were runners up and promoted. They also reached the final of the Staffs FA Presidents Cup, losing to Division I Champions Kingston YC at Stafford Rangers. The following season they came third in Division III and were promoted to Division II. Season 1965-66 saw the Club win its first silverware by becoming champions of Division II. Honours became harder in Division I and the only other notable success was defeating local rivals Stone St Michaels in the Final of the Stone Charity Cup in 1969. The 1970’s were the golden years starting in season 1971-72. That season they became Division I Champions by 2 points, winning their last 6 games. Between 1972 and 1979, Stone Old Alleynians were Division I Champions 3 times and Borough [Div I] Cup winners once and runners up twice. They also won the Stafford Pageant Cup twice and were runners up twice. Another success was the Stone Charity Cup, winning it 3 times and beaten finalists once. The Old Alleynians joined the North Staffs Alliance League in 1980 with a second team entering the Mid Staffs League Division II, of which they became champions. In season 1981-82 third place was achieved in the North Staffs Alliance League and beaten finalists in the League Cup. The Uttoxeter Cup was also a good venture, being runners up in seasons 1981-82 and 1983-84. The second team also won the Mid Staffs Div II Cup and were runners up in the Pageant Cup in season 1983-84. Having been relegated to Division I in the Staffs Alliance when the league was split into 2 divisions, a Premier and Div I, they came back in 1988, by being Division I runners up. Seasons 1992 to 1995 saw the Old Boys with teams in the Staffs County League and the Staffs Alliance, the club having to change the second team name to Alleynians FC due to Alliance League rules. With the demise of the Alliance League, the first team were in the Staffs County and the second in the Leycetts Leagues between 1995 and 1999. The second team was then dropped with the firsts continuing in the Staffs County, the only success being beaten finalists in the Bourne Sports Trophy in 2005. The club entered Division II of the West Midland League, with a second team in Division II of the County League in 2007. The First Team reached the final of the Staffs FA Challenge Cup but were beaten by Kidsgrove Athletic at the end of the 2009/10 season. They were promoted to the West Midland League Division 1 the same season. In the season 2014/15 the first team were runners up in WMRL Div 1 and promoted to the Premier Division. They also had success in the JW Hunt Cup where they lost the final, at Molyneux, to Tividale [who were 3 levels above them in the pyramid] after extra time and defeated a couple of higher level teams to reach the semi-final of the Staffs FA Vase losing to WMRL Premier Div champions Sporting Khalsa, by the only goal. 2015-16 saw Stone Old Alleynians consolidate their place in the West Midlands Premier Division, finishing in 14th position with 58 points. The club will now be looking to build on that and will be aiming to finish high enough in the league to be considered for entry into the FA Cup at sometime in the near future.

ASHBY IVANHOE FC CLUB HISTORY Ashby Ivanhoe Football Club was founded in 1948 and play their home matches at the NFU Sports Ground, Lower Packington Road, Ashby de la Zouch in Leicestershire. This is the clubs new home from the beginning of the 2012/2013 season. Since being founded in 1948 up until the end of the 2011/2012 season the clubs previous home was at Hood Park also in Ashby de la Zouch. The club currently consists of four adult teams and a youth team. The first team play in the East Midlands Counties League, with the Reserves in the Leicestershire Senior League Premier Division. In the 2008/2009 season the club formed a Youth Team (Under 18’s) side who play in the Leicestershire Midweek Floodlit Youth League on Wednesday nights. A Sunday team was re-introduced for the 2012/2013 season and they play in the Burton Sunday League Division Three. For 2015/2016 a third Saturday side has been formed who will play in the North Leicestershire Football League Division One. The club also has 11 junior sides ranging from Under 9’s through to Under 17’s who play in the Burton Junior Football League, Tamworth Junior Football League and the Derby City League. The junior section came after the club merged with the David Hunt Soccer School at the beginning of the 2009-2010 season. In February 2004, Ashby Ivanhoe became an FA Charter Standard football club. The club is very ambitious and has plans to progress further up the league pyramid system. The club is run by an experienced management team and enjoys the support of some very prestigious commercial partners. Ashby Ivanhoe had one of their most successful seasons in 2010/11 as they completed a league and cup double by winning the Leicestershire Senior League by nine points and also lifted the Coalville Charity Cup for the very first time after producing a superb second half comeback to beat Bardon Hill 3-2 in the final. They have also reached successive Leicestershire Senior Cup finals in 2011/2012 and 2012/2013 but had to settle for runners-up on both occasions losing 3-1, firstly to Ibstock United and then Aylestone Park. The 2013/2014 season saw the first team achieve a long-term ambition as they won promotion into the Step 6 East Midlands Counties League for the 2014/2015 season after finishing third place in the Leicestershire Senior League. It was a close title race with the top three all finishing level on points with Ashby third on goal difference. The Reserves were also promoted to the Leicestershire Senior League Division One. 2014/2015 saw Ashby compete at Step 6 of the non-league pyramid for the first time and they had a very good season and secured a top six finish in the East Midlands Counties League which featured victories against all of the sides above them. The Reserve side were involved in a tight title race and it went down to a last day decider against Lutterworth Athletic Reserves but despite the result going against them on the day they were still promoted for the second season in succession and will play at Step 7 in the Leicestershire Senior League Premier Division for 2015/2016.
