The Kate Williams Quartet

The Man Who Woke Up Dead

Kate Williams is a pianist, composer and arranger whose main influences are Bill Evans, Ravel and Debussy. She has won the John Dankworth Award for Talent Deserving of Wider Recognition.

A taut thriller, influenced by 1950s film noir, and the dystopian worlds of George Orwell. The Man Who Woke Up Dead is a dark, claustrophobic nightmare, akin to the thrillers of Alfred Hitchcock, exploring the divide between fact and fiction. When everything you believe is shown to be false, holding on to any kind of truth becomes a deadly game. Using their unique physical and cinematic style, Square Peg Theatre create an elegant, bold and beautifully choreographed world from the empty stage.

Her music has a keen harmonic sense and there are sometimes echoes of the cool jazz of the 1950s. Her current quartet includes Oli Hayhurst on double bass, Tristan Mailliot on drums, and Alex Garnett on tenor saxophone, and tonight you will hear some languid relaxed interplay between sax and piano, as well as some music that swings. www.kate-williams-quartet.com Thu 16 Oct, 8pm £12.50 (£10.50) Studio Genre: Music

A New Musical

Frankenstein, A New Musical is a faithful yet innovative adaptation of Mary Shelley’s classic novel. A brilliant young scientist creates life in an abhorrent form. Whilst he descends dangerously close to madness, the creature he has created gains knowledge and understanding. Only when it’s too late do they both begin to learn acceptance of each other.

The classic tale brought to life by students of Wellingborough Senior School in this spectacular production. Not to be missed! A musical by Alain Boubil and Claude-Michel Schonberg. School Edition specially adapted and licensed by Josef Weinberger Ltd on behalf of Music Theatre International and Cameron Mackintosh Ltd.

Beauty in nature

Emotions

This exhibition is a varied collection of styles and medium illustrating Sally’s love of nature. Using watercolours, acrylics and oils she finds inspiration from the scenery and flowers around her both in Northamptonshire and on her travels.

Sally works in a variety of mediums to create different textures and effects, often using recycled or natural materials. Her fresh approach is quirky and individual, creating statement pieces in jewel colours. The slate art uses reclaimed Welsh slates to create bold, contemporary semi- abstract work evoking moods and emotions and the sculptural wall art incorporates clay men depicted climbing the wall in a dynamic, fun way!

“My aim is to create individual pieces that reflect beauty, colour and expression in a contemporary and quirky way.” Sally Pennycate

Michael and Margaret Leaman Diversity With a background in graphic design and publishing, Michael uses his skills to develop different painting styles and techniques, including papercraft, to produce a diverse range of images. “I explore mixed media techniques to develop texture and tone in my paintings which are not only inspired by natural objects such as butterflies and insects but contrast with busy town landscapes.” Michael Leaman

Margaret trained as an illustrator and experiments with a range of media to produce landscapes, seascapes and portraits. “I enjoy using my illustrative skills to develop ideas. I love mixing colour for harmony and effect, and my particular favourite is portraiture in pastels. Our work is quite diverse because there is so much to explore.” Margaret Leaman
