MEET CHLOE WRITTEN BY: A.G.LE
Dallas has been the 'hidden gem' that creatively intrigued people have been eyeing for years. It’s a big and beautiful city with lots of talented, rich cultured, entrepreneurial and inspiring young adults that have mainly been recognized in the underground scene. Over the passed two summers there has been a silent yet increasingly loud roar of awakening and initiative within the young community. And artist like Chloe are shaking up Dallas in a way that won’t be missed. I was given the privilege to meet up with Chloe, the creative mind behind FREE VIBE entertainment, and singer/song writer for her newest EP; Notes to gain a deeper insight on who she is.

A: ‘So we are here with Chloe..’
A: So what city did you grow up in?
Chloe: Chloe: “Yes! And how the explicit language are you?? [Ha-ha-ha!]!”
Chloe: “I’ve bounced all over the place. So, born in Dallas (aye), lived in Garland for a good stent of time ... and now I live in Richardson/North Dallas.”
A: ‘Ha-ha, it’s nice to see you too Chloe; let’s begin with the first question of the evening! Would you consider yourself an artist or a musician?” Chloe: “ I would consider myself more or so Chloe: an artist, just because I don’t like to box myself into ‘I’m a musician...so I do music only”. Even though this may come off as a little cliché, people already put enough labels on what you are, and what you do – so I would consider myself an artist, because that title makes ‘who I am and what I do’ a little more broad. Obviously music is my shit, but I like to do more than one thing. Everybody has multiple things that they do–that they create; everybody is an artist.. A: So what makes you go specifically into the avenue of music? Chloe: I feel all the other things that I like Chloe: to do, but I just so happen to relate with music more so than the other ones. Like, the most important thing when it comes to music or creating is I need to have a feel, there needs to be an aesthetic that comes off of whatever is going on. And with music there are layers. A: Who did you grow up listening to in the A: music art world & how have they impacted you as an artist? Chloe: “I grew up around a lot of ‘’older Chloe: people’ – so I was exposed and put into a position where I would listen to all types of stuff like older music. So people from the rock world – like; STICKS, the BG’s, Tupac, Biggie (obviously) The D.O.C., Lauren Hill, and Beyoncé (of course) you know. Just a lot of different artist, and a lot of different genres have influenced me.
A: Do you want to be a celebrity or achieve that type of fame; what’s your end goal? Chloe: “It’s like a love hate relationship. I think we all like attention, so apart of me wants like ‘O-M-G I really mess with her!” Like people to be talking-about-me in that sense. But, then the other part of me is kinda private with certain facets of my life towards people that I don’t know. So that’s why I’m kinda like “mmm, Nahh”. I don’t want to say I want to be a celebrity cause I want to be known for like my creative side. One thing that’s a pet peeve of mine is when an artist is known more for their celebrity fame than they are for their actual talent. Like, that really bothers me. A: Could you give us an example? Chloe: (Hahaha) Nah Man. A: You don’t wanna be messy [ha-ha]? Chloe: Chloe: Nah (haha), I’m not messy. Get your money, get it how you live. What they do, is what they do. A: So you’re not looking to be a celebrity you’re looking to be known for your music. Chloe: Chloe: Yeah, I’m not looking to be a celebrity, but I know that the more I get known the more I’m going to become more of a celebrity. Like I was saying, everybody likes attention so there’s going to be times where I’m like ‘yeah! Aye!’ but other times I’m gonna be like ‘ man I fucking hate this’.

A: In the midst of your mess, what keeps you calm? Chloe: “Prayer, to be honest –I mean that’s what helps me the most, and that’s the foundation. Which is something that I’m very thankful to have a foundation in. Not many people grow up with a foundation in Christ, or a foundation in faith. And I’m lucky to have that at the core; I’m thankful A: What keeps you going and remain inspired even on bad days? Chloe: “What keeps me inspired is knowing that I’m meant for something. Even when I get down, like ‘damn how am I going to get this done, or that done?’ I know that I’m supposed to be somebody. And that may sound arrogant, or whatever... but I just know that I’m a special person. I’m supposed to be somebody. I don’t think I’m supposed to be ordinary. I feel like if I was supposed to be ordinary then the thoughts in my head would be ordinary.
So even though all this other stuff comes in the way, like bad days, or overall bullshit-- it’s going to subside because if you’re supposed to be somewhere, you’re going to be there regardless. A: A How would you describe your style, and does music you’re currently listening to play an influence in your style? Chloe: Chloe: “My style is a little bit of everything --- I know I keep reiterating this, but it’s a mood; it’s an aesthetic. It’s all about expressing your feelings – I may feel boujie one day, so head to to toe I’m gonna be looking snatched. And another day I may be feeling laxed. For music it’s more so about the feeling I’m feeling from that certain song that makes me want to dress that way. --- if that makes sense. A: If you could describe your music using any food or flavor what would you choose? Chloe: Chloe: Pizza.

A: What type of person do yo picture when you think of someone listening to your music? Chloe: ““That’s the fun thing about it – like I picture different types of people, like obviously someone who ‘looks like me’; feels what I’m saying but then someone who looks nothing like me, or comes from nothing like me - like the same things as me. Even though everybody is different, we all experience sadness, happiness, whatever—anger, so I want my audience to be just the general public; for real. A: Why the title notes? Chloe: put together all the notes that I Chloe: I had in my phone over time I had been writing different things that just came to my head and it just happened to all work together. It was pretty cool how it all worked out...different lyrics ended up fitting with each other, and turned into songs. So that’s basically how notes started and why I called it [the EP] that cause that’s literally what it was. A: What can we as listeners look forward to A: getting a ‘taste’ of from your EP? Chloe: People can expect a lot of feels, a lot of vibes. And what I hope people take from it is just to listen to it, to just vibe with it. You know. Whatever they take from it, is what they take from it – I didn’t go into it with a certain intention, if anything hopefully you [the listeners] can relate to it, and if not you just gain a new perspective on a new situation [and for Chloe as an artist].

THE END Summer of 2015 was the first time I saw and met the artist Chloe performing soul filled musical covers of songs by artist like Sade, Sam Smith, Frank Ocean, and Lauryn Hill. Her voice, natural rhythm, and energy filled the atmosphere causing everyone to sing along and smile from ear to ear. It didn’t feel like enough time had been given by the time her performance came to an end; .and since that moment I was hooked. This summer, although I was excited to visit Dallas; the city of hidden gems – I was more excited to finally catch up with Chloe and see how she was doing ever since the last time I saw her perform. 'Notes' will be debut this summer, be sure to stay up to date with Chloe through her social media links at:
