our charity My wise grandmother once told me,
“when you can, give”. I know so many of us have been effected by Breast Cancer and always wanting to contribute to the cause. But if you’re like me, you question exactly where do these funds go towards? How much is actually given to research, programs, etc... My questions were answered from Carolina Breast Friends. Supporting our local charity, right here on E. Morehead Street, with an open door policy and warm hearts. Instead of sending money off to a research facility through a larger, international charity, their focus remains here, in our neighborhoods. A hands on approach on helping recently diagnosed women during their battle forming a forever sisterhood and being with them even after their recovery. So thank you to each and everyone of you for allowing us to GIVE to this beauitful and amazing charity. -Ash
For The Cause Proceeds from this year’s show will be given to the charity once more in effort to help their misssions in Charlotte and surrounding areas.

The Pink House... Soon after CBF began, so did the vision of creating the Pink House, a unique respite center for breast cancer survivors. The Pink House became a passionate and altruistic cause and today, with the dream a reality, the excitement continues. Inspired by CBF Founder Kristy Adams-Ebel, this vision became the passion of more than 200 Charlotte breast cancer survivors. At every stage of the journey—diagnosis, surgery, chemotherapy and radiation treatments, and living with metastasis, remission, or the fear of recurrence, —women who have walked the same path are available to provide support, encouragement, information, and assistance. The Pink House is a sanctuary for the hopeful transition to treatment and cure. As a one-of-a-kind, “one-stop shop,” the Pink House serves breast cancer survivors in numerous ways:
Wellness Education Library & Computer Research Center Healing Garden, Fitness& Nutrition Center Self-Image Services Arts & Crafts Workshop Counseling Services
How You Can Help Volunteer: We welcome everyone in our community, regardless of whether or not you are a cancer survivor, to volunteer at one of our many local events. We have a wide range of volunteer opportunities, from short one-time events to ongoing projects. We can match you with a volunteer job that will match your interests and available time. Contribute: CBF accepts donations year around. You can designate CBF as your charity if you donate to the United Way. We also encourage you to check with your employer regarding matching donations. Shop: One way CBF raises funds for Project Pink House is through the sale of Save The Ta-Ta’s Merchandise. Please email us at cbf@carolinabreastfriends.org to place an order. In addition, visit us at one of our local events. Fundraisers: Our fundraisers help support CBF’s member services, outreach projects and the Pink House. Visit our Fundraiser page to see how you can host your own fundraising event to benefit Carolina Breast Friends

Featured Collection: Krystyna’s Treasures
Siobhann studied fashion design during high school, she turned down a chance to attend the New York Institute of Design and enlisted in the Navy to follow a family tradition. Since life got in the way, fashion took a back seat and her mother Krystyna helped her recognize what it really meant to her in terms of looking to the past for inspiration. After working for several auction houses with appraisal as well as setting up vintage clothing and textile shows, she also worked with several Pin Up models behind the scenes and developed a fascination and appreciation for an elegance After the passing of her mother, Krystyna, in 2009, Siobhann stopped and literally closed up shop. She closed the store she shared with her mother and went to sell everything. Something came alive and spoke to her and Krystyna’s Treasures (named after her mother) was born in May of 2010. Since relocating to Charlotte in July of 2012, she has branched out to doing Pop up Markets and Antique Shows to highlight vintage fashion. Krystyna’s Treasures is available for photo shoots, vintage styling, historical consultation, restoration needs, Pin Up modeling classes and vintage clothing rentals. e v i s u l Entxecr view! I
Q: What is Plumeria & why did you name your collection after it? A.Plumeria is a flower that grows on trees in tropical areas. Its heady perfume transports you to warm sandy beaches, blue skies, and it is very calming. Q.What Inspired you to become a swimsuit designer? A. For me, the inspiration to create swimwear is what it represents. When I am designing, I am trying to capture the essence of fabulous weather, bright colours, fun with friends, relaxing on vacation. On my first trip to Costa Rica when I was 18, I found that the bathing suits I brought from Canada were not really suitable for swimming in tropical waters. The material wasn’t fast drying and there was always a lot of sand trapped in the bathing suit after swimming. So I started to look for alternatives. Now living in Spain, I spend 200 days a year in a bathing suit and summer wear, so it’s definitely part of my life.
Q: What are some of the upcoming looks we can expect to see in the near future? A. Alongside more beach clothing, rompers, dresses and kaftans, I am creating a line specifically for water sports, suitable for summer, spring and winter. Personally, I have found it really hard to find stylish apparel in this area. I am also in the process of making a Cruise Collection.
About The Designer Gabrielle Cimon was born and raised up in Canada, studying set and costume design for theatre in College. Traveling to Europe and South America for a year before spending three years working in the social media & marketing aspect of the business is when she decided to turn her passion into a career by designing her own line; Plumeria. For a kick booty workout, try the following routine: 10 burpees, 30 second planks hold, 20 lunges (10 each leg) 30 second side plank (each side) Repeat all 3 times .. Feel the burn!
Model and fitness expert, Anji Paumier; NSCA certified personal trainer and USAW Sports Performance Coach, has put together a workout for us here in the Queen City. Try these four mini routines for a flatter belly, total body tone up, and a quick metabolism booster. Try doing one a day to be toned in time for summer!
Burpees Targets Whole Body The move strengthens your whole body and can spike your heart rate for a good calorie burn. Jumping also builds bone density. Use the 4 count system for Burpees: Begin in a standing position. Drop into a squat position with your hands on the ground. (count 1) Kick your feet back, while keeping your arms extended and come into a plank hold (count 2) Immediately return your feet to the squat position. (count 3) Jump up from the squat position extend arms over head (as in the picture) (count 4) Be sure to keep core engaged so that your low back doesn’t sag in the plank position. For an extra challenge you can perform a quick pushup from plank before you jump up.
Lunges Targets Core and Legs Stand with your feet shoulder’s width apart. Step forward with one leg into a wide stance without loosing your balance and keep your shoulders over your hips and the core engaged
Plank Hold Targets Abs
Side Planks Targets Whole Body & Core
The move strengthens the upper body and the core. Place your hands on the ground about shoulder width apart and feet about hips distance. Pull your belly button towards your spine and push into the ground to engage your core. Variations on the move can be to lift one hand (right) or lift one hand and the opposite foot (left)
Starting in a plank position (see above) Slowly open your body to one side reaching your arm up above you and stacking your feet. Be sure to keep your hips up and your shoulder over your hand. This can also be performed on a bent elbow if shoulder pain is an issue.
Bend your knees to a 90 degree angle. Your front knee should not extend over your ankle, and your back knee should hover above the ground. Keep your weight in your heels and squeeze your glutes.
For a challenge, one foot can be lifted off the other.
Staying tall through the lunge will keep your core engaged and your balance will be improved.
Be sure to keep your core engaged, low back flat and hips level to the ground.
Then step back up to starting position. Repeat on both sides.
