Happy 2017 everyone! I hope you all had a restful break from school and work during the holiday season. I definitely had a unique holiday break spent in the Philippines. Of course, the holiday break cannot keep us Key Clubbers from serving, so thank you to those Key Clubbers who continued to serve through gift wrapping, helping Santa, volunteering at food drives. January is a month full of new faces, new opportunities, and new events! This Saturday will be the 2017-2018 Lieutenant Governor of Division 32 Election Rally. This is a very important event to determine whose hands our division will be in for the next service year after DCON 2017. Speaking of DCON 2017, there’s only 80 days left! Be sure to be timely and prompt with your payment and all your required registration papers so your club officers are able to send in the registration on time before February 1, 2017. Remember, the $100 late fee is equivalent to buying 63 boxes of chicken nuggets from Burger King! That’s potentially 630 chicken nuggets. With the next couple months busier than ever, remember to stay on top of things and continue to do your best in school. At this point, it’s almost halfway through the year—halfway to freedom—and we’re pretty much all dead. BUT, now’s the time to continue striving towards those grades that you aspire to have. Now’s the time really prioritize your responsibilities whether it be between school, home, work, Key Club, sports, etc. Knowing that Key Club will not always be your 100% all the time is perfectly normal as we all need to balance our time between all the events happening in our lives. I’d also like to shoutout all the clubs who have held club elections already. Our new leaders are looking Proud N’ Willing to Serve for the next service year and I’m excited to see younger leaders grow! Speaking of that, my term is quickly ending in 2.5 months and someone new will be leading our division. Check out the Division 32 Election Rally information on page 12. Until then, watch out for the January DCM information posted on Facebook and emailed out. Hope you enjoy this newsletter!

Much love for my mom because we survived 35 hours of traveling with delayed flights together.
LETTER AND UPDA
Lieutenant
Many of you know I’ve been out of the country for the past month on vacation in the Philippines! To sum it up, I’d 10/10 go again because it’s a beautiful place with a wonderful culture—not to mention, I have a lot of family here so it’s was rarely a dull, boring time. I did feel homesick around week four, but now that I’m home, I want to go back. It’s really quite a mix of emotions, but alas, here I am in the States with the same time zone. Anyways, here are a few pictures from my vacation!

Why I Joined Key Club: A Novel by Amy Bender Coming in as a freshman to Kentlake High School, I was excited just to be with my friends at lunch, during class, and on sports teams. I would have never thought to join a club. All of my friends went to join Key Club and I went to tag along just to see what it was like. It was pretty interesting, everyone was so friendly and welcoming. It was really cool to see everyone act like a family. I went back for a second meeting and that’s when the community services options came about. I was like “what?!” that doesn’t sound exciting. Boy, was I wrong. Things as simple as planting trees for the environment, packaging food for food banks, and walking around to raise money for cancer can really help many people. As long as you are with your friends and having fun doing something good for others, it’s totally awesome. Knowing that I am making a difference in the community makes me come back to Key Club happier and more proud every day. Two years later, I have been to one DCON, I am Junior Class Representative, and attending DCON 2017. I think Key Club has raised me well. It turned me into a much better person and learning to see others perspectives in many ways. I love Key Club and I hope you do too. @bender_amy
