A butterfly

As a raw butterfly, I float at home In the time of the kitchen Cutting a piece of it for poetry that is beyond curtain Nobody knows that a poem melted down from me Whereas washing dishes A storm of words swept me while cooking okra I sometimes, don't have any explanation for the momentum covering me while grilling fish

Like pendulum, the stanzas vibrate in my head I want them likewise, swinging and stressing Not to be polished by the vapor of frying and the smell of cleaning powders May I wrap them in a towel, not to be wet by moisture while cooling in the fridge Scarcely, I hurried to write down my stanzas That spouts from the kitchen, on the mobile notes

9

When my home day ends, I look at the mirror Touching my eyelashes, eyes, lips and my roses So, I have rapture from my lissome completion

The idols of poetry that tempted me at the kitchen, Lurks in my braid and refuses to get out I try to remember but in vain, as if fell in the soup plate Of my husband who swigged it saying: Explain to me why some of your food is more delicious than others

In other times, He winks me flirting at the mirror Pulling out the poetry stanzas from my hair Printing them with his music on my lips Then, I want to step to complete the poem.

SILENT CRY

Encapsulate my voice in a genie bottle erase my touch from your skin. Muffle the sound of my ravenous music. What are those mystery black-dressed ghosts? Buried canopy forests full of crawling spellings. Thrashed words which really die! I roam being a prey for the servants of the One! Engulfing flames in my mind, I cannot find my desires! 13

Barrage of bullets of a fierce wind kills my loneliness. Feel annoyed of darkness. I locked my bliss in a coffin, want to kill my zest with a spear. My pain suffers from people’s arrogance. Twigs cover the moonlight. my words are kept under surveillance. No mercy to the enemy of virtue!

Pygmalion and Galatia

Once upon a time of myths, there lived a man, by the name Pygmalion. He was a king in Cyprus and very good at that, but most of all, he was a great sculptor.

He could take a piece of stone and with his fine chisel, he could turn it, into a form of god, into a great hero or to a pretty girl. Many homes of influence , in this Greek Cultured land, were proudly decorated 21

with Pygmalion’s fine art.

Once, he took a boulder of marble, pure and white, and chiseled it with love, with patience and zest, to create his perception of the perfect woman. Out of this fine marble, came the image of a girl, in perfect grace and beauty. The artist faced the statue, with great admiration; he had made his perfect woman. He felt his heart pounding like he had never felt before. He touched her face with tenderness and name her Galatia. He fell whole heartedly in love with his own creation.

22

Pygmalion started expressing his pure love to Galatia. He picked flowers from the fields and placed them on her hands. He wove a pretty wreath and put it on her head. He caress her perfect face and beg her to respond to his loving words: “my sweet Galatia, I am so deeply in love with you, open your eyes and look at me, spread out your arms and hug me.”

He went with great hopes, to Aphrodite’s temple, to pray to the Goddess who looks after all lovers. He put his precious offers, upon the temple’s altar, and he was praying faithfully 23

to goddess Aphrodite to give life to Galatia and make her love him too. As he was praying silently, he saw a spark of light, blinking upon the altar. He felt in was a sign that his beloved goddess will grand him his wishes. Pygmalion was amazed and run home to Galatia. He stood in front of the pure white statue and with a trembling voice, begun his loving plea: “my beloved Galatia my true love will transform you to a live woman with a compassioned heart.” As he was saying that while touching her stoned face, 24

he felt a tender warmth, and saw her eyes open, her arms extended to embraced, her talented creator. Exalted with a great joy, he wrapped his arms around her and kissed her tenderly. Their pure and perfect love made them a model couple living a happy life. Their union brought children which made their joy complete. They name their first born Paphos, a name that still exists in a town of Cyprus, -birthplace of Aphroditeto remind us all that true love can transformed even a marble statue into a loving woman. 25

Woman of passion and love I looked for you… Before God I allowed you to nude me,

to dig as deep as you could in case you felt I hid something from you.

Inside me you found spring and you cerebrated me passing by your life a dreamer and a romantic a hunter of your beauty and art, that was my love and my sacrifice for a human.

I searched for you, I remember, so you can live inside me 29

forever and immortally for justice as you were sculpted poetry tailored for me!

DON'T MENTION LOVE

Don't mention love, I'm afraid of it. I don't want to suffer anymore. Everything that once was has gone with the wind. I don't want to bring back the memory of it. Don't mention love, I don't want it anymore. It only creates pain. Don't mention love, I don't know what it means. Because of it, I got wrinkles on my face. Don’t mention love, God bless you! I don’ want to hear a word from it. I see the love in a different shape. For your love is poison. Don’t mention love, 41

Neither do you know what it means, If you knew it, you would build happiness. And now you want to come back. I don’t want that kind of love and I never will. Don’t mention love.

THE HANG OF LOVE The beggar sought love in the palace of Wealth but Arrogance and Fencing threw him out again out on the street But he found the truth when she returned in the poor alleys of Simplicity and Modesty in the souls of people of "give" without "receiving", away from the lie the interest, take it - give it Where love was nestled without limits and distances in the souls of the humble and the despised Where one could forbid them to see, to listen or speak 45

but not the freedom to love Where people They were not afraid of love They were God's people that they would not allow never to anyone to be defeated because they did not know what was the abstention or the escape from its truth The beggar found his hangout!

Cronos and the skinny lady dancing danzón She elegant, He nervous, sober, older, She smiling, He eager, wise, actor, And the ticking, between the two endless.

That tic tac never stops Dance to the rhythm of the danzón So full of mischief In ornament and transition, He loses her in his fine steps Conquer with attitude Taking her from the waist With warmth and neatness, She shows her blush The more he wants to keep dancing Forget her duties, entangled in the flowers, 49

Has succumbed to its charm And meanwhile to the jarochos, if they are on the boardwalk, Life and time are a gift!

Fell in love Your singing voice in your heart I heard from the way you stripped my face And the waves rolled the rhythm of the heart to the edge of the night

Shading My eyes couldn't be closed Your shadow was stoning Folding the night

Until I didn't realize it It was morning And I heard again

Your singing in your heart Made me even more naked Forced the soul to speak gently

Admitting honestly 57

I fell in love With your song without a tone Without a sound

I LIKE TO TELL YOU

I’d like to tell you, your queen I may be Your heart throne you save for me only Reviving love is full of the poetic taste of youthful prime The true, good, and beautiful I’ve sought for a long time

I’d like to tell you: millions of stars in the galaxy The brightest star must be me, oh, my honey! Though I’m so diminutive in the vast space In the dark night, you never mistake my place

I’d like to tell you: my love is naïve and innocent With a lot of dreams so passionate and ardent I long for my ambition under the immense sky A great love might melt my loneliness like ice

61

Which Eden garden? I still want to seek for the start The thousand-mile life road I keep my loyal heart I’d like to tell you: my true love is given obviously Though life is in the vicissitudes I keep my loyalty
