PROSPECTIVE CONSERVATIVE CANDIDATE ROBERT BARNES PUTTING FAILSWORTH FIRST Robert Barnes has been selected as your local Prospective Conservative candidate. Having worked in Local Government since 1986 he fully understands that local residents must be given high quality Council services at the lowest possible costs. Robert said “I have been active in my local community and have served on the Church Council for over 21 years. During this time I have chaired several committees which organised the churches renovation and its development as a community resource. I firmly believe that our communities in Failsworth deserve the best possible resources and facilities”. “I have seen how Failsworth has been let down by the Labour Party .

COUNCIL TAX FREEZE Your Conservative Councillors will make every effort for Council tax bills to be frozen for a year. The plans, designed to help families with the rising cost of living and encourage Oldham Council to be more efficient, will save a typical household around £70. A rise in Council tax this year would have hit the poorest hardest. For a typical pensioner, a third of the increase in their basic state pension has been eaten up in higher council tax. This kind of practical pledge by your Conservative Team and Councillors has been delivered on since we promised it in this year’s elections.

Cllr Paul Martin (Left) and Robert Barnes

Cllr Paul Martin said “ I was very pleased when Robert was chosen as our Conservative Candidate. He is an active member of his community who holds family values very highly. I will look forward to working with Robert and our Conservative Campaign team on local issues.” If you have any issues, then please contact Robert on 0161-684-7801

KINGSTON ROAD TO BE RESURFACED Residents of Kingston Road have long thought that theirs was the most pot holed road in Failsworth. Now their Conservative Cllr Paul Martin, and candidate Robert Barnes can tell residents that Kingston Road is going to be resurfaced in 2011.Cllr Martin explains "I have been asking the Highways Department for over 2 years now if there was any possibility of Kingston being repaired, it is in a terrible state. Finally I can tell residents that I have been assured that the work will start w/c 14th February 2011 weather Resurfacing of Kingston Road . permitting".

LOCAL & PROUD. PAUL MARTIN, PUTTING FAILSWORTH FIRST!

WORKING TOGETHER FOR A BETTER TOWN Following the local election in May, we took the decision to form a joint administration with the Liberal Democrats. Following negotiations with both the other parties, it was clear that forming a Conservative-Lib Dem coalition would be the best way forward to ensure that we could start to deliver our joint ambitions. We have agreed to make sure that your Council Tax bill does not rise in the coming year, and have increased the amount of money available to District Partnerships to strengthen local decision making. The exciting re-development of Failsworth District Centre goes on apace, and we can look forward to the arrival of the Metrolink, without the imposition of the congestion charge.

CONSERVATIVES WORKING FOR FAILSWORTH

“The path way off Ashton Rd East and Windsor Street”

Cllr Paul Martin along with prospective candidate Robert Barnes are working with local residents to help regenerate an area which has been blighted by anti-social behaviour. The area between Ashton Road East & Windsor Street had been attracting youths drinking and causing upset to residents. Working with the Council's Street Scene Department Cllr Martin has managed to get a wall demolished which youths were using as a seat to drink on. This has opened the area up considerably, trees have been cut back and graffiti removed from

nearby walls. Before the Spring it is planned to have the wooden fencing reinstated, planting done, and paths redefined. Conservative Spending year to date in Failsworth.  
