Welcome
to our club Good Evening and welcome to Profiles Park for this evenings North West Counties North tie against Bury AFC. First of all please let me thank, and give a huge welcome to all those whom have travelled from Bury to support your team, a lot has been said about the likes of Bury and Macclesfield being in the Counties, but for me it is absolutely outstanding. Not only have two towns got their football back, but it also gives an opportunity for a pay day for every other club in the divisions due to the numbers that travel and support, and due to the stature of the game itself. Its very proud to be part of your journey, and even more thanks for you coming to us on a Tuesday night. Yes I know that this isn't the actual Bury FC, but having spent time working in Bury myself, and having been to Gigg Lane in way over double figures over the years watching Wigan Athletic, I am absolutely made up and humbled how a town have rallied together and produced Bury AFC. I can only imagine how proud you all are, as even for a football fan like myself I even beamed with pride when you were formed, as I know only too well how football clubs can collapse with all that has happened at Wigan over the last few years.
first goal, either for us or the opponent, then once the opponent scores we roll over and let in two or three. Touch wood, Biggs and his backroom team have shaken this out of us in recent games and I am more than confident going into tonight's game despite the gap in places within the division. On that note I want to thank Biggs, Mouse, Adam and Ben for their commitment as a management team. Yes it's been a little bit of a roller coaster, but isn't all seasons in non league, but on paper I really do think we have the people to take this club forward. Biggs has rightfully been given his chance to return and lead the club, Mouse has returned following amazing experiences at Rylands and Rammy in between, Adam has evolved back to the smiling Adam, without the stress of being at the helm, and Ben has improved us between the sticks providing a 12th man at times behind the net.
As a Chairman within non league you can only dream of these fixtures. The professionalism shown by yourselves in our first fixture at Radcliffe, and simply playing in front of 1300 when we met in September Thank you again to all whom have was on another level. It was a proud day for attended today. I am sure you will enjoy us as a club despite the result. your time at Profiles Park, and huge thanks also to the Town fans whom stick Sadly our season has fell short of our start by us, and the Wigan Athletic fans who of season expectations, and we have now join us. had three managers at the helm since we started in August. When we did play you Enjoy the game, last was exactly how we have been most of the season. Hugely competitive until the Mark - Club Chairman

Notes from the MANAGER Good evening Well we finished the year on a really positive note with the local Derby win over St Helens Town AFC.
We know Bury will be a really tough game but it‟s a good test for us to see just were we are now at following our good run of results in December.
Andy has done a fantastic job with Bury so far this season and they have some really good and experienced lads in their side. Consequently they have only lost one game all season and coming off the back of three impressive wins they are currently in We started the game slow but really grew really good form. They are a hard working into it an felt it was a fully deserved win. We have had a few friendlies over the last side and like to press high which is similar to how we play so it should make for an couple of weeks to keep the lads ticking over and have put in some really impressive interesting game. performances which is pleasing.
I am confident if we match that workrate we will have the quality to get something from tonight’s game. With last Saturdays game called off due to the weather we acted quickly to get a game sorted for the lads so that we weren‟t going into tonight‟s game cold.
Thanks for your support once again. Biggs

HISTORY OF ASHTON TOWN a Ashton Town Association Football Club originally joined the Div 2 of the Lancashire Combination in 1903 and were promoted to Div 1 in their 1st season. However, quickly relegated back to Div 2 after finishing 16th. Towards the end of 1910/11 season the club withdrew from the league and fixtures were taken over by Tyldesley Albion. The Club was reformed in 1953 as Makerfield Mill FC and after a short spell in the Wigan Sunday School League. They played in the St Helens Combination League for three years before joining the Warrington and District Amateur League in 1958.
The founder was a persistent man named Derek „Mick‟ Mycock. In 1962 the Club was forced to move from its original ground at Windsor Road due to land development and it was at this point the Club name was changed to Ashton Town AFC. Home games were played on a public park pitch at Whithill Street Recreation Ground in
Bryn until 1964 when the Club purchased a piece of land at Edge Green Street which was previously the home of Stubshaw Cross Rovers.
This became the Club`s new home, and development of the ground began. In 1969 the Clubhouse was completed, and was opened by Liverpool and England star Roger Hunt. Then in 1975 the present dressing room facilities were built.

The formation of the North West Counties Football League 1982 saw Ashton Town join as founder members, and the Club has remained in the league ever since with the exception of season 1985-86, when they played in the Manchester League while essential ground maintenance work was carried out to bring the ground up to stringent ground grading requirements for the NWCF League. Throughout the years there have been many custodians of the club, owned by no-one, powered by volunteers. I‟ll surely miss out a host of names here but….Notable is the involvement of Jack Longstaffe, Pat Dooney, Barry & Sandra Longstaffe, Gordon Ellis, Les Bailey, Len Riley, Malcolm Magrath, Billy Pomfrett R.I.P 5/5/20 (right pic far right) and Jimmy Cahill (pic below far right). The latter two who have clocked up over a hundred years‟ service to Town and Jimmy is still here on a daily basis. In more recent times, Clare and James scenes painting, digging or mending often Horner made a massive boost to the club without the right resources for the with the long overdue formation of a Junior job…..it‟s people like this who really make a place what it is. So Many to mention, others to forget, but we are here and that wouldn‟t exist if it weren‟t for those who give up their time and effort to keep the club alive.

Our motto ...... „Onwards & Upwards‟, sums us up as we now strive for promotion.
HISTORY OF 3rd October was a poignant date with which the team take their first steps out on the grass at the Neuven Stadium. it was exactly a year to the day when volunteers at what was known as „Bury Phoenix Club‟ met for the first time. Held at the Stanley Conservative Club, a stone‟s throw from Gigg Lane, around 150 fans congregated to see if they could provide football for the town of Bury. As had been the case for the previous 134 years at that point. Most, if not all, hurting from a summer of anguish, and ultimately despair. Top-level football had ceased to take place in the town and there was little prospect of this changing any time soon. The aim following that meeting. To start a new club.
discussions chance to move forward. However, work in the background continued to ensure that the deadline for an application could be met. We conducted our first survey on fan-ownership, asking for feedback on the direction supporters wanted us to take, based on various financial models. Fundraising activities began a pace, with regular evening meetings at the Stanley Club and Rose and Crown pubs. Merchandise and community events, including support provided at the Saturday afternoon supporter gatherings, were proposed. Also, the first draft football club budgets were being developed, alongside work on possible ground-sharing arrangements with local nonleague clubs. As the month drew to a close, we also set up our first democratic vote to select our club name.
October 2019: The first meeting of Bury fans to discuss and build the organisation of those volunteering to help with this goal. Initially, fans who turned up were spoken to by members of LOFT (Leyton Orient Fans Trust) and the FSA (Football Supporters Association) on their experiences of creating a club from scratch. By the end of the evening, individual teams were created to cover the important sections of the football club. From finance to governance, commercial to media and legal matters too. To receive a league placement for the 2020/21 season, an application was required to be submitted in early December 2019. With the original club due in the high court, for the first of what turned out to be many appearances across the winter, and impending doom looming, our band of volunteers set to work. The clock was ticking. By the end of the month, our social media profiles and website were set up and starting to inform those on what we were doing and the steps required to move the project forwards
December 2019: With 58% of the supporter vote, our name was secured as „Bury AFC‟. A groundshare was agreed in principle and the application was ready to be submitted. It was sent to the Manchester FA on the 9th December. We were also present at the Town Hall meeting arranged by Forever Bury to inform attendees on our progress, alongside the plans presented for Bury FC. This was the first chance since the summer for supporters to listen to proposals for football in the town and ask questions of the various parties on the stage.
November 2019: As discussions with a consortium looking to save the original club developed, an initial „launch‟ of the football club was put on hold to give these
January 2020: The new year started with our first event, all the ticket proceeds from over 100 paying attendees at the „Arcade Club‟ day were donated to Bury AFC. The volunteer group gathered again for a meeting in late January for an update on progress and the North West Counties acknowledged that our application had been made and was being considered for inclusion in their leagues for the 2020/21 season. The first big step had been negotiated. February 2020: Volunteers arranged and offered support to the 'Evening with Derek Spence' night in early February in what ended up being quite a month for the coffers at the pubs close to Gigg Lane. Who’s played at edge green st Christopher Martin Casper was born in Burnley, Lancashire on 28th April 1975 he attended the town's St Theodore's RC High School and is the son of former Burnley forward Frank Casper. Casper joined Manchester United as a trainee in 1991 and played in their FA Youth Cup winning team a year later. When still only 17, he signed professional terms in January 1993, making his United debut in the League Cup game against Port Vale at Old Trafford on 5 October 1994. Casper was a product of the same United youth setup that sparked the highly successful careers of players such as David Beckham, Paul Scholes, Gary Neville, Phil Neville and Nicky Butt, who all spent a decade or more with the club, helping them win numerous trophies and also being regular members of the England national football team. Casper was also captain of the England youth team, and was a member of the European Championship winning side in 1993. He also appeared for the England Under 21 side in Toulon in 1996. Casper later had several spells on loan at Bournemouth and Swindon Town during the 1990s, but was unable to claim a regular place in the first team at Old Trafford and he was sold to Division Two side Reading in November 1998 for £300,000. Whilst playing for Reading against Cardiff City in a Division Two fixture on Boxing Day 1999
Casper suffered a double leg fracture. This was the last professional game that Casper, then aged 24, ever played, as he later announced his retirement the following year after failing to recover sufficiently from the injury. More than four years later, he secured undisclosed compensation in an out -of-court settlement with Richard Carpenter, the Cardiff City player whose tackle had caused his career-ending injury. He then went into management and took charge of Team Bath in 2002 before moving to Football League Two club Bury for three years. At the time, he was the youngest manager in the top four tiers of the English football league system. However, a run of poor form in 2008 led to his departure from Bury. Casper then took backroom jobs at Bradford City and Grimsby Town, before joining the FA Premier League as a club support manager. He is now sporting director at Salford City F.C. He appeared here at Edge Green Street back in May 2019 when he started alongside Manchester United‟s „Captain Fantastic‟ Bryan Robson in the Joseph‟s Goal Legends game against the Latics Legends side.

MATCH REPORT V st On Monday 27th December 2021 Town welcomed near rivals St Helens to Profiles Park for what promised to be a cracking Bank Holiday Festive Derby Derby game.
Coming on the back of a resounding away Victory at St Helens ground sharing partners Pilkington FC, Ashton went into the game full of confidence but also wary of a much improved St Helens Town team who had also seen a turn around in fortunes during recent weeks and themselves came into the game on the back of an impressive away victory at Atherton LR. The game started in typical Derby fashion at 100 miles an hour with both teams giving it there all right from the off. Ashton had the better of the early few minutes exchanges and to be fair went behind against the run of play after only 8 minutes. The game then see-sawed from end to end
with neither team able to capitalise on chances created. That was of course until the 29th minute of the game when a sublime precision pass from Leon Wright sent Tyler Magee racing through one on one with the St Helens goalkeeper. Tyler was first to the ball and duly rounded the keeper, slotting the ball home to bring
Ashton level at one all. The purity only lasted a further three minutes though, when Town were awarded a free kick on near to the half way line just

t Helens town aFC in front of the visitors technical area. The free kick was quickly taken with the ball being rolled to Town right back jack Richards. Jack strode forward a couple of paces and the hit what can best be described as a speculative cross into the St Helens goal area. The visiting keeper rose unchallenged to collect the ball just under his cross bar.As he landed, however, the keeper inexplicably dropped the ball over his head and into the St Helens goal to give Town a two one lead. Jack Richards rightly laid claim to the goal, which as it transpired turned out to be the match winner, and after sever scrutiny from the „Dubious Goals” panel in the clubhouse post match, Jack was rightly credited with his goal. So Ashton went into the half time break one in front, a lead that they maintained for the duration of the second period. During the second half the game did start to get a little niggly with unnecessary and petulant

fouls being committed by both sides, many of which it has to be said were not dealt with by the match referee with the game threatening to spiral out of control at times. Order was maintained however and Ashton hung onto their slight advantage to successfully see out the game two one winners and thereby completing a double over St Helens sides much to the delight of Chairman Mark Hayes whose pub is located very near to the Ruskin Leisure home ground of both Pilkington and St Helens Town. Post match deliberations to choose a man of the match for Ashton were tough as all the lads dug deep and put a shift in on the day but the winning player of the day was Scorer of our first goal Tyler Magee, his third goal in his last three starts up front for the team.
FOOTBALL BOOK REVIEW When it comes to advice on the pitfalls of life as a professional footballer, Paul Merson is the man to ask and he has tried to cover them all in this book, first published in March 2011. This autobiography is both funny but is also an anecdote-driven narrative of the classic footballer's „DOs and DO NOTs‟ from the ever-popular Arsenal legend and football pundit, aka „The Merse‟. When it comes to advice on the pitfalls of life as a professional footballer, Paul Merson can pretty much write the manual. In fact, that‟s exactly what he‟s done in this book which manages to be simultaneously poignant and yet funny too.

OUR CHOSEN CHARITY Joseph‟s Goal is a Wigan-based charity, ran by a small group of family and friends who all volunteer their services. The charity has received support from Wigan Council, Wigan Warriors and Wigan Athletic, as well as schools, local organisations and the business community. Joseph‟s Goal have raised most of their funds through charity balls, football matches, bike rides, marathons and 10-Ks, swimathons, spinathons, Xmas jumper days, numerous other fundraising events, and hundreds of donations from generous people. Ashton Town AFC now host an annual charity legends football match, after the huge success of the inaugural match in May 2015, with the Latics Legends thumping a Hollyoaks XI 10-0 with a sensational performance. Town chairman, Mark Hayes was touched by Joe‟s story and has been actively involved in the charity‟s fundraising efforts for several years. This years event is the fifth annual Joseph‟s Goal legends game and is set to be another classic with the likes of Bryan Robson, Emmerson Boyce and Arjan De Zeeuw gracing the Ashton Town turf. Since Josephs story was shared publicly, the 10-year-old has become a little star in the local area and recognised throughout the United Kingdom for his fantastic story in defying
