Welcome to our club Good afternoon and welcome to Profiles Park for this afternoons North West Counties North tie against Campion. Campion are one of the unknown to myself and the division, however I hope and trust that they have had a safe journey from Bradford. They have had a mixed start, starting off slow but having a fantastic September and October, and it's sure to be a tough test today. May I take this opportunity to praise the job that both Adam and Muzza are doing for us, since taking the helm of the first team they have been absolutely relentless in trying to find success and settle us after a manager departure. Yes we have had a disappointing couple of results in Bacup and Steeton, however against Garstang we were much much better and very unlucky not to come out with the 3 points. Maybe lady luck wasn't with us with us hiting the woodwork so many times, and on a different day it would have been a very well deserved victory.
What was amazing to see at Garstang was the away following, and huge thanks to the Wigan fans who joined us for their first Ashton Town away jolly boys outing. Your support really has made a difference this season chaps, thank you so much.
Thank you again as always for your support., it truly does mean a hell of a lot to have you as out 12th man and here's to hopefully getting a deserved 3 points. Stay safe, Mark - Club Chairman - Ashton Town AFC

HISTORY OF ASHTON TOWN as Ashton Town Association Football Club originally joined the Div 2 of the Lancashire Combination in 1903 and were promoted to Div 1 in their 1st season. However, quickly relegated back to Div 2 after finishing 16th. Towards the end of 1910/11 season the club withdrew from the league and fixtures were taken over by Tyldesley Albion. The Club was reformed in 1953 as Makerfield Mill FC and after a short spell in the Wigan Sunday School League. They played in the St Helens Combination League for three years before joining the Warrington and District Amateur League in 1958.
The founder was a persistent man named Derek „Mick‟ Mycock. In 1962 the Club was forced to move from its original ground at Windsor Road due to land development and it was at this point the Club name was changed to Ashton Town AFC. Home games were played on a public park pitch at Whithill Street Recreation Ground in
Bryn until 1964 when the Club purchased a piece of land at Edge Green Street which was previously the home of Stubshaw Cross Rovers.
This became the Club`s new home, and development of the ground began. In 1969 the Clubhouse was completed, and was opened by Liverpool and England star Roger Hunt. Then in 1975 the present dressing room facilities were built.

Other volunteers to mention are Steve, Stefan, Denise, Ian, Dawn, Peter, Clare, Joanne and more recently, Keith whose dedication and work rate is second to none on quite often a day-to-day basis. It would go amiss if I didn‟t mention at this point Brian Cunliffe (pic below), who has on and
The formation of the North West Counties Football League 1982 saw Ashton Town join as founder members, and the Club has remained in the league ever since with the exception of season 1985-86, when they played in the Manchester League while essential ground maintenance work was carried out to bring the ground up to stringent ground grading requirements for the NWCF League. Throughout the years there have been many custodians of the club, owned by no-one, powered by volunteers. I‟ll surely miss out a host of names here but….Notable is the involvement of Jack Longstaffe, Pat Dooney, Barry & Sandra Longstaffe, Gordon Ellis, Les Bailey, Len Riley, Malcolm Magrath, Billy Pomfrett R.I.P 5/5/20 (right pic far right) and Jimmy Cahill (pic below far right). The latter two who have clocked up over a hundred years‟ service to Town and Jimmy is still here on a daily basis. In more recent times, Clare and James off, over the years worked behind the Horner made a massive boost to the club scenes painting, digging or mending often with the long overdue formation of a Junior without the right resources for the job…..it‟s people like this who really make a place what it is. So Many to mention, others to forget, but we are here and that wouldn‟t exist if it weren‟t for those who give up their time and effort to keep the club alive. Our motto ...... „Onwards & Upwards‟, sums us up as we now strive for promotion.

HISTORY OF Based at the Manningham Mills Sports Association on Scotchman Road in the shadow of the iconic Lister’s Manningham Mills Campion F.C. are perhaps the most successful amateur team over recent years to hail from Bradford. Since the turn of the decade the club has won various cups with the 2006/7 victory in the WRCFA Challenge Cup final undoubtedly being the highlight. Formed in 1963 by Michael Mahoney, taking its players from the members of St Edmund Campion Youth club, in 1976 through Peter Kennelly the club was renamed Campion F.C. The club moved into open age football in 1975 entering the Bradford Sunday League 4th division and gained promotion over five years to the 1st Division. In 1976 the club entered the Red Triangle League a local Bradford Saturday League and after steady years of progress moved up to the Premier Division in 1979. The following season saw Campion lift the Premier Division league cup as well as finish runners up in the league. 1981 saw the clubs policy change to concentrate on Saturday football only as they entered the West Riding County Amateur League and in 1983 both its open age teams were in the W.R.C.A.F.L. Due to financial difficulties and the resignation of both the 1st and 2nd team managers along with the club secretary the club withdrew from the W.R.C.A.F.L. in 1985. Under new secretary Andy Shepherd the club re-formed and entered the premier division of the Red Triangle League for the 1985/86 season. The club were accepted again back into W.R.C.A.F.L. in 1986. Steady progress was made during the next few season‟s and by 1989 they were established in Division 2. At the start of the 1989/90 season former player Delroy Dacres was appointed manager in his first season in charge the Division 2 League and cup was won. This was followed by the Division 1 league and cup in 1992/93 bringing premier Division football to the club. The 1993/94 season saw the club‟s reserve side win the Division 4 championship under the guidance of Dave Simpson and Andy Smith. Since then the club has maintained steady progress and seen improvement both on and off the field of play. 2006 saw the club enter a new
era with the opening of a £1.5 million club house and community centre under the banner of Manningham Mills Sports Association of which Campion F.C. is a partner along with Manningham Mills Cricket Club (now sadly defunct and Heaton Juniors F.C. In 2007 Heaton Juniors changed there name to Campion Juniors in partnership which hopefully see more home grown players progress through the ranks. Since the year 2000 the club have won numerous cups missing out on the League title by 1 point in 2005/06 despite winning 20 league matches on the trot. The following season saw the club bounce back to lift the biggest prize in the clubs history when after going a goal down to League rivals and former County cup winners Golcar United goals by former Bradford City and Newcastle United player Des Hamilton and a last minute winner by Micky Burke saw Campion Lift the County Cup. Season 2007-08 saw Campion retain the W.R.C.A.F.L. Premier Division League Cup for the third year on the trot making it a total of 4 wins in last five years Campion have lifted the Bradford & District FA Cup four times in 2001 2010 and 2012 and 2016, with the reserve side winning the trophy in 2017. In 2011-12 the Reserves under the leadership of Howard Gordon won the W.R.C.A.F.L. Division Two championship following a run of 5 wins in the last 6 games saw them clinch the title by 3 points In 2013 Delroy Dacres announced that he was to retire as first team manager after 25 years in charge. Without doubt a larger than life character Delroy‟s booming voice could be heard from a long distance and many a player and referee will no doubt be glad not to be on the receiving end of Del‟s advice anymore at not only at Campion but other grounds throughout the league. James Bicknell took over as manager for the 201314 season which saw Campion lose their first game 5-0 to bitter rivals Tyersal, however progress was made during the season and the club finished third and also reached the League Cup final losing to League winners Overden WR. Following steady progress over the next season Campion again reached the District and League cup finals however both games were lost against Fields and Overden WR. In 2016 both the First team and Reserves made to the District FA Cup semi-final and were drawn against each other. Following a hard fought 90 minutes which saw the reserves leading at half

CAMPION AFC time the game went to penalties. It was the First team that held their nerve to win a place in the final. Once again Fields were the opponents for the second year running with Campion keen to avenge a County Cup defeat earlier in the season. Again after 90 minutes the scores were level however Campion won the penalty shoot out to see Bicknell lift his first trophy as Campion Manager. The club also formed an Under 21 team after a merger with Wibsey Lions under 18s which took part in the WRCFA floodlight league for the first time in the 2015/16 season. In December 2015 the Club committee made the decision to apply for Membership of the Toolstation NCEL. Following a lot of hard work the ground passed an inspection in March 2016 and was proposed for promotion by The FA in May 2016, and was duly elected in June at The Toolstation NCEL AGM. In August 2016 floodlights were erected at Manningham Mills as the club embarked on their debut season in The Toolstation NCEL. Under James Bicknell and his Assistant Hayden Lobley the club took many by surprize and were in contention for a play-off place all season however it proved to be a step too far and Campion ended the season in a highly creditable 8th place. The season also saw the U21‟s enter the Premier Division of the WRCFA Floodlight league and under the guidance of new Manager Louis Etienne aided by Chris Kay ended in third place, in a league which included teams from further up the nonleague ladder such as Halifax Town Harrogate Town Tadcaster Albion amongst others. Season 2017-18 saw the club enter The FA Vase for the very first time in which they lost to a last minute goal to Bedlington Terriers. The 2018-19 season saw the club finish in the highest league position ever when they were runners up to Division one league champions Grimsby Borough. However due to the strange decision made by the FA of one promotion spot available and Campion were denied promotion. What was perhaps more heart-breaking was the fact that only one point was required in the final game of season away to Grimsby Borough which ended in a 4-2 defeat which meant Grimsby won the league. A result of finishing second in the league means Campion will now enter The FA Cup for the first time in the clubs history. However the reserve team were able to bring some silverware home under the management of
pionafc.com
Louis Etienne & Damo Latif they gain promotion as League champions of Division Two in their debut season in the West Yorkshire Association Football League During the close season the club was delighted to announce that former Colne manager and vastly experienced Lee Ashforth was appointed as joint manager along with Bicknell. It‟s hoped that along with first team coach Marcus Mitchell this appointment will take the club that one step further and gain promotion that was so cruelly denied. The 2019/20 was as everyone knows declared “null & void with results expunged at the time Campion were sitting just outside one of the four promotion spots with games in hand and poised to make a charge but it was never to be. The start of the 20/21 season saw the club bring in coach Lee Burgess to assist the Management team. The season kicked off with a Local Derby against Albion Sports in the FA Cup and on a wet night at the Players Cars Stadium the visitor‟s returned home with a narrow 1-0 win, further disappointment (again) in the FA Vase followed after receiving a bye Sunderland Ryhope won 4-0 in Bradford. The league however was proving rather more successful and when the season finished again due to Covid the club sat second in the league behind Emley.
So we move on to the 21/22 season and a new era, new league new challenge. Following the restructure of the Leagues by the FA, a lateral movement means the club will be playing in the NWCFL. This somewhat surprising move for a club 2 miles from Bradford city centre in the heart of West Yorkshire, will see the club playing in a mainly Lancashire, Manchester, Cheshire and Merseyside based league! However the club are ready to embrace the challenge and hopefully make as many new friends as they did in the NCEL.

In August 1985 he joined Ipswich Town but made less than 30 first team appearances over the next three seasons. In July 1988 he moved back up north to join Wigan Athletic, ultimately becoming a resident of Ashton In Makerfield, which remains his home town to date. During the 1990–91 season he had a spell on loan with Mossley, playing three times before he returned to Wigan Athletic
and went on to make over 250 first team appearances. Rimmer later went on to play for Altrincham, where he played five times in the Football Conference during the 1996–97 season before finishing his career at Scarborough. From September 2009 to June 2010, Neill ran developmental programs for Lincoln Youth Soccer in Lincoln, Massachusetts in the United States and later he returned to work for the Wigan Athletic academy as a coach and ultimately as the clubs Media officer. In June 2017 Rimmer was appointed joint manager of Ashton Town alongside Dave Dempsey, a role which he ultimately was unable to take up fully due to his business commitments in the USA but he remains a staunch supporter of the club off the field. Rimmer has been present at all of the Josephs Goal Charity fund raising games played at Edge Green Street, and although not appearing in the team on every occasion he did line up and play the majority of the 2019 game versus Bryan Robson‟s Manchester United legends side.

From the lionesses lair… ...ladies team progress Manager Mike Bourne has added quality to the side, a few of last season’s players having left due to College relocations or work commitments. The new players have added flair, ability and work rate to compliment our regular players who have all “gone up another gear” to form a formidable team. To date, we have played four games in Division 2, recording three wins and one defeat. The season opened with a 5-3 victory at Edge Green Street over Warrington Wolves Foundation Women‟s FC Development, followed by a defeat at MSB Woolton Ladies by 5-1. Showing resilience, the Ladies then bounced back with a resounding 6-0 win at the University of Liverpool Women. Our latest victory at home to MSB Woolton by 5-0 more than avenged the second fixture defeat – that game in particular we could have easily put eight or more past them! Indeed in most of our games to date we have totally outplayed the opposition and could (and maybe should) have added more to the final tally!
These two ties were against sides in higher leagues and our Ladies more than held their own in both games. Last weekend (24/10/21) our Lionesses visited promotion rivals FC St Helens Ladies and after a thrilling game which saw us take the lead, then go 2-1 down with minutes to play, our Ladies fought back to level at 2-2 and gain a well earned point, which saw us go top of the league! We would love to see some of you down here to support us, if you do our next two fixtures out of three are at home, all games are 2pm kick offs: Sunday 31/10/21: Formby Community FC Ladies (Away) Sunday 07/11/21: Alder FC Women Reserves (Home) Sunday 14/11/21: University of Liverpool Women (Home) You won’t be disappointed and you will be amazed at the quality of football, skill levels and effort on show!
Our Ladies were also entered into the prestigious Women‟s FA Cup. We brushed past West Kirkby 3-1 at Edge Green Street, before valiantly losing out to Altrincham Ladies in the next round at Moss Lane by 4-2, only succumbing to defeat in the final quarter.

Head coach’s NOTES A big, warm welcome to Campion AFC for today’s game. It is one of the longest journeys in the league so we wish them a safe trip down here and back again hopefully leaving here without any points though.
Before Saturday‟s game at Garstang, our results have not been good enough (a 6-2 loss at home to Steeton and a 5-0 loss away at Bacup Borough). As a management team, we take full responsibility for those defeats and since we have worked hard on the training pitch and at looking to bring players in to add experience and leadership into this already brilliant squad. Callum Richards has come in from Runcorn Town and made his debut on Saturday, we are looking forward to working with Callum for the rest of the season. One or two more players will hopefully be through the door over the next few days. We were absolutely fantastic last week away at Garstang, resulting in a 1-1 draw.
On reflection, we were gutted that we did not get all 3 points. We hit the bar and post twice and on another day we may have won comfortably. Defensively we were solid and I cannot say I have seen that at all this season so I feel like we have turned a corner in that department. In front of goal, we actually had more chances than we have in the two games prior and that performance is something that we can build on now over the next few games. We conceded in the 90th minute so the character we shown to get a late equaliser was really impressive. We had a great following from our fans that day so we appreciate that massively. Mikey Conlon, James McClenaghan and Tom Parry have all moved on to new clubs over the last two weeks and we wish them the best of luck for the rest of the season.
We cannot wait to get out in front of our fans again and hopefully we can put in a good performance and get all 3 points! Enjoy your afternoon, Adam

Married in the morning of Saturday 30th October 1954 the afternoon saw him playing for Southport against Carlisle United in a Division 3 North fixture and he went on to score a hat-trick in Southport's 4-1 victory over Carlisle. 30th October 1974 Don Revie managed England for the first time and goals from Mick Channon and Colin Bell (2) gave England an impressive 3-0 win over Czechoslovakia in a Euro qualifier at Wembley. Revie's England side didn't
concede a goal in his first six matches in charge and were unbeaten in his first nine (including a 2-0 defeat of West Germany) but exactly a year later, on 30th October 1975, England lost for the first-time during Revie's reign away to the Czechs in the return match. Czechoslovakia went on to win the qualifying group and then the tournament itself for the only time in its history. 30th October 2012 Arsenal were 4-0 down after just 37 minutes of a Capital One, League Cup, tie away at Reading but the Arsenal fans weren't despondent and sang 'We're going to win 5-4'. The fans were actually proved wrong by the Arsenal team who went on to win the match 7-5.
