A peanut formula, known as ‘plumpy nut’, is given to severely malnourished children. The St. Patrick’s health clinic outside of Lodwar, northern Kenya, has handed out 750 packets already this month. Over one third of children in the area are badly malnourished as a result of a drought which has left 13 million people across east Africa in need of emergency relief. Trocaire is using donations from Irish people to bring food, water and medical care to affected communities.

Climate change is a fact of life for thousands of people living along the banks of the Lempa, the largest river in El Salvador. They may not understand why the climate is changing but they know it is. Rains come late or start and then stop unexpectedly. Floods wash seeds or crops away. This has a devastating effect on farmers who have been able to sow their crops confidently for generations.
