Joanne is a life-long educator and mothDenver er of two. She is a former middle and high school SPED teacher, a former 58 Denver Public Schools assistant principal, and has also served on the executive level of a nonprofit programming school doing operations and community engagement. She currently supports underrepresented, low-income, first-generation undergraduates at CU Boulder.
She has served as the VP of Operations for National Association of Asian American Professionals Colorado, the operations team of the Colorado Dragon Boat Festival, and was the Denver Ambassador for The Cosmos. Currently, she is a commissioner on the Denver Asian American Pacific Islander Commission and is part of the team working on the Re-envisioning Denver’s Historic Chinatown Project. Born and raised in Denver, Mimi grew up with a strong sense of family, community, and pride. A mother of two boys, her dedication to family comes from her parents. Immigrants from Vietnam, her family established the Far East Center, the heart of Little Saigon Denver, in the 80’s. While running her gift shop, Truong An Gifts and event planning business, Sweetest Day Co, she also takes on managerial duties at the Far East Center and is a liaison for Little Saigon Denver.
