Finding Her Power

“What I aspire to be is a woman of substance. Someone who has a positive influence to the world while still embracing my individuality. In the career that I have chosen, I envision myself to continue to serve not only focusing on the youth but also the well-being of other communities.”

Jessica is not your typical cebuana. Not only is she the incumbent president of JCI Zugbuana, she is also presently serving as Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Federation President and Councilor of Cebu City. “I’m a public servant , everyday, I help think of ways how to make our city better. I provide the members of our community with opportunities for them to make their lives better.” Jessica is attempting to build a career in leadership as a public servant. As SK President and City Councilor, she wants the opportunity to make a di erence in the lives of her constituents and to create a sustainable impact.

Determined and passionate, she is also plays ultimate frisbee and participates in triathlons. The relationships she has built with the people around her, her family and friends are what drives her forward in achieving her goals. Her secret to her high powered job and lively social life is time management. She makes sure to make the most out of her 24 hours in a day by waking up early for workouts then going to the o ce for work, attending meetings, not

How Women Can Find Their Power

“A girl becomes a woman when she understands the power she holds - the strength and responsibility it takes to be a woman.”

As a woman, Jessica believes that part of being a woman is fighting for our rights everyday and redefining what it means to be a woman for generations to come. In her view, a modern woman is someone who can show the world that she can survive in a Male-dominated environment. Someone who is not afraid to take the lead and that a “Man’s World” is for women too. “My own ideal of what women should aspire to be is pretty simple - being better than who she was yesterday.”

She thinks that women are always undermined in di erent fields of work, as they are expected to stay at home and be good wives and mothers. She concedes that there is inequality in the way women and men are treated in the Philippines. To address this, Jessica encourages Filipina women to speak up. She believes that by giving women a voice, they are empowered to know what they deserve and never settle for less. “Women should advocate and support other women, and should speak up when there are injustices and unfair treatment.”

How Jci Empowers Women

“In JCI, I saw an opportunity to become a part of something bigger. I know that that when you work as a team of like-minded individuals, we can achieve so much more.” Jessica’s experience in JCI has been very formative her in career as a public servant and in shaping her identity as a woman. She says that JCI has helped her become the woman is now as it was in JCI that she was able to meet great women leaders, movers, and shapers in the community - all kinds of successful women in their chosen field. As president of JCI Zugbuana, Jessica encourages women to join female organizations in JCI as it is the perfect forum to meet empowered women, be trained in achieving goals, and become better people.
