The latest Ofsted report reveals that there has been an 11 per cent increase in the number of Good or Oustanding secondary schools in the Bradford district since August 2017. This has outperformed every other local authority in Yorkshire & the Humber. This major improvement has lifted Bradford ahead of Doncaster and Barnsley in the tables for Yorkshire. More than half of Bradford secondary schools are now Good or Oustanding, although the figure is still below the Yorkshire and national averages, it shows significant and positive signs of improvement. Early years sector in the region has also been performing well, with with 94 per cent of childminders and 95 per cent of nurseries or pre-schools in Yorkshire and the Humber being rated Good or Outstanding by Ofsted. Cathy Kirby, Ofsted director for Yorkshire and the Humber, said “At secondary school level, the percentage of schools that are good or better dropped to 68 per cent, which is well below national average.
“While there is still much to do, Bradford has seen a high rate of improvement compared to last year. “I am pleased to be able to report that early years provision in the region continues to give our youngest children the best start in life, with 94 per cent of childminders and 95 per cent of nurseries and pre-schools rated good or outstanding.” In addition to this positivity, is the exclusion rate per pupil in Bradford secondary schools is below the national average. In Bradford the rate of fixed period exclusions per pupil enrolments at secondary schools is 7.36 per cent, below the national average of 9.4 per cent, and way below the Yorkshire and the Humber average of almost 16 per cent. Bradford is, however, one of just three local authorities in Yorkshire and the Humber not to experience a drop in the number of Good or Outstanding primary schools. Bradford also remains below the national average in children reaching the expected standard in reading, writing and maths by the end of Key Stage 2.

Bradford man convicted of fraud ordered to repay over £30,000 A Bradford man convicted of fraud has been ordered to repay more than £30,000 following a confiscation hearing. The order against Mohammed Navid Ramzan, 28, was made at Bradford Crown Court last Wednesday (28 November) by His Honour Judge Burn. Ramzan, of Northdale Road, was given a sentence of 24 months which was suspended for the same period in March this year after he was convicted of conspiracy to defraud Lloyds Bank, with whom he was employed at the time of the offence in 2013. An investigation by the Bradford District Proceeds of Crime team found he had assets totalling £33,911.77. He now has three months to repay the full amount or he will be jailed for 12 months. Detective Sergeant Karen Milner, of the Bradford District Proceeds of Crime Team said: “This should serve as a warning to those who think they can benefit financially from a criminal lifestyle. “Ramzan probably thought he had
finished with the courts after his sentencing earlier this year, but the Proceeds of Crime Act legislation allows us to investigate the financial matters of criminals and establish what assets they have so Judges making these orders can take into account to what extent the individual has benefited. “If you suspect someone may be living a similar lifestyle then you can report them by calling the police on 101, or using the live chat facility on the West Yorkshire Police website. Information can also be reported anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555111. Mark Burns-Williamson, West Yorkshire’s Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) added: “It is yet another example of the significant sums of money which are being recovered thanks to the proactive efforts of Bradford’s Proceeds of Crime Team and prosecutors. “A portion of this will now be put into my Safer Communities Fund, which provides grants to community projects across West Yorkshire, helping to keep people safe and feeling safe. “So far, 140 projects in Bradford District have received a share of £651,000 of this
funding and the latest round is currently open for applications, with a deadline of 7th December. “Together, we are committed to taking
ill-gained money and assets from offenders and giving them back to many of the same communities that those criminals have targeted in the first place.”
Appeal: Car Sought In Connection With Disturbance, Bradford 30, suffered a serious head injury and a serious hand injury respectively. Both have since been discharged from hospital, along with a 23year-old woman, who was also injured in the disturbance.Detective Inspector Mark Taylor, of Bradford District CID, said: “One of the injured males nearly lost one of his hands when he tried to defend himself against a man with a knife. Deal Or No Deal?
An Asian Sunday Special Report GRAHAME ANDERSON grahame@asiansunday.co.uk
continued from front page..... The people of Bradford voted to leave the European Union back in 2016 by a whopping 19,338 majority. And yet as in many towns and cities across the UK, division seems to be a word used a great deal over the past two and a half years. For the record 123,913 voted as Brexiteers, while 104, 575 voted to remain. It's clear however, our nation is as divided as ever before thanks largely to what was always going to be a complicated process, and what might be termed mixed messages coming from our politicians. A Frustrating Process At one point the process shamelessly saw Bradford West MP Naz Shah still adorning a hospital identity bracelet, wheeled into the Commons with a sick bucket on her lap so she could register her vote on the EU Withdrawal Bill. Even the ill weren't given rest-bite it seems from the whips. Now, after two and half frustrating years the deal has been struck, Europe has said there's no more room for negotiation, as the beleaguered but determined Prime Minister goes on the public and media offensive. It's the politicians however who will have the final say later in December, though it seems certain Theresa May's deal will be rejected. This could of course plunge the UK into political crisis taking us all into the realms of the unknown. And now following ' the contempt of Parliament' issue, The Attorney General's advice has been published following a Commons vote. Given the terms of this deal the UK could become stuck in protracted and repeating rounds of negotiations with no lawful power to exit. As for the agreement now firmly placed on the Commons with table European Council president Donald Tusk finally confirmed its endorsement by 27 European Union leaders, after meeting for less than an hour on the 25th of November. He later tweeted: “EU27 has endorsed the Withdrawal Agreement and Political Declaration on the future EU-UK relations.” And so the fall out began. The Fall Out Former Brexit secretary David Davis urged his former Cabinet colleagues to "say no to this capitulation", while Mr Johnson said they should "chuck it out", warning that the proposals made a "nonsense of Brexit". Brexit-backing Tory MP Andrew
Labour Leader Jeremy Corbyn added: “It is a miserable failure of negotiation by a Government that has wasted the last two years fighting with itself, rather than securing a better deal with the EU. “The Tories have no right to inflict the chaos following crashing out of the European Union without a deal. That is why we will work with all sides in Parliament to oppose no deal.” Interestingly, the former Greek Minister of Finance Yanis Varoufakis, well versed in dealing with the EU, told the BBC's Newsnight programme no matter who negotiated the deal party or otherwise, they would have still ended up in the same place and probably with a similar deal, as that's how the EU work. He believes The Prime Minister should have opted for an off-the-shelf deal – ie – the Norway agreement, two years ago. The Norwegian Model This deal would mean the UK retaining many of the benefits of membership, including access to the EU’s common market. But interference from Europe would be greatly lessened. It would also prove slightly cheaper in the long run. Britain would be able to trade goods with EU states without paying customs fees, except on food and drinks. A case of nearly leaving but not quite. Focus On West Yorkshire It's hard in truth to find anyone in Bradford in favour of the present deal. One anonymous leave voter in the city told me “I am fed up with hearing about Brexit and I just don't think it will happen. I'm not actually sure it it will impact me personally but we should move on.” Another cited a feeling of relief we are just getting out of the EU at last.
Leading Brexiteer Philip Davies, the Tory MP for Shipley has previously come to the PM's aid saying Tory MPs were acting against “the UK's national interest” in going against her. Patson Local Bradford supermarkets have been well known in the city since 1979, specialising in selling Eastern European food and drink. They are now run by Denis Kumar who told me: “Brexit
is the worst thing that could have happened to us as a business as we deal a lot with Eastern Europe and Europe as a whole. Since the referendum prices have been forced up 20 per cent, though the weak pound didn't help. “This is certainly not a good deal for either our business or the people of Bradford, but the community here is
The sad thing is the referendum was run largely on immigration, there was little of what leaving the EU might involve, how it could affect the future of our children, the possible backstop problem and all of these things. A second vote isn't possible now, but if we did have another referendum I believe people would vote to remain. Lord Mayor pleads to the
youth of Bradford Labour Cllr Masood Ahmed - Cabinet Member for Schools
ANISAH ARIF anisah@asiansunday.co.uk
The Lord Mayor of Bradford urges local community and parents to educate their children about the risks of dangerous driving and the importance of employment. Zafar Ali, the Lord Mayor of Bradford has expressed his concern for young drivers on the road and urges them to be careful of the risks attached to driving. After recent events where it saw four young boys lose their lives in a tragic car accident in early August, the fear of the rise in road accidents is a growing concern among the Bradford public. Lord Mayor Zafar Ali told us: “When I heard of the tragic incident about the four boys involved in a car accident, it really upset me. Fast driving is not answer for your adventure. You can have a different adventure. Dangerous driving can kill anyone. The boys have left their parents in sadness and turmoil. “We are requesting the youth of today to be sensible, be mature, be responsible and act like an adult. Bradford has already got a bad name. We do try and request to stop this act of nonsense on a regular basis”.
“Bradford has a lot of heritage, and potential in terms of employment. I am quite aware that the youth are struggling to find a good job here. However, there are many jobs available with the right training, small incentive to go to. The The rise in fatalities has caused West local authorities are putting money Yorkshire Police to appeal to drivers towards resources to tackle this issue. We should do the utmost to bring our to think about the manner of their youngsters together in order for them to driving. have a better life for the future”. “It is a long-running fight. It just does not depend on the police. It depends on the community, parents. To practice educating right from the beginning, from the home”, the Lord Mayor tells us. In 2018, 47 people were killed in 43 crashes across the county, including a significant number in the Bradford district, which a road safety charity described as “deeply concerning”.
“There will be improvement on children’s services, because children are our future” With the population estimated to grow by an estimated amount of 2,000 people a year for the minimum of the next ten years, the inherent problem facing Bradford’s youth – dangerous driving and low levels of employment – will continue.
However, he places a significant amount of emphasis on the parents, instead of the youth. He believes local parents need to take notice and extra care for children at an earlier age. “The main issue lies with the parents. I’m not very fond of the institutional interference, because that doesn’t solve anything. The problem can be solved, if we as a community and parents get the message across right from the beginning of their childhood”. Bradford is recognised to be the youngest city in the UK, with a quarter of the population under the age of 25. In 2010, Bradford will be the youngest city in Europe. It also has one of the highest level of unemployment between young people. With Leeds a more attractive site for jobseekers, those who stay in Bradford believe to have limited options. However, the Lord Mayor tells us the council is trying to improve the city.

We have one councillor who lives and works in Nottingham, so how can we prosper? We shouldn't have councillors for the sake of calling them councillor 'saab'. Mohammed Ashiq, pensioner “Except for the litter problems, waste bins, violence and road accidents, there is so much more that needs improving. The local councillors need’s to get off their high-horse and make some real changes. Instead of serving the community, they are serving themselves!”
Madia Bi, trainee nurse “There needs to be improvement on things like waste. It needs to be collected regularly at least 2 times a week. ASIAN SUNDAY Launches
Regional Title For Kirklees BY ANISAH ARIF
anisah@asiansunday.co.uk
Publishers of the Asian Sunday have now launched a new regional title in Kirklees. The historic occasion took place at the Dewsbury Town Hall on Thursday 29th November where people from the political, business and education sector as well as locals gathered. Guests witnessed the unveiling the very first publication for the region featured a story about Mushy Asghar, the Educating Yorkshire student who overcame his stammer. Guest speakers attended the launch such as Mayor of Kirklees Gwen Lowe, Labour MP for Dewsbury and Shadow Minister for Health Paula Sherriff and Bradford East MP and Shadow Minister for Justice Imran Hussain all spoke at the event as well as the editor, Fatima Patel who all gave speeches to the audience. MP Imran Hussain said: “Fatima is someone who is massively dedicated to her work, that I’ve known for many years. I know her to be absolutely principled. This will be a great addition to the whole of Kirklees. I think she herself will be a great addition to West Yorkshire. It’s been a privilege and honour to
join everyone here today to support her”. The Asian Sunday Kirklees first newspaper was given to all the members that came, and shared photo opportunities as well as food and cake. The newspaper will be distributed to over 300 businesses within the Kirklees area, which covers Huddersfield, Batley, Dewsbury, Mirfield, Cleckheaton and Heckmondwike. Mayor of Kirklees, Gwen Lowe said: “There is nothing better than the feel of a book or a newspaper in your hand. Sadly, we are seeing a decline of local newspapers, but this paper is a great platform to find out what is happening in the community to learn from and to encourage people to engage more. If it matters in the community, it is worth writing about. I’m very sure that this Kirklees edition will be a great success” “The future depends on what we do in the present. Whilst we are
living in the present, we must celebrate life everyday knowing that we are making history with every word, every action and every deed” Asian Sunday Newspaper is a pioneering media title which made history as the UK’s first free Sunday newspaper and also the first ever Asian Sunday newspaper. The newspaper launched in 2011 and went on to become one of the most read Asian newspaper’s in Bradford. The aim of the paper was to provide a platform for learning, understanding, dialogue, integration and to conduct and deliver responsible reporting. Following on from success, Fatima launched a national weekly title Asian Standard and re-launched the glossy monthly lifestyle magazine- Asian Style magazine.
Among other professional credits, the media entrepreneur is also patron of Cancer Support Yorkshire and its founder and Chief Executive of the Inspirational Women’s Foundation and on the Board of Directors for the UNESCO City of Film Bradford. The future plans are in gear for Asian Sunday Newspaper with the magazine Desi Kitchen, which will be the first consumer food magazine dedicated to South Asian cuisine, hoping to launch in January. As well as this, the newspaper is hoping to release new regional titles in areas such as Leeds, Preston, Blackburn, Bolton, Newcastle, Leicester, Nottingham, Coventry, Slough, Southall and Wembley.

Food Banks
A scandal of our time? GRAHAME ANDERSON grahame@asiansunday.co.uk
It's one of the scandals of our times and to the shame of any nation boasting a healthy economy. And yet the spectre of food-banks continues to blight the social landscape. It isn't just a UK problem however with the concept originating in The United States as far back as the 60's, and followed by Australia, Canada and areas of continental Europe. Fascinating Research Research undertaken by the University of York revealed few Muslims representing 25 per cent of the local population use the 67
food banks in Bradford. The researchers said possible "inadvertent" reasons for this situation could include the predominance of "white food", how few non-Muslim organisations were able to cater for cultural diets and that white people were over-represented among the staff of providers.” It's also a startling fact 29 per cent of children in Bradford are still living under the poverty line. And yet food-banks are still not officially tracked by the government. The get out is it's not possible to keep count of the number of people using foodbanks, without imposing unnecessary burdens on the volunteers running them.
The York study however may not have taken into account different forms of distribution. Ken Leach, food coordinator at the Bradford Metropolitan Food-bank based in Girlington told me: “In our case, housing associations, social workers and various other groups request a food parcel. If it's for an Asian family we prepare the parcel to best match their needs. If it's for a vegetarian we cater for that and so on, so everyone gets the right help. “Making benefit payments much quicker would certainly help along with any alleviation of homeless in the city. Only this morning when I took refuse to a local council wheely bin, I opened the lid to find a man actually sleeping in the bin. That's never happened to me before but certainly brings home the problems people encounter on a daily basis. We'd be more than happy if there wasn't a need for food banks at all.” Incredibly the food-bank remains on target to reach 13,000 food parcels this year alone, and they tell me demand is increasing yet again.
Families In Crisis Josie Barlow Manager of the Bradford Central Food-bank told me more than 50 families in crisis come into the food-bank every week. She also confirmed local job centres were still referring people along with a number of other groups, and they recently had to help a dental nurse who'd been made redundant. It's true to say they do need to help out those from a professional background from time to time. She said; “We saw a 23 per cent rise in users up to the last years end, and there are no signs things will get better in the near future. There's no doubt delays in benefits payments are making it hard for many people, and we see the knock on effect of course. October proved to be a really busy month, though winter can generally be a tough time for those in crisis. “We actually do have quite a lot of people using the food-bank from an Asian background, as there's a lot of child poverty in the city. All our food packages are put together on dietary advice, so everyone can be catered for. Like other centres we wish there wasn't a need for such a service, but it's hard to see things getting any better.” Pushing The Politicians In her speech to the Annual Bar and Young Bar Conference 2018, Shadow Attorney General Shari Chakrabarti commented: “I never thought that I would see foodbanks next to investment banks in one of the wealthiest countries on Earth.” The party have pledged in their manifesto to end the scandal of food-banks. And yet sadly, a whistle-blower recently claimed some Labour party staff use payday loans and food-banks to make ends meet. Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Michael Gove, had previously suggested the pressures faced by families having recourse to food banks were 'often the result of decisions that they have taken which mean they are not best able to manage their finances.' His remarks came in for heavy criticism. Time To End The Shame In this 21st century digital age surely any politician worth his or her salt must do all they can to end the necessity for food banks in the world's fifth richest economy.

The Urban Punjabi Legend
is back with a BANG!
By ANISAH ARIF We all know Juggy D back from the early 2000’s where he created a new Urban Indian genre into the music scene. He topped the UK national charts with his first Punjabi language album which won the hearts of many. Juggy D is known for breaking the dance floor with his catchy songs and bhangra-jams and his fusion between Indian and hip-hop music. Now Juggy D, real name, Jagwinder Singh Dhaliwal, has released his latest track “Get Down” featuring Rishi Rich and Ikka, currently in the top ten in the radio charts and has over 2.5 million hits. It might look like Juggy D is back with a bang with his latest song, but he claims he never really gave up his enthusiasm for music: “I never really left the music scene. I took a gap because family is very important. I got married and I had children. I wanted to give my full commitment”. With success from his older urban beat songs such as “Sohniye” and “Billo”, Juggy D’s life transformed, and the response was massive. “I didn’t know it was going to blow up like it did, we didn’t know that we were going to be touring all over the world, top of the pops. We just made a song in the studio, we had no idea what journey it was going to take us. It was
phenomenal”. Since he rose to stardom, the Punjabi artist from Southall in London, has had numerous crossover singles with musicians such as Madonna, Ricky Martin, Mary J Blige and Craig David, whilst adding a punjabi spice. As well as releasing a number of film soundtracks such as “Balle Balle ft Veronica Mehta” in the movie Bride and Prejudice and a title song “Mubarakan” for the movie. However, he is still rocking the music scene with his latest release “Get Down”: “I was always working but I was trying to find the right deal and the right way to present the body of work. Three years ago we did a song called Freak with Rishi, around that same time, we recorded seven songs in six days, which was meant to come out soon after the freak track but Rishi ended up moving from Atlanta to Mumbai. His sound changed and he didn’t want to release them songs. As an artist it was very frustrating, I was sitting on a lot of music and I felt like I needed to get that music out. I didn’t new material in the market at the time. But everything happens for a reason. Universal heard a song and wanted to release it. We soon released Get Down which was signed to Universal Music and the response has been incredible”.

INTERVIEW The Indo-British singer has collaborated with Rishi Rich on a number of songs which have been applauded for redefining the British Asian underground music that first set off their careers over a decade ago. Both singers have remained close since, “Rishi was the first person I ever worked with. Me and him have a natural chemistry and bond. We’re brothers and family. We don’t just make music, we chill together, eat together. I live with him when I go Mumbai. There is always that spark there which is very organic, even with Jay Sean. It’s something that we’ve been doing for many years”. Having a big music career and being a father of two seems like a struggle but not for Juggy D. He tells us: “It’s just about having the right balance. Everyone has those two different stages of life. Right now I’m at a stage where I’m a father of two children. We also have another one of the way, so I’m going to be a father of three soon. I don’t drink or party anymore, I’ve gone through the stage of my life. When I’m at home, I’m completely committed as a husband and a father. I don’t find music and family life very difficult. The
new release is made me busier and given me a lot of work. Before I’d take time on my tours spending days in the cities, now I go on tour, and I will only be there for the time I need to be there. The moment I’m done, I’m on a plane and I’m back home”. However, being a father comes with large responsibility. We asked the singer if he going to be careful about what songs he writes in the future being a father of two girls. “I have done songs that are conscious tracks, I did a song called Nasha (Intoxication) and the effects of it. That was many years ago on my first album. I do songs that connect with people in different ways. I don’t really do songs that are offend people, my music will make people smile and happy. And I think that works for me”. All have witnessed the growth of the rap culture over the years and Juggy D has been a part of that. The must-have bonafide hit song “Get Down” is available now on YouTube and iTunes. What is next for this urban Desi legend? Who knows. We will have to keep an eye out.

10 Foods that could
make you fat Dieters have been warned that eleven seemingly healthy food choices could actually cause them to pile on the pounds. Granola for breakfast, a brown bread sandwich for lunch and washing them down with fruit juice may sound like a healthy meal plan but these ‘healthy’ foods could be causing you to gain weight. That’s according to the health and fitness experts at Vivotion.com who claim the usual suspects dieters turn to when trying to shed pounds can actually have the reverse effect. They say granola is packed with fat and sugar, and fruit juice contains more sugar than some fizzy drinks. Instead they suggest replacing them with truly healthy alternatives including porridge, peas and homemade kale chips. Drinks aren’t safe either, with the experts suggesting swapping sugary fruit juices for fruit tea coolers. A spokesman from Vivotion.com said: “With the large amount of choices and ease of these so-called healthy foods so readily available, it’s no wonder dieters keep going back for more. “Just because something is low in calories does not necessarily mean it’s the healthiest option. “It’s important to make sure that you have an adequate amount of fibre and protein in your diet too so you can keep those tell-tale pangs of hunger after a disappointing rice cake at bay.” Here are the site’s 11 diet foods you should avoid along with the best alternatives. 1.Granola It’s easy to see granola as a healthy breakfast option but most supermarket granolas are packed with fat and sugar. Granola does contain some healthy ingredients like low GI oats and nuts, which are a good source of fat. Try instead: Porridge Porridge made with rolled oats is a natural and healthy way to kick-start your day without any added sugars or preservatives. The oats will give you the slow release energy you need and you can add banana or fresh berries for one of your five a day. morning, top it up with soda water for a refreshing drink with little to no sugar.
2.Trail mixes Trail mix is often seen as a healthy alternative to snacking. But dried fruit can be full of extra sugar and mixed with nuts, a large bag can contain up to 3,000 calories.
4.Agave nectar Agave nectar is a syrup often added to food to give it a sweet kick. However, agave is known to contain high levels of fructose which in large amounts can cause elevated levels of insulin the fat storing hormone.
Try instead: Portioned fruit, nut and seed mix If you limit your intake to 40g of dried fruit and nuts you’ll get all the nutrients you need without constantly grazing on the huge bags of trail mix. Try a handy bag to grab on the go for a nutritious balance of proteins, fats and carbs. 3.Fruit juice Fruit juice is seen as a healthy start to the day and despite being packed full of vitamins and minerals fruit juice is also full of sugar. Even if it’s made with real fruit all the good stuff, like the fibre, has been removed. Try instead: Fruit tea soda If you like to have that fruity boost in your drink, make a pot of fruit herbal tea then leave overnight to chill. In the
Try instead: Coconut nectar Coconut nectar is completely raw, meaning its low GI and nutritionally superior to agave. It has vitamin C and is naturally sweet but mild in flavour. 5.Sweetcorn New research suggests sweetcorn raises blood sugar in the body, meaning your glucose levels drop. Not great if you’re trying to lose weight. Try instead: Peas Both fresh and frozen peas are actually a fantastic source of protein. With a 64g serving of petit pois, you'll receive 7g of protein plus a stack of fibre, which will help keep you fuller for longer. Try adding them into
pastas and salads to cut down on carb-loaded portions. 6.Sushi It’s well known that fish with it’s essential Omega-3 fatty acids is good for you, but when it comes layered in starchy rice and smothered in soy sauce, it’s a recipe for bloating disaster. Try instead: Fish that has been steamed or grilled. Make sure you get your fishy benefits by tucking into a plate of steamed salmon or grilled tuna steak a few times a week. The way they are cooked will mean they taste great without any salty condiments. 7.Rice Cakes Rice cakes have long been known as an alternative to snacking on fatty foods, as they contain very few calories. However, because they have pretty much nothing in them, they lack fibre and protein that leaves you craving food more than if you didn’t eat anything at all. Try instead: Celery with peanut butter.

8.Vegetable crisps These colourful alternatives to potato-based crisps are high in vitamins A and C and are supposedly healthy for you. However, they are highly salty and a handful can hold up to 150 calories and nine grams of fat.
10.Salad Dressing Everyone knows that salad is a perfectly healthy meal as vegetables are packed full of nutrients and fibre, but some dieters find their taste a bit, well, boring. The solution is a tasty dressing, but tipping a high-sugar commercial dressing all over a salad is disaster for your calorie intake.
Try instead: Kale chips For a healthier and cheaper alternative, grab a bag of kale from your local supermarket, place them on a baking tray and coat with coconut oil. You can season with anything from chilli to miso paste. Bake on a low temperature for around an hour until the chips are light and crispy.
Try instead: Homemade Salad Dressing. Creating a personal vegetable-topping sauce allows dieters to control what they consume; use favoured herbs, spices, vinegars and only a splash of extra virgin olive oil.
9.Wraps The healthy option of the sandwich is just as lethal. The wrap alone is very high in calories due to the fat and sodium content. Adding any fillings to it just piles on the calories. Try instead: Wholegrain pitta bread. These little pockets of goodness provide a great
11.Diet Soft Drinks Almost zero calorie versions of popular sugary drinks are, as they sound, too good to be true. All those nasty additives could still affect dieters’ health and may stimulate appetite too. Try instead: Fruit cordial It might not be fizzy, but flat fruit cordial will quench thirst and rehydrate better, taste superior

That Was The Year That Was
Our pint sized look at the political happenings in the UK GRAHAME ANDERSON grahame@asiansunday.co.uk
They say a week is a long time in Politics, so how might we label a whole year? There's little doubt 2018 has been a roller coaster ride with Brexit as the lead car. Asian Sunday takes a brief look back on the major political highlights of the past 11 months. January MP's debated the Restoration and Renewal of the Palace of Westminster in the House of Commons, voting to leave the Palace of Westminster for the first timer since the blitz during the restoration works, costing £3.5bn. The move will take place within the next decade. February A speech by Prime Minister Theresa May in Manchester on public life, marked the centenary of women’s suffrage. She used to this to also highlight “More people from black, Asian, and minority ethnic backgrounds are in Parliament, in the media and business. “Real injustices still remain for women, for LGBT people, for black and minority ethnic Britons, for people from poorer families and for people with disabilities. But if we cast our eyes back to well within living memory, we can see just how far we have come.”
March Russian nationals Sergei Skripal and his daughter Yulia were discovered unconscious on a bench in the Wiltshire city of Salisbury. The British government says a militarygrade Novichok nerve agent was used in the attempted murder. Questions were asked in the commons and a finger was quickly pointed toward
Moscow, who denied the whole episode. The political row would go on for months and escalate when Dawn Sturgess lost her life after she and her boyfriend Charlie Rowley were exposed to the same Novichok nerve agent left in a perfume bottle by bungling agents. April After some hard grilling from MP's Amber Rudd resigned as home secretary, saying she "inadvertently misled" MPs over targets for removing illegal immigrants. This was of course, related to the Windrush scandal. Ms Rudd admitted she had no idea there had been home office removal targets. She became the fourth person forced to resign from the cabinet in just six months - following Sir Michael Fallon, Priti Patel and Damian Green. Enter Sajid Javed, the first politician from an ethnic minority to take on one of the great offices of state. He told MPs: "I want to start by making a pledge, a pledge to those from the Windrush generation who have been in this country for decades and yet have struggled to navigate through the immigration system. This never
should have been the case and I will do whatever it takes to put it right." May Former Lord Mayor of London Ken Livingstone finally resigned from the party amid complaints from some Labour MP's his behaviour had been both despicable and hurtful. He had
previously of course, been suspended from the party from 2016 claiming Adolf Hitler supported Zionism in the 1930s. Mr Livingstone said: “He was supporting Zionism – this before he went mad and ended up killing six million Jews. “The simple fact in all of this is that Naz Shah made these comments at a time when there was another brutal Israeli attack on the Palestinians.”

June The second anniversary of the Brexit referendum saw tens of thousands of people march in central London to demand a final vote on any UK exit deal. Organisers of the 'People's Vote' march told the world Brexit is "not a done deal" and people must "make their voices heard". Hundreds of others attended a pro-Brexit counterprotest. Liberal Democrat leader Sir Vince Cable also said Brexit was "not a done deal" and could be reversed. Caroline Lucas from the Green Party told everyone Brexit would be a disaster for the UK July As the sun continued to shine Theresa May summoned her cabinet to Chequers for what was to become a controversial Brexit blueprint. At its centre lay a proposal to create both a free trade area for goods and avoid friction at the border. It would also protect jobs ensuring both sides meet their commitments to Northern Ireland and Ireland. Shortly afterwards Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson resigned, and was joined by the Brexit Secretary himself who couldn't bring himself to get on board. He tweeted “The deal is worse than staying in”. Protests took place as President Trump visited the UK meeting both the Prime Minister and the Queen during a weekend visit. They say the move is "just another step" to keep. Instagram "a vibrant community where people connect in authentic

continued to grow in popularity recent years having passed a billion users. In September, its founders announced they were leaving the firm after reports of tension between the pair and Facebook.
Since its launch in 2010, Instagram has become a tool for online influencers to amass large followings and often, in turn, get paid to market products. Payment for this form of advertising is often scaled by the size of the influencer's online audience and engagements but an online investigation by marketing agency Mediakiz last year showed just how easy it is to become a fake influencer. Some popular apps utilised by users to boost their followings have been recently shut down, but others that pay monthly subscription fees are still available, website Techcrunch reports. The Status tab is effectively a version of Snapchat’s Stories where users can post videos, images or GIFs that disappear after 24 hours. Facebook says that 450 million of WhatsApp’s user base are currently using the Status page. The ads will appear in the app’s status feature from 2019, according to founder Brian Acto, who said it’s one of the reasons he left the company. The return of the supersized mortgages. SHABAB GULFRAZ Shabab Gulfraz is our resident Finance expert.
It is becoming apparent from various journals that I read that homeowners are being offered supersized mortgages. There is clear evidence that banks are providing people with debt of up to six times their salaries. This means that in reality are the banks seriously taking into consideration affordability, as well as the potential future issues that might arise from lending people too much money. In reality British people buying their first homes are now borrowing circa 3.7 times their annual gross income, which is the highest ever income multiple since records began in 1970. If we look back at 2007 the income multiple was circa 3.4, and there was a financial crisis around the same time. It is said that now in 2018 a quarter of all mortgages are around 4.5 times someone’s salary if not higher, compared to just a fifth over three years ago. Now in my view this could be due to property prices rising, as well as stagnant wage growth leading to people borrowing more than they should do so. This couples with
fact that as highlighted above six times income multiples by some banks might be leading to another economic crisis within the housing market. The above coupled with the fact that the subprime market coming back is worrying. There has been a huge surge in banks targeting clients with poor credit history, and the debt is actually being packaged and sold off to other banks and investors, which means that in reality similar conditions are beginning to exist, which led to the last economic crisis. Now if you are looking to buy a property, I would encourage you to seek advice from an independent financial adviser. This is because they have a responsibility to give you advice linked to your finances. I would also encourage you to take the common-sense approach. What do I mean, well I mean you know your finances better than anyone else. If you know you cannot afford to take on too much debt, or you think your job is not secure or safe, then why risk your financial wellbeing.
The other issue I would consider is changing circumstances i.e. if you and your partner are applying for a mortgage, but then you are thinking kids in 2 years for example, then can you afford to pay the mortgage or not. My view is if you feel you will struggle, then why not buy a smaller property. Perhaps a smaller property would mean less stress, and yes it might mean less space or not as fashionable a property, but I would sacrifice space and looking fashionable for financial security, and knowing I am not over stretching myself. So, for those of our readers looking to buy their first house, my final words are please talk to other people such as advisers, and people who have had mortgages before to get their insight into best practice. It is always better to get as much information as possible, and then make decisions that are right or you. Please note. This article is not to be construed as advice, but instead provides generic information for guidance purposes only.

Bradford's Oldest woman celebrates 106th Birthday Mrs. Katari Kaur is the oldest woman in Bradford and recently celebrated her 106th birthday with her family. Her husband, the late Karam Chand, passed away in 2016 aged 110 just six weeks away celebrating his 111th birthday. They tied the knot in an arranged marriage in a Sikh ceremony in 1925 and then came to the UK in 1965. Mr. Chand replaced his heritage skills as a farmer and worked equally in Bradford’s city woolen mills. For 7 years, they led the annual parade in Girlington, Bradford where they lived, and members of the community came together, until 2015. Their now four generation-strong family has a huge family tree stretching down from Karam and includes eight children, 27 grandchildren and dozens of greatgrandchildren. The couple became well known following their 90th wedding anniversary, and never argued, according to family. Paul Chand, Mrs. Katari and Mr. Chand’s son told the Asian Sunday: “My parents have always been surrounded by a large and caring family. We talk and entertain my parents, provide them with a good healthy diet, and make sure they don't feel lonely. Exercise also helps - as they got older, my parents still used
to go for walks in the local area every day”. The pair are believed to hold the record for the world’s longest marriage of 90 years and had the chance to meet Her Majesty, The Queen at the garden tea party at the Buckingham Palace. Being recognised by national media such as the BBC One Show, Kartari Kaur and her husband also inaugurated Broadway shopping centre in Bradford in 2015. When asked what advice she has for other couples, her son replied: “Be with somebody who makes you happy, and have a good support network of friends and family around you”. Mrs Kaur’s celebrated her 106th birthday with her family, including children, grandchildren and greatgrandchildren and friends on the 17th November 2018. The Lord Mayor of Bradford, Councillor Abid Hussain also joined the celebrations. Mr. Chand said: "It was a wonderful party. All the family turned up from UK, India and Canada. The Lord Mayor graced us with his presence, especially for this occasion and we are honoured. I hope everyone's parents can share the same sort of life that my parents had together. I am pleased with everyone who was
present and would like to thank them". Her health tip is to have home cooked food and live life without stressing. The family had put their parents’ incredible longevity down to their hard-working lives when they were younger, a lifetime of eating clean food and their inter-generational living arrangement.

The Courts Will Punish Unreasonable Conduct In litigation the Civil Procedure Rules (the Court rules which govern civil cases) stipulate that if a Claimant discontinues his claim once proceedings have begun then he is liable to pay not only his own costs but also his opponent’s costs incurred up to the point of discontinuance. However, the High Court case of Harrap v Brighton & Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust demonstrates how the Court can dis-apply this rule in certain circumstances. In that case, the Claimant pursued a clinical negligence claim against the Defendant for its alleged failure to arrange a cardiology review. The Claimant claimed that had the review taken place then he would have undergone treatment which would have avoided the stroke from which he later suffered. The claim proceeded to trial. However, on the third day of the trial, the Claimant discontinued his claim following evidence from one of the Defendant’s factual witnesses during crossexamination. That evidence, which was fatal to the Claimant’s case, was not contained in the witness statement of that particular witness previously. The Claimant accepted that he would have to pay the Defendant’s costs of the action as a result of the discontinuance of the claim but he contended that he should only be responsible for the costs up to the date of exchange of witness statements and thereafter the Defendant should pay his costs on the basis that had the Defendant disclosed that crucial piece of evidence at the appropriate stage then the Claimant would have discontinued his claim much earlier. The Defendant however argued that the claim was always doomed to fail and that the Claimant should not be able to avoid the usual cost
consequences of the discontinuance of the claim. The Defendant contended that the additional evidence provided by its witness did not amount to a change of circumstances which would justify the Court from departing from the general rule that the discontinuing Claimant should pay the Defendant’s costs of the action in its entirety. However, the Judge did not accept the Defendant’s argument that the claim was always going to fail. Instead the Judge found that the new evidence amounted to a change of circumstances which was due to the unreasonable conduct of the Defendant. The Defendant had unreasonably failed to set out the full details of
its case in the witness statement. Therefore the Judge departed from the general rule on costs and the Claimant was ordered to pay his own costs and the Defendant’s costs up to the date when the new evidence was disclosed and thereafter the Claimant was not liable to pay the Defendant’s costs. This case is a salient reminder for those engaged in litigation that conduct is all important and that any conduct which is perceived as being unreasonable by the Court will be penalised. Sport Continues To Fail British South Asians
On Friday 23 November 2018 the national charity Sporting Equals organised a major conference at the Edgbaston Cricket ground in Birmingham under the heading of British Asians in Sport and Physical Activity, known as The “BASPA 2018”. Sporting Equals campaign to create solutions for inequality in sport and received support for the event from the England & Wales Cricket Board (ECB) and Sport England in recognition of the urgent need for action and change ahead. The aim was to share insights, create debate and identify key actions to help tackle under-representation of British Asian communities in sport. The forthcoming Commonwealth Games in Birmingham in 2022 was viewed as a further opportunity and platform to inspire the sporting skills, experience and talent of British Asians both on and off the field.
Following a welcome address by the Sporting Equals CEO, Arun Kang, local MP Preet Gill made a key note address before delegates debated the four main themes of the summit, Inactivity, Elite & Talent Pathway, Coaching and Workforce. The Panels were each led by key campaigners advocating the increase of British Asian representation in sport, namely Dal Dhaliwal a health and wellbeing expert, Abu Nasir of GSV Sports Management,
Professor John Williams from University of Leicester and Yunus Lunat of Ison Harrison Solicitors and Sports Resolution Ltd. Arun Kang reminded the audience that despite promises made over the years by various sports and governing bodies to increase the Asian participation and representation, the figure for Asian inclusion made embarrassing reading with only 10 out of 3,000 professional footballers being British Asian (0.3%) and only 7 out of 630 Team GB athletes for the Rio 2016 Olympics and Paralympics were British Asian (1.1%). Off the pitch only 3% of the professional workforce was from the BMAE communities and only 1% of British Asians being Board members of sports organisations. Many delegates expressed disappointment and exasperation at the lack of commitment by sports providers to tackle this agenda, compounded by their absence at the summit. Professor Williams called for accountability from governing bodies and key executives in sports governing bodies and clubs and that the time for rhetoric had long passed. It was now time for action not words. Taking that
theme further, perhaps the most poignant and striking message of the day was from Yunus Lunat, a campaigning lawyer with Ison Harrison Solicitors in Leeds and of Aspire Sports Resolution Limited who questioned and called for an explanation from Sport England, UK Sport and the various sports governing bodies for agreeing to and signing up to 30% gender only targets in 2016. He referred to a report by the Women in Sport organisation only the previous year which had celebrated female representation in boardrooms of publicly funded sports, which had actually reached an average of 30% for the first time, an increase from its first audit figure of 21%. The Report highlighted the fact that of 63 organisations surveyed, 26 had at least 30% female representation in Boardrooms and further, female representation on executive teams made up an average of 40%. Yunus Lunat proclaimed that it was demonstrative of a lack of leadership and the clearest indication that race and Asian representation was not a priority for sports governing bodies when all the evidence pointed out that race and in particular Asian
Yunus Lunat Ison Harrison at exclusion shouldof have been made a priority. the Sporting quals conference Following the event the Sporting Equals CEO Arun Kang said “BASPA was a momentous occasion and we must use this momentum to increase Asian representation across sport from coaching and talent to workforce and inactivity. Realistic solutions were proposed which we will record and present to the sports sector. There was a clear consensus for change and to keep up the momentum with less rhetoric and more action”.
ECB to recruit 2,000 South Asian female mentors England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) celebrated six months of progress on its South Asian Action Plan as it announced £1.2 million of funding to develop a network of 2,000 female role models. The community event took place in the Sports Lounge in Leicester with former champion England spinner Graeme Swann and his Strictly partner Oti Mabuse. The grant, given by the National Lottery awarded by Sport England, will be used to retain and develop and expand cricket’s female volunteer network within the South Asian community. The new volunteers ‘activators’ will merge coaching and mentoring to inspire and support the next generation of cricketers. They will help deliver the All Stars Cricket, ECB’s entry-levelcricket programme for 5-8 year olds, in seven cities and act as role models. This aims to show young people the positive part that cricket can play in their lives.
The aspiration to expand the female coaching network was one of the 11 key objectives outlined in the ECB’s South Asian Action Plan, launched in May to transform the way cricket engages with British South Asian communities. 30% of people surveyed during the consultation process for the plan said that more female coaches would encourage more South Asian women and girls to play the game. Former leading England Women’s bowler Isa Guha and local school children from Coleman Primary School and Al Aqsa School all taking part in an All Stars Cricket session hosted by Leicestershire Community Engagement Officer, Amna Rafiq. The Strictly stars joined women from around Leicester in a women’s cricket and Bollywood dance session, an exciting 90-minute fitness session which combines cricket Bollywood dance routines with cricketing skills. The new volunteers will work in seven cities (Birmingham, Bradford, London, Leeds, Leicester Manchester and Nottingham) with a high South Asian population.
Former England Women’s cricketer Isa Guha said: “Coming up through the ranks of cricket as a woman of South Asian heritage, I’m acutely aware of the importance of
attracting young girls from a diverse range of backgrounds to play our great game. “Not only do we need to create new ways of interacting with these girls, such as the local Bolly Cric-Hit programme that’s been so successful in Leicester, we also need to invest in attracting women into coaching and facilitator roles to help train and nurture the next generation of stars”.

Virat Kohli Becomes Fastest Batsman
After 10,000 runs in ODI Cricket Virat Kohli has become the fastest player to reach 10,000 runs in One Day International (ODI) cricket. He reached the milestone in his 205th ODI.
with which you bat is just amazing. @imVkohli, congratulations on achieving 10,000 runs in ODIs. Keep the runs flowing.”
The popular cricketer completed this amazing feat against the West Indies in Vishakpatnam on October 24, 2018.
Sachin was not alone in praising the Delhi born batsman.
Kohli beat the record insanely by 54 innings, previously held by Sachin Tendulkar. While Sachin got to 10,000 runs in his 259th ODI, Virat reached the same in his 205th match. Kohli breached the mark set by Tendulkar in the 37th over, hitting a simple tip to long-on for a single off Ashley Nurse. Seventeen years ago, Sachin became the first batsman to make 10,000 runs in ODI cricket. Tendulkar hit leg-spinner Shane Warne through the covers in an ODI match against Australia to make history. This came during the 3rd ODI of Australia’s tour to India. The game took place at the Holkar Cricket Stadium in Indore on March 31, 2011. With Virat overtaking the master blaster, Sachin went on Twitter to congratulate the Indian captain:
Fans and experts from the cricket world posted their thoughts on social media using Twitter handles such as #KingKohli.
innings. He smashed thirteen 4s and four 6s as India scored a mammoth 321-6 in their 50 overs. This was the 35th century made by Kohli in ODIs.
“It’s just incredible that he can be so consistent with the way he scores a hundred. He has a pattern to how he scores his runs.
The most amazing aspect to his game is the consistency. Only cricket greats have performed game after game. Having seen a lot of cricket both as a player and coach, former West Indian opener Phil Simmons speaking about Virat said:
“The thing that excites me the most is how he adjusts from the wicket 2-3 days ago. It just shows his attitude.” But the amazing Kohi is a human after all. Towards the end of his innings, he was suffering from fatigue.
Despite ten other cricketers reaching the landmark before him, Kohli is the fastest out of all them. This proves what a force Virat, the “run machine” is in ODI cricket. This is a monumental achievement by Kohli if we take into account all the previous generations who have played the sport. Former Indian pacer Ajit Agarkar was all praise for Virat saying: “It is 54 less innings than the best player who got there. It is phenomenal.” Even though the pitch at Vishakpatnam had a bit of juice for the bowlers it made no difference to Kohli. He came out in the middle as he always does before exploding in the end. Virat made an unbeaten 157 off 129 balls in his record-breaking

#FIGHTFORPEACE: Professional wrestling Returns To Pakistan for round two
IMage:AFP
Following the success of Pakistan’s first International wrestling event across three cities, Pakistan’s official professional Wrestling promoters, the Ring of Pakistan has announced the launch of Ring of Pakistan Season 2k18. Founded with the aim of promoting professional wrestling in Pakistan and using the sport as an accelerator for encouraging peace, Ring of Pakistan represents an international-level platform for wrestling fans and athletes alike. The recently founded Ring of Pakistan’s multi-fold vision is to promote professional wrestling in Pakistan, to provide a platform to local athletes and enhance the international image and reputation of Pakistan. Where there was previously no formal body to promote wrestling in Pakistan, Ring of Pakistan has achieved success, recognised by the Pakistan Sports Board and working in accordance with international standards to launch Pakistan’s first professional
wrestling event. Last year’s inaugural wrestling event saw more than 20 international wrestlers come to Pakistan, including the likes of famous professional names including former WWE superstars Wade Barrett, and Carlito. This year Ring of Pakistan Season 2k18 is bigger and better, taking place at two shows over the course of a week in December, with even more international wrestlers taking part. The first show takes place at the KMC Sports Complex, Karachi on the 7th December, whilst the second show takes place in Alhamra Cultural Complex, Gaddafi, Lahore on the 9th December. Ring of Pakistan Season 2k18 will be the biggest sports entertainment event to be held in the history of Pakistan. The event will be hosted by American performing artist Jonny Loquato, who will also act as ring broadcaster and observer. Professional Wrestling is the most watched sport around the world, and has a sizable Pakistani audience,
despite being a ‘western’ sport. Wrestling has a bigger social media presence in the country than any other sport, beating even Cricket. In addition, sports play a vital role in individuals’ social development, and contribute to a healthy lifestyle. This is why in addition to establishing a strong official platform for wrestling and reforming the sport industry in Pakistan, Ring of Pakistan is using professional wrestling as a means of highlighting modern Pakistan’s status as a peaceful and sports loving nation to the rest of the world. The event is a symbol of community cohesion and promotes peace and harmony within the country through sport. With opportunities and entertainment for young people lacking within Pakistan, particularly within deprived areas such as the tribal belt, they have previously been vulnerable to exploitation and radicalisation. By holding a truly international event in the country for a hugely popular sport like wrestling, Ring of Pakistan has been able to give confidence to
young people and a sense of inclusion.
Furthermore, Ring of Pakistan’s ultimate aim to work with schools to inspire local youth will help to create the next generation of athletes and secure Pakistan’s status abroad as a sporting nation. Speaking about the Ring of Pakistan, Imran Shah, Director said“We are very excited about the Ring of Pakistan hosting another international wrestling
event this December. After the success of our inaugural event, it is clear that there is a huge appetite for professional wrestling within Pakistan, and we look forward to expanding this platform even further with an event that is even bigger and better than the first. As the most watched live sport in the world, we believe that professional wrestling is a uniquely powerful sport that can help to bring the nation together, and project the image of a sports-loving Pakistan around the world.”

Manchester United and Arsenal shared the spoils in a thrilling 2-2 draw at Old Trafford
Liverpool closed back to within two points of Premier League leaders Manchester City by coming from behind to beat Burnley 3-1 as Manchester United and Arsenal shared the spoils in a thrilling 2-2 draw at Old Trafford. Wolves also overturned an early deficit to inflict just Chelsea's second defeat of the season in a 2-1 win at Molineux, allowing Tottenham to move back up to third with a comfortable 3-1 win over Southampton. Chelsea and Arsenal are now tied on 31 points in fourth, still eight clear of United in eighth. Given the relentless pace being set by City at the top of the table, Liverpool couldn't afford any slip ups at Turf Moor despite Jurgen Klopp making seven changes with Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino left on the bench and Sadio Mane missing through injury. Their firepower was badly missed as Liverpool laboured in the first-half and went behind early in the second. A huge error by 67 million pounds ($75 million) goalkeeper Alisson Becker for Burnley's shock opener when Jack Cork bundled home after the Brazilian fumbled in the wet conditions.
Amid an underperforming side this season, goalkeeper David de Gea has remained in almost impeccable form, but the Spaniard spilled Shkodran Mustafi's header over the line to hand Arsenal the lead 26 minutes in. Four minutes later the hosts levelled when Anthony Martial turned home Ander Herrera's cross after Bernd Leno saved Marcos Rojo's cross.
"We played very well for 55 minutes and then suddenly we were another team," bemoaned Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri. Raul Jimenez and Diogo Jota struck in a four-minute spell either side of the hour mark.
Spurs go third
"This doesn't mean all the problems are solved. It means we have to maintain these standards," said Wolves manager Nuno Espirito Santo.
Both second-half goals came in a crazy minute as firstly Rojo turned the ball off Alexandre Lacazette and into the United net in his attempts to make a last-ditch tackle.
Spurs took advantage of Chelsea and Arsenal dropping points to move back up to third with a comfortable 3-1 win over Southampton, whose new manager Ralph Hasenhuttl watched on from the
stands at Wembley. Harry Kane turned home Christian Eriksen's cross to give Tottenham a half-time lead before Lucas Moura and Son Heung-min scored twice in four minutes after the break to bounce back from a painful North London derby defeat to Arsenal on Sunday. Fulham edged to within a point of safety despite blowing the lead in a 1-1 draw with Leicester. Honours were also even in a 1-1 draw between Everton and Newcastle as Richarlison cancelled out Salomon Rondon's opener.
"We scored four goals and drew 2-2! As always we made mistakes and we paid for the mistakes," said United manager Jose Mourinho. "Today was more the same, but with great spirit and people ready to have a go and fight hard, it was a credit to the team."
However, the visitors quickly rallied to stretch their unbeaten start to the league season to 15 games.
Arsenal were barely done celebrating when the ball was in the net at the other end as a misunderstanding between Sead Kolasinac and Leno allowed Jesse Lingard to nip in and equalise.
James Milner levelled just after the hour mark and then turned provider for Firmino to turn the game around just three minutes after coming on as a substitute before Xherdan Shaqiri sealed the three points late on.
De Gea redeemed himself with two fine saves from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Henrikh Mkhitaryan also had a late Arsenal goal ruled out for offside.
"The character we showed after going behind, to come back in that fashion is what we expect from this team," said Milner.
Wolves registered their first win in seven games despite going behind to Ruben Loftus-Cheek's 18th minute opener for Chelsea.
