In classes like anatomy, zSpace allows students to conduct research that they’ve never been able to do before. “Like most schools, I don’t have cadavers in my class. Students can learn anatomy in 2D, but when you dissect something with zSpace and see the layers in 3D, it makes the form and function of biological systems so much more real to them,” said Gibson.

Gibson has also seen how zSpace ignites students’ curiosity and communication “We did some work on chewing and the masseter muscle and how it produces electrical activity,” she said. “Students were touching the muscle on their own faces and then examining it in zSpace and starting dialogues with one another. I heard a lot of kids saying things like, ‘Oh, that makes sense.’ It increases understanding and at the same time sparks a lot of curiosity and encourages the students to explore.”

Currently, teachers in the Moreau science department are using the pre-loaded lessons and assessments that come with zSpace. Over the summer and next school year, the team plans to take units home to create new lessons and customize projects. “What I like about zSpace is that you can use it out of the bo or really take the time to learn what it can do,” said Gibson. “Eventually, we wan students to learn to create projects on their own and challenge themselves.”

Overall, Gibson knows that zSpace furthers the school’s mission of developing 21st-century learners. “The administration really supports this technology because they can see how it’s going to evolve and what it’s adding to the school she said. “It’s a versatile tool, and I’m looking forward to see how else we can use it.”

THE CHALLENGE

FOUNDED IN 1997, RISSALAH COLLEGE IS AN ISLAMIC SCHOOL BASED IN WESTERN SYDNEY. THE COLLEGE STRIVES TO DELIVER A HOLISTIC EDUCATION, COUPLED WITH UNIVERSAL HUMAN VALUES, IN ORDER TO CREATE THE BEST POSSIBLE LEARNING ATMOSPHERE FOR ITS STUDENTS, ENABLING THEM TO ATTAIN THEIR FULL POTENTIAL THROUGH APPROPRIATE AND DIVERSE LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES.

ASI Solutions was approached in early 2017 with the task of completely transforming the IT infrastructure of Rissalah College, Sydney. The school’s Principal, Naslie Styer, had the vision of transforming the school to be the most technically enabled Islamic School in Sydney. Working with Rissalah College’s IT Manager, Mohmmed Shaikh, and Principal Styer, ASI Solutions examined a range of solutions and environment builds that would enable the College to live it’s vision - to provide the best comprehensive educational program.

“THE AIM OF THE PROJECT WAS TO IMPROVE THE LEARNING OUTCOMES OF OUR STUDENTS IN A FUN AND INTERACTIVE MANNER.” While Rissalah was keen to completely transform their IT, keeping the budget under control was also very important. ASI Solutions were able to add value, not only financially but also in terms of level of service.

Rissalah College occupies the premises in Lakemba which it moved into at the beginning of 2011. The college today has 508 students which is a great feat considering its humble beginnings in 1997 with only 64 students. Rissalah College’s vision is to provide the best comprehensive education program of all six Key Learning Areas as stipulated by the NSW Educational Standards Authority (NESA): English, Mathematics, Science and Technology, Human Society and Its Environment (HSIE), Creative Arts and Personal Development, Health and Physical Education (PDHPE).

THE SOLUTION ASI Solutions was tasked to complete the transformation project within a 4 month period finishing in December 2017, ensuring when students and teachers alike came back to school in 2018 they were enabled like never before. ASI Solutions adopted a consultative approach during project scoping and leveraged long standing supplier relationships and presence in Education to save the college thousands of dollars in hardware and services costs. To make the transition easier for teachers, ASI Solutions held two Promethean Panel training days which were further complimented by an additional two Apple Professional Learning sessions with ASI’s National Education Training Manager, Grania Pourbozorgi. National Education Manager, Michael Eggenhuizen and Education Account Executive, Haroon Rashid spent numerous days on site and were readily available to support and advice teachers and students on using the Apple iPads and Promethean Panels. The scope of work included a complete upgrade from projection units to Promethean V5 Interactive Panels which required the removal of old projectors, installation, configuration and staff enablement for the new panels. This extended further to include advice around access points, fibre networking, switches, storage, managed services for Firewall maintenance and management.

PROVEN INDUSTRY EXPERIENCE TECHNICAL EXPERTISE RETURN ON INVESTMENT THE BENEFITS ASI Solutions worked closely with Rissalah College through the entire project life-cycle from discovery to implementation and training resulting in an extremely positive customer experience and ongoing partnership. Collaboration was key to the success experienced. ASI involved industry experts from a technical and enablement perspective throughout the project to ensure all education applications were implemented and working as per the school’s needs. In order to continue to further integrate STEM learning into the classroom, ASI Solutions is continuing visits to the school to ensure their IT journey is on track, be it technical support to ensure system updates are installed seamlessly or ongoing professional development and training for the teachers. ASI Solution’s depth of industry experience meant we were able to provide guidance and solution sets that not only addressed the immediate challenges but also ongoing support to introduce STEM learning into classrooms. Every student at Rissalah College has access to an Apple 5th Generation 32GB Wi-Fi iPad which is fully interactive with the Promethean LED panels in all classrooms. All classrooms are equipped with a sturdy trolley where the iPads are stored and charged.

King Park Public School was fortunate to engage in the recent Promethean ActivPanel and ActivConnect introduction presented by ASI’s Education Training Manager – Grania Pourbozorgi. This filled the teachers with excitement as they were upskilled and engaged in the possibilities associated with the newly installed interactive panels. Through the quality demonstration, teachers were shown opportunities that will enhance whole class or group teaching with the tools embedded within the interactive panel. We now aim, through future learning opportunities, to increase both teacher and student involvement. This will be facilitated by enhanced technological learning experiences that highly engage students through working on the interactive board. 1 Day Teacher Resource Workshop*

This practical workshop provides teachers with an opportunity to apply the knowledge and skills gained in the previous modules to enhance or create teaching and learning content, aligned to the curriculum that can be integrated into their classroom utilising technology throughout the school. Teachers are encouraged to work in Years groups or Stages and bring with them their teaching and learning programs from which this workshop will then encourage them to alter, adjust and create new learning experiences that utilise technology in an effective, engaging and innovative way with the support and assistance of the trainer at hand.
