Dr. Kate Museum depicts the country doctor, Dr. Kate Pelham Newcomb, and the vital role in the history of Wisconsin’s Great Northwoods. She is remembered as “The Angel on Snowshoes” for her dedication in reaching patients when the winter roads were impassable. Dr. Kate spearheaded a movement to build a hospital in tiny Woodruff. The lowly penny became the symbol of the project when local school children sought to collect a million of them for Dr. Kate’s hospital. Visitors can view the 1954 Ralph Edwards’ telecast of Dr. Kate: This is Your Life; learn the inspiring story of Dr. Kate, Angel On Snowshoes; view memorabilia from the 1953 and 1954 Million Penny Parades; learn the story of the World’s Largest Penny; view displays about Dr.
