As the calendar continues to flip right into the holiday season, a traditionally busy time dedicated to family and celebration, I find myself taking time to slow down and reflect. Now more than ever, I feel blessed and grateful for all I have. The past few months have been an emotional rollercoaster, making this holiday issue extra special to us.

We had big plans for our first-ever RED event, but Mother Nature had other ideas. With severe weather sweeping through Tampa Bay (not once but twice) and a State of Emergency declared, we had to hit the brakes on our red-carpet dreams and focus our hearts and thoughts on everyone affected.

In the face of chaos and devastation, I’ve been absolutely blown away by the resilience and incredible relief efforts. I watched neighbors, volunteers, churches, first responders, and small business owners show up for each other. These everyday heroes teamed up like a superhero squad, proving that the goodness in humanity shines brightest in tough times. The local love was nothing short of inspiring!

In our fast-paced, 24-hour news world, I urge you all to take a moment to appreciate the heartwarming stories in our holiday issue. These articles are a beautiful blueprint for empowerment, inspiration, and resilience. I am in awe of the human spirit and the vital role that

connection, purpose, and meaning play in our lives.

While the storms may have thrown us a curveball, they’ve only made us stronger and more united to face what’s ahead with Ask Us Beauty. How to Stay Consistent With Your

Fitness Goals

Let’s be real – the holidays are basically a landmine for your fitness goals. Between family gatherings, big dinners, and tempting desserts, it can feel impossible to stay on track. But I’m here to tell you that you can enjoy the holiday season without completely abandoning your fitness routine. The trick? Balance—a little bit of flexibility and a whole lot of self-compassion.

First things first, ditch the all-or-nothing mindset. We’ve all been there, thinking that if we can’t fit in our full workout or eat 100% clean, we may as well throw in the towel. Nope! The key is to focus on consistency, not perfection. Maybe you can’t get to the gym for your usual hour-long session, but can you squeeze in a quick 20-minute workout at home? Or take a quick walk after that big holiday meal? Small efforts add up, and keeping your body moving, even in little ways, helps you stay in the game.

Plan, but don’t be rigid. The holidays are hectic, so a super strict fitness plan might not fly. Instead, build a more flexible schedule. Look at your week, figure out where you can realistically fit in some exercise, and stick to it. Don’t stress if things don’t go perfectly. If you miss a workout, don’t beat yourself up – just pick it up the next day.

Prioritize what you can control. Holiday parties might be packed with indulgent foods, and that’s totally okay. You’re allowed to enjoy it! The trick is to balance it out with healthier choices when you can. Start your day with a nutritious breakfast so you’re not ravenous later, or drink plenty of water between cocktails. You can enjoy Grandma’s famous pie and still feel good about your choices.

Find ways to make fitness fun. One of the best ways to stay consistent is to enjoy what you’re doing. Take advantage of holiday traditions that get you moving—ice skating, hiking with the family, or even a friendly game of football. Make it part of your celebration, and you won’t feel like you’re “working out.”

Lastly, be kind to yourself. The holidays are a time to enjoy life, connect with the ones you love, and, yes, indulge a little. If you go a little overboard at a holiday dinner, that doesn’t mean you’ve ruined your goals. Remember, fitness is a long-term journey; a few indulgent days won’t undo all your hard work.

So go ahead, enjoy the holidays, and know that with a little balance and consistency, you can keep crushing those fitness goals without missing out on all the fun.

Sweet Cinnamon Sugar Palmier

Directions

Sweet Cinnamon Sugar Palmier

Ingredients

Allow dough to thaw.

Mix 1 cup sugar and 3 teaspoons cinnamon.

Sprinkle Cinnamon sugar mix on counter.

Roll out dough in cinnamon sugar with a rolling pin.

Add the remaining cinnamon sugar to top of dough, ensuring you cover all the dough.

Roll long edge toward middle. Once you reach middle, stop and repeat with the other rectangular side; gently press the two rolls together.

Wrap the rolled dough in plastic wrap and allow dough to chill in refrigerator for at least 15 minutes, and up to an hour. (Can store in freezer for several months and pull out to bake later.

Remove from refrigerator and cut dough into ½ inch thick slices.

Prepare a cookie sheet with parchment paper and place slices 2 inches apart.

Bake in a 400 degree oven for 15 minutes. If necessary rotate your pan halfway through to ensure the slices are golden brown.

Serve warm or allow to cool, delicious either way.

Pimento Cheese Pimento Cheese

Ingredients

2 cups shredded extra-sharp Cheddar cheese

½ cup mayonnaise

1 (4 ounce) jar diced pimento, drained

¼ cup of sweet and zesty pickles diced

1 Tbs of sweet and zesty pickle juice

¼ teaspoon garlic powder

¼ teaspoon ground cayenne pepper (optional)

¼ teaspoon onion powder

salt and black pepper to taste

Directions

In a mixing bowl combine cheese, mayonnaise, pimento, pickles, garlic powder, onion powder, and cayenne pepper.

Mix until thoroughly combined.3. Sprinkle Cinnamon sugar mix on counter.

Add salt and pepper to taste.

Enjoy!

Pay attention during the informed consent process—it can reveal how knowledgeable and transparent they are. If a provider dismisses risks or guarantees perfect outcomes, it’s a red flag. Ultimately, you want someone who prioritizes your safety and has the expertise to deliver great care.

M3 TIPS for Navigating Hot-Button Topics During the Holidays

y hope is that your holiday gatherings are full of festive fun and holiday cheer with loved ones. But given the endless list of current hot-button topics, the potential for heated discussions at the dinner table is higher than ever. To keep your holidays merry and bright, here are three tips for navigating challenging conversations.

1. Promote what you support and believe in rather than bashing another position. Contribute to discussion not division by staying focused and factual. If you feel strongly that giraffes make the best pets and that walruses are terrible pets, focus your energy on advocating for giraffes as pets rather than squashing someone else’s dream of having a pet walrus.

2. Control your reaction. A hot-button topic is a subject people have strong feelings about, including yourself. Focus on your own reaction, which is what you can control (vs. another’s reaction). Your word is most powerful when stated in a way that’s calm, assertive, and controlled. Think before you speak. If you feel yourself became emotional and wanting to react inappropriately (name-calling, screaming, physical aggression), use calming exercises, watch your tone, and know when to walk away.

3. Set clear boundaries. If you know that Uncle Bob, an aggressive and outspoken giraffe-loather, will be at the family celebration, prepare yourself. While there are situations where using your voice is empowering, helpful, and even necessary, there are

other situations where there’s truly no benefit and, instead, it can cause problems and possibly lead to the kind of silent night that nobody wants.

When setting boundaries, I recommend the traffic light method. Start with a gentle boundary, a green light boundary, such as changing the subject. When Uncle Bob pounces with, “Are you still being an idiot and pushing that giraffe thing,” pivot the direction of the conversation. “Uncle Bob! How’s stamp collecting going? Any good finds lately?” If Uncle Bob doesn’t take the hint (the green light boundary isn’t effective) and replies, “You and those stupid giraffes,” proceed with a yellow light boundary. “I’m not comfortable talking about this. Let’s change the subject.” If Uncle Bob persists, escalate to a red light boundary. A red light boundary involves a consequence. The consequence is an action YOU will take. “If this conversation continues, I’m going to leave and go for a walk.” You set boundaries to protect yourself. You have no control over how someone else responds to your boundary which is why you need to be prepared to set a consequence.

Remember, you can be respectful without agreeing. Use short, powerful statements such as, “I see it differently,” “I don’t want to discuss this,” and “Now isn’t the time.” There are few topics worth losing relationships over. Using these strategies, you’ll create moments of connection rather than conflict.

If many family discussions turn into disputes, consider individual or family therapy to develop tools to manage these relationships and communicate more effectively.

Donating to Charity: This is the perfect time to support a local or global charity. You can donate money or goods to places like food banks, shelters, or toy drives in your neighborhood. What you get back will always be greater than what you give.

Making kindness fun: There is no better time than the holidays to enjoy yourself. Spend time with your loved ones. Do more family adventures together. Share your acts of kindness with others and watch the ripple effect spread smiles across your community.

Small Town, Big Heart

It’s been one heck of a year for our neighbors in Coastal Florida and Western North Carolina. Unprecedented hurricane activity and devastating floods have destroyed homes and entire towns, leaving behind mountains of both rubble and grief. Helene and Milton, their respective war paths, and what’s left of all they’ve left behind dominated news cycles for weeks before all but disappearing as election coverage reclaimed center stage.

But the struggles of folks in affected communities haven’t gone away and won’t for some time. In fact, many are still recovering from the hurricane-inflicted challenges they incurred last year. The work is never truly done.

While federal aid is essential to disaster relief, the efforts of local non-profit organizations are at the heart and soul of healing these communities in their time of greatest need.

Crystal River, Citrus County, Florida

United Way of Citrus County is a four-person team that rallies anything and everything for their community members. Whether they’re collecting dollars to fund relief programs or donning work gloves, muck boots,

and safety goggles to clear debris or rip out flooring, they’re getting the job done. They’ve facilitated food drives and free stores, distributed clean-up gear and supplies, and provided financial assistance for housing, gas, and medical costs.

“People just respond where they see a need,” says Madelyn Russel, Vice President of Operations for United Way of Citrus County. “This has always been a very supportive, hard-working, roll-up-your-sleeves, do-whatever-it-takes community. To be the boots on the ground and witness the devastation and loss has been heartbreaking and humbling, but seeing our people coming together and loving one another is incredibly touching. It’s been an emotional journey.”

Thanks to the leadership and heart of United Way of Citrus County, neighbors have begun rebuilding their homes and lives. Generous corporate and individual donors have given graciously, and the organization continues to welcome financial gifts to fund the long

Asheville, Buncombe County, North Carolina

Eblen Charities has been helping families in Asheville and throughout Buncombe County for over 30 years. Their financial assistance programs cover needs ranging from rent and mortgage assistance and utilities to gas and transportation and a wide array of medical costs. While these services are typically extended to those struggling with poverty, the tragically unexpected and horrific consequences of Hurricane Helene have opened the service floodgates to include anyone who needs help.

In addition to financial assistance, the team at Eblen also organizes giveaway events, winter clothing and blanket drives, a Thanksgiving meal giveaway, and a free holiday gift store, just to name a few. In the wake of Helene’s destruction, Eblen has also

become an epicenter of giving, facilitating the collection and distribution of supplies, essential personal items, and even pet food.

“There is a lot of heart in this community,” says Beth Russo, Executive Director of Eblen Charities. “Folks are working together to dig out buildings and, unfortunately, bodies, offering rides and taking in families; even restaurants are sending hot meals— the good stuff, too! We’ve had donations from $5 up to $40,000, which tells me that every person who can give even just a little something is chipping in. There’s been so much kindness and compassion, and that just reaffirms my belief that people, at their core, are compassionate and good.”

HOW... Small Town, Big Heart

INSPIRED ME TO START MY OWN BUSINESS

’ve been with AUB from the beginning. EIC Extraordinaire Michelle hired me to write the “Grey Hair Don’t Care” piece for the inaugural issue in the summer of 2021, and I’ve been slinging words and hustling edits ever since.

Shortly after releasing our third issue, New Beginnings featuring Jenny McCarthy, Michelle called me and asked if I wanted to take over the Small Town, Big Heart segment. The answer was easy: abso-freakin’-lutely. I didn’t know it then, but making Small Town, Big Heart my baby would change my life.

For almost two years now, I’ve had the tremendous honor of discovering, getting to know, and writing about women-owned businesses and female entrepreneurs across the country for every issue of AUB. This work has taken me to tight-knit communities from Montana to Maine. It’s afforded me the pleasure of speaking to non-profit leaders, boutique owners, florists, estheticians, artists, and community members who care for one another.

In and of itself, writing Small Town, Big Heart has been immensely rewarding. But it’s also taught me something about myself and led me in a direction I never thought I’d take.

A few months ago, I was at a professional impasse. Faced with a bit of uncertainty, I began reflecting on my career—the things I loved and the things I could live without. I quickly realized that one of the highlights of my career had been Small Town, Big Heart. Sure, I’ve enjoyed the writing, but I’ve

treasured working with small business owners and telling their stories.

And then it hit me. I knew exactly what I wanted to do. I would take my love for words, my marketing experience, and my passion for small business and create an agency where storytelling has the power to build both brands and communities. I would make marketing a more poetic and communal experience. So, I founded Poesy Co. LLC, a boutique content marketing firm. Two years of meeting with small business owners have motivated me to become one myself, something I never thought would be true for me.

I’m telling you this, dear reader, not to promote my business but to thank you. Thank you for reading. Thank you for being on this journey with me and the AUB team. Thank you for supporting women in small business.

Robyn Schall’s story is a testament to resilience, humor, and the transformative power of authenticity. From overcoming childhood challenges to becoming a viral sensation, Robyn has built a career on laughter, connection, and the ability to stay true to herself. Her journey is proof that life’s toughest moments often lead to its greatest triumphs.

Diagnosed with Perthes disease at just six years old, Robyn spent much of her childhood in leg braces and enduring multiple surgeries. Immobile for months at a time, she missed out on many typical childhood experiences. Yet, she remembers that period as one of joy, thanks to her family’s humor and incredible support. “My family never let me feel left out,” she recalls. “Comedy became my medicine.” Unable to attend school regularly, Robyn found solace in sitcoms and talk shows. Shows like The Rosie O’Donnell Show and Welcome Back Kotter weren’t just entertainment, they were lifelines and dream makers: “Those funny people gave me a reason to laugh. I wanted to grow up and be what they were for me.”

This love for comedy shaped her outlook on life, but the road wasn’t easy. At 16, Robyn learned to read with the help of a loyal tutor who believed in her potential, boosted her confidence, and set her on a path to higher education and, eventually, the stage.

Robyn’s rise to stardom didn’t happen overnight. For years, she hustled in the stand-up circuit, enduring countless rejections. “Rejection is part of life,” she says. “It’s about not giving up and trusting that what’s meant for you will happen.” Her big break came during the pandemic when she posted a TikTok video humorously reflecting on her failed 2020 goals. At the time, she was struggling. “I was live-streaming for 30 people, broke, and unsure how I’d make rent. But I kept showing up.” The video went viral overnight, garnering millions of views and praise from celebrities like Oprah Winfrey and Jennifer Garner. “I was at my lowest, but that moment changed everything,” Robyn says.

One of Robyn’s goals for this year was to land on the cover of a magazine, and with Ask Us Beauty Magazine’s holiday issue, she proudly checked that off her list. During the shoot, she faced a test of her confidence. The photo shoot initially featured Robyn in a chic trench coat, but as the day unfolded, she embraced the unexpected opportunity to reveal a bolder, more confident side, turning the moment into an empowering celebration of self-acceptance. “Standing on that rooftop in lingerie, I felt powerful,” she shares. “Confidence isn’t about being fearless, it’s about doing the scary thing anyway. That’s where the real magic happens.”

For Robyn, this milestone was deeply personal. As someone who had struggled with body image, stepping into a moment of unapologetic selfacceptance felt transformative. “I want everyone to have that moment of feeling confident, beautiful, and enough,” she says.

While Robyn’s viral fame has brought her new opportunities, the heart of her journey remains her connection to others. Her relationship with her mom is one of her most cherished anchors.

“My mom’s advice, ‘No quitting today, maybe tomorrow’, has carried me through so many tough times,” she says. Robyn is also deeply grateful for her fans, who she credits for keeping her going. “From tipping during my early live streams to sending me messages about how my videos helped them through chemo or loss, they inspire me every day. I have the best fans in the world.”

Her commitment to giving back is equally central to who she is. Whether raising funds for animal rescues or supporting the Ronald McDonald House, Robyn views her platform as an opportunity to make a difference. “Making people laugh is my gift, but helping others is my purpose.”

Robyn’s advice for those looking to build confidence is simple yet profound: embrace imperfection. “Stop worrying about being perfect. People don’t want perfect, they want real,” she says. Whether she’s posting the wrong link to a live show or laughing about her cooking mishaps, Robyn has built a brand on relatability. For anyone struggling to find their confidence, she suggests starting small. “Do something that scares you every day. Confidence comes from doing the things you think you can’t.” And her biggest tip? Write down your goals. “You can’t achieve what you don’t see. Writing your dreams is the first step to making them real.”

As Robyn looks ahead to 2025, her goals include writing a book, performing in larger venues, and continuing her work as a social media correspondent for The Kelly Clarkson Show. But at the core of all

her aspirations is a simple desire: to make people laugh and feel seen. Her journey from a young girl in leg braces to a viral comedy sensation isn’t just about success, it’s about the power of showing up, staying authentic, and using humor to navigate life’s toughest moments.

Robyn’s definition of beauty is as authentic as she is. “Beauty is confidence ~ inside and out,” she says. “It’s about being a good person, standing tall, and owning who you are. Q&A with Robyn Schall

Let’s start with confidence. It really shines through in everything you do. Can you talk about where that comes from?

I think confidence is two parts. One, it’s faking it. Honestly, a lot of my confidence is such a fraud! But when you push yourself to do something scary, the confidence comes after. Growing up, I wasn’t confident, I had leg braces, missed a lot of school, and didn’t learn to read until I was 16. But I had to fake it. By pretending I was confident, I ended up doing things that were scary. Accomplishing those things made me truly confident. It’s like when I went bungee jumping in New Zealand ~ it was terrifying, but afterward, I felt incredible because I had done it. It’s the same with everything, like that lingerie photo shoot. I thought, “I’m doing this even though it’s scary,” and afterward, when I saw the pictures, I thought, “Wow, I look good.” That’s where the real confidence comes from.

Is there anything your followers might be surprised to learn about you?

I’m pretty open, so there’s not much they don’t know. I share everything from my worst dates to how much Miralax I use. But maybe they don’t realize the extent of my anxiety. I live with it every day. It’s so normal to me that even tying my shoes makes me anxious. But in a way, it’s almost a blessing because I’m used to dealing with it. So when something really anxietyinducing happens, I think, “This is just my normal.”

What do you hope your fans take away from following your journey?

I hope they see it’s great to be yourself. My fans watch me fail all the time ~ whether it’s cooking disasters, bad dates, or embarrassing moments, we laugh together. It’s all embraced, and that’s the takeaway: you don’t have to be perfect. The best way to be great at something is to be yourself because no one can be better at being you than you.

Was there anyone who inspired you to create the content you do?

Growing up, funny people were my medicine. I didn’t go to school much because of Perthes disease, so I stayed up late watching sitcoms and daytime talk shows. Shows like The Rosie O’Donnell Show and Comic Relief with Whoopi Goldberg and Robin Williams gave me so much comfort and joy that I wanted to grow up doing that for others. Now, my fans inspire me. They remind me why I do what I do. When someone tells me my videos got them through chemo or helped them cope with loss, it motivates me to keep going.

How do you balance being funny and relatable while also connecting on a deeper level with your audience?

Comedy and tragedy go hand in hand. Comedy is tragedy plus time. I’ve found that being myself and showing up authentically is what connects most with people. It’s also the easiest for me because I don’t have to keep up a façade. When people see me succeed and struggle as myself, that’s when they embrace me the most.

Is there anything you won’t share in your act or on social media?

I respect the boundaries of the people I love. If a friend or family member doesn’t want to be featured, I won’t share anything about them. I also protect my mental health, so I avoid topics that I know will invite arguments or negativity. Beyond that, I’m pretty much an open book. Embarrassment is part of the fun!

Is there anything your followers might be surprised to learn about you?

What do you hope your fans take away from following your journey?

Joy is the central theme of this issue. What brings you the most joy during the holiday season, and how do you share that feeling with your audience? This is easy. People bring me the most joy during the holidays. From laughing with my followers to spending time with my family and friends, I cherish these moments. I go live every New Year’s Eve on Instagram, and it’s always my favorite way to ring in the new year because I am surrounded by a thousand people ready to love and laugh. On New Year’s Day morning, I walk along the beach with my dad, a tradition we have cherished for 30 years. When I’m with people who make me happy, I am filled with joy.

Are there any holiday traditions or meaningful ways of giving back that you’ve shared with your followers? How have they responded? Even more than humor, my followers are known for their huge and generous hearts. All year, they are ready and eager to give back. In that sense, all year feels like a holiday of giving. From raising $34,000 for The Ronald McDonald House this year to working with multiple animal rescues, they never stop. Just last week, kicking off the holidays, we held our 4th annual Robyn’s Roses. That’s where I hand out roses to strangers in the park to make them smile, and at the same time, my followers perform acts of kindness to put a burst of good energy into the world. This is always my favorite thing I do with them. Thousands participate from all around the globe. This year, we had over 30 countries involved. The acts of kindness ranged from donating to a charity to helping a neighbor with their groceries. It really is so awesome to witness and makes me so proud of the people I have surrounded myself with online.

The holidays can be a time of inspiration for many. What inspires you most during this season? I find the excitement of a new start inspires me. I have always loved New Year’s. It’s a moment to say, “What happened is behind me, and anything is possible for

what lies ahead.” I like to enter every year believing, THIS WILL BE THE BEST YEAR YET.

How has your perspective on the holidays changed as you’ve grown, both personally and professionally? I’m not sure it has. I have always viewed the holidays as a time to be around people I love, and that has not changed. However, there are a lot more people I love now, so there are even more to spend time with. Professionally, I have always worked around the holidays. As a comedian, when others are off, that is our time to be on. Weekends, nights, and holidays are our hours. I get joy from being the person who helps others laugh through the holidays. For many people, the holidays are really difficult, and if I can be a small source of happiness, that is my greatest pleasure.

How do you create lasting memories with your friends, family, or followers during the holidays? Laughter! I don’t always remember what I wore on the holidays or what I ate, but I’ll always remember who I laughed with. All my favorite memories with my loved ones are deeply rooted in laughter!
