Why time-sensitive networking is critical in IIoT Ensuring that data is transmitted in a timely and reliable manner becomes critical. This is where time-sensitive networking can come in handy.
How location data can benefit various vertical markets In the age of IoT, information such as location-based data can offer insights that can help end users with related planning, marketing and decision-making objectives.
EDITOR’S NOTE IoT and AI Bring Innovations to Smart Cities A lot of new innovations for smart living and entertainment caught people’s attention at CES this year. Another new theme for the show this year was smart cities. With the prediction of widespread 5G and AI technologies — machine learning and deep learning, the industry experts forecast the adoption of these smart technologies will make cities more intelligent and safe. Most importantly, with less traffic jams, and buildings and big infrastructures able to save a lot on energy and fuel costs, people can start to live more smartly and healthily. In Asia Pacific, many countries are strengthening its network infrastructures for smart cities. According to Frost & Sullivan, the total spending on IoT devices in the Asia-Pacific region was US$10 billion in 2014 and will reach $59 billion by 2020. In the report, South Korea and Singapore are among the top five countries in the world with the highest adoption of IoT devices. From the IoT adoption rate to smart cities development, we also see competition among Asian cities to become smart. India and China are the ones that seem more aggressive with smart city development. However, Singapore is still ahead of these countries to become the leader in Asia, in terms of a smart city. In the next decade, we can see how these Asian cities compete and adopt new technologies for being smart.

In access control, the “what you are” factor, namely biometrics, is quickly gaining popularity among end-user entities, not just in Asia but throughout the world. More and more, multimodal biometrics, or using two modalities – such as fingerprint and face – to authenticate instead of one, are being deployed due to the flexibility and extra layer of security that they bring.
Building automation systems have certainly grown in popularity and this growth trajectory is expected to continue in the next few years. As users are pushing to get the most bang out of their buck, these systems are becoming efficient tools for them to integrate disparate systems, increasing overall security as well as driving down operational costs and energy wastage.

ITA, a solution provider for air transport communications, has announced that the trial program of facial recognition technology at the Brisbane Airport has reduced processing time for boarding and check-in by 70 percent, according to Australian Aviation magazine. The trial program, which features SITA Smart Path using facial recognition technology at check-in and at the boarding gate, was launched in March 2017. During the trial, passengers heading across the Tasman Sea from Brisbane flying Air New Zealand would approach a self-service check-in kiosk, which creates a “single secure token” with biometrics — the passenger’s face — that is linked to the

passenger’s travel documents. In this way, come boarding time, passengers simply have to walk through an automated boarding gate with facial recognition technology to verify their identities without the need to present a boarding pass, a passport or any other travel documents. Sumesh Patel, President of SITA Asia Pacific, told Australian Aviation that the initial findings have shown the application of biometric technologies to help reduce processing time from check-in to boarding by about 70 percent. “But the challenge is how do we reconcile the passengers’ demand for an efficient and seamless journey with the increasing need for effective security," said Patel, adding that the answer lies in biometrics. The increasing use of self-service kiosks by airlines and airports has become a worldwide trend. According to SITA’s 2017 Air Transport IT Trends Insights report,

airports around the world were projected to spend US$8.4 billion on IT-related matters in 2017, compared to $7 billion actual spending in 2016, which represents a 20-percent jump. The same report also found that 97 percent of airlines planned to offer check-in, boarding and flight status notifications via mobile devices by 2020. Moreover, as the report points out, industry forecasts show that the number of air travelers will exceed seven billion a year by 2035, compared to about 3.5 billion a year at present, with the major growth being expected to be seen in the Asia Pacific region. In this context, the use of automated or self-service options will become more important than ever. Patel told Australian Aviation that while there will always be a need for staff-assisted options for check-in, bag drop, border processing and boarding for passengers with special needs, the overall trend was for more self-service, not less.
an Evolis card printer to print the new addresses when they move. To accommodate the numerous card design variations, Evolis developed a specific scanner which is integrated into every printer. This scanner analyzes the card images, and determines the size and positioning of the text box. It also recognizes the orientation of the inserted card, so that however the user inserts the card, it will make automatic adjustments to print the text in the right place.
“One of the lowest scores in terms of passenger satisfaction is when they go through the passport check or when they are physically stopped or when there is a physical contact,” said Patel, adding that SITA’s internal survey has revealed that the passenger experience is much higher when they use the self-service. The first phase of the Brisbane Airport trial involved the use of facial recognition biometrics only at check-in and boarding, but Patel told Australian Aviation that the technology would soon be used at automated bag drop kiosks as well as for border control. He said that SITA already had the bag drop feature integrated, and that the company plans to put the system to trial in Q1 2018. As for immigration, Patel told the magazine that SITA is working with the Australian authorities to integrate that function into the same infrastructure. The advantage of such integration, he said, is that they would only have to add the facial recognition camera to the existing gates instead of replacing everything, since the database and the gates are already in place. Roel Hellemons, GM for Strategic Planning and Development at the Brisbane Airport, told Australian Aviation that “a key benefit of working with SITA is its technology integrates with our existing common-use infrastructure — check-in kiosks and boarding gates — and can be used by any airline that operates on a common-use kiosk. As we progress we hope to integrate with various government systems for immigration and border checks.” Hellemons commented that the trial was a “great opportunity for passengers to help shape the future of travel.” “We’re always striving to improve the airport experience at Brisbane Airport and this trial will allow us to test and refine new technology that we hope will make standard check-in and boarding processes more efficient and secure in the very near future,” he said.

a&s talks to Daniel Lee, the new MD for the Asia Pacific region at Genetec, whose mandate is to bring fresh ideas for market penetration that are both practical and deliverable in a vast region. Drawing over two decades of experience in the IT industry, particularly in relation to hardware and software distribution, Lee has a very clear sense of where Genetec’s strengths are today and has a strategic plan for bringing Genetec’s unified physical security innovations to a broader market in 2018.
Daniel Lee, MD, APAC, Genetec
BY the a&s Editorial Team
a&s : How does APAC fit into Genetec’s global strategy and what can the company offer the region?
2018 ● www.asmag.com
Lee: Currently, well over half the world’s population lives in the Asia Pacific (APAC) region. This includes India, Japan, Korea, Indonesia, China, Australia and New Zealand. Such a large, dispersed, and densely populated area naturally presents a lot of individualized opportunities for delivering security solutions to a broad range of customers. Although Genetec, as an organization, has been in the region for the past eight years, we are increasing our investment with plans for aggressive growth in 2018. There is an incredible pool of talent at Genetec, and it makes sense to establish ourselves more fully in the area and to make our expansion into APAC part of the Genetec journey in terms of bringing technological innovation and community-building to this part of the world. We feel now is the right time to be making this investment into APAC. Genetec is a 20-year-old Canadian company that is 100-percent independent. We have achieved a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of almost 30 percent each year for the past five years. And, with our ongoing focus on providing unified physical security solutions to the market, we are establishing ourselves as more than a video surveillance company. Since Genetec solutions are built on an open architecture, we can facilitate integration and support for third-party software and hardware sensor devices. We also provide application-specific solutions to a wide variety of industries, including airports, cities, enterprise and retail. In addition to providing solutions in
14
operations, intelligence, security and the cloud, Genetec has also developed a hybrid go-to market strategy that offers the option to buy via both direct channels and through systems integrators and distributors. We understand the unique challenges that each country in APAC is facing now.
a&s : How is Genetec working toward the common goal of increasing operational efficiency? Lee: When we look at the evolution of the video surveillance market, organizations here and elsewhere around the world used to think of video as simply a means to surveil and capture evidence. This was often inaccurately interpreted as a “Big Brother” narrative. What Genetec offers is the “Big Mother” model — helping customers focus on quick responses, prevention and analytics so their businesses, cities and communities can flow

“With our ongoing focus on providing unified physical security solutions to the market, we are establishing ourselves as more than a video surveillance company.” unencumbered, with utmost respect to privacy. The “Big Mother” model is about correlating data from various sources in order to help organizations and security personnel be prepared to react to any emergencies or unplanned events that may arise and mitigate damage or down time. Operational efficiency is all about getting back to normal, and protecting the everyday, so cities and communities can flow. When an organization truly understands how goods and people move through their facility or a municipality, they can make educated improvements based on the operational intelligence a unified security network provides.
System and Network Security and Cyber Accountability Because interconnection between organizations and governments has increased, when cybercriminals exploit a system vulnerability, the impact can be devastating. For example, Australia is developing very strict policies on cybersecurity, and what software and hardware systems they deploy. The government has created a signal directory that defines and names vendors whose products have questionable national origin, and thus deemed untrustworthy. The latest version of Genetec Security Center (version 5.7) comes with an auto-detection feature that will advise the end user if a camera or sensor on the network needs a firmware update. This feature insures that end users have the most up-to-date and secure firmware on their devices, removing added vulnerability to cyber-intrusion. Other industry measures are also being put in place to hold executives and organizations accountable when they are negligent to understanding cybersecurity, and fail to adequately protect their networks. The consequence of fines and criminal negligence prosecution assure greater care is taken
when deploying hardware and software to a network. Expect to see Genetec in all regions of APAC in 2018 addressing security of security, along with unified security, access control, privacy and how to benefit from correlated data analytics.
a&s : What is Genetec doing to reaffirm its commitment to customers in the region? Lee: In 2018, we plan to invest in the APAC region by building a custom-solution center in our Singapore office — staffed with skilled engineers that address changing market demands. We also have longer range growth plans to add a local R&D center in the Genetec Singapore office. With centers already located in Montréal and Paris; Singapore is a strategic global location to attract a diverse business and talent pool, and better service our local end users.
Our Business Model in APAC Of course, all of this is predicated on our knowledge of the region and its markets. Our go-to-market strategy in APAC is designed to address the specific, and varying, needs across each region. We work with distributors and systems integrators to ensure end users in all different verticals benefit from a custom, unified, open-architecture solution. We put great value in our relationships with the distributors in countries where English is not the primary language. But, whether we are working with systems integrators, distributors, or sales and technical support teams, our goal is to always empower our people to provide excellent service and expertise. At Genetec, thinking big and inquisitively is in our DNA. We are growing and investing in APAC; building technology with incredibly talented people. I am excited for what we have in store for 2018.

ypically, access control entails the use of any of the three authentication factors, namely cards/tokens (what you have), passwords (what you know) and biometrics (what you are). The person may scan their fingerprint and face to gain access." example, there will always be a certain percentage of people whose fingerprint can’t be read. Face readers, meanwhile, normally don’t perform that well when installed outdoors or exposed to bright sunlight. Adding a second biometric thus becomes a viable option. I n fac t, the growth potential of multimodal biometrics is not to be ignored. In a repor t, the research institute Technavio forecast that globally, multimodal biometric solutions would grow at a compound annual growth rate of 15 percent between 2016 and 2020.
Advantages of Multimodal Biometrics
“The majority of customers still use metal keys or cards or badges to secure their doors. If those same customers haven’t yet experienced a break-in due to misuse or loss of keys/cards, then they’d be hard-pressed to invest in new technology, for example fingerprint and face readers,” said Larry Reed, CEO of ZKAccess. “But for new installations, it becomes a no brainer. Biometrics is far more secure and convenient than keys and cards because you cannot forget, lose or have stolen your biometric credential.” In the very beginning, unimodal biometrics taking just one biometric from the user, be it finger, face, iris or palm, was common. However, increasingly users have found unimodal biometric technology limiting. In terms of fingerprint, for

ccording to Colliers International’s 2018 Asia Pacific Property Outlook report, real estate investment volumes will continue to grow due to the region’s strong economic growth and persistent low real interest rates. Demand for leased office space will remain high, says the report, especially in Hong Kong, Singapore, India and the leading Chinese cities. Under this real estate trend in APAC is a convergence of property and technology, as more and more buildings start to adopt building automation systems (BAS) — which automatically control and monitor a building’s lighting systems; heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC); and security and access control. Such adoption has changed the way we use and interact with real estate. Commercial buildings have always been the largest building category for smart system installation and application. As ABI Research predicts, the global commercial building automation market will reach US$45 billion by 2021.

The incidence of which not only poses a huge consequence on human lives, but also a burden on a country’s health, insurance and legal systems. This inadvertently takes a huge toll on the country’s economy as well, typically costing countries 3 percent of their gross domestic product (or up to 5 percent in low- and middle-income countries) as stated by a report by the World Health Organization (WHO). Due to these widespread adverse implications, countries are now waking up to the importance of improving road safety and are making it a high priority in their development agenda. This holds particularly true for the Middle East region. In previous years, this part of the world has been listed as having the second highest road traffic fatality rate in the world after Africa, with reports stating that car accidents are the leading cause of mortality among the younger population. A WHO report classified most of the East Mediterranean countries as having poor traffic data collection and accuracy, another even ranked the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) 23rd globally in terms of deaths due to road accidents. This poor road safety performance has become a

Yearly Review and Preview:
Optimism Prevails in Global Security
Another year has gone by. As we bid farewell to 2017, it’s time to review some of the events and happenings in security this year. It was a growth year indeed, with Memoori pointing the total value of physical security products at factory gate prices in 2017 was US$29.2 billion, an increase of approximately 5 percent on 2016. Terrorist incidents like those in London earlier this year and in New York later this year have made us all the more aware of the indispensable role that security plays in our lives. But at the same time, the conversation in the industry has shifted from standalone products to smart solutions that help users secure as well as achieve tangible business outcomes. While different regions in the world are set apart by different characteristics and needs, it can be said that the outlook for the industry remains upbeat in 2018 and in subsequent years. and technology advancements. Asia is characterized by safe city and smart city initiatives. Europe, meanwhile, is bracing themselves for the implementation of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) in May 2018.
North America I n terms of the mark et, Nor th America had a size of US$25.9 billion in 2016, and the figure is forecast to grow to $43.4 billion by 2021 at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 10.8 percent, according to MarketsandMarkets. This trend is confirmed by security players as they expressed upbeat sentiment about the North American market. Terrorism and other physical threats continue to be a main driver. Two recent attacks in New York, one with a man allegedly running people over with a pickup truck and the other with a man detonating a bomb strapped to his body, all emphasized the importance of keeping people and assets from harm’s way. At the same time, cybersecurity has gained equal attention amid increased cyberattacks against end-user organizations. Another growth driver is the need for compliance. Some examples include standards formulated by the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) and the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) regulating the utility
industry, and the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) ensuring that all companies that accept, process, store or transmit credit card information maintain a secure environment. These regulations force end-user organizations to purchase and invest in security. “Regulatory compliance is one of the most significant drivers in these verticals. Customers are looking to comply with state, local and federal regulations, and to do so, they are investing heavily in security technologies,” said Tony Varco, VP of Security at Convergint Technologies. “In hospitality specifically, there has been an uptick in the necessity of security systems both for surveillance purposes, as well as for staff safety. Several states have implemented new laws which require hotels to provide their staff with panic buttons, to ensure their safety as they service guestrooms,” said Bill Lally, President of Mode:Green.
Prevailing Technologies Some of the prevailing technology seen this year and going into next year include the use of cloud for on-premise and off-premise security management, the popularity of subscription-based ser vice, the deployment of virtual security operation centers, and the H.265 compression technology to optimize transmission of ultra high-definition video. Meanwhile, organizations using security for non-security applications have become more common, thanks to data,

analytics and interoperability between systems. “Security devices can be incorporated into an automation system in a hotel or restaurant environment to simplify operations. By combining the security features into the same interface where the energy, lighting or entertainment devices are managed, staff can more easily utilize both systems, or they could be coordinated to interact,” Lally said. “A singular interface optimizes the investment and ensures that the systems will be fully used, as well as providing these additional benefits.” “We recently provided an airline with a solution involving several hundred cameras, and I was very surprised to find that those cameras were being used for purposes beyond just physical security. They were being used, in combination with analytics, for training purposes, tarmac safety, and customer service. These uses go above and beyond traditional physical security,” Varco said. “This is about helping customers create business outcomes. Once you have the data from these systems, what do you do with that data? What problems do you solve? Focusing on those business outcomes provides customers with a return on investment.”
is the issue of commoditization. With camera prices falling lower and lower, selling a solution rather than a product has become the only way to go. “If you look at trends within camera pricing, what we have to address is how to respond to commoditization. Convergint’s approach to that is a significant focus on higher-level advanced solutions and professional services,” Varco said. “We don’t talk about selling cameras to customers. We talk about selling compliance, selling risk mitigation, and selling solutions. It’s important to move away from selling commodities and move into providing enterprise-level solutions.” As for next year, growth is expected to continue in North America as the market influencers found in 2017 will remain in place. “We’re blessed to be in this industry. The security industry overall is absolutely incredible,” Varco said. “We’re experiencing double-digit growth, and we see the outlook, not only for 2018 but well into the future, to be positive, both within North America and globally.”

VIEWPOINT
Security Technology Trends: A Look Back and Forward Trends don’t start and stop simply as one year ends and a new one starts, and many if not all of the topics in 2017 will still have an impact in 2018. But no doubt new trends and issues will emerge in 2018, from edge computing to virtual assistants to blockchain’s application beyond cryptocurrency. And, of course, the data privacy implications as GDPR comes into effect will be something all organizations will need to deal with. BY Johan Paulsson, CTO, Axis Communications
Trends That Defined the Industry in 2017 As 2018 begins, we look forward to what the year might hold for the security sector. But while looking forward is obviously important in planning for success, it’s also worthwhile to look back at the past year and see which trends emerged that we either anticipated, or appeared unforeseen.
Cybersecurity, the Perennial Issue
2018 ● www.asmag.com
In many ways, we can’t really call cybersecurity a trend: it’s now a constant concern for security professionals. Cybercriminals are ever more sophisticated and well-resourced, and tirelessly look to exploit vulnerabilities in technology across all industry sectors. The proliferation of devices connected to the network — the now familiar Internet of Things (IoT) — means that billions of new network access points have been created, each of which, to the cybercriminal, represents an opportunity. Throughout the year, we have highlighted many cybersecurity issues and the ways that businesses can defend themselves against threats, and as we move into 2018, all organizations will need to be vigilant and have ongoing processes in place to ensure the highest levels of cybersecurity.
The Re-Birth of Video Analytics We saw increased use and sophistication of video analytics during 2017. Video surveillance has previously been purely focused on security-driven applications, but today the analysis of visual data from modern network cameras supports a wide range of functions. Whether used in retail for store optimization and enhancement of the customer experience, in planning smart cities, as a drive toward more sustainable

indication of the growing interest in using connected devices and data to improve and enhance the quality of life, safety and security in urban environments. Overall attendance at the event increased significantly and the breadth of organizational functions represented was striking. And while there still seems to be an inconsistent understanding of how to define a smart city, the number of actual cities exhibiting to showcase their smart city credentials shows that the effective use of connected devices and the data they create is becoming an important part of a city’s global reputation and marketing. However, it still seems that many functions within cities are acting in separate silos: it is only when data is shared seamlessly across all departments and functions that the true value and benefits to citizens will be realized.
Security as a Service
"When some of the most impressive demonstrations of the application of deep learning have been related to image interpretation, speech recognition and decision support, the potential for analytics in the safety and security sector are obvious."
Over the last year, we have seen an increased momentum toward security as a service, with remote hosting and monitoring of video transmitted from a customer’s premises, and the solution managed by a sector-specific specialist. Such models remove a significant management burden, not only freeing up resource, but resulting in an improved level of service, better device management and strengthened cybersecurity. But even if we have seen uptake in the market in 2017, the real growth is yet to come.
A Move Toward Solutions, Not Product
business, or even protecting endangered rhinos in South Africa, the greater ability to analyze the feed of data from network cameras will affect all sectors in the future. In addition, using new, non-visual sensors, the view will become multidimensional, providing a richness of data — with the appropriate analytics — that will enable for more rapid and accurate assessment of situations and, therefore, faster escalation, the activation of an appropriate response and the minimization of false alarms.
Smart City Growth The recent Smart City Expo World Congress, held in Barcelona, was a clear
The growth in analytics — and the added insight and value this delivers to organizations in specific sectors — is closely related to another of the trends we predicted at the end of 2016: a move toward integrated solutions rather than specific products. The retail sector is a great example, where we now talk to customers about solutions for store optimization (including specific elements like queue management) and loss prevention rather than specific products. It’s something we’re seeing across all sectors — from education to banking — a desire to solve key business issues and enhance operations, rather than buy a selection of hardware and, in doing so, improving the system reliability, performance and total cost of ownership (TCO).
The Potential for Deep Learning In all sectors, one of the hot technology topics in 2017 has been artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning. A related area where we saw some initial exploration of in the security sector, and which shows enormous potential, is deep learning. Currently related to the growth in analytics, and the vast amounts of additional data that this is creating. At a relatively basic level, deep learning applications will improve video motion detection, facial recognition, individual tracking and suppression of false alarms. It will aid system design, configuration, optimization and device management. Beyond this, as applications develop, there is significant opportunity for predictive analytics leading to incident prevention: from terrorist incidents to slip and fall accidents; from traffic issues to shoplifting. It is still early days, however. Development is currently fast and unpredictable, and the demands on processing power are massive, but the potential for deep learning, which may ultimately lead to autonomous systems, is huge.

Smart Home Market to Grow 13.6% Annually Over Next Five Years
T
he global smart home market was valued at US$55 billion in 2016 and is predicted to grow 13.6 percent per year between 2017 and 2023, reaching a value of $137.9 billion by 2023, according to Markets and Markets. The growth can be attributed to advancements in technologies such as the IoT; growing need for convenience, safety and security among consumers; and increased need for energy conservation and low carbon emission-oriented solutions. The market for smart homes in North America accounted for the largest share in 2016, mainly due to rising demand for reliable home energy management systems, improved home security levels and growing integration of smart devices such as tablets and smartphones into smart home solutions. The market in Asia Pacific is poised to grow at the highest rate over the forecast period. Improved economies, rising population and better standards of living are contributing to this growth.
16% of US Homes to be Smart by End of 2017 2018 ● www.asmag.com
A
ccording to a recent report by Insurance Quotes, only 16.3 percent of homes in the U.S. are expected to be “smart” by the end of 2017. There are roughly 123 million homes in the U.S. — 20 million are smart homes. The report forecast this number will increase 35.6 percent to 35 million homes.
56
By definition, a home is smart when it is equipped with more than one connected device that can be controlled through a home hub or a mobile app. The drive for smart home adoption was not modest last year — 45 percent of homeowners renovating their properties installed smart systems or devices. Most of them added security systems (25
percent), followed by entertainment (18 percent), climate control (14 percent) and lighting systems (12 percent). According to the report, 42 percent of respondents attributed high cost as the main reason preventing them from having a smart home.
Smart Home Hub Market to Grow at 5% Over Next Five Years
T
he global smart home hub market is expected to go beyond 3.9 million units, growing at an annual rate of 5.4 percent between 2016 and 2022, according to a report by Research and Markets. The increase in per capita income and the number of dual-income households constitute the basis of increasing spending on innovative devices such as smart home hubs. Apart from increasing demand from developed markets, factors such as the integration of voiceassistance technology in household appliances
and enhanced marketing and visibility of these products online have also contributed to market growth. The global smart home hub market is dominated by vendors that have an international presence. Many international players are expected to expand their presence worldwide and gain market share during the forecast period, especially in the fastdeveloping countries in APAC and Latin America. Major vendors mentioned in the report include Flex (Wink Labs), LG Electronics and Samsung.
Demand for Smart Home Products Surge Across the UK
D
emand for smart home products is booming in the U.K. Smart hubs are expected to become the most sought-after product in the next few months, according to a report from Maplin, a UK specialist technology retailer. Almost a quarter (24 percent) of people in the U.K. own a smart home product. This uplift in demand has been reflected in Maplin’s sales of smart home technology, which has jumped 135 percent year-on-year. Consumers who bought smart home products spent an average of US$240 on the technology over the past year. With 71 percent
of consumers thinking of buying their first or additional smart home products, the smart home market in the U.K. has the potential to be worth more than $8.3 billion a year, according to Maplin’s in-house data. The survey also found that consumers view leaving the lights on (46 percent) and forgetting to switch off plugs (37 percent) to be the top concerns in the home that can be solved with smart technology. Because they offer a solution to these problems, smart plugs have become Maplin’s best-selling smart product, with smart lighting as the fourth best seller.
Indian Smart Home Market Sees Significant Growth Over Past Three Years
T
he smart home market in India has grown significantly in the last three years, according to the India Smart Home Market Overview, 2017-2022 report by Research and Markets. The smart home market, which consists of three main segments, has seen a higher adoption ratio of automation in the hospitality sector. The reason is obvious since premium hotels need to provide
sophisticated luxuries to their customers. Though the share of the commercial segment is very small, it has registered the highest growth rate in the last few years. The residential market, on the other hand, is moving in an upward direction at an even pace. The smart home market in India has witnessed tremendous growth in terms of value as well as volume. A few years
ago home automation was considered a product/service for rich people, since the cost of automation is not suitable for most people in the country. Nonetheless, even though there are people who can easily afford automation solutions, the overall adoption ratio is still negligible.
