Abstract Cities undergo transition due to the evolution that happens regularly and city’s architecture too responds to the change. Transition brings enormous opportunities of growth, development, expansion, improvement of the social and urban fabric. Urban centers lie at the root of an important- and often neglected- source of emissions: Deforestation. Cutting of trees leads to the accumulation of greenhouse gases which poses an increasing threat that leads to unfavorable climatic patterns. Deforestation and pollution have become a serious trouble and are even more of a concern in big cities with the air quality being constantly deteriorated by the fumes from vehicle and industries. And while the pollution is increasing, the green cover required to combat is decreasing mainly to clear space for human settlement. Hence, our cities are turning into concrete jungles with the quality of air decreasing. To combat this a new idea has been developed around the world, Vertical forest or a Tree scraper. This thesis includes the study of growth pattern in urban setups and the environmental impacts along with the psychological impacts it has on the life of people living in cities. Also a proposal of design intervention with the concept of urban vertical forests in commercial setups facilitating the sustainable growth and development of the ecosystem. “Mumbai” like many major cities in the developing world, Mumbai faces numerous problems; in particular, the city cannot keep up with the rapid urbanisation. It is the financial capital of the country and the first largest urban area in the country.
Design Evolution
Concept OUTCOMES OF URBANISATION:
•
Lack of connection with nature for working and living in congested developed districts.
•
Immense Land Pressure which leads to smaller chunk of lands with dense infrastructure, housing dense population.
•
Which inturn leads to high energy demands.
Design Ideology •
Urbanisation is a layer that is directly linked to the development of any city.
•
So the crux of the design idea is to add a more sustainable layer tht will maintain the urban language, yet better the current scenario without hampering/ straining the current process. Natural Human psychology from the beginning of time has been feeling a sense of belonging when closer to nature. To incorporate a sense of belonging with the nature even after being way above and detached from the natural environment is the whole motto of this project.

Why Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC)? Though BKC has earned the title of a CBD, there are still many challenges it faces. Like lack of public spaces, recreational zone, and heavy amount of infrastructure which has some environmental impacts. Though the MMRDA has envisaged a `Smart BKC' plan and when executed, it would be the first brown field Smart City project in India and would be positioned as a globally benchmarked intelligent financial district by 2025. The concept of URBAN FOREST will add another layer to it, more like compliment the initiative and might even work as a prototype towards a sustainable approach.

The massing of the building is done considering the orientation of the site. The Longitudnal sides have a bigger surface area and window openings in the East-West Orientation. Aso the west facade is road facing.
The Demassing of the structure has been done in the North- South Orientation and the Auditorium is zoned in the South since it will not require any natural ventilation and light.
The vertical circulation is in the front. The whole planning is symetric.
The Open terraces will be utilised for extra curricular activities for the students overlooking the rich dense natural context, with minimal infrastructure.

Landscape Design Type- Academic Location- Orchha, Madhya Pradesh Brief-Orchha a religious town has been long identified for its historical temples, Raja Ram Temple and Chaturbhuj Temple. Both the temples are connected via a common public place/plaza which becomes the central point for public activities and gatherings. The Plaza is connected by streets to the state highway and the public parking area with few streets leading to the internal town roads. This landscape intervention aimed at making optimum utilisation of the plaza for the locals as well as creating an acctraction for the tourists Semester- 6 /2016 Mentor - Ar. Smit Goghari

Concept • • • • • •
The original inspirtion of the planning has been taken from the concept of the yantra. The center of the yantra is the power-point from which the entire diagram expands, the radiating source of energy that generates all forms. It is called Bindu, the first drop, which spreads unfolds, and expands into the tangible realm of the universe. In this central plaza the central Bindu is the viewing deck at the centre which will make for a delightful experience for the tourist to appreciate the rich heritage beauty of the context. The rest of the planning is spreading out in concentric circular manner with reference to the central deck. The site is exactly in the centre of surrounded by Chatturbhuj temple in south, Raja Ram temple in the west, Orchha palace across the road in east, palkhi mahal, Phool baug and Hardaul ki baithak in North west area.

The sloping roof highlights the design, which is in contrast to the existing buildings around. Also keeping in mind the heavy rainfall in mumbai sloping roofs are a very convinient option which is not usually used in its architecture today.

Landscape and Green spaces is the key element of the entire design. Pocket green spaces have been incorporated in and outside the structure. Elements such as bridges connectiong two structures and wide windows throughout the structure create visual connectivity not only within the site but also with the surrounding context. The Sloping roofs too add a change to the architecture compared to the typical tall prototype high rise building. The key motto for this design ideology was to create a connectivity with the nature in the concrete filled grey city yet blending it in with Second Floor Plan the functionality of the sturcture.
