AFTER TRAINING REFLECTION NOTES

Follow effective action with quiet reflection. From the quiet reflection will come even more effective action.

Fell free to rint and fill in after lessons

LET'S START Description You just got off your horse. What did you do today? What was the content of your lesson/training session/hack/ride?

No analysing here - just write what you are reflecting on today, use relevant details and state facts.

Feelings Jot down your thoughts on following questions How did you feel and what did you think before and during your session?

What was your horse's mental state before and during training?

How did you react during the session?

How did your horse react during the training?

How did you feel and what did you think after the experience?

Evaluation What went well and what went badly during your session?

Which exercises worked and which ones didn't?

How did the session end? Were the problems resolved or not? Did your instructor encourage you to reflect on the experience?

Remember not to analyse anything just yet, simply formulate positive and/or negative judgements about the session.

Analysis OK, now it's time to analyse and reconsider everything above that went well and not so well (separately).

Write down the possible causes of each good/bad action and jot down your thoughts on consequences of these actions What could you have done to achieve positive outcome?

What could you have done about the things that went well to make them even better?

Ask simple questions starting with: why?, so what? what if?

Conclusion Now ask yourself: What should or could I have done differently? What stopped me from doing this?

What did I learn about myself during the experience (positive and/or negative)? What did I learn about my current knowledge or level of riding skills (strengths and weaknesses)? Have this session contributed to me achieving my goals/improving my skills?

Action Plan Now it's time to think about the next lesson/ride.

Ask yourself : What can I do to prepare better for my riding session in the future? What do I need to do to improve on the positive elements further? What questions can I ask of my instructor before I get on?

This is a statement part - just jot some thoughts on a/b/c that can be done to make you less likely to make the same mistakes and more likely to better your skills next time.
