The Norfolk Southern Railroad is reinstating passenger trains through Virginia allowing for a new terminal to be designed in the busy downtown of Roanoke. This passenger terminal is not only for train transit, but also a local and national bus terminal.

The town of Floyd is known for its rich culture stemming from Celtic immigrants long ago. The town has many artisans and troubadours who flock to its streets on Fridays for a weekly jamboree. This project is to house studio space along with gallery space for a selected local craft.

The structure consists of timber framing on a 10’x10’ grid where the walls deviate from the grid transitions to steel mullions.

This craft center is made up of two buildings using external circulation that remains enclosed to the site. The first floor utilizes a horizontal lattice sun shade, but the upper decks remain open.

Located on the main intersection of Floyd, this site overlooks the Blue Ridge Mountains. Studies with different levels and decks were explored to utilize the views for both artists and public.
Located in the Czech Republic a study began on the city of Prague where the Vltava River flows under the cites 100 bridges. While in Prague all common devices were put aside and rudimentary skills were depended on. All drawings were freehand and measurements were done in paces, arm, and hand converted into metric units. In order to become familiar with Prague, mapping studies were done along with historical studies. The site located in Old Town Prague was previously occupied by the town hall offices and a printing press, currently it is empty due to an accidental bombing by the United States in 1945.

In order to implement the use of these variations, analysing El Paso and its climate was crucial. From the El Paso studies a focus on sporting events was chosen for this cultural center. Here people of all ages could come and consort about sports, creating a stronger network for the athletic community. N

This active floor plan combines the premise of sports and the use of horizontal light wells. As a multifunctional event space, sectioning into tiered floors was convenient way to separate occupancy uses. The site location had available space in which to capture light beneficial for the use of the diverse envelope system.

As a continuation to the main Cultural Center, a mobile pavilion was designed to bring awareness to the community of El Paso. The site chosen to place the pavilion was near a high school stadium denoting the theme of the center. Also carried through to the mobile pavilion is the concept of sorting light. Implemented through the use of perforated canvas, that depending on the tension within the canvas, opens and closes the diamond shaped vents.

The silent wings museum located in Lubbock, TX is in need of larger facilities to house the growing collection of World War II relics. Consulting with the client on the desired sizing for each room along with proper dimensioning for loading/handling areas, was a major part of this project. Another key factor was researching museum temperature, humidity, glazing700’ code requirements for each room the client requested.

This modern structure was designed to facilitate the need for environmentally friendly transportation within the city of Lubbock. The central bike hub is located near the university as well as popular local businesses. This bicycle interchange system is a convenient maintenance shop, retail store, and secure bike racks. The building also provides fully equipped locker rooms for network users.

Site exploration began with circulation diagrams of pedestrian and vehicle activity in the area. Diagram influenced physical study models, of surface and building placement, were created. The transition from physical to digital iterations assisted in final building design.
Selecting a site for a bike node began with mapping frequented areas within Lubbock. Once this site was chosen counterpoints were placed in which path and circulation were arranged. The hierarchy of the site is also enhanced by shading device sizing. The shading devices are equipped with seating and bike racks. Across the site light cranes are placed which also serve as hydraulic bike racks.

The site creates different views that uncover expressive aspects of surrounding areas. There is an intent of intrigue with the oversized light cranes drawing people to the site. Placement of shading devices are directed toward busy moments in the local area.

Starting layout developed through making orthographic projection drawings of a chosen object, that is then disassembled to create internal drawings. These freehand drawings are superimposed, forming an intricate layout. The transformation of the project guidelines results in a graceful structure.

Beginning with in depth research on Craig Ellwoods CSH16, a basic understanding of the layout of his house was discovered. The lack of architectural drawing availability challenged the analysis of dimensions and height of the original building. Through a series of hand drafted drawings the concept of every bay, wall, form, and function became evident. Through the evolution of this project this pristine California home became appreciated.
