When Atoms Bond

Page 1

One little atom Sitting all alone

Has eight negative electrons Which is all he owns

Feeling rather empty The atom looked with thrill

For a couple more electrons So his valence he could fill

Along float another pair Stopping by to say

“Do you need a hand with those? Or around us should these stay?”

The first atom replied, Feeling rather large

“Of course my friends— You’re welcome to this charge!”

So into his orbit The other two did throw

Their single small electron So that his orbital may grow

But when they did this They had a turn of luck

For to the first atom The other two were stuck!

Although this may seem funny Try not to ridicule

For when atoms share with others They form a molecule!
