Astrid Carolina Otero Seguí

Hello, my name is Astrid Otero and I am an aspiring fashion designer who intends to contribute her grain of sand and change the world. Like many other stories I became interested in fashion at a very early age, but what ultimately led me towards choosing a career in the industry was the possibility of helping people and perhaps alleviating certain needs through what I make. I’ve been designing and sewing since I was twelve, but it was at age fifteen that I first heard the term “social design,” which really refers to any type of work where the designer uses the design process to bring social change. Learning that changed everything for me, it showed me that there really was a space for me in the world of fashion and that merging my two passions, volunteering and fashion design, was in fact more than a career opportunity, it was a calling. I believe fashion design can be intellectual, political, an art form, and that it inherently holds cultural significance, let me show how.
