why just girls+women and why the outdoors? We know that girls and women have unique strengths and needs. Our programs balance the importance of physical challenge and risk-taking with the development of selfconfidence, courage, and leadership skills. Add in new friendships, beautiful scenery, lots of laughter, and you’ve got the perfect adventure in just your size!
Women’s Wilderness Institute is a 501c3 nonprofit, whose mission is to strengthen the courage, confidence and leadership skills of girls and women through the challenge and support of wilderness - and community-based experiences.
find your adventure
We believe our staff are,
quite simply, the best! They are caring, competent outdoor leaders who live their own authentic lives and inspire others to do the same. They know how to listen as well as to speak, and bring spark and humor to every course. Our wilderness staff are certified as Wilderness First Responders, with 80 hours of backcountry first aid training.
Safety: The Women’s Wilderness Institute uses risk management protocols that are considered “best practices in the field of adventure. At the same time, you should know that all of our courses are real wilderness experiences, and there are inherent risks whenever you venture into the mountains. Field staff will teach you how to recognize hazards and ways to handle them appropriately so you can be an active participant in keeping safe.
Thanks to support from foundations and donors we are able to offer full & partial scholarships for all of our courses for girls who qualify.
