mineral pigment, vegetable pigment & starch Since 2010, Atelier 3D couleur, the leading colour design agency in France, has been involved in an eco-friendly project in collaboration with the company IQAP, producer of masterbatch colour systems for the plastics industry. In 2011, this ideal collaboration between industry and design led to the launch of the first range of 100% natural colours for bioplastics. These biodegradable pigments, derived from mineral and vegetable sources, are combined with new technologies for the production of natural plastics based on potato starch (biotech-patented) or corn starch (polyactic acid or “PLA”). An initial range of 12 mineral shades was achieved by the precise dosing of earth pigments and ochres. The range was expanded in 2013 to include 12 new natural colours of vegetable origin. A simple, natural and eco-friendly process, has been registered with the I.N.P.I. (the French national institute for industrial property), in order to protect this unique, innovative and creative concept. These original bioplastics are natural products, all composed of constituents which are sourced from the earth. Mineral ochre, dye plants, potato starch or corn starch – these natural products are completely harmless to the environment. After use in equivalent applications to plastics derived from petrochemicals, this revolutionary plastic returns to the earth from which it came. A simple idea which makes all the difference…

This journey from mineralogy to colour and back has inspired the names given to these shades, with their durable and sustainable overtones, as a solid foundation for this range of revolutionary plastics.

Seeking to impress upon potential stakeholders in this new ecofriendly process that the industrial formulation involves a precise dosing of potato starch, corn starch, earth and water, A3DC & IQAP created the initial collection of 12 natural shades, the names of which are inspired by the colours of 12 minerals, rocks and stones, suggestive of both colour and their mineral origin.

This second series of vegetable colours offers an unparalleled range of possibilities. It comprises 12 additional shades for the expansion of the range of potential colours - these 12 colours naturally bear the names of the plants which inspired them. The company Couleurs de Plantes has been a development par tner in the agro-industrial aspects of the project, combining environment-friendliness with sustainable development. By the interplay of natural pigments, or the addition of vegetable and mineral pigments, a full range of colours can be achieved naturally. A3DC & IQAP are available to undertake any customized feasibility analysis of your specific colour requirements, whether for the reproduction of your corporate colours, your brand image, or any development project for bioproduct ranges with an ecological slant.

the flagship product golf-tees are best standard-bearers In the quest for an eco-friendly plastic, essentially formulated on the basis of natural products (potato starch, corn starch, natural colours from mineral and vegetable sources, etc.), A3DC, experts in natural colours, and its partner IQAP, experts in bioplastics, have pursued their search for an emblematic product which would reflect this quest. A range of coloured golf tees has been chosen as the standard-bearer for this environment-friendly process. This is a pleasingly appropriate choice. Planted in the ground, and helping eco-conscious players to achieve the perfect swing, natural golf tees will biodegrade if forgotten or lost, and can be left in the ground accordingly. Dissolved by the action or rainwater or sprinkling water, sunlight and mineral organisms which cause no environmental contamination or damage to the soil, this product can return to the earth from which it came. As is a genuine bioplastic, economic and industrial stakeholders can participate jointly in an eco-friendly process, with a core commitment to its integration in their product designs‌ and their future golf courses.

the applications Pure speculation, perhaps, but we can dream. Might it not be possible to conceive a brand, the positioning and advertising of which are in harmony with the environment, using entirely natural bioplastic colorants for the presentation, packaging, protection and enhancement of products and the promotion of an eco-conscious image? Is this imaginative and conceptual idealism, or simply a vision for the future? Today, any conscientious industrial operator with a commitment to ecofriendly operation, recycling and respect for the environment must surely recognize the relevance of the innovative process, as a 100% natural, non-polluting and biodegradable colouring solution. The plastics industry, producers of disposable goods, economic and industrial stakeholders, conscious of the fact that an alternative process is possible and in the interests of respect for nature, the human race and human health, are directly affected by this responsible and highly promising initiative, which chimes perfectly with the expectations of consumers. The field of applications is unlimited, and points us towards the future‌

the material is a mastermix of exceptionally high quality, produced from potato starch or corn starch, totally biodegradable, non-polluting and environmentfriendly, for use in plastics technology or plastic processing applications. Available in a range of 24 colours, all obtained by mixing with natural pigments, is the first bio-degradable and natural plastic which is completely harmless. An ingenious combination of starches, water, mineral and vegetable pigments - the fruit of the soil and of technology - this is a new material of infinite potential, eco-friendly, clean and recyclable. This product is completely harmless to the environment. IQAP can guarantee the application of an environment-friendly industrial process. The IQAP development department is at your disposal to undertake
any technical feasibility analysis‌ Colour experts at Atelier 3D couleur will help you to select and create the colours you need for your projects. These technical and creative solutions are both innovative and natural.
the technique From plastic films of the finest tracing film or tissue grade, just a few microns thick, even finer than tissue paper itself, though to processing, injectionmoulding and thermoforming, die-stamping and printing, natural plastic produced from our mastermixes can adapt to any technical requirements associated with the conventional industrial plastics production process. Consult your plastics engineer or your usual processor for any analysis of the technical adaptability of this new material to your project. The resulting solution will then be analyzed and validated in consultation with IQAP, who will remain your industrial contact in this area. It should be noted that, if the alternative bioplastic solution to plastics derived from petrochemicals is not operationally feasible for your products, natural colours are 100% compatible with existing plastics, in up to 260° processing. For the analysis of colours in terms of marketing, market trends and effective creative choices, designers and colourists at A3DC are at your service for the analysis of your requirements, and for the creation, reproduction, formulation and development of tailor-made colour ranges. Whether vegetable pigments or mineral pigments, a natural solution for the satisfaction of your requirements will always be available‌
