LEARNING OUTCOMES 1.
Project 1 of this module is to adapt the on-site observation and identify the architectural features. I have classified the historical structure of the Shop House No. 9 through a vignette of sketches using water colour, ink pen and pencil.
2.
Therefore, to know further on the architectural historic structure, it yields a documenting method to specify the terms adorned with the traditional beliefs and customs. I have been able to recognise, thus recall the elements and features of the historical structure.
3.
Throughout Project 1, it gave me a wide scope on viewing each built spaces within their cultural heritage. Hence, each space is an interpretation extracted from their cultural inheritance being passed down for over eight generations since the arrival of the Chinese migrants to Malacca.
[ARC 1215 METHOD OF DOCUMENTATION & MEASURED DRAWINGS]
4. Furthermore, the historical structure influenced by the various colonial styles and the typical mingnan archi tecture, indeed put an impact towards the urban setting. Thriving the days of modernism, the shop house is a valuable possession not only to its prestige street ad dress but to the city of Ma lacca itself. It relates back to the current generation bringing far greater knowl edge on history to appre ciate its value and aspects for further restoration project studies. 5.
These values are put into account conveying depth to capture the tangible and intangible essences contained within the architecture realm.

PROJECT 2: MEASURED DRAWINGS
[ARC 1215 METHOD OF DOCUMENTATION & MEASURED DRAWINGS]
LEARNING OUTCOMES 1.
As for Project 2, appropriate methods are carried out to document the architectural historic information of building elements.
2.
Thus, a measure of techniques is adapted on-site to obtain precise measurements as well as collecting data of the historical features and aspects of the shop house.
3.
Architectural details and elements are recorded as observed and the as-built building constructions are portrayed in CAD drawings for a clearer understanding of the structural components.

MEASURED DRAWINGS 4.
The recorded data are then interpreted in detailed isometric drawings extracting the elements of the structure. It comprehends the ways of how the building was built based on the information obtained for further understanding.
5. Throughout Project 2, the fieldwork was executed in Jonker Street, Malacca with hands-on measurement exercise and interviews with the owner and the sur roundings. 6.
Therefore, a set of scaled drawings are produced for the final production of Project 2.
7.
A report highlighting the historical significance of Malacca as a Heritage Site along with the building being influenced by its colonial past is documented for full research on our Project 2 Study.

PROJECT 3: R E P O R T
[ARC 1215 METHOD OF DOCUMENTATION & MEASURED DRAWINGS]
LEARNING OUTCOMES 1.
For Project 3, a report is produced to compile our research and findings of the cultural approach to wards traditional architec ture. The architectural his toric structure indeed was a profound building filled with intricate details over building elements and spatial organisations. Thus I was able to recognise and record it for the re port. 2.
Diagrams, timelines, images and sketches are used as visual basics to provide clearer understanding & views on topics related to the architectural history.

Top from left: From a simple carving on the skirting of the altar, the bat translates such detail into an auspicious connotation: “Happiness has arrived”; Furthermore, “a bat descending from the sky” (fuzi tianlai 蝠子天来) bears resemblance to the pronunciation of “happiness descends from heaven” (fuzi tianlai 福子天来).An elevation of the Venetian teak-framed glass mirror hung in a tilt position with floral carvings reflecting the perimeters to ward off evil spirits and also believed to make hidden spirits visible; View of the reception hall with traditional Chinese lanterns indicating “Chee Family” and the family’s emblem ruixing, with images of four of the Eight Immortals. Second row from left: Gilded ceramic tile with The Chung-Li Ch‘üan & The Man with the Blackthorn Staff Painting - Chung-Li Ch‘üan, the first of the eight immortals sitting on the left holding his garlanded emblem; the magical fan. Chung-Li Ch‘üan symbolises longevity, which have been said to discover the idea of elixir of life; The CAD drawing with dimensions in mm. REPORT 3.
In terms of methodology carrying the research, a field of literacy reviews, illustrated books, online articles and interviews are used as the applications to obtain information for further knowledge.
4.
Throughout the project study, I have observed that the cultural inheritance conveyed in the rooms and spaces defines an in depth meanings of Chinese tradi tions. From how the Blackwood furniture is organised to the type of ornaments used in a specific room. 5.
In order to produce an architectural historic document, detailed findings on the recorded data to obtain meanings and definitons of ornaments, materials and building element is crucial as it needs to be accurate. The report is divided into history, ownership, design concept, space planning, building elements and changes and development.
6.
Built with typical mingnan architecture of Fujian province, the Chee residence is flourished with Taoism literacy and meanings portraying the Eight Immortals and their deities. The relationship between architecture and the significance of the building is how the spatial layout is built with courtyards and auxiliary rooms. Based on Feng Shui, it affects the inhabitants with great flow of energy avoiding the negative energy ‘ch’i’.
