FAMOUS PEOPLE, FAMILIAR FACES & DIAGRAMMATIC ABSTRACTION

Ricardo Agraz, a Mexican architect who had his focus to endure the architectural spaces & elements to create the understanding of clien’s preferences with relation to the site context. Agraz Arquitectos by Ricardo Agraz, designed the HG House with a patio & skylight claiming as its signature elements in building a house. It is a proof that Agraz Arquitectos is a binomial of design & aesthethics, efficiency & functionality based on history of site & client’s priority. Built in 2009, this 5,877 sq ft is a 2 story house located in Jalisco, Mexico. The concept is modern minamalist where the spaces are open with single divisions.

Spaces are created with architectural elements based on the architectonics of solid, planes, lines & frames.

PROJECT 2 TEA FOR TWO

TEA PAVILION, MIDDLE EAST

Project 2 Tea for Two is a group of 2 team mates on the understanding concept of a simple space planning for a tea drinking pavilion based on a specific tea drinking activity. LEARNING OUTCOMES: Tea for Two drinking pavilion is built within the volume of 3 x 3 x 3 meter. It is designed based on a chosen tea culture. My team mate & I have selected the Middle East to emphasise on the tea culture therefore extract the activities to form the structure. The tea pavilion is a place to rejuvenate & relax inclusive of the spatial planning of furniture, appliances, fenestration & circulation for adequate access. Project 2 is to generate space & form with the implication of architectural conceptualisation & proposition by exploring both of our design intentions & skills.

The ideas are extracted from what is captured at the site surrounding merging with the characteristics of Middle East. The geometrical outlook of middle-eastern designs also portrays the PRESENTATION BOARDS heavy & light which is extracted from the tea drinking method, that the ‘Koshary’ in the North & ‘Saiidi’ at the South. It revolves around the living habitat of a spiderweb, tree branches & the pattern of a leaf.

PROJECT 3a SITE ANALYSIS The site analysis is to identify and analyse the site, Sungai Palas Boh Tea Plantation Centre, to explore the context for the Tea Plantation Retreat. In a group, we were divided into sub-groups to collect data for Project 3.

LEARNING OUTCOMES: Project 3a is an experience in recording important data as well as information during our site visit to Cameron Highlands, pertaining to our project. Throughout the site investigation, I further the study & made my research on the Landscape area found on site. I have done a ‘nature scanning’ to familiar myself with the plants, the vegetation. Ranging from ferns, shrubs, flowers and trees, the vegetation plays an important role towards understanding how the growth & life span will effect the structure to be built on the site. The surrounding is essential as it is an approach to illustrate the site & relate it to my exploration of architectural space making based on the schemes of connecting the natural & built environment of site drainage.

DIGITAL PRINT POSTCARDS

The Creature Scanning is the second part of Project 3 where the exploration is observed on site to study on characteristics of living organism, located at Sungai Palas Boh Tea Plantation Centre & Tanah Tinggi Cameron Highlands.

LEARNING OUTCOMES: Project 3b is the creature scanning expressed through 5 digital print postcards & 5 free hand expression postcards. I have chosen five different ‘creatures’ located at the Tanah Tinggi Cameron on each 5 digital frames which I find unique and is expressed richly through depictions of digital prints. Furthermore, the digital prints are then ‘scanned’ to entail analysis collected from the ‘creatures’ digital prints. I have extracted the analysis & translate it into 5 free hand expression which shows the abstract depiction of details. The development of these 5 digital prints & 5 free hand expression postcards are to act as the concept generator as a process in designing the form, skin, structure, space & programme to further explore on architectural characteristics for the whole Project 3.

BIOMASS ENERGY IN MALAYSIA

Throughout the first project of Environmental Sustainable Development, I have further my research on Biomass Energy to recognise the effect of growth in our local environment and how it affects the surrounding and our economical growth.

Malaysia produces 70 million tons of biological waste of organic matter per year due to climate of high sunlight intensity and rainfall. The Palm Oil industry is the greatest distributor in Malaysia to generate biomass at 85.5%. It is renewable & does not depend on fossil fuels. Recycle Energy Sdn. Bhd, one of the Biomass Power Plant Centre located in Semenyih, Selangor operated 8 years ago to generate energy with green technology from their RRC/WtE plant.

Based on research & findings, I have identified the local climatic and environmental concerns on Biomas and how it helps to reduce the usage of energy in a more efficient way. Lastly, the idea of environmental and ecological sustainability was explored for me to understand the concept applied to prevent further damages to create awareness. The growth and its impact are demonstrated through graphical representation.

PROJECT 2 THE ART OF ADAPTATION

ANALYSIS

Project 2 is to identify the basis

The setting of the movie was mainly held in a prestigious New York City ballet dance company during an opening season of the role play of Swan Lake. Whereas the Swan Lake was a ballet performance by Pyotr Tchaikovsky, circa 1975-1876 - A story based on the Russian folk tales who portrays the character of a girl named Odette, who is a princess held under the spell of the evil sorcerer’s curse and turned into a swan.

of adaptation, which are the tools & approaches in adapting a storyline modified to suit the current or different context.

The movie Black Swan has a similar context of where the role was richly adapted by the composition of Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake. The movie, directed by Darren Aronofsky who wishes to create a conceptual idea of portraying the White Swan and Black Swan for the leading ballerina role “The Swan Queen”. Aronofsky’s intentions were to connect his viewings of the Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake ballet performance with the unrealized screenplay notion of being haunted by a double which is known as the Black Swan, where he calls ‘The Understudy’.

LEARNING OUTCOMES: Project 2, consists of 5 team members where we are assigned to apply the thematic approach & character elements based on the original storyline as a reference. We have chosen to adapt ‘The Black Swan’ based on the ballet performance ‘Swan Lake’ I have applied my understandings based on the analysis made to identify the current contextual elements that help to enhance & shape the storyline of expressing it. The themes of the adaptation acts as the reference to relate in our adaptation of re-telling the stories.

PROJECT 3 IN THE MOOD FOR LOVE RE-SYNTHESIZED: AN EXPERIMENT

'THE FLASHBACK':

The movie acts as a reference for us to explore in the current situation.

'The Flashback', an adaptation of sequence from the film In The Mood for Love, produced by Wong Kar Wai. Based on the movie, we had the idea of extracting the latter of the couple Mrs. Chan & Mr. Chow when they had found out about their spouses cheating on each other. Our approach was to mainly adapt the idea but implied it in a manner of realising the state of the occurrence. It was when Mr. Chow saw the watch on Mrs. Chan's spouse wrist and therefore struck the assumption of knowing the affair. As for Mrs. Chan, she saw the handbag held by Mr. Chow's spouse & gave a dark eye look to Mr. Chow as she knows that both of them thought of the same thing. As they were both filled with utter despair and feeling deceived, they kept it to themselves and not to reveal to reassure the thought and idea of their spouses cheating.

The tools, approaches & methodology are intepreted in our short sequence.

METHODOLOGY:

LEARNING OUTCOMES: Project 3 is an understanding of an adaptation based on an existing context. In a group of 5 team mates, our task is to adapt our short sequence from the movie In The Mood for Love’ by Wong Kar Wai. Throughout this project, I have applied my understandings to relate it to the movie, therefore modify its context as a hidden adapatation.

The methodology was to create a short sequence non-verbally to emphasise on the feeling, reactions & body language when they found out about the affair. It is an adaptation extracted to conceptualised the method of past and present of what had happened rather than what is happening.
