It's been quite a winter! Thankfully, March reminds us that our dreams of sunny days and rising temperatures is closer to being a reality. This month's covergirl is one of our new faves, Ashley Busch - US Polo player, Global Brand Ambassador of U.S. Polo Assn, Wilhelmina model and wife of NASCAR's Kurt Busch! Our shoot incorporates Spring's must haves and we get the scoop on playing polo, hanging out with Ashley and seeing what she's up to. ATHLEISURE MAG: What does it take to be a polo player? ASHLEY BUSCH: It takes a few things to be a good polo player. Of course, previous riding experience is always an advantage. To me, the most important skill is to have good hand-eye coordination. Also, the skill of the pony is just as important as the skill of the player.

AM: How has the Polo season been and what races are you looking forward to this year?
 AB: Polo season has been great so far. I played my first tournament in January and we got to the finals where we only lost by one goal. The second tournament I played in February, we won by 2 goals. So, I would say this season has been a success! I look forward to all of the races whether I'm there or watching on TV. I get really into each race because each track is different and it’s fun to see how everything transpires. One of my favorite trips is the west coast swing that we are on right now. From Vegas to Phoenix to LA. Some other tracks that I love are Bristol in Tennessee, Talladega, and Sonoma.

AM: Are there things that people don't realize in terms of coordinating the mallet and riding?

AM: As this month's cover girl of Athleisure Mag for the kickoff to our Spring Issue, what is it about this time of year that you find exciting?

AB: Most people do not realize that when we are riding we are standing up in the stirrups 90% of the time. In order to hit the ball it takes hand eye coordination. How far it goes has a lot to do with timing of where your horse is and where your mallet is in relation to the ball.

AB: I am someone that has always gravitated towards warm weather. I love that the flowers are starting to bloom and everything is warming up. I look at springtime as an opportunity to do some spring cleaning and really hone in on my goals for the year. It’s a reboot in my opinion!

AM: What are your favorite plays?

AM: The Spring is definitely a great time to add new pieces to your closet - what are some of your favorite spring must-haves that you love in your closet or will be adding to soon?

AB: There are not really any set plays or off sides in polo. Any player can go anywhere on the field. Typically, I play number 1 or number 2 and those positions are the ones that do most of the scoring which are my favorite plays of course! AM: What has been your favorite match that you have played in? AB: My favorite match was the 12 Goal tournament I won with my dad at the International Polo Club.

AB: With all the fashion weeks coming to an end, a lot of designers start putting out their spring lines, which I am always excited to see what new prints and styles are featured. I especially enjoy it because I am a designer myself and look forward to seeing what they come up with and what is trending. As far as new pieces, I am a sucker for a good pair of jeans that can be worn


from day to night and I am always looking for fun shoes to mix it up! AM: You do a lot of traveling and with NASCAR season starting back up, how do you juggle your calendar versus your days on the track to support your husband? AB: The key for us is basically just looking ahead and scheduling everything accordingly. Some races I inevitably miss because I am playing polo. Regardless, though, we are both very supportive of each other and we make it work! AM: With such a busy schedule, great skincare is essential to ensure that you always look like you have a well-rested glow - what beauty products do you swear by? AB: I typically do not wear much makeup, mainly because I am always on the go. Some of my go-to products are the La Mer oil-infused lotion to hydrate and smooth my skin. I also love Drunk Elephant's day and night serums to help balance out my skin tone. I use the Elta MD tinted moisturizer almost every day, especially when I have a polo match. It provides nice, even coverage, but more importantly has SPF to prevent wrinkles. When traveling, I always carry the Tatcha Dewy Skin Mist! I use it whenever I feel like my skin needs a little boost of hydration. AM: The last time we chatted with you, you were working on your swim line, how is that going and what can you tell us about it? AB: We are still in the creative process of my swim line and ironing out all of the details. What I can tell you is that 10% of the proceeds will go to charity, as philanthropy has always been a major part of my life. I will be posting updates on my social media as we progress and am shooting to launch this summer!

AM: When you're not training for your next polo match, designing your line, in a photoshoot or hanging out with Kurt, what can we find you doing when you're taking time for yourself? AB: In my spare time, I am most likely spending time with friends and family. I also really enjoy being at home just relaxing with my dogs. AM: When you're home, where can we find you shopping, grabbing cocktails and a drink and do you have a workout studio that you enjoy going to? AB: My go-to store to shop is Intermix. I also love to check out local boutiques in the area. In Charlotte, Kurt and I enjoy going to Sushi at the Lake for dinner and drinks. In Florida, HMF is a super cool spot. Most of the time, Kurt and I will cook dinner together at the house though. When I am in Florida, I train at the International Polo Club with polo trainers. In Charlotte, we have a personal trainer who comes to our house to workout. I also like to take aerial silk classes at Air-fit Charlotte. AM: What charities or philanthropies do you give your time to? AB: Children's National Medical Center in DC. Capital Hospice Care. Cancer Research and Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Local Humane Societies. We shot Ashley Busch in Brooklyn at the 1 Hotel Brooklyn Bridge which has geat views of Manhattan and is in a neighborhood with a number of options to enjoy. We chated with General Manager, Cornelia Samara to find out why this property is one that you should get to know as we continue into the Spring and Summer. pect when staying here generally? CORNELIA SAMARA: We currently have 1 Hotels open in South Beach, Manhattan, and most recently, here in Brooklyn. Soon guests will be able to get closer to nature in Cabo; Sanya, China; West Hollywood and Sunnyvale. While every property is unique in its design and offerings, you can always expect a home away from home, with thoughtful service and personal touches. Every 1 Hotel is designed to celebrate nature and bring touches of the outdoors inside. AM: Are there different personalities that 1 Hotels represents depending on the city/community? CS: Definitely. Each 1 Hotels property is directly influenced and inspired by their local surroundings – the natural landmarks it sits on or beside, as well as the community it is part of. 1 Hotel Brooklyn Bridge, for example, is inspired by the industrial history of the Brooklyn waterfront, and its design takes cues from the park it sits upon. AM: Specifically, tell us about 1 Hotels Brooklyn Bridge - when did it open, what is the atmosphere? CS: We opened our doors to 1 Hotel Brooklyn Bridge in February 2017, making us just recently 1 Tree Ring year old. The atmosphere at 1 Hotel Brooklyn Bridge is first and foremost welcoming, and it has a special balance of energy, liveliness in the midst of tranquility. AM: What makes the Brooklyn location one that is great for business travel, business meetings, vacations and staycations? CS: Much like Brooklyn itself, what you can experience at 1 Hotel Brooklyn Bridge is very diverse in its offerings. We operate 6 different outlets that can cater to just about every traveler, with a spa providing treatments to relax and

CS: The hotel was thoughtfully designed by INC Architecture & Design, guided by a specific vision from our founder, Barry Sternlicht, and our design team. From the beginning, we knew we wanted our guests, community and visitors to feel at home and close to nature. We like to think of our lobby a place to gather, where you can find locals and guests busy at work or socializing with friends.

AM: We saw that you offer car services to the area - why is this an amenity that was added and tell us more about it? CS: We do offer a complimentary Tesla house car for our guests, to whisk them away to destinations within 3 miles of the hotel with low-impact (it’s electric!) We chose an electric car to be our house car because it minimizes our contribution to air pollution and also gives our guests the chance to see that electric vehicles can be true replacements for gasoline powered vehicles. We hope it encourages them to take measure to reduce their own carbon footprints when they head home. AM: What can we look forward to for the Spring and the Summer that is offered at the Brooklyn Bridge location? CS: You are definitely not alone in that! There are few things better than an amazing view or being pampered. Whether you're a cleanse queen or are new to the world of cleansing - this time of year makes us think about incorporating this into our routine! This month's Something You Should Know focuses on questions we have about doing your next cleanse. We enjoyed Raw Generation's range of flavors and sat down with Jessica Rosen to find out about their brand as well as what we need to know. ATHLEISURE MAG: Tell us about the brand Raw Generation. JESSICA ROSEN: When I completed graduate school and was starting my career a little over a decade ago, I was exhausted, sick all the time, and overweight. In 2010, I lost both of my grandmothers to cancer within six months of each other. The abruptness of this loss changed my outlook on what it means to truly be healthy. I vowed to educate myself on nutrition so that I could help my loved ones lead long and healthy lives from then on. I began researching the role foods play in a person’s health, including how what you eat affects your weight, and I enrolled at The Institute of Integrative Nutrition to become a Certified Holistic Health Coach. While enrolled, I personally tested different ways of eating and found that a diet emphasizing raw foods, and more specifically raw juice, was the key to a healthier body, including weight loss. Weight loss is a major component, not only of how you feel about yourself, but how healthy you are. My father and I started developing Raw Generation early in 2012 because we saw a need for convenient foods that are truly healthy. We believe lack of time, money, or convenience, shouldn't be an excuse not to feed your body what it needs to thrive. My initial goal was only to help myself and my family, but since the beginning of 2012, I've expanded my goals to help-

ing everyone. Raw Generation's cleanses, juices, soups, and smoothies were designed for people who want to lose weight in a healthy way without counting calories, keeping track of points, or spending hours in the kitchen. AM: What happens during a cleanse and why should you do it? JR: Toxic build-up is often the cause of weight gain and disease in our bodies. Dietary cleansing draws out these toxins, allowing for inner healing and a healthier, slimmer you. Cleansing approaches the body from a fundamentally different perspective than calorie-restricted diets. Instead of counting calories and eating less, a proper cleanse is comprised of eating nutritionally abundant foods so that the body can purge toxins and wastes that accumulate in organs and weigh us down. Cleansing is a prime way to jumpstart a healthy program or a tremendous way to boost an existing healthy program. No matter which type you choose, you will see very real benefits in your body, from weight loss to clearer skin to more energy to better sleep. AM: How can someone cleanse in a healthy way? JR: Ideally, cleanses should be done at a time when there is minimal stress and physical demands. Your body will be hard at work detoxifying, and so it’s best if you are able to rest and take it easy throughout. However, if you have an athletic, active lifestyle, you can still do a cleanse! The key is, you should be sure that your daily caloric intake is adequate and that your cleanse contains a source of plant-based protein to support your body’s demands. It’s also essential that you ease into a cleanse so that it is not a shock to your system (and you avoid unpleasant detox symptoms). In the days prior, you should eat lots of whole, plant-based foods, avoid dairy, grains, fried or processed foods, sweets, artificial creamers & sweeteners, soda, & alcohol, and drink LOTS of water. Cleansing is NOT fasting.

An ideal cleanse should involve adequate caloric intake to sustain regular daily functioning, while at the same time, encouraging the body to eliminate toxic waste. This can be done in three different ways, each with varying levels of difficulty - juice cleansing, smoothie cleansing, or an all raw food cleanse (that also includes the juices and the smoothies). Various Ways to Cleanse Your Body: Juice cleansing is traditionally done for a shorter duration of time and promotes fuller cleansing at a quicker rate, while still being nutritionally sound if juice from leafy greens are a significant portion of the cleanse. Smoothie cleansing is usually easier to sustain for a longer period of time, and also promotes full cleansing, just at a slightly slower rate. As long as dark, leafy greens are included in a good portion of the smoothies, this is also nutritionally sound for longer lengths of time. Raw Food cleansing would include juices, green smoothies, and a wide variety of fruits, veggies, raw nuts and seeds to ensure adequate nutrient intake. This can also include healthy teas and other superfoods. This type of cleanse can be the most satisfying because there are a lot more options. AM: What are the various cleanse options that Raw Generation has available and how do you know which one is right for you? JR: Skinny Cleanse - Our most popular cleanse option, providing 6 coldpressed juices a day. It’s perfect for everyone who wants to jumpstart a healthier lifestyle and shed a few pounds fast. When it comes to a girl's girl, we'd add Claudia Jordan to our crew. In addition to being a hard worker (we remember her from her days as being one of Barker's Beauties on The Price is Right), is stunning and is never afraid to speak her mind! As a former BRAVO Real Housewives of Atlanta, we always loved when she kept it real with her girls. Currently she is a co-host of the Ice-T produced, The Raw Word talk show that launches this month and has had guests that have included Ludacris, Common, Tracy Morgan and more. We got the scoop on what she's up to, the show, her style and more. ATHLEISURE MAG: How did you become attached to this show, and what about it made you feel that it was aligned with what you are doing in your career? CLAUDIA JORDAN: I had recently moved back to LA, after passing an offer from “Real Housewives Of Atlanta” as a "friend of the show". I was having second thoughts on whether or not I had made the right decision. I knew I wanted to be on a talk show and I knew I wanted to be in film. I prayed on it. Out of the blue, I got a call to come in and meet with Andre Jetmir, about a possible new talk show. I went in, my heel broke in the interview and I walked out limping. I saw it as sign that something was going to come of this! AM: As the Co-Host, what can we expect from you, and what will you focus on during certain segments/stories? CJ: I love the ability to say the first thing that comes to mind when our topics come up without sounding like it's a safe and rehearsed answer. I want to continue being authentic and say what our viewers may be thinking. I think I have an almost childlike enthusiasm for life and love talking with people. I love hearing their stories and I hope people can feel my sincerity through the screen. AM: What guests should we keep an eye on that you were excited to interview?

CJ: I love interviewing anyone with an inspiring story, especially those recognized as an underdog whether they are a celebrity or not. We had Deon Cole (of ABCs Blackish) on the show, who encouraged people to keep pushing even when things get difficult. He's one of the most sought after comics in the industry, but shared that he has never booked anything he auditioned for. Things just fell into his lap that were meant to be. Writers have even written roles to fit his character. Deon’s story is inspiring and shows that never giving up is truly important. Rapper Nipsey Hussle came on the show and discussed how he came from the streets. I truly enjoyed listening to him talk about his past and really peel back the layers. I felt honored to be a part of it. I love that I have the chance to show our guests in a different light and show they are more than the boxes that they are put in to. AM: In addition to your role here, you're also an actress - do you have any films/ special projects that you can share?


CJ: Yes I do! I'm very proud of my budding acting career. I have a film with Brian White, Columbus Short and Kearia Shroeder that was directed by Dame Dash called “The List”. I think people will be surprised when they see me in this role as my character develops. I actually had to get into a coffin in a church for one of the scenes. It was amazing working along side such seasoned actors like Columbus and Brian. They made me a better actress! We start production on our next film “A Woman's Grief” in two weeks, focusing on police brutality. AM: As an entrepreneur, we know that you have your own wine, handbag line, etc. - how do you take time for yourself? CJ: Yes, I have my wine company - JUST PEACHY, my bag line - Claudia Jordan and Celfie Cosmetics - a cosmetics company that is expanding greatly in Africa. We are in two countries; Kenya and Uganda, and will be expanding this summer. I'm very excited about that. You can find my peach flavoured sparkling wine in all 276 Cost Plus World Markets. I love the flavor and I highly recommend picking up a bottle! As for

time to myself? I barely have any! AM: In LA, where can we find you shopping, grabbing lunch and a cocktail, and what is your favorite workout studio? CJ: I love being outdoors, running on the beach, or the hills at Kenneth Hahn Park. I don't like being inside at the gym unless I absolutely have to. As far as shopping, lately I've been shopping online or at the Gucci outlet! You might still find me at the swap meet as well. It all depends on my mood. I'm all about mixing the highs and the lows! For lunch, I love The Ivy in West Hollywood for their stone crab claws. For cocktails, I love Catch in West Hollywod. They have great lobster rolls


and lobster mac and cheese. For dinner, my favorite is Crustaceans, also in West Hollywood. I suggest getting the garlic noodles with the cracked crab. Thank me later! AM: How would you describe your style for brunch versus running errands? CJ: I enjoy being a woman and dressing "girly." I have a pageant background so I guess that's always going to be a part of me. I really don't own sweats and unless I’m working out, you won't catch me in a flat shoe! AM: How do you give of your time in terms of philanthropy/charity? CJ: One charity I'm supporting is “My

Friends House”, run by my friend Tiffany Rose. Her commitment to helping the homeless is inspiring. She has been doing this for years. I jump at the opportunity to spend time with those less fortunate and do what I can to help whether it's bringing food, or supporting their fundraisers. Homelessness in our nation has always hurt my heart; especially knowing so many people are one paycheck away from being on the streets. I wish there was more being done by our government to help! We kicked off the month by heading uptown to a istening party for electropop Big Beat Records' artist, Soleima whose music is the perfect way to get you ready for Spring with a hip hopand world infusion. This Danish artist chatted with us prior to her party to talk about her entry into music, her love of the collaborative scene and Copenhagen and the Scandanavian festivals that she'll be at this year! ATHLEISURE MAG: How long have you been in music? SOLEIMA: I kind of just grew up with music. I had been doing it forever. We had a piano and I grew up doing it with my mom as a child, since she played as well. I also played – she always took me to these music clubs where I was taught music and I grew up in an East African music environment. AM: We’ve been listening to your music and including it in our workouts. It has this mix of hip hop and that tribal feel to it – we are definitely fans. S: Yes! That’s what I was introduced to and I never learned the theory behind music. It was an acoustic way of learning music and for me it was the best way to learn it. So somehow, it’s always been in my life – some sort of music. AM: When did you realize that this was something that you wanted to do? S: Actually, I have been doing it as a hobby for most of my life! But then last year, I got signed and I started working on this EP with friends and we thought about putting it on SoundCloud and then we thought, let’s try to get it released. We sent it to some Danish labels and one of them wanted to release it and this was nice, but I never thought of it as a direct career opportunity. But then everything went pretty fast! I guess when an opportunity like that shows itself, you just jump

on it. So I feel like it was meant to be somehow? AM: What inspires you when you’re performing, making your videos and writing your music? S: I guess I’m very inspired by many different things. I get super inspired by other musicians. I think there are so many great ones out there right now. People doing amazing stuff. Right now in Copenhagen – where I’m from in Denmark, the music scene is very interesting. We are a very small industry and somehow we are all friends and know each other! We work together. People have a lot of stuff going on that is really interesting. Right now, we’re inspiring and motivating each other. When someone does an amazing song or has a great project going on, we’re like – “Oh that’s so good – that’s amazing. Let’s do something toegther!” We just make each other better in a positive way. I’ve always heard people talk about how in this industry when someone has something good going on that there is a feeling that there isn’t room for someone else. I’ve just never realized that in our environment in Denmark, which I think is a very healthy thing. AM: So are you currently working on other music as well? S: I’m working on an EP as well right now. It’s going to come out shortly. AM: Are you doing any touring or any festival dates? S: Yes. I am writing a lot. I was in LA for a month writing recently and I do it all the time. I have quite a few festivals. I am playing in Scandanavia, in the UK. In the UK, there will be a few shows in the Spring – a number of clubs and then over the summer, a very booked festival tour. In the fall, I am doing my


own shows which is really exciting. AM: Exciting! What’s that like concepting your own shows? S: Actually, I will have my first 2 headlining shows in Dec. I never tried to play my own shows before. We have played quite a lot together but it’s been showcases out and about. So now, that’s such an overwhelming feeling. Because now, people are there and they bought a ticket with real fucking money and like they know the songs! AM: So how do you keep your balance and check in with yourself through all of this? S: That’s such a good question! How do I stay sane? Can you teach me please? I think definitely because this is all so new, I am still in the process of learning that. With being in music, there aren’t too many inbetween feelings. There are extreme highs and there are a lot of extreme lows. So one day you’re like, “wow this happened and I like it – you’re so high and then literally the day after you get some kind of boring mail and you’re like, “no – that didn’t happen anyway” and now I have to go back to life. You know what I mean? So, it’s like a good and a bad thing – it’s very addictive and you become addicted to going into these highs and lows. It can be a bad thing because you kind of need a balance where you’re neither super excited or super depressed. So I am still learning that, but I can say that I am addicted to it already. I think it would be difficult to not be that way as well. Regarding the zen, I think I should start meditating – can you teach me! AM: It’s a work in progress for sure. The best ones for us are meditations that are led by someone and we can sit down and start going through the process. But sometimes when we quiet our

mind, those things that were really sticking out there wanting to be thought about pop in and it can be tough to push them to the side! S: Exactly! It’s like when you go to sleep and then those thoughts pop in and it’s like – argh! AM: We’re working on meditation, but in terms of fitness or activities in general – what do you do? S: I’m a runner. I run a lot and I am really addicted to it – I love to do it! I listen to audiobooks and listening to them makes me so excited that I’m like, “I have to run more”. AM: We have to try that as we’re obsessed with podcasts and that could give us the kick that we need to run. S: Oooo I love This American Life, it’s my favorite! AM: Yes and then Serial – love! S: Ohhh but then S-Town that was AMAZING! AM: Yes, so obsessed with that! S: I was in London away from home and I was so emotional and the story was so insane. I was like how can this be real? I would run and listen to these shows and it just makes me run. If I didn’t have them, I would be bored. It’s the perfect way and it’s like free time where I can listen and do this. I’m not working out and it becomes a treat. It’s a really good trick. AM: Absolutely. So, tonight, you have a listening party – are you excited? S: I’m so excited and a little nervous maybe. Because I feel very honored and humble about people coming here. It's my first time doing it and I have never seen it done in Scandanavia, but I think that it is a really really


good way to present an artist. AM: So what else – what are you up to this summer even outside of music? S: Yeah. I’m going to play a lot, which means I am going to be in Scandanavia because of the festivals. You may play Thurs and Sun then you have a few days off and then you have Fri and Sat and then 3 days off. So it’s not like you have to work everyday, but you have a couple of months where you have to stay in the same area. That’s actually nice because I have been away from Denmark a lot this year. AM: What do you like to do in Denmark? S: Mainly I write. That’s also where my friends are and I really really like to hang out with the when I am home. We do lots of good stuff. I deeply recommend Copenhagen as it’s a fun town. AM: We may do a shoot there! S: You should come during the summer as it has really good festivals. We have this festival called Rosklide. It’s like the second biggest in Europe and it’s amazing. Come for that and then stay and have a small week in Copenhagen to see stuff. Hit me up and I will give you tips! AM: Do you prescribe to hygge? S: I don’t know what that it is – tell me. AM: Last year, we interviewed Meik Wiking who wrote a book about being and living a hyggelig lifestyle. Essentially, the concept is that you create an atmosphere and experience which creates a sense of comfort, well-being and togetherness. He outlines ways that one can bring it into their homes, work environment and to share with friends in order to create an optimized lifestyle. It’s about being cozy, spending time with close friends and family and checking in with yourself.

It seems like snow has been an interesting challenge over the past few weeks and this month, Athleisure Mag editors decided to take a roadtrip to Vermont courtesy of our friends at BUICK to try out the BUICK Regal TourX, a crossover that has the dynamics of a car while having the versatility of a SUV. The 5 hour drive to Woodstock, Vermont allowed us to enjoy a number of luxury amenities that included OnStar access, OnStar 4G LTE Wi-Fi Hotspot (essential for doing laptop work and keeping our phones connected when we started to get into spotty coverage areas), plenty of USB ports, SiriusXM Radio (we loved Lithium, the Pearl Jam and Beatles channels), and navigation that kept us aware of accident areas and re-routing us as needed. We're all about storage as we had a bit of equipment with us from camera gear, outfits for the slopes, snacks and more. The cargo space was quite substantial and as we drove into the night, the illumination of key areas on the dashboard was a great way to keep areas lit. While in Vermont, we stayed at the Woodstock Inn + Resort, which was a quaint resort that provides easy access to Woodstock Inn Nordic Center (we took the opportunity to go Snowshoeing), as well as a number of other mountain resorts such as Killington Ski Resort. Our room had a fireplace, as well which was a homey touch and there were attendants available to start the fire if needed. In our downtime, we took advantage of our stay at the Woodstock Inn enjoying fine dining at the properties' Red Rooster and Richardson's Tavern, which had a number of savory comfort foods and well-made cocktails. We also enjoyed our fill of basketball games as we're in the midst of March Madness! There were a number of common areas with fireplaces that continued the

woodsy vibe of this resort from the lobby, cozy nooks as well as a library that gave guests a number of places to connect with friends, family and other guests. We dove into chapters of Re-Engineering Humanity over hot toddies. We explored the town of Woodstock, which had a number of churches, historical sites and covered bridges that highlighted the New England town. When we added the trip to our calendar, we knew that we wanted to explore a few areas and decided to make a pit stop on our way home. Interestingly enough when we crossed Vermont's state line into Massachusetts, we saw the exit for the Naismith Basketall Hall of Fame in Springfield, MA. With March being the month of one of college's biggest tournament's, NCAA March Madness we decided that we had to make a stop here. The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame is in honor of Dr. James Naismith, a physical educator who invented the game at the age of 30 in 1891. He wrote the original basketball rule book and founded the University of Kansas basketball program. He was the first Kansas Jayhawks' Coach (1898 - 1907) as well as the school's Athletic Director (1919 - 1937). Prior to his death, he saw the game become an official Olympic event in the summer games of 1936, the birth of the National Invitation Tournament (1938) and the NCAA Tournament (1939). At his tenure at Kansas, he would coach Phog Allen who later became the coach for Kansas for 39 seasons. He would also coach Adolph Rupp and Dean Smth. This building is home to more than 300 inductees and has over 40,000 square feet of basketball history from NCAA teams, NBA, interactive exhibits and live clinics. Visitors can see signed memorabilia, sneakers, plaques, uniforms and more that have a place in Hardwood History. It was a great weekend checking out the car, snow sports and paying homage to the inception and heritage of basketball.

Many times, when we ask our friends and those interviewed in our issues, we always hear about them using Perricone MD, which is a line of beauty items that focus on fighting the signs of aging. ATHLEISURE MAG: Many of our readers are familiar with you and your brand, Perricone MD in terms of beauty. Please tell us about how you got into the beauty industry as well as what was the moment that initiated you creating a skincare line? DR. NICK PERRICONE: My initial quest to find ways to stop, prevent and reverse the negative effects of inflammation in my dermatology patients led the foundation for Perricone MD. My scientific studies have resulted in 150+ US and international scientific patents for the treatment of skin and systemic disease, for reversing and preventing damage to skin caused by factors such as age, the sun, the environment, and hormonal changes. Because my focus is on treating the underlying inflammation as the causative factor, my research focuses on utilizing antioxidants, which act as natural anti-inflammatories from nutritional substances, in topical formulations. We love keeping it simple as we're constantly running in multiple directions. So when we had the chance to sit down with Siri Daly, Today Show food contributor, Author of Siriously Delicious, wife to Carson Daly of The Voice and mother of 3, we had to find out more about her lifestyle cookbook, dishes that are simple to make and where she eats here in NYC and in LA. ATHLEISURE MAG: Tell us about your food background and how this led to ultimately creating your own food book? SIRI DALY: I am a self taught, passionate home cook. I grew up where my parents were great cooks. I loved cooking with them as a kid and then as I became a mother myself and found myself in this domestic situation, as I had to feed my family every night, that led me to start my own food blog – Siriously Delicious. I started that and it kind of gave me an outlet to just document what I was making every night for myself. Through writing and garnering an audience, it became something more. I was creating recipes then all the time documenting the good and the bad. This grew over time and allowed me to be on the Today Show and it was always a dream of mine to write a book. Especially, this type of book which is a love of food with simple and approachable recipes. AM: Tell us about the book. In terms of approaching and writing it, how is it laid out and what should we expect? SD: It’s sort of meant to be a snapshot of what my day is as a busy mom of 3 kids. The chapters are divided into Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Happy Hour, Sides and Desserts. So, again it’s really about recipes that are no fuss and the ingredients are those that you probably have on hand. It’s not about sifting flour or tempering chocolate. It’s simple approachable recipes that you can easily adapt if you have picky eaters, allergies or whatever it is. It’s balanced as there are plenty of nutritious recipes

and those that aren’t. It’s a real tasty approach. AM: Do you also have smoothies and items within those healthy areas as well? SD: Yes! We have a smoothie recipe in the breakfast chapter and mini parfaits. So there is really something for everyone – from homemade girl scout cookies to rainbow popsicles that have spinach in the green section. I definitely think that anyone can find something that they can eat. AM: Now, does Carson have a favorite recipe that he likes? SD: That’s a good question as I don’t know if he has a specific recipe, but there are a ton in there that he requests pretty regularly. A few of our family’s recipes are in there like his mother’s Fried Chicken – she actually passed away this year so that’s a real special one. My mother’s Rhubarb Crisp that she has been making since I was a kid. There are recipes that really mean something to my family. Each one really tells a story and I try to convey that in my writing. AM: What are 3 recipes that you love that are perfect for Spring for girlfriend get togethers? SD: Spring – I would definitely say, one of the Bruschettas – one of my favorite being the smashed peas and the avocado toast – peas are so great in Spring. There is a great light chopped salad in there and a pasta with arugula pesto which I just made yesterday – it’s another favorite. I love making pasta salad in the spring as you don’t want to cook over a hot stove and make everyone crazy. Oooo there are also the rainbow pops although that’s more summer, but they are so beautiful to look at. You can eat one for breakfast and it’s really a treat. Aesthetically it’s gorgeous and makes me think of days to come.


AM: How long did it take to put this book together? SD: When I started writing it was probably a year. I did the majority of writing over the summer which was awesome. I love to write and being able to focus on my food and my own. It was such a treat for me and you know it was really more whole life in the making. As these are recipes I grew up on like my mom’s Tuna Casserole and I made my own version of it. It was definitely a labor of love. AM: What is it about food that you enjoy so much and when did you realize that you enjoy cooking and wanted to continue in that vein? SD: That’s a good question. There was definitely a time in my life when I stopped cooking and not because I didn’t enjoy it, but I was a single person in my 20’s that didn’t have a ton of time and I would do the whole – come home and take out and have microwave Trader Joe’s meals. I remember feeling like something was missing and when I started to have children, I realized how much I love to create meals for my family. That’s what I love about food. It brings people together and the kitchen is that hub in our house. We’re always around each other and we try to really make eating together a priority most nights. Even if Carson and I aren’t going to eat because we’re not ready, we sit there with the kids. It’s just that shared experience over food which I love so much. It’s also so creative as you can have fun with it and not to take it so seriously. That’s why I created the blog and the book, Siriously Delicious. You don’t have to follow recipes to a “T”, you can use your own taste buds and your own ideas to make something your own.

really tells a story and I try to convey that in my writing. AM: What are 3 dishes from your cookbook that you feel are the easiest to make in terms of less prep time that a busy mom or person would be drawn to making? SD: Definitely for breakfast, the Mini Yogurt parfaits because you can make them for breakfast and you barely need a recipe because you put the granola in the yogurt and you can customize them any way that you want. Then you can make them with your kids and they’re amazing on the go which is a huge time saver. For dinner, I’d say that anything that is some sort of a bar situation. So, I have a big potato bar. How simple is it to bake some potatoes and have all sorts of fun toppings? You can have it for dinner and you can also have it for a party as it’s customizable, fun and different. Something we make a lot is the Crispy Chicken Paillard! It’s customizable as my son is the only one that will eat a salad and my girls, they are against green things but they love the chicken. I will serve it to them with some carrots and I’m not a short order cook because I can make one meal and it’s great as a leftover because they can be chicken cutlets. It doesn’t take a lot of time. AM: What are your favorite chefs and what are your favorite restaurants here in NY and in LA? SD: When I wasn’t cooking at that time in my life during college – I was watching Food Network. Ina Garten is definitely one of my favorite idols. She just makes really elegant, simple meals that are comfort foods at their best. There’s something about the way that she does it on television that is really soothing. I LOVE her!



As far as restaurants and chefs, there’s in LA – we do a lot of Mexican (can’t think of a specific chef). There’s a place in Manhattan Beach called Love & Salt. There’s a chef called Michael Fiorelli who is awesome and one of my favortes. It’s a small place, but the food there is farm to table delicious that’s simple and seasonal dishes. We just recently went to Pizzana in Brentwood which is new. I believe it’s the people that are behind Sprinkles. Ridiculously – stupid good food! Out here, there’s a place called Frankie’s 457. Frankie is actually a good friend of Carson’s. So when we go there, he sits with us. We don’t order and he tells us what we are going to eat. One of our favorite Olympians to hit PyeongChang during the Winter Games last month, was none other than Lindsey Vonn. The stunning Alpine Skier not only went home with a little more bling, but went on to continue competitions. We caught up with her here in NYC to find out when she fell in love with the sport, what it's like to perorm at a high level, her partnership with Bounty and her personal style. ATHLEISURE MAG: Tell us about how you got into the sport of Alpine Skiing. LINDSEY VONN: My Grandfather was the pioneer of skiing for our family and he passed that love onto his kids and my Dad passed it onto me. AM: We have interviewed a number of Olympians and have heard various fitness levels when preparing for the Olympics versus maintaining fitness goals. What was your training like leading up to the Olympics and then while you were there? LV: Well, I’ve been training for this Olympics for 8 years! I’ve been in and out of rehab for my knee and elbow, but have still maintained a strict training program to keep me in shape. In between racing, I work out every day and during races I get up early and ride my stationary bike for a warm up. AM: You're fresh off winning your Bronze Medal at PyeongChang - what was your biggest take away from the experience? LV: The best part of my experience was just accomplishing my goals of getting a medal for my Grandfather. This Olympics has been such a long time coming that I’m just thankful I made it, I was healthy, and I did the very best I could. AM: We know that you partnered with Bounty as we saw your commercials throughout the Olympic Games, tell us about this and why was it a natural fit to do?


LV: Bounty is a natural fit if you have 3 dogs! It was a great experience filming the commercial with my dog, Lucy. She is now more famous than I am! AM: The schedules of Olympians are always crazy, but you left the games and continued on with other races - tell us what you've been up to in terms of races that you have participated in as we know you were at The World Cup Finals. LV: Yeah, I couldn’t take as much time off after the Olympics as I would have wanted. I had a press tour and then had to head to Sweden for the World Cup Finals. Getting 1st and 3rd in finals was a great ending to a perfect year. I’m that much closer to beating Ingmar’s record. I think I may have a chance to beat it next year! AM: What does the racing season look like for you in terms of how much of the year it takes up? LV: Well it’s not just the racing that takes up time, but the training—and that’s a full-time job. So I have a weeklong vacation once a year and then it’s back to the gym, training, and head to Europe for the World Cup--I don’t give myself room to slow down. AM: As we've been fans of yours for a while, we checked out your IG and see that you were on the set of Ballers - does this mean that we'll see you on the upcoming season with The Rock? LV: I wish! I’ll have to work that out with Dwayne next time I see him :) I was on Law & Order though, so I have some experience with acting. AM: Tell us about going to the Oscars and share with us details about your dress as it looked beautiful. LV: The Oscars was amazing! I just took in every moment of it because it was such an honor to be invited. Well, my dress was supposed to be long-

sleeved! It was too tight to get my arm through so we had to cut the sleeves at the very last minute. It was crazy, but I loved that dress and I felt great it in. AM: What are you working on now professionally coming off of so much activity? LV: I have been busy in New York on a press tour and am headed back home to Colorado for my Foundation Gala event and to spend some time with my family and my dogs.

AM: Wherever you're based, where could we find you grabbing drinks and a meal, shopping and then your favorite fitness studio to go to. LV: You can find me at Starbucks anywhere. I need my coffee! For a meal it depends where I am—probably at the hotel restaurant. For shopping, I love going to boutiques where you can find one-of-a-kind things. I am either in my gym at home, at the Red Bull gym in LA, a hotel gym or outside. AM: Tell us about the Lindsey Vonn Foundation - why it was created, what it focuses on and who it assists. LV: My Foundation was created because Picabo Street inspired me as a young girl to be an Olympian within five minutes of meeting her. I know the impact that a little encouragement and inspiration can do, and I want to give that to girls. We have had three free camps helping 300 girls to be friends, leaders, and gain confidence. I stay with them the entire 2-day camp and work with them. We will have our 4th camp in LA this summer with 200 girls. We just relaunched our Scholarship Program this spring focusing on enrichment activities for both girls and boys to help find their passions outside of school. Whether it’s a ski club, violin lessons, or cooking class—we want them to be able to find and do what they love.

AM: What are you working on? LV: Personally, I’m working on just taking it easy and having fun. Now that the Olympics are over I can relax! AM: We know that this fall, you have a Signature Skiwear Collection with Under Armour coming out which we're excited to see. Tell us about your personal style - what would we see you wearing when you're going out for cocktails and a night out versus running errands about time? LV: 99.9% of the time I’m in sweats. I

Summer Body Pump 2018 by Dr. David Greuner


Spring is upon us, and soon we are going to hear the “summer body” workout plans, and everyone panicking about showing some skin on the beach. Nothing inspires confidence like a little advance preparation, but who has the time? And where should you start?

form your workout with less risk of injuring yourself. You can also do them at home, which is a great excuse to get your day started right.

As we all know, it’s pretty damn hard, and borderline dangerous to abruptly step into a rigorous workout routine without establishing some basic training to get into it. It’s also hard to rationalize getting out of the bed when it’s cold and dark outside, but we all know it needs to get done, so I put together a plan that can help you ease into it with, let’s say, a “graduated effort” protocol.

These moves are very simple and relatively easy to do. They are also great openers to get you limber enough for the rest of the workout, and very unlikely to cause an injury before you are warmed up.

One of the things I try to focus on to get back into things, is core workouts, which are not only incredibly functional, but also help you to look great as you get in shape. Most of these you can do at home in 20 minutes or less, removing that excuse for those of us who have a hard time making it into the gym in the morning. Here is a pretty routine, but very effective workout I do often, especially when pressed for time. Remember, abs have more fast twitch fibers than the rest of our muscles, so they need to be worked out more often than other muscles for appropriate training. It’s also a great workout to do with a partner or friend, which makes you more likely to stick to your new routine. I typically start with a little core specific stretching and static moves, then progress to more dynamic moves when more warmed up. The stretching you can do together, then alternate sets with each other as your workout progresses. Stretching I’m not a huge fan of complicated yoga poses, and I for the occasional yogi, it can be pretty humiliating and disheartening to attempt them. There are a few however, that are easy to perform, have a wide variety of benefits, and can help you per-

Child and Cobra pose (10 of each, alternating)

Upward and Downward Dog (10 of each, alternating) This simple set of moves opens up your spine and hip flexors, stretches out your abs, and is pretty easy to perform. They are one step up regarding movement from the child and cobra pose in terms of movement. Try and focus on slow deliberate movements, expanding range of motion with each cycle, and breathing. Strengthening and Toning Various Planks (1 minute x 3) These are a little more intense, and utilize what is called an isometric muscular contraction to engage more core muscles, especially as you perfect your form. Isometric contractions are often neglected, but one of the most effective ways to enhance muscular strength and tone. When you are strong enough to perform this move correctly for time (over 60 seconds), you can add on other variations, such as the side plank and isolate more muscle groups. Simple, but VERY effective. I find doing these next to a mirror help a lot in terms of identifying flaws in form, which are very common and detrimental to the move being effective. Crunches and Sit-Up Variations (at least 3 sets of 10 reps)


There is a tremendous amount of variability you can work into this set of exercises, including using an incline bench, or using a medicine ball for weight. Although many advocate limited motion and isolation on crunches, I’ve found that the vast majority of people - including myself - don’t have the advanced muscular control required to do isolation crunches effectively enough to stimulate significant muscular failure. It’s NOT easy. I’m more of a fan of larger movements using resistance, which take away the need for such perfect control, but utilize resistance or weight as another way to fatigue all of the muscles in the group. It’s much harder to cheat that way, and there is a hidden benefit of recruiting more of the often overlooked “supporting” muscles around which are also functional. In general, you can utilize more isolation and use less weight, or less isolation, and more weight. I find for most of us, the latter situation is always easier. On most of these exercises, if you don’t have weights, or an incline bench, grab your partner, spouse, or friend, and have them provide resistance for you. It’s an easy way to get them involved in your workout routine, and progress together. Leg Raises (at least 3-4 sets of 10 reps) This is a great exercise for the lower abs specifically, and helps bring out tone, and strengthen the hip flexors as well. You can utilize ankle weights, an incline bench, or a partner for resistance as you become stronger. The key, as with all core work, is slow, deliberate, and strict form. If you have pain when doing this exercise, you can place your hands under your lower back as a makeshift “lumbar support” maneuver. Beginners can also do this move with bent knees to start off with and progress to straight leg raises, which are more difficult. Taking it a Step Up. Weighted Pulldown Crunches (4 sets of 10)

This is the ultimate crunch killer. Amazing exercise for building definition, especially in the uppermost ab muscles which are underdeveloped in 99 percent of us…..think of it as the difference between a 6 and 8 pack. Because you can go to quite a heavy weight without causing injury with this exercise, it’s also great for providing “depth” to your abs and giving them that deep, chiseled look. The flip side (isn’t there always one?), is it requires a significant amount of coordination, and muscular control, but STILL less than doing traditional crunches RIGHT. After you have mastered the other moves, this is a nice one to move on to. It does require a cable weight set, so not really amenable to doing at home.


Finishing It. Bicycle Crunches (1-2 minutes, rapid speed, 2-3 sets) I find this exercise is tough to do when you start off your workout, but when you are finishing up, especially after some decent resistance work, and your abs are relatively beaten up, it allows you to push to a new level of muscular fatigue. The more you push to fatigue, the more results you get. Because this exercise is so dynamic, and you are already warmed up, and hopefully at this point pretty fatigued, aberrances in form are a little more forgiving. Start at 30 seconds, with the goal of one twist each second, and move on to 60-120 seconds. Trust me, it BURNS. There you go - a pretty simple, easy to

do exercise set, that you can do at home, that will challenge a beginner to an advanced user. All of these moves are basic, but can evolve with you as you progress, with minimal, easy adjustments. Remember, no matter how toned and strong your abs are, they won’t show if your body fat isn’t low enough. Stick to a routine that is easily and reliably implemented into your daily routine, keep it lean, ensure your caloric intake is on point, and you will be beach body ready for summer in no time! We had the opportunity to chat with Dr. Joy Altimore about assessing where you are in your career, what networking sites she believes in and how to have proper growth in your role. Its a great time to see where you are as the Spring is the perfect time to make sure you meet your benchmarks.

ATHLEISURE MAG: Tell us about your corporate career and how you got to your current firm?

AM: We're living in a time of a corporate shift where the need to acknowledge and embrace diversity across experience, gender, orientation etc is truly wanted in the work place. How does bringing this in as a priority to a company assist in their advancement?

DR. JOY ALTIMORE: I have a uniquely non-traditional path to the C-suite. I started my career in advertising, working at some of the most recognized advertising agencies – Publicis, Ogilvy & Mather – and there I learned so much about both collaboration and leadership. After I left the agency world, I wanted to find an opportunity to impact individuals and culture in a way that authentically represented my passion. I love fitness, lifestyle and technology. I worked at Equinox Fitness, SOLS (an alternative, algorithmic manufacturing company) and now, EHE which allows me to combine all of my interests. AM: What is EHE and what does the company do, how does it benefit our health and what is your role there? DR. JA: EHE is a preventive health company. We specialize in employee health – and we engage healthy employees. We help employers engage their population in a more meaningful way while also assisting the employee on their personalized health journey. My role as Chief Engagement and Brand Officer is to lead the evolution of our engagement strategy to drive interest, conversion and completion of the EHE product. AM: Your positions seem to focus on tackling growth, innovation and challenges across a number of industries - why are

DR. JA: Flexibility is essential to growth – you have to be able to take a reflective glance at your contribution, pivot when necessary and provide relevancy so that you can grow as a person. And the same is true of a brand. Nothing exists in absolution. Everything constantly evolves and in order to grow, you must be present to the change and evolve too.

DR. JA: According to a 2017 McKinsey report: "Companies in the top-quartile for gender diversity on their executive teams were 21% more likely to have above-average profitability than companies in the fourth quartile. For ethnic/ cultural diversity, top-quartile companies were 33% more likely to outperform on profitability." – so the proof speaks for itself. When companies adopt a culture of diversity and inclusion not only is it good for the diverse employee(s), but it’s great for productivity across the board. It speaks to acceptance, transparency and promotes employee engagement at a much more higher level. AM: What career advice do you have for women that are looking to advance in their career whether it's at the same firm, changing fields or even starting their own businesses? DR. JA: Be the best person in the room – not just the best woman. Have a sense of humor, but stay focused on our trajectory without comparing yourself to others. What is meant for you is yours; you do not need to step on someone else nor be jealous of anyones success in order for you to realize and reach your potential.


AM: What is some of the best advice you received that you still utilize to this day? DR. JA: Be yourself. There’s only one you and you’re pretty extraordinary. AM: When working for yourself or others, you're constantly learning from others, what organizations or websites do you suggest as vital to increasing your community that you network within? DR. JA: LinkedIn, CMO.org, HuffPo AM: How important is mentorship and paying it forward by doing so with others? DR. JA: It’s super important to recognize those coming behind you – and offer support and guidance. I think it’s essential to personal growth to identify your potential successor and provide them with the tools/resources so that they can succeed. Mentorship is akin to great management; and great management begins with understanding motivations behind behavior. It’s not that we/they are particularly different than any generation that has come before us/them – there’s always new stimuli, advanced technology, etc. The opportunity is for us to look at those generations that follow us, as we should look at everyone, and figure out how can we meet them where they are and mentor, grow them to where they are able to go. It’s about them; not about trying to have them fit into our ideal construct.

When we think of women that are innovative and trailbazers, Joy Mangano is one of the people that come to mind. We're honored that she sat down with us to talk about her aha moment, her ability to create functional items that make your life easier, how she maintains a fresh perspective when she is working to continue to develop great products and the importance of being a mentor to share the wealth of inspiration. ATHLEISURE MAG: For those who have not seen the movie where Jennifer Lawrence plays you OR those who are not familiar with you, can you tell us how you went from realizing the need for one great product that brought you to HSN, to where you have now generated a number of great products and assisted those who also have great concepts that fit within our lifestyle? JOY MANGANO: As a single mother of three, I was looking for a way to make the daily chore of mopping easier. I didn’t know much about the world of product and business, but I felt like most mothers and wives do, not having enough time to care of their families and homes, and I wanted to try to fix that. The Miracle Mop was born from that feeling, a feeling I never gave up on, that I could help people like me. And that belief is what kept me going, to new products, to TV retail, to HSN, to where I am today. ATHLEISURE MAG: Do you believe that all great products come out of the need to solve a problem? JM: 100% yes. I’ve always wondered why the ordinary things in life need to remain ordinary, if they have a chance to be better. I guess I just don’t settle for accepting things the way they are, I focus on the way they could be, and should be, in every aspect of life. with Joy Man more function. I was always inspired by the world around me. AM: At what point did you realize that expanding from the mop was necessary to build your empire and how many products do you say that you concept and then eventually bring to market? JM: It’s funny, but stopping at the mop was never really an option in my mind. I saw, and still see an opportunity in everything. As a child, I was always searching for a way to improve everything I could get my hands on. And that’s still true today. I’ve always had ideas about products in my head; but the success of the Miracle Mop allowed me the courage and self-belief to bring so many of them to life. AM: What would you say the ethos of the Joy brand is and how do you continue to come up with great ideas that really become adopted into our lifestyle quickly? JM: I believe we’re all basically the same. We have the same needs, the same wants, the same challenges and troubles. So I’m always convinced that an idea will resonate, because it always comes from a need I have; a need my customers might have too! The process really starts and grows from there. AM: As the Co-Founder/Style Director of Athleisure Mag, my first steamer whether I was styling projects or was going on air for HSN myself, I would bring My Little Steamer. This was my first steamer that I used for a number of years! What was the moment

when you realized that you should create this as well as that it would be a great prod uct to have in your assortment? JM: I love that! I’m so happy to hear you love the My Little Steamer! It really is the little product that could. Like everyone in life, I just didn’t like the hassle and trouble with ironing. The big heavy board, the water spilling everywhere, the burning of your clothes and maybe even your fingers. I knew I wanted to create something light,

easy and portable, unlike traditional irons, but also better. And we did it – in just minutes you can steam something and you’re out the door looking flawless. That immediate reaction is what makes it such a great product. AM: How do you know that a product is not only a hit but is worthy of bearing your name or being a part of your empire? JM: I believe in everything I put my name


on, I create products that I personally have a need for, so if I like it and believe in it, then I know there’s a real chance that my customers will too. AM: How important is giving back to those as a mentor and to direct them toward being strong and savvy business women? JM: I believe in the American Dream because I’m living it! And I know, no matter who you are or where you’re from, if you are smart and brave and have a little luck, you can find your own success. But I also know that getting started can be very scary – there’s no roadmap, no step-by-step guide that tells you how to make your dream a reality, especially in the world of bringing new ideas to life. That’s why I started my foundation, The Joy Mangano Foundation, as way to help women get started both in their personal and business lives by empowering them and providing tools that they might not have access to. AM: Closet organizing, home maintenance, travel clothing prep etc are some of the core pieces that are in your collection, what else should we keep on our radar for future appearances on HSN. JM: I don’t want to spoil anything, but I have a few new products rolling out that I have been working on! AM: What advice do you give women who are looking to bring that one idea to market in a mass way when they may not have the resources (financially, contacts etc) to do so - but they still believe that this is something that needs to be in the world? JM: You must believe in yourself and your ideas in order for anyone else to believe them. It starts with you – no one else will push you forward. I’d also recommend they check out my foundation, which is partnered with Rising Tide Capital, a brilliant non-profit organization that, for the past 10 years has been working to empower many first-time entrepreneurs and single mothers to use their creativity and talents so they too can build businesses

that transform their lives and the lives of those around them. AM: What philanthropy/charities do you give your time to? JM: I have the honor of being a part of the UN Women Champions for Innovation. I’m so proud to be a part of an amazing group of women who promote UN Women’s activities that support women’s and girl’s opportunities in areas related to innovation, technology, and entrepreneurship. It’s important to raise awareness about the barriers that women and girls face in these industries and I’m so happy I can be a part of the change. AM: You have 100s of inventions under your belt - what keeps you engaged in inventing and presenting new concepts? JM: I try to have a fresh perspective waking up every day. I think it’s important no matter what you do, to take a step back and look at things in a different light.
