My idea and concept of “time to yourself” revolves around a few words. Meditation, comfort, precious and personal.

Lying down becomes something very intimate between the material of the device and the subject. And due to the natural weight of the subject, a depression on the device will be made. This depression would be according to the subject’s body form. Hence if any other person were to be on it, they wouldn’t feel comfortable. The intimacy between the device and the subject is what I am looking for too as it becomes something very personal to the subject. Just like how a bird would feel to its nest.
When you’re doing something that you enjoy the most, time becomes something that we turn a blind eye to. It may seem that time itself has frozen as we “live” in the moment. We enter a meditative state without even realizing it. So how can I create something that “captures” the process of this freezing time?

Isolation becomes a part of the device. Not entirely in terms of form but rather the intangible way. As the subject becomes “ignorant” of time, they start to isolate themselves in their own world subconsciously. Also after a period of time the device becomes a part of the subject. The depressions becomes a sort of “cave” where they sit isolating themselves both physically and mentally.
I’ve noticed something about the positions we interact in. As humans we tend to choose to be lazy at times. When we are given the opportunity to sit although we don’t need to, we still sit. Possibly to be comfortable. Hence I thought, about the different positions to be comfortable.

the lattice placement of the mesh provides structural support.H ence the use of other means to support is not needed

the reason why I chose 3D printed textile was because of the possibilities the material has.

my initial idea was to create a pendulum like device. I was thinking of something that represents the meditative state. The constant rocking could create a certain feel towards the subject in the device. However I felt that something was missing both in the concept and design of the device.

my second idea was to focus on an “intimate” space. I wanted the subject that is in the device to feel the “ultimate” isolation. Like my concept of time stopping when doing something you enjoy, which brings you into a certain state of isolation, I tried to blend it in. However, the form of the device was too rigid and not comfortable enough for me.

my third development idea was more closer to my final design. The difference is that this one was a little more bulky in form. In this idea I chose to use bamboo and rattan as the main material. Bamboo has a certain quality that I really liked. However in terms of visual apperance, it wasn’t the best decision.
