THE CLIMBING LIFE All of us know how long it takes, to the minute, to reach our local crag. We’ve slept in the dirt at J-Tree, in gîtes in Argentière and on the couches of countless climbing partners in between. When we look at a doorjamb, we see a pull-up bar. We know how to tape our hands and fingers in the morning, and how to repair the damage with superglue at night. We’ve run out of water, watched the sun set from the top of a spire, hiked out in the dark and never felt happier.

At Black Diamond, we believe our gear can be a catalyst for this global culture of climbing, from working 5.14 moves on the Dawn Wall in Yosemite to the thousands of new climbers experiencing the sport for the first time in a gym. It’s this dedication that will continue to fuel our approach to creating Black Diamond gear: using, designing, engineering and building equipment and apparel for the climbing life.

We know these things because we’re climbers, and being a climber is about more than just climbing.

Beyond crimps and laybacks and hand jams, climbing is a passion that shapes the bodies, minds and lives of an entire community. Driven by something far deeper than simply making the crux move, the climbing life encompasses everything that happens before tying in and after topping out. It is training, travel and the kind of friendships forged over unplanned bivys and campfire beers.

APPAREL DESIGN PRINCIPLES At Black Diamond, we are users and we are makers.

Our passion for climbing, skiing and alpinism cannot be separated from our drive to design better equipment and apparel for the sports we serve.

Just as moving in the mountains is a creative act, so too is engineering trustworthy gear an act of passion, style and commitment. In the design studio, as in the mountains, we work with an alpinist’s mentality, stripping away the superfluous until the simplest, cleanest and most efficient solutions remain.

Our apparel is not simply an emulation of this process, it is a natural, organic extension of it: a holistic collection of tools made for climbers whose passion is intrinsically integrated into every aspect of daily life.

we partner with the best fabric providers in the world to create our outerwear. This season, we introduce new hardshells engineered with ultralight waterproof/ breathable GORE-TEX fabrics and insulation built with PrimaLoft Down blend and synthetic fill.

HYBRID CONSTRUCTION

Engineered for gram-obsessed minimalists who demand uncompromising weather protection, GORE-TEX Paclite product technology delivers superior waterproof, windproof and breathable performance in an ultralight, compact package.

Paclite shells are guaranteed to keep you dry even in torrential downpours, while venting the water vapor generated by high-output activities, so you stay comfortable as you move.

By combining different fabrics and insulation technologies, we’re able to create jackets that perform in a greater range of weather conditions without sacrificing weight, warmth or durability. The hybrid construction of the Hot Forge Hybrid Hoody employs PrimaLoft Gold Insulation Down Blend in the body to provide the loft, warmth and compressibility of down with the added water resistance of DWR-coated fibers. We designed the hood, shoulders and sleeves with synthetic PrimaLoft Gold Insulation for increased wet-weather performance and faster drying time.

PRIMALOFT ® GOLD INSULATION The most thermally efficient synthetic insulation available, PrimaLoft Gold Insulation is the benchmark for performance in cold, wet conditions. Pieces like the Access LT Hybrid Hoody combine this warm, water-resistant and highly compressible insulation with Schoeller stretch-woven under-arm panels to excel as both a spring belay jacket and a warm, breathable mid-winter layering piece.
