Join us for this hands-on succulent planting class. Children ages 8-12 will learn more about container gardening with undemanding succulents, and create their own container garden to take home and cultivate in preparation for the Flower Show in February. Garden Grooves*

This class is for every gardener who loves to save and share their favorite seeds. Create your own illustrated seed packets that make excellent gifts. Whoever coined the phrase “Good things come in small packages” knew that life in the garden begins with “seeds”. Colored pencils will be used to illustrate the seed packets. Be inspired by vintage seed packets and other images to create! Supply list provided upon registration. Around the World in 80 Plants An edible perennial adventure Presented by Stephen Barstow, Tuesday, Sept. 24, 7 p.m. Extreme Salad Man Stephen Barstow, author of “Around the World in 80 Plants: An Edible Perennial Vegetable Adventure for Temperate Climates,” and blogger at edimentals.com has devoted almost 40 years to trialing 6,000 vegetables from around the world. He will tell us the story of how moving to Norway from the UK in 1981, to work as an oceanographer, and as a young vegetarian and naturalist, lead to him developing a forest garden and one of the largest collections of edible plants anywhere. He then leads us on an inspiring global adventure, introducing us to a selection of his top climate friendly and nutritious perennial vegetables, many of which double as ornamentals (he invented the term edimentals fot these plants), many of which are also great pollinator plants. Lectures are free and no reservations are required. The Philip and Elkin Alston Lecture series is made possible through the generous support of the Charles Loridans Foundation.

FUQUA LECTURE

Capture all of the colors in the Garden by starting on a dark canvas, achieving the darkest tone of the piece. By going backwards from darkest to light, the painting will be built from the ground up, layering opaque and transparent colors on the canvas’s dark base. Explore color theory and the making of one’s own colors. Supply list provided upon registration. In “Reversing Climate Change, Saving the World,” he shares what he’s learned about how individuals can work together to reverse the impact. Lectures are free and no reservations are required.
