As architects for One Museum Place, we continue to relish the opportunity to work on this very rarified site in Midtown Atlanta in the presence of The High Museum of Art and its architects Renzo Piano and Richard Meier. Respecting the efforts of these two exceptional architects, we have assisted John Wieland in creating a project of reciprocal scale, texture, and fortitude. The architectural massing of the One Museum Place buildings form a central courtyard that, along with a verdant landscape, produces a layered, arrival sequence from Peachtree Street. The architectural mass of the buildings express individual homes with their generous outdoor rooms or lanais, while faรงade treatments collect the individual homes into a cohesive community. MS + ME

Randy Shields has over 20 years of experience in the design, development and construction industry, having worked on various types of projects including housing, cultural, hospitality and commercial office developments with a focus on condominiums and landmark cultural projects. He has held positions with several leading real estate investment and development firms including Jones Lang LaSalle and Starwood Capital. Most recently, he managed the real estate holdings and development activities for a Saudi family office while based in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Randy has both a Bachelor’s Degree and Master’s Degree in Architecture from Clemson University and served as Project Architect/Project Manager in the offices of I.M. Pei and Richard Meier and Partners on several major commissions. He also worked in the offices of Renzo Piano in Genoa Italy, and served as Project Architect for the Kansai International Airport, managing the design team from the Genoa office. Randy’s partnership with John Wieland in relaunching One Museum Place has its roots in their collaboration on the recent expansion of the High Museum of Art where Randy served as Owner’s representative on the expansion working closely with John in his role as chair of the High Museum’s building committee. John Wieland has devoted over 40 years to building compelling homes in Atlanta and four other Southeast cities as the founder and CEO of John Wieland Homes and Neighborhoods. With his retirement from his legacy company, and after more than 30,000 happy homeowners, his focus now is on high end boutique neighborhoods that are urban - walkable – refined. Certainly One Museum Place is all of these. The initial concept for One Museum Place, after John purchased the land and derelict buildings across from the High Museum from the Woodruff Arts Center nine years ago, was for a two tower elegant condominium by the acclaimed British Architect, Sir David Chipperfield. Fortunately that building, thanks to the real estate recession, never was started. John has been able to continue to control the land and is now able to relaunch One Museum Place in a more relevant, more affordable and more intimate format. Partnering with condominium expert Randy Shields, a world class team of building architect, landscape architect and general contractor have been assembled to create what John knows is going to be the premiere condominium residence in Atlanta, both in design and location. Only the lucky few will be able to enjoy One Museum Place as both a home and an investment.

Mack Scogin is a principal in the firm of Mack Scogin Merrill Elam Architects, Inc. in Atlanta, Georgia. He is the Kajima Professor in the Practice of Architecture at the Harvard University Graduate School of Design where he was the Chairman of the Department of Architecture from 1990 to 1995. Merrill Elam is a principal in the firm of Mack Scogin Merrill Elam Architects, Inc. in Atlanta, Georgia. In addition to her practice she lectures and teaches frequently, having served as a Visiting Critic at the Harvard University Graduate School of Design and SCI-ARC, Southern California Institute of Architecture; as the Louis Henri Sullivan Research Professor of Architecture at the University of Illinois at Chicago; the William Henry Bishop Visiting Professor of Architectural Design at Yale University and the Harry S. Shure Visiting Professor in Architecture at the University of Virginia. Together, they received the 2012 Cooper-Hewitt National Design Award for Architecture, the 2011 Arnold W. Brunner Memorial Prize in Architecture from the American Academy of Arts and Letters, 1995 Academy Award in Architecture from the American Academy of Arts and Letters, a 1996 Chrysler Award for Innovation in Design, the 2006 Boston Society of Architects Harleston Parker Medal and a 2008 Honorary Fellowship in the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA). Projects by Mack Scogin Merrill Elam Architects have received numerous design awards including seven National American Institute of Architects Awards of Excellence. Their work has been widely featured in popular and academic publications on architecture including the 1992 Rizzoli publication, Scogin Elam and Bray: Critical Architecture/Architectural Criticism, the 1999 University of Michigan publication Mack & Merrill and the 2005 Princeton Architectural Press publication Mack Scogin Merrill Elam: Knowlton Hall. Their work has been exhibited at many museums and galleries including: Museum of Modern Art; Walker Art Center; Wexner Center for the Arts; Museum of Contemporary Art in Barcelona, Spain; Deutches Architektur Museum in Frankfurt, Germany; and the Global Architecture Gallery in Tokyo, Japan. Rob Blalock oversees the mixed-use division for Brasfield & Gorrie’s Atlanta office. In this role, he supervises all aspects of construction, supporting of the entire project team. Prior to earning his position as vise president/ division manager, Rob served as operations manager. His vision and leadership allow him to continue producing projects that far exceed our client’s expectations. Rob’s interaction with the entire project team and communication throughout the project are an asset to our project team and to all of Brasfield & Gorrie’s clients. Lynn Walker is responsible for ensuring the success of projects through overall management of all field forces and joist coordination and communication. With more than 8 years at Bradfield & Gorrie and 30 years in the construction industry, he is a dedicated superintendent with the proven ability to produce quality facilities on a timely basis. During the preconstruction phase, Lynn works with the project team to provide guidance on the constructibility of systems and input on scheduling and efficiency. He will participate throughout construction in coordination meetings with subcontractors and suppliers. Over the course of his career, Lynn has managed 5.1 million self-performed man hours. With Lynn as a part of our team, we can ensure Bradfield & Gorrie clients of safety, efficiency and quality workmanship.
Landscape Architects
Gary Hilderbrand is founding principal, with Douglas Reed, of the award-winning Cambridge landscape architecture practice Reed Hilderbrand. He currently leads the firm’s work at Duke University and at The Clark Art Institute, whose transformed 140-acre campus debuted summer 2014 after a decade-long collaboration with Reed Hilderbrand. Gary Hilderbrand holds degrees from SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry and Harvard Graduate School of Design, where he received the Charles Eliot Traveling Fellowship. He is currently Professor in Practice at Harvard, where he has taught since 1990. He was elected as a Fellow of the American Society of Landscape Architects in 2001 and is a Fellow of the American Academy in Rome. His personal works of photocollage have been exhibited at the Isabella Stuart Gardner Museum, Sotheby’s New York, Harvard University, and the Boston University Art Gallery. Susan Stainback is owner and principal of Sylvatica Studio, a leading landscape architecture and ecological planning firm in Atlanta. Their projects elevate the essential character of a place and support natural and social systems, encompassing gardens, pocket parks and greenspaces for public and private associations in urban and natural settings. She serves on the Midtown Alliance EcoDistrict Advisory Council, the Society for Ecological Restoration International - Southeast Board, and the South Fork Conservancy Board. With a BLA in Environmental Design from the University of Georgia and a MLA from Harvard University, Stainback worked for ten years in Boston for well-established landscape architecture firms before returning to Atlanta. Susan’s professional work illustrates her seasoned understanding of interwoven ecosystems, habitat restoration and design work at the private, community, municipal and regional level. Her work has proved influential, substantially benefitting natural and social environments in Atlanta and the greater Southeast.
Interior Design
Mark Williams is owner and principal of Mark Williams Design Associates. After receiving a Bachelor of Science from the Georgia Tech College of Architecture, Mark Williams went on to study at the Ecole d’Architecture, Tolbiac in Paris. Upon returning to Atlanta, he worked for small and large Architectural and Interiors firms (Brooks Burr & Associates, ASD, Heery International) until opening his first practice, Laslie-Williams, in 1998. In 2007, Mark opened a new kind of design collaborative, Mark Williams Design Associates. MWDA is a multidisciplinary design team employing designers from backgrounds in both interior and architectural design. The marriage of the two disciplines provides a comprehensive understanding of how the built environment and the objects which occupy it can balance and compliment one another. With varied experience in luxury single family residential design and interiors, and multi-family design and interiors, Mark has developed a diverse portfolio of work spanning many different building types and interior styles. Having worked around the country on many types of multi-family residential developments, the design team at MWDA enjoys creating home plans and finish packages that are harmonious with a building’s architecture. In addition, creating base building public spaces that reflect the unique personality of each building and their surrounding communities is an important part of any building’s overall unique lifestyle. By working with a network of national and local vendors within each region, MWDA can execute jobs anywhere in the country with the same economy as if they were working in their home city of Atlanta.
