Nestled within a 105-year-old Ansley Park home, this kitchen reimagines tradition by blending timeless design principles with contemporary artistry. Designed for homeowners who treasure large-scale cooking and entertaining, this space addresses the challenges of its historic footprint with ingenuity and flair. By reclaiming space through the removal of a spiral staircase, the design creates room for a sophisticated “back kitchen and pantry,” while a striking trapezoid-shaped island seamlessly integrates seating at the island and allows for a cozy dining area. A thoughtful mix of Sassafras wood and sleek black Fenix Nanotech cabinets gracefully delineates the front and back kitchens, keeping the bustle of entertaining tucked neatly out of sight. Colorful, heated terrazzo floors not only exude modern charm but also provide warmth for the household’s four-legged companions. Accents such as Bahama Mar quartzite countertops enhance the space with their refined beauty, creating a design that is as e ortless as it is captivating. This kitchen embodies a seamless balance of form and function—a true testament to the art of thoughtful design.

This home has evolved from a spec house to a custom masterpiece, with thoughtful upgrades throughout. The kitchen, the final piece, was redesigned to complement the client’s familycentered, entertaining lifestyle. Collaborating with architect Chris Hunkele, they explored multiple layouts to find the perfect fit. Kitchen designer, Kelly Carlisle, maximized functionality, providing the custom cabinetry and installation. The client’s passion for design is reflected in the mix of textures, which provides a stunning backdrop for their art collection. Key to the transformation was removing a partial wall and replacing the breakfast table with a full-service bar, encouraging family dinners in the dining room.
Kelly Carlisle, known as the “sixteenth of an inch girl,” excels in high-end kitchen and bath design. With 20 years of expertise, her firm, founded in 2018, specializes in bespoke cabinetry, seamlessly blending architecture with clients’ personalities. Chris Hunkele, a graduate from LSU, has diverse experience in historic preservation, architecture, and adaptive reuse. Dove Studio is excited to showcase the stunning kitchen that Jenny Lyons designed as part of this year’s Tour of Kitchens, created in collaboration with Kim Zimmerman Interiors. Their long-standing client was ready for a fresh update, and together, we transformed their kitchen into a modern, functional space. By removing the original peninsula and reimagining the layout, we created a spacious two-island design, perfect for both daily use and entertaining. Thoughtful details, like integrated pantry doors leading to a walk-in pantry, a dedicated bar area, and two built-in refrigerators, enhance both form and function. We also included a built-in morning station to elevate the everyday experience. The updated design makes the kitchen feel more open, inviting, and well-suited to the family’s needs. We are thrilled to have brought this vision to life, creating a space that’s as beautiful as it is practical.

This year, Bell Cabinetry was thrilled to collaborate with Jane Hollman along with Don DeLong of Sub-Zero to design his personal kitchen. The details include custom cabinetry painted in a soft neutral, beautifully contrasted by a rich, dark island with detailed paneling. Antique mirror panels on either side of the hood provide subtle adornment. The island table pedestal, custom-designed and inspired by Don & Kathy’s personal travels, o ers a unique seating option. The oak hood surround cleverly houses the ceiling-mounted hood while adding a warm accent that ties seamlessly into the island and desk wood tops. To complete the space, cabinets flanking the fireplace are enhanced by reeded doors with satin brass trim and integrated hardware, o ering just the right amount of detail to create a furniture-like appearance that completes the design.

It’s always a delight to contribute to a project for someone who spends much of their time in the kitchen. This year, we’re proud to present a kitchen that truly embodies a cook’s dream. Designed to take full advantage of the high ceilings and open layout, the space showcases stunning white oak cabinets paired with light Taj Mahal countertops. To maintain clean lines and a minimalist aesthetic, all Sub-Zero appliances are seamlessly panelized, and the ovens feature a sleek, handleless design. The spacious island o ers ample room for meal preparation or rolling out dough while providing plenty of seating space for family and guests. Beyond the kitchen, we crafted a custom walnut bar with leaded antique glass panels and decorative bracketing for a touch of timeless elegance. Finally, we completed the space with a custom antique oak dining table, perfect for hosting family gatherings and creating lasting memories.
Ryan DeCesaro, owner and longtime designer at Morgan Creek, is honored to carry on the tradition of crafting luxury cabinetry. This unique and earthy kitchen combines fresh, classic Atlanta elements with the charm of a country equestrian estate in the personal home of Studio Entourage designer, Jane Hollman. The large, vaulted kitchen is filled with texture and distinctive details that evoke old-world charm, including continuous white planking on the walls and ceiling, cobbled large-format bluestone pavers, and a central cupola above the island that floods the space with natural light. A striking exterior wall of Tennessee fieldstone features a beautiful arched steel window that overlooks a garden courtyard with raised garden beds and plantings. The emphasis on texture, natural materials, and curated details creates a warm and inviting atmosphere. The custom-stained wood doors flanking all four corners of the kitchen are designed to evoke the feel of horse stall doors. These doors feature specialty custom steel and brass hardware, inspired by horse blanket racks. They provide access to the scullery, mudroom, and also panel the integrated Sub-Zero refrigerator and freezer. Adjoining spaces include a spacious scullery with full baking and clean-up amenities, a wine sitting room with an arched steel entrance to a temperature-controlled wine closet, a Cajun red bar featuring a specialty bourbon closet, and a large, vaulted family room.
Jane Hollman, principal of Studio Entourage, is a well-known design professional in the Atlanta area. She and her team create many wonderful spaces with clients throughout the southeast and beyond. Jane has years of business and design experience, a background in the fine arts and is a passionate equestrian and owner of horses, as well as an avid cook and hostess for family and friends.

Remodeling this kitchen meant bittersweet demolition of the well-loved design Cailin did for this family almost 30 years ago. At that time, the needs of a growing family were at the heart of the plan, but now was the hour to fully open the kitchen into the family room—a concept discussed then, yet making more sense now. Current objectives involved relocating the door to the garage for a mudroom entrance, a well-functioning laundry, a walk-in pantry, and neat wine bar. These days, gatherings have room for elbows aplenty around a spacious island while watching the big game doesn’t mean the cooks miss out on the excitement.
Cailin M. Thelen, CMKBD, o ers an attentive design process and more than 35 years of practice in the kitchen and bath industry. Thoughtful plans are the result of connecting with clients and a strong motivation to deliver essentials along with extras. Principal designer of Thelen Designs, LLC, she followed in her mother’s footsteps as well as apprenticed under her late father-in-law, a registered architect—both certified kitchen designers. Along with design award accolades, she earned the Certified Master Kitchen & Bath Designer (CMKBD) credential in 2001 and is the current president of the Georgia chapter of the National Kitchen & Bath Association (NKBA). When away from the drafting [key]board, Cailin enjoys spending time with family, doting on the pets, and baking.
