DEAR AIS COMMUNITY, It is no surprise that we say AIS is a very special place - you’d expect nothing less from a founding parent and board member, and an alumna. But the fact is, AIS is truly a school like no other. Founded almost 40 years ago, to develop courageous leaders who shape their world for the better, today our hallways are filled with more than 1,330 students, representing 90 nationalities, and speaking over 60 languages. These global citizens know the importance of their voice in this world, thanks to their time here. Within the colorful pages of the following report, we celebrate the many ways that our community - the dedicated parents, alumni, friends, and employees - carry the critical mission of AIS into the future. Through your time, talent, and financial generosity, you ensure that AIS is always a place where every student can thrive, innovate, and belong. While we look ahead to AIS’s bright future that you are helping us to build, we also know that the impact of AIS, right now today, couldn’t be more important. Every day AIS is deeply committed to each student, so they can evolve into all that they can be. You see this when our senior students delight audiences as they bring a play to life; you feel it when our middle schoolers make lasting friendships with exchange students from schools abroad; you experience it when our primary students are tinkering and problemsolving in the ‘fab lab’; you smile about it when our youngest Eagles in the ELC are immersed in the joy of learning; and you understand it more than ever when our alumni return to campus, inspiring today’s students to be the next generation of leaders.

MAKE OUR COMMUNITY THRIVE Since it was established, just like other independent schools in the United States, Atlanta International School relies on the financial support of our entire community; trustees, parents, alumni, employees, grandparents and parents of alumni, to make the student experience the best it can be. Your generosity and commitment allows AIS to fulfill its mission and core values - to develop courageous leaders who will shape their world for the better. Here are the ways you can support the school:
THE EAGLES FUND A contribution to the AIS annual fund - The Eagles Fund - is the most important financial gift you make to Atlanta International School. Every member of the AIS community is asked to support The Eagles Fund. Your participation, at any level, demonstrates to corporations and foundations that support academic programs, that this community is aligned behind the AIS mission and core values. This is critical for AIS to secure transformational donations and grants. So every gift really does make a difference. Those who personally give $1,984 or above are automatically members of The 1984 Club, the school’s leadership giving group. The 1984 Club levels and benefits to our members are: FOUNDERS’ COUNCIL
$20,000+ • 1984 Club Party Invitation • 10 VIP Tickets for the Spring Benefit Gala • Head of School Dinner

THE POWER OF GIVING AIS is a special place, founded on the power of language, inclusivity, critical thinking and the real-world application of learning. AIS is guided by its mission to build the next generation of courageous leaders who shape their world for the better. We believe that an inclusive community of individuals from many backgrounds and identities — provides a setting where our students can develop a global mindset and respect and understanding for others. This community, our languages for all approach and the International Baccalaureate curriculum, give students the best place to thrive, innovate and belong. At AIS, gifts of every size, ensure our school is able to provide an exceptional experience for every student.
CHRISTOPH KOEHLER ’10 & RANA EL-NAHAS ’10 “As alumni, we know the benefits of an education at AIS go far beyond academia and activities. Having exposure to diversity of cultures, backgrounds, and thought offered by the AIS community, is a necessary resource for striving in today’s world. We can’t think of a better way to invest in our future than by giving to the AIS Eagles Fund. As parents, we know how important it is to ensure that other parents have access to the same education, community and opportunities for their children, regardless of their socio-economic story. We all want to provide the best possible future for our kids and investing in education is the most sound way of doing that.”

THE SCHMOOK FAMILY We caught up with Eric Schmook a new AIS Board of Trustees member and Eagles Fund supporter, to tell us about his philanthropic journey with AIS. Tell us about your AIS journey: We started at AIS with our oldest daughter Nadia back in 2019 and now have both daughters at the school. Andie is in Grade 1 and Nadia is in Grade 2, both in the Spanish track. We were very excited to join AIS both for the IB program (my mother who is an educator recommended it) as well as the language program. As I’ve told many other parents, I was given the opportunity to attend colleges across the country because of a sport I played, but I want my girls to have the opportunity to look at colleges all over the world, and the education they are getting at AIS will help them with that. Why do you give your time to AIS? Anytime I get involved with a nonprofit, my goal is to leave it in a better position than when I joined. We have such a tremendous school that provides a lot of value to its students and I feel like it’s my responsibility to get that message out to current and prospective parents. Also, the school is willing to listen to its volunteers which I find very heartening. I’d be much less enthusiastic about volunteering if the voices of its volunteers and parent population weren’t being heard. Why do you donate to The Eagles Fund? With any nonprofit, it’s unlikely that operating revenues are enough to cover expenses for the organization. At AIS, I believe tuition covers 9 of 10 teacher salaries so donations are the way to bring on and retain great teachers. Also, the school has started to allow donations to be designated to certain areas and I think that is a real value in giving the donor the ability to give to what they are passionate about. What does philanthropy mean to you? Philanthropy to me is a means to allocate resources to areas of need, to the people and organizations who are best equipped to help in those areas. In regards to AIS, I’m very comfortable knowing that the donations I provide to the school will be put to good use. That confidence comes from the senior staff and volunteers in place.

THE BARNEY FAMILY Turquoise and Marcus Barney became supporters of Atlanta International School in 2022 when they enrolled their daughters Karma ’31 and Kamryn ’36. Originally from California, the Barney family has been in Georgia since 2016. When they first relocated to Georgia, they lived in Duluth and later moved into the Buckhead area. Their family extensively searched all of the private schools in Atlanta that offered a high quality education in a diverse and inclusive environment where students from different backgrounds come together. Turquoise says, “We felt that AIS was the best fit for the educational needs we wanted for our young daughters.” They also have friends whose children attended AIS and said nothing but great things about the school. The Barney family is inspired to give to The Eagles Fund because “[we] believe in the school and its mission and everything that they have to offer for the educational enrichment of our daughters.” Turquoise recalls, “During Karma and Kamryn’s first year at AIS, the school hosted UN Day, and we were utterly blown away by the school’s efforts to uplift and celebrate their students’ diverse cultures. Our hope is to instill in our children that the world is not just black, white, brown, gray, or green. It’s filled with a beautiful diversity of colors.” With UN Day, the Barneys knew they were in the right place. We asked what motivates their family to give to AIS, and Turquoise responded, “The way AIS celebrates its students by allowing them to be who they are further enriches our daughters’ learning experience.”

ALICIA KARPICK Alicia Karpick is the indefatigable AIS Middle School Administrator. Now in her third year in the role, Alicia is clear about what motivates her to support The Eagles Fund… the students and their infectious enthusiasm for school life. As Alicia put it, “I love AIS! Every day I am given 300 plus reasons to give to The Eagles Fund! Every student inspires me to support their time at school.” For Alicia, philanthropy is the act of supporting your beliefs and values. She explained, “I believe in the mission of AIS but even more I believe in the students and teachers. At my desk, I am lucky enough to hear the voices of the teachers collaborating and planning wonderful learning. AIS students are kind, creative and work so hard inside and outside of the classroom. And I can see the impact of giving to this community - it’s like the ripple effect in a pond when someone throws in a stone. I want to help start that ripple, so I also give to inspire others to do the same!”
THANK YOU! We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all of our generous donors whose unwavering support upholds the spirit of giving at AIS. Your contributions, regardless of size, play an indispensable role in crafting an unparalleled educational journey for each student within our diverse community. Your commitment to our mission of fostering inclusivity, critical thinking, and global leadership empowers our students to thrive, innovate, and embrace a sense of belonging. Your dedication to our nonprofit organization illuminates the path toward a brighter future, enabling us to continue providing an exceptional and transformative experience for all. Thank you for being catalysts in shaping the next generation of courageous leaders and for championing the values that define the essence of AIS.

This part of our campus is where Avery and his friends spent every break and lunch. Avery’s friends and family honored his memory by creating this beautiful new area for anyone needing a quiet moment, a kind face, a warm hug, or a listening ear. Avery’s Place, is the kind of safe harbor that Avery was for all those whose lives he touched.
AVERY FIERMAN MEMORIAL FUND The Avery Fierman Memorial Fund was established in 2022 by the friends and family of Avery Fierman, an AIS Grade 10 student who passed away at the age of 16. The fund was created in dedication to the memory of Avery and his time at the school. The Fund will support need-based financial aid for a secondary school student who embodies a focus on academic excellence and the joy of learning, paired with an undeniable spirit of kindness and empathy. These are all qualities that Avery shared with those around him each and every day. The scholarship creates an opportunity for other children to experience the joy Avery felt in attending AIS. It is anticipated that the scholarship will be first awarded during the 2025-26 school year. With sincere thanks to all those who have made this memorial fund and its scholarship possible through generous and thoughtful donations. If you would like to add to this memorial fund, please go to www.aischool.org/give or email giving@aischool.org.

BENJAMIN SCHÜTTLER ’08 MEMORIAL AWARD The Benjamin Schüttler ’08 Memorial Award is an example of the amazing generosity of donors. Benjamin (Benji) is an alumnus from the AIS Class of 2008 who died tragically at age 27. While he lived a short life, it was a life of meaning and the Benjamin Schüttler Memorial Endowed Fund was generously established in Benji’s honor by his family and friends. An endowed fund is set up in a way that it will provide funding for students for years to come. Last year, proceeds from the fund were awarded to two students who honor Benji’s memory through taking part in educational enrichment opportunities: Ingrid Cunningham ’24 took a summer trip to Chile and Argentina with the Columbia Climate School, and Nyla Swinton ’24 traveled to New York City for a fashion merchandising camp. Nyla shared a message of gratitude for the committee: “I want to formally thank you and the Schüttler family for working so diligently with me to help me get to the Banson NYC program and for gifting me the award. I had an amazing time in New York and could not have done it without your help.” The award recipients embody the compassion, curiosity, and courage that are the hallmarks of how Benji lived his life. Endowments such as the Benjamin Schüttler ’08 Memorial Fund have the power to transform lives. Thanks to AIS donors, this fund and others, will nurture courageous leaders who shape their world for the better. If you would like to add to this endowed fund, please go to www.aischool.org/give or email giving@aischool.org.

GEORGIA GOAL Need-based financial aid is critical to maintaining the intentionally inclusive learning community that AIS is committed to, to the benefit of all students. The State of Georgia Financial Aid Tax Credit program - Georgia GOAL - has allowed AIS to provide hundreds of scholarships to qualifying students who would not otherwise have the opportunity to attend AIS.
WHAT IS GEORGIA GOAL? Through the Georgia GOAL Scholarship Program (GOAL), Georgia taxpayers have the opportunity to designate a portion of their tax liability to support need-based financial aid at AIS at no net cost to the participant. 2024 Update: GOAL for 2024 is open for participation! GOAL funds become oversubscribed every year as every private school is competing for the same funds. Please make your designation before December 31 so AIS students do not miss out!

OUR MISSION To develop courageous leaders who shape their world for the better.
OUR CORE VALUES The joy of learning and purposeful effort. Mutual respect and understanding in an intentionally inclusive and intercultural community.
OUR APPROACH To lead as individuals and as members of their communities, future-ready young people must learn to thrive in ambiguity and uncertainty, pairing deep self-knowledge and empathy with the skills to think analytically and constructively. We believe it is essential to develop the capacity to consider one’s decisions and actions within an ethical framework grounded in a spirited sense of hope in human potential. We create a safe, stimulating educational environment, promoting the wonder and curiosity that motivates a student to learn in and beyond the classroom and throughout life. We believe that achievement derives from sustained, purposeful effort and by learning to think critically, debate confidently, question assumptions and push our limits. We believe language and culture shape and inform identity. We delight in difference, opening ourselves to authentic and meaningful interactions with various cultures both in school and in life. We commit ourselves to grow and change individually and together, to ensure every learner’s identity, language, and values are respected.
AIS NON-DISCRIMINATION STATEMENT Atlanta International School practices a full nondiscriminatory policy in all school-administered programs and will not discriminate on the basis of race, color, gender, national and ethnic origin, age, disability, religion, sexual orientation or gender preference in all of its admissions, educational and employment policies, programs, and practices.
