A Lifetime Joy of Learning

Languages at AIS

Embracing Language

Embracing language as a skill, and a way to develop deeper intercultural understanding, has been at the heart of the AIS mission since it was founded in 1984.

Bringing people together through language, and teaching students to deepen their connection to their heritage through a language is core to who we are.

AIS offers an extensive range of language and literature courses in over 40 languages that can be studied as a first language including... Arabic, French, German, Hindi, Hebrew, Korean, Chinese, and Spanish.

We can support students from all over the world to retain a high level of study in their home language.

Depending on the number of students studying any one language, the way in which a class is taught will vary - from in-person group instruction to IB-authorized School Supported SelfTaught Languages (SSST) classes.

Regardless of their home language, students at AIS Boarding will be able to pursue a high level of language and literature in their first language at AIS. We’re committed to helping students access US universities, as well as preparing them to return to their home country for higher education, or work in the future. Ensuring students retain pride in their identity is fundamentally important to AIS, and crucial for students studying away from home.

Innovation and Entrepreneurship

Innovation is central to the International Baccalaureate (IB) and AIS Boarding students are perfectly poised to innovate!

We design learning so that students explore real world context and important human issues, as well as developing knowledge and skills in STEAM - Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math.

By exploring current issues and what action is required to address them, students apply their learning to be solution finders and to have real world impact.

AIS Innovation

Grade 10 students create Personal Projects - which showcase their innovative thinking and creativity.

STEAM Diploma Endorsement

Uniquely, AIS students in Grades 9 through 12 are encouraged to work towards a STEM or STEAM diploma endorsement.

AIS students are offered a two-week internship in a STEAM field of interest, where they can meet the challenges and opportunities of our fast-changing world first hand.

Entrepreneurship - designing a better future for all. There are many opportunities for AIS Boarding students to become future ready entrepreneurs - with innovation grants and extracurricular clubs and groups.

50% of AIS students go on to study a STEAM field at college

AISx

AISx is an innovative program, launched in 2023, designed to provide flexible, hybrid academic programs for students who are pursuing pre-professional interests, such as sports, acting, ballet and other pre-professional pathways.

This bespoke educational program ensures students are able to pursue their passions in sports, arts, or other professional fields, without compromising on high-quality academic rigor and holistic support, provided by an AIS education.

AISx is available to students in Upper School (High School, grades 9 - 12), both for Day and Boarding students. IB courses, honors level classes, dual enrollment, and other curricular offerings are available to AISx students.

Classes are taught either in person, online through remote instruction, or asynchronously, based on students’ individual needs.

AISx students complete the in person element of their schedules at the AIS Sandy Springs Campus.

Through AISx, Atlanta International School has developed unique partnerships which open up many opportunities to students. AISx is the lead education provider for students in the Atlanta United Football Club Development Academy, and the Mouratoglou Academy Atlanta for tennis.

AIS is also accredited as an IB Athlete Friendly Education Centre (AFEC) by the World Academy of Sport. The IB’s AFEC certification allows AIS to provide personalized scheduling to student-athletes, giving them flexibility in the MYP, DP and CP - allowing them to meet their sporting commitments, alongside their academics. For DP and CP students this certification also opens up the possibility of completing their studies over three years, rather than two.

A Flexible Schedule for Unique Needs

All Set For Tennis

Patrick Mouratoglou, the legendary tennis coach to numerous leading professionals, including Serena Williams, and Atlanta International School are proud to announce a new partnership between the Mouratoglou brand and the AIS Sandy Springs Campus

From Spring 2025, the Mouratoglou Academy Atlanta (MAA) will be located at the AIS Sandy Springs Campus, offering students an exceptional experience both in the classroom and on the tennis court, guided by Mouratoglou’s and Atlanta International School’s expertise.

This will be the first Mouratoglou Academy in Georgia, offering students the world-class AIS day and boarding academic programs.

Students in the MAA will enjoy brand new tennis facilities all set in the beautiful surroundings of the AIS Sandy Springs Campus.

In the AIS Community, Everyone’s Welcome!

Parent Organization

The AIS Parent Organization (PO) is a wonderful part of our vibrant, international community. The extensive range of committees, cultural clubs, and events ensure that your family will find interests, make friends, and have a deep sense of belonging.

Throughout the year the PO promotes the school community through events like Worldfest and a traditional winter market.

Every AIS family is automatically a member of the PO with a multitude of cultural clubs to join.

Alumni

Around the world, AIS alumni are carrying out the school’s mission as courageous leaders who shape their world for the better.

Almost 2000 former students are now part of our alumni network, since our first graduation in 1992. Alumni are an important part of school life and foster the diverse AIS community.

The AIS Alumni Board advances the mission of AIS by cultivating and amplifying the alumni voice, creating opportunities to positively impact students.

Supporting the AIS Annual Fund, The Eagles Fund is the single most important way that families can support AIS each year.

Making a contribution that’s right for your family, truly makes a difference to every student, every day. AIS is a nonprofit organization that relies on philanthropic contributions to bolster our tuition income.

Our approach

To lead as individuals and as members of their communities, future-ready young people must learn to thrive in ambiguity and uncertainty, pairing deep self-knowledge and empathy with the skills to think analytically and constructively. We believe it is essential to develop the capacity to consider one’s decisions and actions within an ethical framework grounded in a spirited sense of hope in human potential.

We create a safe, stimulating educational environment, promoting the wonder and curiosity that motivates a student to learn in and beyond the classroom and throughout life. We believe that achievement derives from sustained, purposeful effort and by learning to think critically, debate confidently, question assumptions and push our limits. We believe language and culture shape and inform identity. We delight in difference, opening ourselves to authentic and meaningful interactions with various cultures both in school and in life. We commit ourselves to grow and change individually and together, to ensure every learner’s identity, language, and values are respected.

AIS NON-DISCRIMINATION STATEMENT

Atlanta International School practices a full nondiscriminatory policy in all school-administered programs and will not discriminate on the basis of race, color, gender, national and ethnic origin, age, disability, religion, sexual orientation or gender preference in all of its admissions, educational and employment policies, programs, and practices.
