The Swashbuckling Don Quixote Takes the Stage in

Based on the famous novel by Miguel de Cervantes, Don Quixote is a beloved classical ballet story loved by audiences for its humorous plot and lavish staging. Don Quixote blends bold choreography and exquisite dancing with a swashbuckling adventure tale that takes the famous man of La Mancha across the Spanish countryside to battle imaginary dragons, save damsels in distress, and search for his one true love.

The ballet opens with Don Quixote receiving a shave from the young village barber, Basilio, before retreating to his beloved books and drifting off into a fantasy world. He is awakened by the mischievous peasant, Sancho Panza, and the two men, along with a horse, head off in search of adventure and romance.

On their journey, the Don unwittingly becomes a co-conspirator in a marriage plot between Kitri, an innkeeper’s daughter, and the man she loves, town barber Basilio. Unfortunately, Kitri’s father has a different husband in mind for her: the rich, but vain and selfish, Gamache. Will Kitri get her man? Choreographed by Yuri Possokhov, the production is infused with flourishes of Spanish culture, featuring guitars, passionate street dancers and brave toreadors in vibrant costumes with a setting to match.
