Greetings from the Executive Director Welcome to the Monmouth Regional Chamber of Commerce! We’re in the Business of Business, and we’re here to help our members succeed. I joined the team here at the MRCC in September 2017, and together with Rochelle Miller in the office, we’re here to support the volunteers who make this organization great, and help steer the MRCC towards its future goals. We have a lot of exciting new events planned for 2018, and believe strongly that the MRCC is a tremendous business resource for our members. We’re at the epicenter of the combined brainpower of thousands of entrepreneurs and business owners. It’s our intention to use this tremendous power to help all of our businesses work smarter instead of harder, find ways to improve efficiency and profits, and set themselves up for the quickly changing business future. This year, we’re partnering with Microsoft, and this synergy will help our businesses plan for their futures. THINK TANK 18 is something new, and will provide “professional development for the professional.” Seminars and speakers will provide leading information for businesses in a multitude of topics, including cyber security, new cutting-edge software, best hiring practices, leadership in business, and much more. It will be an event you’ll want your entire staff to attend! We’ll also be continuing our popular events and programs such as the Women in Business conferences, the ATHENA awards, Caring with Karaoke, and so much more! Beyond our programs, membership in the MRCC provides access to QualCare Health Insurance through our association with Centrastate Medical Center. OUSING - Here in the central portion of scenic New Jersey, just fifteen miles or less to Atlantic beaches, and just an hour or so from either Philadelphia or New York City, residents of Monmouth County enjoy a range of housing choices and excellent amenities. Our formerly agricultural communities are rich in history and scenery. BUSINESS & INDUSTRY - Monmouth County offers local businesses and industries a major advantage thanks to several international airports, intercontinental railroads, the East Coast’s most strategic ports and a superb network of interstate highways. Clearly, this is a great place for business and industry to locate or expand. Equally important to the

success of business operations is the community’s exceptionally strong work ethic. Add to those advantages our extraordinarily high level of education, a favorable tax structure and AAA bond ratings, and you get a community that can’t be beat. Among the major names that have chosen to call Monmouth County home are CentraState Healthcare System, Monmouth Medical Center, Brookdale Community College and New Jersey Natural Gas. Even though agriculture is no longer the dominant industry in Monmouth County, our area, thanks to its growing season of almost 200 days, is home to a large number of farms and nurseries. ranks first in equine training and breeding facilities, second in the state in certified nurseries, floriculture crops, horse farms and Asian vegetables; third in sweet corn and sod and Christmas tree farms; and fifth in alfalfa, soybean, pepper and tomato production. The county currently ranks fifth in the state in tourism dollars, according to the Monmouth County Department of Economic Development and Tourism, and it is the state’s fourth largest industry. While the seashore attractions on the eastern part of the County comprise much of that amount, western Monmouth County has successfully attracted visitors to our region’s museums, historical sites, battlefields, fairs and festivals, county parks and auto and horse racing events. The Monmouth County Department of Economic Development and Tourism, an agency of Monmouth County, provides assistance at every level of business development to businesses that are growing and expanding here. This “one-stop shop,” located in the heart of downtown Freehold, offers entrepreneurs and established businesses one-on-one assistance in locating and purchasing land and buildings. The agency’s staff provides information on obtaining permits, developing site plans, and designing financing packages. The staff also provides assistance with workforce development and readily links employers with any other agency or organization that may be of assistance. The Monmouth County Workforce Investment Board (WIB) is actively working to bring together the public and private sectors to oversee Monmouth County’s workforce development activities. The WIB provides services to employers in a unified and

efficient manner. Among its accomplishments is the development of a countywide Welfareto-Work program, a One Stop Career Center, and the creation of a Youth Council to provide work-related programs for at-risk youth. TRANSPORTATION - Monmouth County is located midway between two of the nation’s largest metropolitan areas – New York and Philadelphia. Both metropolitan areas are no more than an hour’s drive away. Thousands of our county’s residents commute daily into these major business markets, and thousands more regularly travel significant distances from home for shopping and recreation. Whether you drive or use public transportation, you’ll find getting around in Monmouth County a real pleasure. U.S. and state highways traverse the county in all directions and are supplemented by an excellent county and municipal roadway system. Four major highways travel north to south through our community – the New Jersey Turnpike, Route 9, Route 18 and the Garden State Parkway, which provide access to all of our nearby shore communities. Route I-195 provides access to and from Trenton, our state capital. From our northern and eastern Atlantic Ocean shores, frequent and reliable passenger rail service is available seven days a week with sleek, comfortable trains to New York City, Newark and the Hudson Waterfront. Monmouth’s Bayshore is just south of New York Harbor. Business commuters can use high-speed ferry services from Highlands and Atlantic Highlands to Pier 11 Wall Street and East 34th Street in Manhattan. NJ TRANSIT and private companies operate many bus routes throughout the county.

Frequent service is available along State Routes 35, 36 and the Garden State Parkway to New York City, Wall Street, Newark and the Hudson Waterfront, while service along U.S. Route 9 operates to many destinations every few minutes at all hours of the day. Several connecting local bus routes serve area employers, shopping centers, health care providers and recreational destinations in the county. The county also provides taxi and van service for senior citizens and disabled residents. Monmouth County residents generally use Newark Liberty International Airport and Philadelphia International Airport for their domestic and international ﬂights. Both airports are about one hour from most points in the county – on high-speed parkways and Interstate highways. Atlantic City International Airport and JFK are just over an hour away via the Garden State Parkway. Allaire Airport in Wall Township provides private and corporate aircraft owners with a ﬁrst-class municipal airport operation. EDUCATION - Monmouth County is served by an outstanding education system. More than 625,000 residents of this thriving Central New Jersey county are served by more than 181 public schools, and over 50 private and parochial schools. Additionally, high school students may enroll in specialty high school programs, called academies, sponsored by Monmouth County Vocational School District. Brookdale Community College (the County College of Monmouth), located in the Lincroft section of Middletown Township, offers associate (2-year) degrees in over 50 programs, plus noncredit classes in many areas of personal and professional interest. Brookdale’s current enrollment (full and part-time) is in excess of 11,500 students, with some 70 percent attending Brookdale with the goal of transferring to a four-year institution. A growing regional campus of Brookdale Community College is the Western Monmouth Higher Education Center in Freehold. Brookdale is sponsored by the citizens of Monmouth County through the Board of Chosen Freeholders. Monmouth University, situated on a beautiful and historic 147-acre campus in West Long Branch, is a comprehensive four-year university offering a wide variety of undergraduate and graduate degree programs. Georgian Court University, a four year, Catholic, comprehensive college with a strong liberal arts foundation, is located near western Monmouth County. THE PERFECT PLACE TO PLAY... INDOORS AND OUT

UTDOOR RECREATION - Thanks to Monmouth County Government’s vision, the communities comprising Monmouth County are blessed with exceptional recreational areas, including twenty-seven miles of pristine Atlantic Ocean beaches on the Jersey Shore that are no more than thirty to forty-five minutes from most of our residents. Four major rivers flow through Monmouth County – the Manasquan, Navesink, Shrewsbury and Shark Rivers – and both deep sea and fresh water fishing can be enjoyed here. The county’s 34,000 acres of protected public open space include more than 16,557 acres of county-owned parkland, conservation areas and golf courses. Great biking, hiking, birding and beaches are just minutes from home in any direction. In addition to the fascinating history of Monmouth Battlefield State Park, there are over 25 miles of hiking trails on old farm roads, footpaths and field edges along its beautiful, rolling countryside. When winter conditions are favorable, visitors can indulge in cross-country skiing and snow shoeing on all of the trails. The Bryn Johnson Recreation Area, located in Upper Freehold Township, consists of nearly 43,000 acres, much of which will be preserved as open land, and part developed for outdoor recreation. The Monmouth County Park System will celebrate its 60th anniversary in 2020. The Park System began with 24 acres of surplus land left over from the construction of the Garden State Parkway in 1960. Each year, approximately 4,000 recreational programs are offered through the Park System, in addition to its host of parks, forests, gardens, wetland and marine habitats, golf courses, historic sites, recreation areas and conservation properties. With over 25 golf courses, golf is obviously a major attraction in Monmouth County, and from the perspective of the serious golfer this beautiful part of New Jersey is close to paradise. In fact, two of the top fifty rated public golf courses in the country – Hominy Hill in Colts Neck and Howell Park in Howell – are part of the Monmouth County Park System. ENTERTAINMENT, ARTS & CULTURE - Monmouth County is home to Six Flags Great Adventure, two outstanding horse-racing parks, a nationally-renowned drag racing facility, summer concerts at the outdoor PNC Arts Center, numerous community theaters, two of the state’s largest shopping malls, antique centers and weekend flea markets and marinas. Not only are some of the world’s greatest theaters and museums within a short drive from home, but art lovers can also select from and participate in an abundance of local culture. Dance, fine art, theater, music, photography and improvisation are available right here at home. Whether it’s the Center Players in Freehold, Two River Theater Company & Count Basie Theater in Red Bank, or Brookdale Performing Arts Center, Monmouth County has plenty of venues for entertainment. The PNC Bank Arts Center in Holmdel is the state’s premier summer outdoor concert hall, featuring a full lineup of worldclass entertainment under the stars on glorious New Jersey evenings. Famous shore venues like The Stone Pony and Wonderbar feature live performances that draw people from far and wide, and the list of other bars and restaurants featuring live entertainment is enormous! In addition to the popular Monmouth Battlefield State Park, Monmouth County is the home of Historic Allaire Village, located within Allaire State Park. This fully-restored 19th century village serves as a

living history site, annually offering thousands of visitors and hundreds of school groups a unique opportunity to learn about the industries, buildings and life of an early American industrial village. Monmouth County Historical Association has its Museum, Library and Archives in Freehold along with ﬁve other historic houses open to the public around Monmouth County. The Association hosts many educational programs, special exhibitions and traveling trunk programs for students. Special annual events include Lantern Tours at the Allen House in Shrewsbury the ﬁrst Friday in December, Open Hearth Open House cooking demonstrations at the Covenhoven House in Freehold, Spinning and Weaving at Holmes-Hendrickson House in Holmdel, and King George’s Birthday Celebration at Marlpit Hall in Middletown. The Monmouth Regional Chamber of Commerce (MRCC) is a non-profit, volunteer organization whose mission is to promote business, enhance economic development and serve as a catalyst for improving the overall quality of life in our community. The Chamber represents the voice of business on a regional level. Who Makes Up the Chamber of Commerce? The Chamber currently represents member organizations coming from business, government, agriculture and industry in the region and also includes several firms located outside our area but committed to doing business in Monmouth County. Most importantly, however, the Chamber is PEOPLE working together for economic development and community enrichment. The power of the Chamber is harnessed through the collective action of the membership (retailers, service businesses, wholesalers, manufacturers, financial experts, professionals, doctors, corporate executives and educators) who work through a committee structure to achieve established goals. What does the Chamber do? The Chamber connects professionals and business owners with partners and referral sources as an important part of local economic development and service to the community. Acting on behalf of the business community, MRCC educates, communicates and provides resources on topics important to our business community through publications, events, networking programs, partnerships, etc. MRCC provides a network for community leaders to hear and listen to input from the business perspective while working together for community development. By offering opportunities for community engagement, B2B marketing, partnership building and referral establishment and professional development, the Chamber serves its members while improving the quality of life in our area. MRCC PERK BREAKFAST Our morning networking group meets every Friday morning. Each event features a different speaker and topic relevant to you and the growth of your business. CARING WITH KARAOKE The Young Professionals Group sponsors Caring With Karaoke (CWK). CWK, held annually in late February or early March, is a Karaoke Contest Fundraising Event which raises money through event sponsorships, “tricky tray” donations and event contests. With the support of the Monmouth Regional Chamber of Commerce and the local community, CWK has been able to help many families in need throughout Monmouth County with its yearly partnership with a local non-proﬁt organization.

ATHENA AWARD This annual event recognizes an individual for business and professional accomplishments for community service and for mentoring others and provides a role model to encourage women to achieve their full leadership potential.

TEAM CHALLENGE – AN ETHICS COMPETITION The Education Committee sponsors an annual MRCC Team Challenge. The Challenge provides local high school students with hands-on experience in team building, creative problem solving and dealing with the ethical decision-making process within the context of real world business problems. The multi-day event culminates in a competition with local business leaders serving as judges. GOLF OUTING Over 100 guests attend our Annual Golf Outing. CENTRASTATE COMMUNITY HEALTH PLAN The CCHP is an exclusive member benefit. CCHP is dedicated to meeting the needs of Central Jersey businesses and physician practices. With this plan, you and your employees can make smart choices that lead to better health and lower costs. The CentraState Community Health Plan, designed in partnership with QualCare, Inc., New Jersey’s largest provider-sponsored managed care organization, has a proven track record and offers affordable rates and potential for significant plan savings over time. MEMBERSHIP LIST An alphabetical and categorical mailing list of Chamber members is distributed via e-mail from the Chamber office to those requesting to do business in Greater Monmouth County. This valuable list provides an excellent business-to-business resource for products and services and is free to Chamber members. CERTIFICATES OF ORIGIN The Chamber will certify certificates of origin for exporters who need this paperwork to send their products overseas. This service is provided free to members of the Chamber. NOTARY SERVICES The Monmouth Regional Chamber of Commerce can provide the services of a Notary Public. This service is provided free to Chamber members. FREE BUSINESS COUNSELING Through its designation as a Small Business Resource Center by the U.S. SBA, the Chamber makes available free business counseling in its offices by members of Monmouth County SCORE Chapter 36, or by personnel of the Small Business Development

Center of Brookdale Community College. Publications from the U.S. SBA may be picked up at the Chamber office. PRE-REGISTRATION LISTS A list of all Member attendees to any Monmouth Regional Chamber of Commerce function is made available at each event. Distribution of this information has proved to be an effective marketing tool for Chamber members. In order to be included on the Pre-Registration List, reservations need to be made with the Chamber office by 12 Noon the day before the event. EDUCATION FOUNDATION We are proud to have formed the Monmouth Regional Chamber of Commerce Education Foundation, a NJ Non Profit Corporation. The MRCC Education Foundation’s primary purpose is to operate in support of the Monmouth Regional Chamber of Commerce’s educational and charitable programs. The MRCC Education Foundation is a 501(c) 3 exempt organization and may receive tax-deductible charitable donations.

MARKETING AND COMMUNICATIONS In addition to assisting the Chamber in planning for strategic marketing and expansion of the Chamber’s proﬁle among members, potential members and the community, this Committee is responsible for developing vehicles for strong communications for the Chamber of Commerce message, both internally to members and externally to the community. Honorary Chair of the committee is always the previous year’s recipient. BEACON OF EXCELLENCE AWARD BOE is the result of the Chamber’s annual search for outstanding contributions to the community. The Award is given in six categories and can be given to both individuals and organizations. A special Chairman’s Award may also be presented. Established in 1995, the award was designed to honor outstanding community enrichment through service, leadership and achievement. Nominations are sought each year from January through mid-March. Non-members may submit nominations and are eligible for recognition.

MEMBERSHIP This committee leads recruitment and orientation of new members along with coordinating the Chamber Ambassadors Program. It also focuses on member retention by providing various opportunities for member input.

GOLF COMMITTEE This committee plans the annual Golf Tournament for the Chamber. This event is an opportunity for our businesses and community members to come out for an day of networking, competition and fun.

WOMEN IN BUSINESS This committee provides local businesswomen with an opportunity for informal networking and strengthening of friendships while offering informative business topics for discussion at regularly scheduled monthly workshops. They also host periodic breakfast or luncheon programs on general business topics but with a women in business slant. YOUNG PROFESSIONALS GROUP The mission of the YPG is to connect and empower individuals in the growing stages of their careers, through increased opportunities and resources, to enhance their professional development. Using the Chamber as a platform, YPG members establish and maintain relationships that encourage business success. Regular opportunities for social networking, education and charity work promote the exchange of ideas between young professionals and current business leaders in the area. All are welcome at YPG events but the committee is reserved for professionals 40 and under. NOMINATION COMMITTEE This committee, appointed by the Chairman of the Board, identifies and recommends qualified candidates for the Board of Directors and Officers of the MRCC. It is their responsibility to ensure a diverse representation of the business community on the Board, and to inform candidates as to the responsibilities of their position.
