Fish Leather Inspiration
Exotic or Eco-friendly?
Why not both? Fish leather offers designers and producers a unique opportunity to work with exotic leather without compromising their green credentials. Atlantic Leather is a shining example of how a by-product of food production can be utilised: our raw material is fish skin, from fish caught at sea or farmed for food. Not a single hide in our tannery comes from an animal bred for its skin. If not used by us, the skin would simply be discarded. Instead of going into the bin, it enables us to manufacture exotic luxury leather. Now that is value added!Â

The Power of Nature Tanning and coloration processes require abundant hot water, but we are fortunate enough to have plenty of hot water from geothermal sources, an environmentally-friendly and renewable resource. In addition, our electricity comes from a hydroelectric power station. So Atlantic Leather can truly say it relies on the power of nature in its methods of producing fish leather. Exotic or eco-friendly? Why not both?

Classic and Versatile
Salmonleather Salmon leather is thin, flexible and very strong. The texture is smooth and refined. Most importantly, however, salmon leather takes colour well: the hues are bright and even, the range of colours broad and subtle. The leather can even be produced in a bright white! It’s no coincidence that salmon leather is our most popular product. Salmon leather goes with everything – it always looks good. Experience has taught us that salmon leather is, quite simply, a classic.

Wolffishleather The wolffish is a deep-sea species caught for food in the fishing grounds around Iceland and we are proud to be the only company in the world that makes wolffish leather! Wolffish has two striking characteristics, either of which would make it unique: you cannot miss the dark spotted pattern of the skin, and wolffish is also the only scaleless, smooth fish leather. Whatever the colour finish, the spotted pattern of wolffish leather always shines through – except of course, in black.

Bold is Beautiful
Perchleather There is nothing dainty about perch leather. The skins are large and thick, the texture rough. The big scales lend perch leather a unique character. If we leave the scales open, the leather has a natural, raw, wild texture. We can also smooth the surface, closing up the scales with varnish, but the character of the leather remains the same. Perch leather looks good in both light and dark colours, and when combined with metallic finishes the scale pattern is intensified. Whatever the finish and texture, perch leather always calls for attention. Perch: another word for Bold.

Dark Beauty
Codleather Cod leather is the thinnest of the leathers we make, flexible yet very strong. Its natural texture contrasts delicate scale patterns with a rough, irregular surface. The rough texture can be smoothed by compressing and varnishing to produce a silky-smooth leather, highlighting the dainty scale pattern. Cod leather is less receptive to colour than salmon leather, but we have developed a palette of darker tones, which combine effectively with all our various finishes. The dark beauty of cod leather is living proof that, when it comes to designing original raw materials, you simply can’t beat Mother Nature!

Washable Salmon Leather Atlantic Leather is the first company in the world which has developed a way to produce washable fish leather. “Washable” means that the leather retains its colour and flexibility after machine-washing at 30°C. This opens up a whole new world of possibilities for fish leather, especially in the field of fashion design and production.
Perforated Fish Leather
Experience of washable salmon leather has been good, and customer satisfaction is the best yardstick of our success. Our washable salmon leather is as durable as other fish leathers, and

we’re quick to let you know about it. We were pleasantly surprised when we experimented with perforating wolffish and salmon leather – especially the wolffish leather, which is thicker and stiffer. The perforations make it more flexible and supple, and we think the combination of the perforations and the dappled leather is really cool!

Atlantic Leather is making its contribution to this new development by sewing skins together to form panels of salmon leather. Fish leather is an ideal material for high fashion, whether in clothes design, furniture, or anything else. The most obvious factor is the strong character of the material, and the astonishing diversity which can be achieved in combinations of texture, colour and finish. Less well-known is the technical advantage of fish leather: thin and flexible, it is nonetheless amazingly strong. It can be as thin as 0.4 mm, yet its tear strength is
